Carla Phelps Wert Poem
Around me are whispers in the wind,
Promises for another time and day;
Sunlight slips around my shoulder,
Warmth, feeling its way.
Will I know the time of wind,
Or let it slip right through my hands?
Promises forgotten, misplaced,
Buried beneath the blowing sands.

Carla Phelps Wert Poem
I am the baby who cried
"more peaches" and waited
the young girl with dirty feet
catching polliwogs beneath bated
sun
I am the shy teenager stealing a first kiss
shattered by disappointment
and reality
the young woman dancing
at my Junior prom
Harbor Lights twinkling into
forever
I am the too-young bride who says
I do for fifty-plus years, and
I am all of this and more
I am the me writing this poem
remembering . . .

Carla Phelps Wert Poem
Somewhere
when I find you
it will be forever
for in your space
I am home
Somewhere
when I find you
your arms will hold
tomorrow, and
I will know

Carla Phelps Wert Poem
Words swirl around me
snow falling on a dark winter's night
coyotes singing
my heart dancing
snowetry

Carla Phelps Wert Poem
You handed me a towel
I dried the dishes
we laughed
we talked
there were no babies yet
but there was timed
for us
always time
we were young
not knowing how our lives
would change
three babies later
we knew
and there was no more time
For us, so
we laughed
we talked
we watched our babies grow
becoming teenagers we didn’t know
and grow
into their own lives
with babies
and no more time
and changes
and laughter
and talking
and life
