Man of My Dreams

The feeling of being in love
Is like free-falling from up above
Stepping into empty air
With your whole soul to bare

Love gives me goose bumps & butterflies
As I lose myself further in his eyes
The most beautiful eyes I have ever seen
Eyes the colour of the purest emerald...green

He is perfect, he is mine
Right this second, everything is fine
Just close my eyes and say a prayer
That every day he will be there

His touch sends electric shocks
As every inch of my body he rocks
The trembling, the quivering, my body’s on fire
Moans coming together, sounds like a heavenly choir

The aftermath is peaceful…calm
As he traces love hearts into my palm
Mesmerised by his emerald green eyes
If he breaks my heart it will be my demise.

A Child Within

The sensation of butterflies flying within
As your heart joyously sings
An Angelic being growing inside
As your growing tummy gets harder to hide

The bond with your baby already so strong
You pray that nothing will go wrong
The instinct of the Mother already working
For any dangers that may be lurking

Your tummy ripples, your baby has awoken
The love you feel needs not be spoken
Upon your tummy you place your hand
On the growing bump that continues to expand

What a wonderful, magical time to be alive
Harbouring a soul that intends to eventually arrive
Keeping baby safe, warm and protected
While the umbilical keeps you literally connected

Being in control of the life of another
Is a great privilege to any a Mother
Never take this role for granted, EVER
As the way you shape your child, goes on forever.

Wild Weather

Looking out the window
Rain trickling down the pane
Oh how the wind does blow
Causing destructive, torrential rain

Trees are bent in half
Stray branches flying here and there
Screaming wind sounds like a maniacal laugh
Brings about anxiety and fear

Houses, buildings torn apart
Twisted metal becomes a spear
My God…please have a heart
The sight around me brings a tear

The minutes have felt like hours
The noise from hell has ceased
The gardens are stripped of their flowers
The hellish fury has been released.

A Day At the Beach

Foaming bubbles on the sand
As salty water reaches land
The thunderous sound of waves crashing
Children joyfully laughing and splashing

It is another Aussie Summer on the beach
Work and stress, way out of reach
Time to relax, soak up some rays
Take a step into a new phase

The gulls high above are soaring
In the white sand kids are drawing
Amateur love hearts in the sand
As loving couples walk hand in hand

There’s an abundance of happiness
Plenty of smiles and a kind of peacefulness
A warm glow, spreading out from within
Take a deep breath as your surroundings sink in

A myriad of ancient rock pools to explore
Full of oceans’ treasures galore
All odd and ends swept in from the sea
Discoveries made as imaginations run free

Water laps at your toes as you stand on the shore
Multi-coloured shell fragments lifted off the ocean floor
Are scattered haphazardly along the water line
Shells hammered by forces into shards so fine

A Mother holds a shell against her daughters’ ear
Explaining the ocean sound that you can hear
A wondrous smile grows on the child’s face
She is mesmerised by this magical place

The beach is unique, in a class of its own
A place to go for comfort or when you’re feeling alone
Aquamarine water and white tipped waves
Brings about great content, as your soul it saves.

Dedication To My Sister

My confidante, best friend…my Sister
You’ll never guess how much I’ve missed you
All throughout this past year
Many a time I’ve a shed a tear

Days when I just want you nearby
So upon your shoulder I can cry
Now once again we are together
I wish this week would go on forever

I love your smile and twinkling eyes
You brighten even the darkest skies
When you are here the puzzles complete
These are moments my memory will never delete

Memories of fun, family and sisterly love
Along with all the minor conflicts we rise above
A death stare…a cross word
Nothing will stop us from moving forward

Our love for each other is unconditional
Even though we butt heads and get a tad emotional
I could never contemplate holding a grudge against you
And I believe you feel the exact same way too

Staying mad at you is really quite hard
Cos your spontaneity catches me off guard
Your wonderful weirdness and crazy ways
Working you out is like conquering a maze

An abundance of talent and personality to boot
There are many reasons why, to you, I salute!
I look up to you for your strength inside
You shook off bad history, re-opening your arms again wide

Ready to embrace what life had planned
With your focus and drive, on your feet you did land
But it’s not all seriousness and work
Beyond this façade, your quirky side does lurk

This is the true you, who has us in hysterics
You’re funny and brilliant, there’s not a thing about you I’d fix
Your generosity towards your family is indescribable
A simple ‘Thank-you’ will never be suitable

You’ve given my daughter things I never could
You’ve done above and beyond what most Aunts’ would
I’ve been blessed to have a Sister like you
Not only a Sister…but a best friend too

There’s one part I hate about you arriving
Because no matter what…it leads to you leaving
So please promise me you’ll keep yourself safe and sound
Until this time next year comes back around.

The Odd Couple

The evenings are getting chilly
Time for the woolly socks and trackies to come out
My body is strange at the moment
It’s the coming of Winter
Yet my fan is still my constant companion
I sleep out on the lounge
I’m finding the bed too uncomfortable
What I have is called ‘Menopause’
It’s the changing of life
From what…I do not know
So while I’m rugging up at times
I’m trying to cool myself off at other times
The sweat stays at the back of my neck
My hair all wet
Meanwhile my daughter is in her room
Winter P.J’s and heater on
What an odd couple we make.

To My Daughter

How often do I say
My love grows for you everyday?
Each time you smile
You make everything worthwhile

The day your soul started growing
I found a certain peace and knowing
Something that comes with Motherhood
My role as Mother I understood

Your life was the best gift God gave me
An extension of my family tree
A daughter to be proud of
I thank the heavens above

I know sometimes we fight
Stubbornly we believe each one is right
But our arguments don’t last for long
As we finally see that fighting is wrong

You are like my best friend
You inspire me to no end
You are my guiding light
You give me reason to fight

You have a beautiful heart
And in life...that’s an integral part
A good recipe for happiness
And a lifetime full of kindness

Your spirit keeps me going
As your confidence keeps growing
You teach me day by day
How to live in the best way

We will always be together
Our hearts are joined forever
Even when death does us part
You will always stay in my heart.

Daddy's Little Girl

From the day I was born
Your life changed and you were sworn
To help me through life’s upheavals
And protect me from all of life’s evils

Your big strong hand held mine
You made me feel everything was fine
I loved being Daddy’s little girl
Being safe in your arms as we’d wildly twirl

But no matter how fast we’d go
I always felt safe, you know
Safe wrapped in your arms forever
As long as we were both together

You would call me your “Princess”
And tell me not to obsess
Over my freckles and big ears
As you would gently wipe away my tears

You explained that some kids were cruel
And told me your number one rule
To have faith and believe in your own soul
Then the negativity wouldn’t take its toll

You kept the smile upon my face
And taught me to have grace
To treat all people with respect
And take time out to reflect

On mistakes that have been made in the past
And to ensure my grudges don’t last
As life doesn’t like to waste time
And to waste time is a crime.

Great Grandfather

I knew an old wise Angel
Who was generous with his’ time
He could make anyone feel special
Until the stairway to heaven he did climb

He took me to my first confession
And had my rosary beads blessed
He introduced me to religion
And finding my faith became my quest

He told me the most wondrous stories
And had the wildest imagination
His stories still live in my memories
Cos we were characters in his creation

His lap was where we’d love to sit
He made us feel at home
Loving vibes he did emit
Love, the reason I wrote this poem

His name was Spencer Gagan
He was my Great Grandfather
A wonderful Christian, a great man
To me there was no other

He did what he could for everyone
And received nothing in return
Even his partner, and Peter, her son
Took him for granted without concern

He loved Peter like his own
Taking the place of his Dad
But when Peter was nearly grown
They up and left him alone, sad

He lived many hours away
So I treasured the time we spent
When he’d stay at Nan’s for a holiday
Until back home he went

He became ill and placed in a hostel
Where I think he was alone quite a lot
I’m not sure if he was cared for well
I hated the place, it was a depressing spot

We knew he wouldn’t last much longer
We would visit every second Sunday
His spirit weakened, where it used to be stronger
I would hold him tight, not knowing what to say

The last time I saw him, we held each others’ hand
He went to say my name but stopped
His memory disappearing like the sifting sand
My heart filled with sadness, just popped

Then a week or so later, while lying in bed
I awoke in early hours of the morning
To my Great Grandfather gently stroking my head
He had come to give me a warning

He had just passed and was on his way
He comforted me as I lay crying
He told me he wished he could stay
But the time had come, there was no compromising

He said so much but spoke not a word
And I understood the silence
Our bond grew stronger, my emotions stirred
As I witnessed his spirits disappearance

I woke my Sister to tell her what I knew
Tears falling from my eyes
The phone started ringing out of the blue
To inform Mum of Great Grandfathers’ demise.
