A New Stage

Her innocence was gone
Maturity was her mystique
And she wore it like makeup as in clinique

She smiled and looked through deep eyes
Seeing through the disguise
She was wise

Serious was her demeanor
Compared to a pleasant dream of the dreamer
She sought pure thoughts and a heart that was cleaner than clean

Right and wrong were not important
Truth trumped those nouns
And only truth wore the crown

She listened to words as if she was reading a good book
And if ones words didn’t match their behavior
Then she knew that she was listening to a mind crook
She untangled their words and threw away their hooks

Wisdom and folly are two extremes
Wisdom builds self esteem and folly takes one downstream
One is kind and one is mean

She always walked towards kindness and peace
Those two attributes were her centerpiece

Don'T Get Crossed Up

No crossed legs
No crossed arms
No crossed eyes

No closed circuits
Why?

Poor circulation
Limited creation
From crossed parts
Let there be resignation

Tell the Stories

Zora Neal saw that Their Eyes Were Watching God, when
Toni Morrison heard The Song of Solomon, and
James Baldwin Told It on the Mountain, while
W.E.B. DuBois embraced The Souls of Black Folks
Richard Wright was a Black Boy, that’s why
Dr. Maya Angelo Knew Why the Caged Bird Sang
Iyana Vanzant found Peace Within Pieces, when
Lorraine Hansberry ate a Raisin in the Sun, while
Terry McMillian was Waiting to Exhale

A Technology Fast

Turn if off!
I told myself

Are you behaving like an addict?
Do you have to read your emails, look on Facebook, tweet a few lines,
Play a game or two and while at work your lunchtime and breaks are
Filled with personal calls and surfing the web

Robots we are not
We are emotional intelligent beings living in a world that have diminished
Our attention with others to a text

Sure all of technology is a tool for making things more efficient
But are we so self sufficient that we miss the human element
By becoming deficient?

I see shoppers pass by others and never speak because they are engrossed
In conversations on their cell phones and bump into objects and fall into potholes because their attention is focused on cyberspace

Because of God’s grace
They weren’t hurt
But they certainly didn’t save face

I’ve learned to take a technology fast
At a certain time my cell phone and computers are off
And my television too
So that my personal interaction with others isn’t devalued

We Have Something In Common

I love to smile
Because a smile is universal
It needs no dress rehearsal

Social Issues

Weapons and mass destruction
Traffic congestion

Infrastructure deterioration
Human experimentation

Child Abuse and Molestation
Church-State Separation

Toxic waste and unemployment
Exorbitant education

Police corruption and abuse
Alcoholism,Grey Goose

Can’t smoke indoors
Can’t smoke outdoors

Big Brothers mouth roars
“STOP the POLLUTION”

When it’s big businesses
That has the solution
To air pollution

It’s not the consumers
So stop spreading those rumors

Medicare and Medicaid Reform
Trying to set the norm

Compared to
Money Laundering

And the show that some
Perform

Media Bias
Would stop if we only had
More Zechariah's

Homelessness
In the U.S

It’s not a good reflection of America
Doing its best

Women fighting
For their equal rights

And racism lingering
Day and night

Change must be bold
And in Highlight

The Relationship

He was the employee
She was the boss

He worked for her
Than it came to a halt

He’d call in sick
And started missing days

He’d come to work late
And his excuses weren’t straight

The boss called him into her office
And gave him an ultimatum

He said he found another job
And what he said was datum

She walked him to the door
And bid him farewell

She told him his final check
Would be sent by mail

This is a relationship
That failed

Lady Justice

Why is justice blind?
How can she see my tears or see me gnashing my teeth?
How will she see me falling to my knees?
Shouldn’t she be the one who sees?

She has scales in her hands but she can’t
See what’s being weighted
Some burdens are heavy others are light
Uncover your eyes and see the light

Clean Air

The GOP are talking about doing away
With the EPA

But The Environmental Protection Agency
Makes sure that factories don’t pollute the air we breathe

They say “Kill that act”
Just because they want to run their businesses with ease

If the Clean Air Act is obliterated
Than with pollutants we’ll be saturated

The EPA is a good agency
Making businesses clean up their act

These are the facts:

The EPA has resources to help prepare for and respond
To both natural disasters and hazardous substance spills

And that’s the law they want to kill?

The EPA provides information on the environmental hazards
That can threaten our health in our everyday lives

So let’s see eye-to-eye and stop this strife
With bombastic lies

A Healthy Body and Soul

Watching television can make some couch potatoes
Too much sitting down can be fatal

A little sleep a little slumber
Is not as cool as a cucumber

More dark green vegetables and fruit
More water, less juice

Will help the heart give disease
The boot

Exercise is always good

Walking ten minutes a day
Is probable in the “Burbs or the Hood”

Good health
Good life
More joy
Less strife

Giving all praise to
Jesus Christ

Book: Reflection on the Important Things
