Where To Look

When you feel blind sighted and aren’t sure where to look for a way out,
Look inside.
You’re the only one who knows what you’re capable of.
Look deep for bravery.
Look up for guidance.
Turn to your side for support.
Life is only as meaningful as you make it.
Life is only as adventurous as the risks you take.
Life is only as stupid as the assumptions you make.
Life is only as lovely as the friends’ hands you shake.
Life is only as amazing as the blessings you share.
Life is only as dangerous as hoping everyone will care.
You never know who can be your friend,
You never know what they can offer.
You never know when they’ll be gone.
Take heart in the moment,
Be mindful to the situation.
Forget the past but remember the lesson.
Nothing will ever reoccur the same.
You may have to pay a fare but hop along for the ride.
Every experience teaches you something new.
More stories to tell,
More people to come.
Walk slow,
Learn fast,
Care often,
Love deeply,
Have no regrets.

The Box of Schools Conformity

A teacher steps in front of a class.
“Today we will be learning…”
Your bias?
Your inability to respect us?
The fact that you don’t want to be here?
Her mouth continues to move but I can’t zone back in.
Why do we attend class?
So we all think the same?
To never improve our economy?
I pay for a professor to take away my creativity.
She gives me an “A” for conformity.
Every teacher teaches with his or her own style,
Each student thinks with their own opinions.
No person gets the same education.
The one thing we all learn is there’s no such thing as accepted individuality.
They say reach for the stars,
But the curriculum chains our arms down.
One would suggest- think outside the box
What is a box?
Is it adults’ inability to heed?
The parameters of others intelligence’s demise?
To think outside; to exceed,
Though society isolates and punishes when we do.
You demand our ideas not be connected.
How can we do this when we are required to posses the same perspective?
Were brought up to follow.
If you have to think outside the box, why is there even a box?
Why not get rid of it?
Better yet…
Then the teacher regains my focus and asks,
“Taylor, what do you think?”
I allow silence to fill the room and take time to respond,
“..Destroy it”

Spoil Me

Is it that such a bad thing?
To want to tell you everything?
I need to hear your voice,
I need that reassurance.
I need you.
I have you,
but you're busy.
I respect that but respect my need.
Do i make too much time for you?
Or is that me putting you first?
I love you but i want to be spoiled.
Just everyone in a while,
i want to be the thing that comes first and feel bad for being spoiled.
I want to tell you to pay attention to others because you're hung up on me.
I want to feel like you really would rather be no where else.
Everyone once in a while,
Just spoil me.

I Want To Be

I want to write to be inspirational.
I want to write so others won’t fear to be confrontational.
I want you to read my works and say “Damn that was motivational!”
I want to be the one you seek after for guidance and truth.
I want you to grow confidence that is through the roof.
I want my words to brighten someone’s day,
I want my thoughts to drive one in a powerful way.
Is that bad of me to say?
Is it wrong I want to change a life?
Is it a crime I want to pull one away from strife?
Why can’t I pine after such a mission?
Because you and everyone else settle hurt and change by submission?
I want to change rather than conform.
How shall I accomplish this?
What works for you may not work for me.
I’ll just speak on what the world needs to see.
Men crying,
Girls objectifying,
Teens denying the need to conform,
Women waiting for marriage til a baby is born.
Men using fists rather than guns so mothers don’t have to mourn.
Young love, not young and drugged.
Respect for ourselves as women.
Men don’t just disrespect with their hands, but as well with their eyes.
And yet you want pants tight around your thighs.
If you put as much effort into school as you do looking cute, you would thrive.
Use your mind to maximize.
You wanted to be treated as an equal but you’re too busy finding ways to complain.
If you continue to let your success be compromised,
There’s no room to optimize.
I may not know you, but I know what you can do.
I know there’s nothing you can’t construe,
Nothing except for you.
You can be bigger than Ghandi, Oprah, or Muhammad Ali,
But what I find touching is up to me.
So I suppose I fail to influence and move,
Then again,
Isn’t that up to you?

Worried

Is it such a bad thing to be worried?
Worry means you care,
Concern is to be aware.
I used to view it as overbearing,
but now i understand.
He's the one I'm in love with,
I'm not thinking about sharing.
It's the fact that you were so deeply in love,
i want to be the only one on your mind.
She was almost the end of our almost beginning.
I try to be kind.
It's just ill never find anyone like you again,
Maybe if you gave me what i needed i wouldn't be so worried.
Or if i were confident enough to have that talk,
maybe you and her friendship would be ok then.
Of course i turn this on me,
but since theres no communication,
I'm just a tad worried.

Purposes, Dreams

How do you come across a dream?
How do you come across a desire?
You don't.
It comes across you.
Why do we look so hard for meaning?
For a purpose.
If you knew your purpose,
it would be fulfilled.
Why were we so quick to grow up?
To forget?
Because now we wish we would have cherished time better,
appreciate it.
Do you notice- when we're content with what is,
things come when they're supposed to?
Tomorrow is coming whether we want it or not.
Get ready.
Let it come, enjoy today.
Why worry when you have no control?
You never remember the beginning of a dream,
you never remember how you got there.
So stop waiting for a reason, a way in.
Just get there.

When I Gaze

I catch myself gazing off when i'm missing you, and i find you.
I imagine what we'd do, how you'd kiss me or what you'd say
I often dream of you and can't wait for that day.
The day when your gaze warms my body not to mention when your arms embrace me,
The day i run up to you and youll tell me how much youve missed me.
I kiss you and hold you and we'll walk and hold hands,
For that short yet meaningful time, we'll surrender all to what our love demands.
Not only do i get caught in a trance even when you're not around,
My whole heart, my mind, body, and soul goes to you, hands down.
I know what i have with you,
To keep you happy, there's nothing i wouldn't do.
Not a day goes by that i don't think of you.
I promise to stay honest and true
It's that simple,
Because you're amazing and i love you.

Let It Go

How do you sit amongst nature
and call yourself beautiful?
How can you be around
conversations and call yourself
sociable?
How is it possible to see hands
interlocked, eyes deep in lust,
wonder, and excitement and
not believe in love?
No not love, a chance at love.
Not even love, happiness or
hope even for a little bit.
Why can’t you give yourself a
chance?
Why can’t you consider allowing
yourself to partake in uplifting
opportunity?
Let’s think.
Men climb the tallest mountain
in the world,
Women, whom doctors profess
unable, give birth.
Not only can blacks vote, we
can vote for one.
There’s a child struggling for
hope, happiness, and a home,
But you can’t give me your
hand.
It’s all matters of the mind, you
see.
Pay attention to your heart.
Where have you been?
Why did you leave?
And why go back,
You've become anew.
Why hold your fears as a
priority?
Fear does nothing but limit,
Fear teaches nothing but
excuses.
Is it really fear or letting your
mind stay suspended?
Your trunk of an imagination
claims these dreams lacking
leaves.
Stare at the naked branches all
you please but they won’t
appear with the breeze.
Wait, there’s a leaf, it’s
different from your previous.
Its bright green, but a little
worn.
It’s a start.
A start to rebuilding and
remembering.
There’s another only two steps
away, why not take it?
It’s a little out of reach, two
steps and you’re there.
You’re not leaving your tree,
you’re bettering it.
Clothe your mind and soul with
what the wind blows in.
It’s definitely different, but who
says it’s not time for a change?
They say- If you want
something you’ve never had,
you must do something you’ve
never done.
But you can hold the same
aspirations just make a few
adjustments.
You could find someone to
genuinely support those
There’s a whole world you’ve
yet to see,
Step outside your backyard.
Step into the unknown to
eliminate the unknown within
yourself.
How do you sit amongst nature
and call yourself ugly?
How can you be around
conversations and call yourself
a loner?
Explore happiness.
Engage yourself, no.
Submerge.
You’re trying to stay afloat,
But is it really worth the wasted
strength?

Obstacle Course

I’ve had struggled through long nights of sobbing.
Days of questioning,
Wanting reasoning.
Mental threatening.
There were things I just couldn’t answer, but still seeked.
I set boundaries for my self but still cheated, still peaked.
When someone comes along to help you see things for what they are,
They present you with something valuable.
They present you with a new outlook,
New mindset,
New hopes and dreams,
A new start, not to mention an open heart.
They help you strive,
They help you cope.
They help you live.
I used to stumble through life as an obstacle course,
You've helped me view it as a playground.
I play tag, you’re it.
Not to mention a perfect fit.
I swing high, through the sky.
I’m telling you, I’m madly in love with this guy.
I jumped through the air,
and I’m yet to hit the ground.
Don’t let me down, just always be around.
I dance with the clouds,
And am led to a new journey.
Light of the feet is light of the heart.
You’ve been doing your part.
I can be alone with my own thoughts,
I have more friends
I give myself a fair shot.
I can’t explain how you’ve helped me improve and turned me a new leaf.
After years of work, I’m sure I’ve caused you grief.
I just thank you for not giving up you see, because when I wake up I can finally breathe.
To sum it all up, my world is finally right.
I believe in myself so much may just take flight
I finally land and I’m not just anywhere.
I’ve placed my feet,
Right next to you, the only place I want to be.
You’ve fixed just about everything for me.
I used to stumble through life as an obstacle course; you've helped me view it as a playground
And you’re playing on it with me.

As You Lie Down

As you lie down, let your pillow soften your fears.
As you close your eyes,
Let your prayers reach God.
Let your mind be filled with what could be,
Let your mind forget what you were taught.
As you drift off into sleep,
remember the excitement that tomorrow may bring.
As dreams take place in your mind,
take advantage with what can be.
As you awake, thank Him for bringing you to witness another day,
Show thankfulness through opportunities you are given.
And as the day goes on remember your dreams and make them a reality.
You're fully capable,
But where will you begin?
