The Only Thing I See

THE ONLY THING I SEE

The only thing I see is sapphire
The ornament hasn’t passed through a fire
It was held loosely with a thin wire
Scavengers around treated it as a ‘sire’
The crave for it was awesome, strong desire
Somewhat became an obsession, quite dire

The only thing I see is success
Mind you, I haven’t gone on a recess
I only need someone to help with an access
One that will review my proposal: to assess
God’s mercy can unlock favour, not a mistress
Hardwork, faith, hardwork and a good business

The only thing I see now is upliftment
We haven’t reached the age of retirement
All steps taken; even the right adjustment
Times are tough; focus needed not merriment
Though many have failed even with good judgement
Optimism is very essential to move from the basement

The only thing I see is Mercy
Am not talking of that friend of Lucy
It opened doors to everything that’s Juicy
How else could we have left such Legacy
Even our foes initially mumbled Fallacy
They seem to have recovered from apparent Lunacy

The only thing I see is divine Grace
Am not talking of the damsel in fine Lace
I mean the one you get when you seek His Face
A gift that’s available to people of all Race
Those who have chosen to win life’s Race
Trust and rest on God, he surely has the Ace

2015: We Are Survivors

2015: WE ARE SURVIVORS

Enemies thought 2015 won’t be our YEAR
They opined that our progress won’t be NEAR
They said among our peers, we would be REAR
Maliciously they instilled in us a kind of FEAR
Even our goodwill and image, enemies did SMEAR
But our God was awesome and brought us CLEAR

In January, enemies waged war against our HEALTH
In June, they now came and attacked our WEALTH
We heard the evil ones have a COMMONWEALTH
They waged the war, unknown to us, in STEALTH
The evil people hid their drawn swords in SHEATH
But Our God did not allow us lose our BREATH

On this last day, we have shown we are SURVIVORS
The holy book says “we are more than CONQUERORS”
In the new year 2016, we shall continue to be VICTORS
To our foes and wailers, we shall be their RAPTORS
The anointing for breakthrough shall, in us, ABIDE
In the presence of the most High, we shall RESIDE

Wordfor Today: Ethics

WORD OF THE DAY: ETHICS

Science and Engineering have benefitted immensely from PHYSICS
Another major concept that has hastened aeronautics is KINETICS
But science is itself a noble profession with its values and ETHICS
Scientists are neither known for oratory prowess nor PHONETICS
Yet they have produced drugs that are as effective as ANESTHETICS
All these and many more were attained with or without AESTHETICS

Word For Today: Respect

Team members must be made to understand what customers EXPECT
Leaders must emphasize the importance and reciprocity of RESPECT
Those who fail to respect others may not blossom even if a PROSPECT
Respect for rule of law: constituted authority, is another major ASPECT
Prison or cellmates must be respected by peers; especially a SUSPECT
Policies on staff interaction must be implemented, in RETROSPECT

Word For Today: Development

WORD FOR TODAY: DEVELOPMENT

Ignorance and complacency must never remain Africa’s IMPEDIMENT
The world has moved up a notch; massive growth with DEVELOPMENT
While the Western nations covet innovations, we want EMPOWERMENT
While transparency reigns yonder; Africa is battling EMBEZZLEMENT
We still deceive ourselves that in strength; we remain the EMBODIMENT
My fear is that other nations will advance and make us an EXPERIMENT

Give a Thought For the Future

A rational person must have thoughts about now; and the FUTURE
The holy book says he must live his life as if tomorrow is RAPTURE
This is the minimum expectation that GOD has for any CREATURE
Relationships that are without any value; he must try to RUPTURE
His conduct must be exemplary; just like linen with fine TEXTURE
He must stand out with his integrity; and not go with the MIXTURE

Authority on Earth is usually announced by the presence of a MACE
Though we know that those in authority are beneficiaries of GRACE
Football leaders are not appointed just because one scored a BRACE
Neither is anyone made team captain because a shoe, you can LACE
You will see passion and dedication; if leaders’ story you can TRACE
Those who will rule the future must run life’s race at a faster PACE

To have a better future, we must make investments in the PRESENT
We must be sensitive; when opportunities come, never be ABSENT
When proponents of progress approach us; we give our CONSENT
We remain vocal against laziness and notoriety; show our DISSENT
If you want a better future: Then, a change of attitude, you ASSENT
Necessity usually leads to invention; thus, travails may be GOD-SENT

Felicia

FELICIA (dedicated to the efforts of all on the HIV/AIDS scourge)

Rapturous ecstasy emanates from the town
Everyone, everywhere spoke of this damsel
She has just newly packed into town
Gossips could be seen around in their clusters:
"Who is she and where is she from?"

More to that, like a magnetic attraction
Felicia draws the attention of residents to herself
Wives are holding tight to their husbands;
The surely of Felicia is surely a threat.
Not even with her skimpy skirts and dresses

Felicia cuts the image of an angel
With her flawless grammar and sense of humour
The bulge of her regions make lookers apopletic
Her steps typify the menacing walk of a cat
She has all it takes for men to turn around

Society people want to have a taste of her
Women desire her to boost their ego
The mighty, the influential and intellectual inclusive
A King once offered her half of his kingdom
A Governor dangled a mouth-watering contract
A Vice Chancellor even offered her 'Medicine Admission'

Felicia suddenly became cheap and accessible
Initial ego and applause faded into thin air
She went up for the Goliaths to chew,
She came down for the crawling to lick.
She offered her body, a ransom for all
Promiscous men were happy to have their fill

Gloom, sorrow and tears soon pervaded the town
The toll of death was rising by the day
Surviving men depict postures of 'Somalian famine'
Their blood almost drained to the marrows
There was a peculiarity in their deaths
Only those who pitched tents with Felicia are victims

Soon the mist began to clear
I then could see beyond the ordinary
I'd ransacked every material available for clarity
The word of knowledge then came from ABOVE
The second name of FELICIA is AIDS

2016: Another Shot At Greatness

2016: ANOTHER SHOT AT GREATNESS
The opportunity came at a fast PACE
Much faster that my shoes, I couldn’t LACE
Had to join the wagon and run the RACE
Had I missed out, shame all over my FACE
Attitude must be right if you desire a SPACE
Everyone wants a better life, even the POPULACE
To succeed in life, one must be willing and BOLD
Competition is stiff if one intends to join the FOLD
Reception at the top is never friendly but COLD
My prayer is to breakthrough early not when OLD
Good name also important even more than GOLD
Commitment, an essential quality, I was TOLD
My past, though, offer little prospect for SUCCESS;
But my zeal and hardwork can offer me an ACCESS
To achieve my goals, and even marry a PRINCESS.
Success is a continuum, there is no time for RECESS
The wise ones amass so much wealth and build a FORTRESS
Therein they have all the fun and keep their MISTRESS
In 2016, providence is offering a shot at GREATNESS
Another chance to reverse all the RECKLESSNESS
I either grab it with all the required SERIOUSNESS
Or end up with a life of regrets and HOPELESSNESS
My prayer is for the wisdom to decipher the TIMES
And make a success in life as if singing in RHMES

Word For Today: Patent

WORD FOR TODAY: PATENT

Ideas and inventions have commercial value if packaged as a PATENT
The document legally prevents any unauthorized use of the CONTENT
Many inventors have been plagiarized because the attack was LATENT
Pirates usually have subtle ways of stealing ideas; they hide the INTENT
Harsh reality is these beneficiaries of others’ sweat are INCOMPETENT
Registering trademarks, ideas and inventions make them quite POTENT

Not a Hair Was Lost

NOT A HAIR WAS LOST

When he walked away, I was at a LOW
Well-wishers wondered what caused the ROW
He had a new idea and assumed I wouldn’t FLOW
I assured that to the new line, I would TOW
My pleas and prayers almost caused me a BLOW
But I lifted myself up and decided henceforth to GLOW

I looked inwards and worked on my WEAKNESS
I mustn’t allow the loneliness to cause a SICKNESS
My strengths can surely take me to GREATNESS
Few qualities must be added to passion; like MEEKNESS
Many have risen from obscurity to AWESOMENESS
My Pastor also advised I covet RIGHTEOUSNESS

Alas! Fortune decided to come my WAY
It shone so brightly like a strong RAY
The first signs came in the month of MAY
A friend even wanted to know where I PRAY
I even had to relocate from where I used to STAY
The new place was more expensive; yet I could PAY

Not a hair was lost despite initial DESPAIR
But God’s mercy did the necessary REPAIR
All the blessings came my way; as a PAIR
Wealth and health; Greatness with FUNFAIR
I didn’t have to kill; all free as the AIR
An analyst even drew comparison with McNair

Book: Reflection on the Important Things
