The Second Coming Vs. the Spectacle

The second coming of Jesus coincided with the World Cup game,
But no one noticed him as he had no expensive merchandise bearing his name.

People were flocking en masse to the stadium, with it bright lights and
pyrotechnics galore,
And Jesus with his long hair and sandals, looked a little like a bum, So was quite
easy to ignore.

One brave man spoke, and I thought he had something to say,
But all he said to Jesus was 'Hey man, you're going the wrong way! '
So I asked Jesus, if anything it was he had to say,
He shrugged his shoulders and said 'It doesn't really matter, I'm an atheist
anyway.'
'All this Son of God !@#$, I don't really understand,
I'm just a dissident carpenter, an ordinary man.'

As for me, I'm a Pantheist, I see heaven in the trees.
You wont catch me kissing the cross down upon my knees.
So I'd best shut up 'fore I get myself in trouble,
With all of the people out there who live inside a bubble.

My Love/My Enemy

She's so kind to me,
Everything she does for free,
And I love her so endearingly.
Potentially, the perfect place to be.

But she has become my sworn enemy,
Protecting myself from me,
And just when I need a little energy,
She ruthlessly denies it to me.

Is this such a common quandary?
It fell upon me naturally.
But how could this really be
Was I just to blind to see?

Can you really see me down upon my knee?
When I'm making you want to run and flee?
And I just don't agree,
Can't you see?

Interestingly, apparently optionally
But definitely consequentially.
She's making me feel like I'm behaving appallingly,
For she is crying hysterically right next to me.
And it's causing us pain both physically and mentally.

So we resolve to solve this with common sense, intelligently,
But common sense is an accident and we're acting accordingly.

She's the air that I breathe,
But we're both living in purgatory.
And by the way, I don't own a rhyming dictionary,
I haven't done that, it's all just happened to me.

Thirteen Lives

My cat he lost his mind last night,
Said he had some mad insight,
Told me that things were not quite right,
And went out for a wild cat fight.
I told him this wasn't the thing to be done,
He said he just wanted a little fun,
But like Icarus, he got burned by the sun.

He killed a rat and felt quite fine,
Just for me as a Valentine.
I felt that this was some kind of sign,
He told me not to pay any mind.
I told him this wasn't the thing to be done,
But he filled his belly full of rum -
Went out in the street shooting his gun.

A Stream of Nonsense

I passed a man or rather strolled on by,
I said "Hey brother" but he just rolled his eyes.
He said "I ain't your brother" and he didn't see,
That I didn't quite mean it literally.

I guess this was something he didn't understand,
And I kindly explained that I meant it as in "Brotherhood of Man"
Now I know my fashion and speak may be a little outdated,
But are these thoughts really so antiquated?

For it's these little things, runs my theory,
That filters up from communities, into entire countries.
Now you may think that this is a little naive,
But it is all I can do in this climate of war, madness and greed.

I hope that can you forgive me,
If this rhyme and meter aren't sleek,
But I've just woken up after a 16 hour sleep.
And before that I couldn't sleep, not even a peep.
And it's precisely these kinds of things,
That have kept me up all week.

Harry Whittington

Dick Cheney went out shooting,
Mistook a friend for a bird,
Shot him in the face and chest,
Then not a sound was heard.

They rushed him to the hospital,
Where they got him stabilized,
But later he had a heart attack,
That was nearly his demise.

Now Cheney had no license,
For the shooting of the quail,
So they tried to make a cover up,
But the press were on his tail.

It turns out that he'll just get a warning,
And not even an expected fine,
Tonight he'll be sitting on his sofa,
Sipping some expensive wine.
