Jenny Dumaine Backlund Poem
dancing icy underfoot crackle pathways
moonlight loves the feminine presence prescience
laughter singing prayerful chants of thank you
ritual nurture

Jenny Dumaine Backlund Poem
down
goes the
curtain on this
moonless night of stars
I spread out
and look
up

Jenny Dumaine Backlund Poem
Aspens reaching skeletal fingers skyward
Grow the ancient boreal midnight mountain
reaching rooted primacy given taken
glorious prayer

Jenny Dumaine Backlund Poem
know
(in your cells)
that we are made of each other
(woven, weaving)
we deepen
we drink in
we divulge
(arms linking
ties binding
more than becoming)
with the space we fill
the ways
we move
(woven, weaving)
patterns of encoded mystery
blossoming
through
(down and out and down again)
perpetually
transforming
into new

Jenny Dumaine Backlund Poem
I will not beseech you
stop stuffing yourself near to exploding
even though I feel a need to
take the sunflowers, blossoms eroding
heads bowed in solemn, silent foreboding
save the seeds
ignore the needs
of one so wild
and bold as he feeds
to allay the memory of freeze on this August day so mild

Jenny Dumaine Backlund Poem
My body is made from fire
fire, flesh and blood
just like my mother who holds me
clay and earth and mud
My body is made from water
who flows and carries through
protecting, healing, easing
with ocean force and gentle dew
My spirit is made of sunshine
vision, heart and light
rising from rich, dark rootedness
into the world of sight
My spirit is made of ether
emerging from within
to reach the breath of consciousness
the connectedness of kin
When I lay my body down
in sacrifice, in birth
I offer myself to Creation
I return myself to Earth
But my spirit joins the many
moving freely through storm and dreams
to flow like balm, like smiles, like solace
to all earthborn beings
For now I am a seedbed
for all that spins and comes to be
as all that came before me
was for me when born a seed

Jenny Dumaine Backlund Poem
When I take you into me
I am the Yanomami who
drinks a tea made from
the ground up
bones of his
beloved dead
I take you in
as sacrifice
as secret gift
I carry you forward
I shine you on

Jenny Dumaine Backlund Poem
it strikes me that when you smile
rivers seem to rush through me
drops of light fall from above
my heart is opened

Jenny Dumaine Backlund Poem
the sound of your bright laughter
is a dance upon my heart
music lifting me upward
all else falls away
