I Am Hiv - Aids

I AM HIV/AIDS

Saint Luke predicted me long time ago,
While the Book of Revelation warned you about me.
I am raging like a wild fire,
I am growling like a lion,
I have spotted you and I will pounce on you!
I am HIV/AIDS!

I attack people in all socio-economic and educational classes,
I cut across cultural and religious sects,
Graves and hospitals bear this testimony.
Despite significant medical accomplishments,
I remain incurable,
I am HIV/AIDS

From Africa to America, Australia to Asia and Artantica to Europe.
From Cape Provinces to Limpopo and Mpumalanga to Kwa-Zulu / Natal.
From Bekkersdal to Grobblersdal and Makapanstad to Marabastad.
From Sun Valley to Sun City and Mamelodi to Mametlhake.
From Witlagte to Langlagte and Suiwerskuil to Kromkuil.
I am reigning, I am HIV/AIDS.

Woe for the earth and for the sea,
Because I have descended in great anger to devour you!
I refer to you, who do not abstain,
I mean you there, who are not faithful,
And you here who do not condomise,
For I am HIV/AIDS.

Media has warned you,
Priests have preached at the top of their voices,
Politicians have cried loud,
Organizations and institutions have given you warnings,
But all these have come to naught,
Now I will kill you like flies, for I am HIV/AIDS

This is not news to you,
You will certainly catch me through unprotected sex,
Shared infected needles and syringes, contaminated blood,
And from an infected mother to her unborn child.
I then multiply in your blood, mercilessly attacking
Your defence system and leave you for the dead,
For I am HIV/AIDS.

You know this fully well;
You cannot catch me through
Sneezing, sharing toilet seats, coughing,
Or shaking hands with an infected person.
Behold, even if you are not infected,
You are affected by me, for I am HIV/AIDS.

Even though I am dreadful and mighty,
I will finally die and my heart is sore,
That will be when sense is finally knocked in your head,
That will be when you abstain from sex,
You remain faithful to your partner or condomise,
Remember, prevention is better than cure, for I am HIV/AIDS!

If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time

IF I COULD TURN BACK THE HANDS OF TIME....

If I could turn back the hands of time,
To sight of green grass and colourful flowers nod together,
In warm, quiet and friendly whisper in the midday breeze,
The language I could clearly treasure and understand,
Under the verdant branches in the veldt where I used to play.

If I could turn back the hands of time,
To melancholy songs of the cuckoo birds,
To the bees murmuring, small birds chanting merrily,
To the sounds of water in raging rivers and streams,
And the heavy pattering rain on the zinc roof.

If I could turn back the hands of time,
To smells of steaks and chips in the passageways,
Delightful odours of plants so sweet and strong,
To home brewed beers in the over-brimming glasses,
And the golden apple green as the fridge swings open.

If I could turn back the hands of time,
And feel warm heater air caressing me in winter,
The soft touch of aircon in the sweltering atmosphere,
Sweet taste of coffee and cold drinks to relieve fatigue as the sun breaks,
That made me dream of the events before tomorrow!

I used to stretch my hands, dressed myself and went where I wanted,
But now , with my joints all aching, senses fading and eyes gradually growing dim,
I stretch out my hands and somebody dresses me up,
And leads me to where I do not want to go,
Yes, I cannot turn back the hands of time now!

Beyond the Horizon

BEYOND THE HORIZON

Beyond the horizon, three oceans meet the sky,
It is the land of plenty; you cannot travel in a day,
It is wider than the man’s vision and has no end.
Beyond the horizon, there is peace of mind,
Crime, violence and death are no more,
The former things have passed away,
No more tears, mourning, cry or pain!

Beyond the horizon, in the middle of rivers Pishon, Tigris and Euphrates,
The earth and other planets revolve around the sun and their moons,
All forms of sicknesses have passed away,
The lame stand up, walk, run and dance,
The deaf hear the joyous sounds around them,
The blind enjoy the world of colour
In addition, see the faces of their loved ones for the very first time!

Beyond the horizon, I see water rising above the oceans,
We have become strong and healthy, all young and energetic,
No more eye glasses, no more crutches and walking canes,
No more medicine, no more dental clinics or hospitals,
The ravages of aging have been reversed.
Beyond the horizon, never again will emotional illnesses
And depression rob people of their happiness!

Beyond the horizon, even though we speak in different tongues
We have become one big family with no barriers to unity and brotherhood,
I see seven continents merging and fusing together,
Humans are at peace with animals,
Cats and dogs have forgiven each other,
Wolves and lambs, lions and buffaloes, jackals and goats feed together,
And all our domestic animals are totally safe!

Beyond the horizon, bright shining and filled with vigour,
Mankind have awaken to a new day of vibrant life and renewed energy,
For they will learn not war anymore, but the ever-lasting peace.
They have turned their destructive weapons into ploughshares,
And never again will the tranquillity of the world be disrupted by cruel people!
Mankind have been taught to treat each other with love, respect and dignity,
And they have shed their violent traits and have become peaceful forever!

Beyond the horizon, in the wonderful garden,
Even a little child has nothing to fear from wild animals
Behold, he dances with lions and bears,
As he rolls the mamba around his neck!
Look over there, the young woman talks to a puff adder and it listens!
No one’s home will have to be locked to keep thieves out,.
Peace have reigned in every heart and in every house,
What a peace our new world that is!

Look at us from a distance, beyond the horizon,
Somewhere where the rainbow ends, way up high,
There in the vineyard, where the rosy sun drips over Sun Valley,
God himself is with humankind,
Look, He is wiping off every tear from our faces!
We have come a long, long way and have worked hard to come to this paradise,
We will be a silly so and so if we should ever let this beautiful!

Shattered Dream

SHATTERED DREAM

Rated the wise and best striker of the under nineteen’s,
On the playing field, left opposing defenders with headaches,
Rival coaches, trainers and fans with heartaches,
And labelled the inspiration for the teens!
As a result, my heart over-brimmed with joy,
For that career was worth and wisely chosen.
With tears oozing now, painfully lie I awaken,
For me, there is no more joy.
With leg amputation, my ability is permanently impaired,
After vehicle capsized, all dead save me.
But my dream to part of the world’s best completely shattered.
``Does God always care?`` I fondly asked the lad,
``Rejoice, being saved and alive shows that He
Loves and cares for you and me,`` he uttered.

I Will Never See Them Again

I Will Never See Them Again

“Abide with me . . . , as the darkness deepens,
When earth’s joy grows dim . . . , its glory passes away,
Through darkness and sunshine . . . , oh, abide with me!”
Repeatedly invoking the grace of God to wash away pains and sorrows,
And also harmonizing in the background with the force that illuminated
The nighty skies echoed this hymn, sounds of instruments and drums!
I will never see those slain guardians of law again,
To share those precious moments,
Like we used to do in the living years!

In that sweltering evening atmosphere,
Police officers in uniform had to hold back tears while saluting,
When widowed spouses, children, colleagues
And parents of police officers laid wreaths to honour
Their loved ones who laid down their lives protecting ours,
In honour of their call to serve and protect us.
I will never see them again,
To share those precious moments,
Like we always used to do in the living years!

Four South African Police Service helicopters carrying the National Flags,
Hovered above the Union Building, as the Police Code of Conduct,
Was acknowledged by the Minister of Police, a sign of
Selflessness of the police officers, who died on line of duty,
And a pledge by all who live on (a norm in the South African Police Services!)
But how much longer do we have to see these guardians of law murdered this way?
I will never see them again,
To share those precious moments
Like we used to do in the living years!

As the flag was flown at half-mast at the Union Building
All stood up motionless, their eyes directed at the flag,
Amid the deafening silence of the evening atmosphere,
Some sighed, sounds of grief audible, tears oozed
From some of the friends, family members and colleagues,
Thinking of hardships of living without their loved ones.
I will never see them again,
To share those precious moments
Like we used to do in the living years!

Mixed emotions were invoked as friends and family members
Of the deceased were finally walked the red carpet,
In honour and respect, as others` bright shining pride
Lit up the Union Building, others sobbed with great grief,
Despair and deep sorrow during this moving ceremony,
The South African Police Service Commemoration day!
I will never see them again,
To share those precious moments
Like we always used to do in the living years!

Mother and Son Re-Unite

MOTHER AND SON RE-UNITE

I was phoned by an old friend Blessing,
Who told me that her one and only son,
Who was once reported missing,
Has been found after a decade lying in sweltering sun.
In his pre school years or somewhere there about,
She left him in care of elderly nurse in white,
In the trust she did not doubt,
On returning, the nurse and the boy were all out of sight!
The news that the hospital did not employ that nurse,
Send in my friend’s heart, a terrible fright!
When the nurse and the boy’s descriptions were finally broadcast,
Brought in the inside of the nurse, the worse!
As the law net finally closed, the nurse deserted him in broad day light,
Her heart beating very fast, she outran the police in the ever-whirling dust!

Come, Come Fly Me To Mars

COME, COME FLY ME TO MARS

Come, come, my guiding light,
Fly me to the skies in the highest above,
To be the heavenly guest, amongst the angels,
To the hospitable, intriguing and luring destination,
Amongst the stars of heaven and their constellations!

When I ride on the wings of dusk,
Our dreams reflect through the bright moonlight.
The rising of Aries from the twilight sea,
And the setting age of Libra in the distant horizon,
Bring hopeful tides and dreams that forever rule over our destiny!

When I ski on the broad flat rings of Saturn,
I see the yellow sun rise in your sweet blue eyes.
When I settle on the far side of the roars of rough seas of Venus,
And the life giving spirit grows faint within me in Jupiter,
You illuminate me with energy and recharge my batteries!

As I journey endlessly and ascend through spacecraft,
East of the stimulating Sun and west of the arousing Moon,
To the endless new sound of the Ram’s horn,
Surely, the sun will not smite me by the day,
Nor the moon at night, with you beside me!

Come; come fly me to Mars, to our heavenly destination,
To the red planet teeming with intricate canals,
To waterways, rivers and silver lakes so intelligently designed,
To the planetary satellites, so intriguing and amusing,
Whose variety and colour continue to invoke awe and wonder!

When Mars is aligned to the Sun, Mercury, and Venus,
Saturn, Earth, and Pluto are on one straight line,
Jupiter entering Leo, Moon squatting in Capricorn,
Uranus awakening and Neptune unifying us,
Surely, love and peace will engulf us for all eternity!

Oh, my guiding light, please take my hand and show me around!
Let me see what Summers and Autumns are like in Mars,
And when we awake to the seasons of singing,
Flowers blossoming and early fruits forming,
With sweet smelling scents to adore,
Surely, this is the dawning age of our Spring in Mars

My Friend, You Are Sick

MY FRIEND, YOU ARE SICK

My friend, you are sick!
That invisible, dreadful and mighty virus
Often talked about in televisions and radio’s
And public and print media at large,
Has found in you a hospitable host
And destroys your life in delight!

My friend I know, you are sick!
The battle against the virus is not lost yet,
Regrets and turning back the hands of time in mind
Will not help but aggravate the disease.
A visit to the hospital for Anti Retroviral
And healthy living and eating will help you cope!

My Lucky Day

MY LUCKY DAY

The slow sun rises,
Shines brightly through the window pane,
Reflects rosy hue on the grey bedroom walls.

The sparrow catches the worm,
Watches and eats it raw,
And from the straw, drinks the morning dew!

The dove coos uncontrollably loud,
Feeds the nestlings whose heads are never still,
As the nearby trees, become alive with moths.

The flower garden springs to life,
Roses waft their fragrance in the breeze,
Butterflies flaps and bees buzz.

It is my forty fifth birthday,
My lucky day,
And what a ruptured dream!

Book: Reflection on the Important Things
