An African Child's Prayer

::An African child's prayer for his mom::

I'll sing for you
And I'll dance with you
See my joy when I write for you
And it's because of you

I remember those hands that held me
Those hands that washed and fed me
My desire in a dream
Your smiles as in a golden grin

Momi if not for you
If not for you...
I can't really say
Even if I recall those dry nights of May

When I was small
You found my lost ball
Oh precious mother
Precious momi precious mother

How I miss those back pats
And also the motherly slaps
Now what will I be
Wi'out your prayers?

You push me off when I'm wrong
You pull me back with the other arm
Hold me once again
Cos I'll fall wi'out you

You have washed my nakedness
And you have directed me off from
wickedness
My baby tears have fallen all over you
Clothes blankets even your food

Now I ask God for another favor
Please Dear Lord keep her for me
Now it's your unfailing love
That kept hope burning lightly in my heart

This memory I want most
To hold you the way you held me when I was
a
toddler.

Tales of the Wild Woods

Some Tales of the Wildwoods
Oke Iroegbu

Once upon a Time
It was winter
And a night of bitter cold
The snow lay thick upon the ground
And upon the branches of the trees
Two Woodcutters made their way home
And when they came to the Mountain
She was hanging motionless in the air
For the Ice King had kissed her
So cold was it that evening
That the animals and birds
Knew not what to make of it
‘Ugh!’ snarled the Wolf
As he limped through the brushwood
With his tail between his legs
‘This is perfectly monstrous weather!
Why doesn’t the Government look to it?’
‘Weet, weet, weet! Twittered the crickets
‘The old Earth is dead
And she is laid out in her white shroud’
‘The Earth is going to be married
And this is her bridal dress’
The Turtle doves whispered
Their little pink feet were quite frost bitten
But they felt it was their duty
To say something romantic about the
situation
‘Nonsense’ the Wolf growled
‘I tell you it is all the fault
Of the Government
And if you don’t believe me
I shall eat you’
The wolf had a thoroughly practical mind
‘Well for my own part’
Said the philosophical Woodpecker
I don’t care an atomic theory for explanations
If a thing is so, it is so
And at present it is terribly cold’

African

:::Poetry:::
:::.~Africa~.:::
Africa my pride!
Land of the Lion...

Africa my light!
Land of the Nile river...

Africa my dream!
Land of the Kalahari...

Africa my song!
Land of the Quasa drum...

Africa my hope!
Land of Mqobothi beer...

Africa my joy!
Land of the Lagoon city...

Africa my love!
Land of Suya skewers...

Nigeria

Author: Okechukwu Iroegbu
Title: Let them hear...

Let them hear...
From the hills of Isuikwuato
My sleepy hilly land'e
From my new'est bride Uyo
To the ancient muds of Enugu
From Makurdi's Benue river beach
To those peaked crags of Jos
Let them hear...
As I dream of the undying
Lights of the Lagoon city
The snake lanes of Abuja
Cockcroachin' thru undergrounds
From the deserts of Damaturu
And the grasslands of Jalingo
Let them hear...
That I am a citizen of Owerri town
That my Calabar is very pretty
That Ibadan I adore so much
That Minna is a scenic beauty
That Kano makes much of the Suya I love so
much
That Port Harcourt is really a city of liberty

Let them hear...
That I love you my Nigeria

Christmas Dance

Cold dry airs...
Crunchy fruits...
Crazy hair-dos...
Cramped chicken...
Coded smiles...
Calm relaxation...
Cute smilin faces...
Chilled fanta...
Cod-full soups...
Cats n dogs games...
Chuffed beancakes...
Creamy salads...
Chucks and shoes...
Coke? Not for me...
...Xmas smellin' everywhere... Leme be the
first to wish yu a great Xmas! OiH

Oiroegbu Halls

:: Oke Iroegbu's Halls' ::

I want to be a sword
Give me a brass-smith
Mold me please... Mold me

I want to be a fish
Freedom of those depths
In the last frontiers of the Earth

I want to be a fruit
Come taste my puddings
Just bring a spoon- no bowel

I want to be a pen
Drawin pictures that lives in my mind
Creatin stories of Oiroegbu Halls

I want to be yur ...
Pulling yur hair all day
Waitin for yu to wake up in the mornins

I really want to be a story
In like the Arabian nights
Of bravery and of determination

I want to be a nutmeg
Makin yu cough all day*lol*
Laughin at yur red face*tongue*

Aye a Pirate

Down by the waterside
I ached for a ride
Then came a tiny canoe sail
Rollin its small tail

Mind you sailor
I-the wielder of the Ockrentor
The 'craziest' poet
And can you him beat?
I dream I believe
He sparingly revved
Life has made me a panther
I a lynx do be rather
He smiled showing all broken pieces
This crazy to think you got the bits
I was this and that
I grunted
What are you he asked
Me is not a pirate
I'm a poet
You a mooo...
No hawk, I'm Oiroegbu
Aye you look serious
I'm a man of surprises

The Lone Wolf

Slowly tis moon surge-by
Two shades join in harmony
As the door sides creak
Allowin' the cold airs
To filter in calmly
Blind winds blow boldly
Dogs bark and whine
And the pines call
Fear knows not himself
Yet a dark cloak
Sweeps fast across the lane
Creepy and with leaps
Takes cover behind the shrubs
Blood-shot eyes of fury
Lips of dried amber drops
Teeth filed straight like the Sabre
Ears dropped to navigate
And the fur; painted half dark
Gross nose and a hot fume
When the dogs bark;
There is somethin' out there
Somethin' is walkin'
Takin' a lonely stroll
Castin' a scary shadow
Across those empty roads

The Traveller

::The Traveller: Poem::

I know an old man
Who likes sitting by the streets
Ragged he was
And always smiling too
People called him a lunatic
But this man I say is wise
Knowledge, understanding he got it all
He told me stories of brave men
Of great tribes on the mountains and hills
Of a land where women laughed when they
dance
Of green fields of vast lands
I've listened to him with great attention
And I found that...
This ragged and dirty old man
Is truly wise and learned
The traveller is wiser...

Night Rain

::Night Rain::

Oh it rains again
The clouds stomach rumbles
Tis quiet evenin of soft breezes
Strong bashing up the pan
Atleast the pan has found a companion
tonight
And up these village hills
I can hear the swooshing trees
Pray for some mercy
When will the pan drummers ever stop?
And the happy frog choir?
Will the lightning come too?
Hope yu; the rain falls even more
Till tis weak brown eyes close finally
