Just a Woman

It’s been a long time
Since I’ve felt an angel’s touch
It’s been a long while
Since I’ve laughed this much
I’ve been burdened by my past
Afraid to let it go
To forgive the sins I know I’ve made
It took a long time to know
That I am just a woman
Who’s never had the chance
To spread my wings and fly away
To be happy when I dance
To appreciate the sunshine
That I have so much to give
I’m stronger than I thought I was
And I’m learning how to live
Time had just been passing
years have come and gone
Never taking any credit
For battles I had won
Now I treasure every moment
I’ve learned to take a bow
Living well is ageless
And time does allow
To be just a woman
Who’s not afraid to fall
Who recognizes courage
Who deserves to have it all
I’ve discovered my own passions
I’ve left the past behind
I can climb any mountain
Not afraid to find…that
I am just a woman
Who’s never had the chance
To spread my wings and fly away
To be happy when I dance
I appreciate the sunshine
I have so much to give
I’m stronger than I thought I was
I’m learning how to live.

God's Plans

The journey of the inner soul is an adventure of the mind
The fear of failure dominates the path you cannot find
You start rebelling as a youth to soothe your sorted past
Surrendering to lethal ways, emotions that don’t last
The scheme of life then sustains a disregard for good
The psyche has fooled you once again to think you understood
Matters of the heart incite a tear from God’s own eye
He challenges your distant stance but he hears no reply
Motivated by your pain, avenging shattered dreams
The choice is made to blame yourself, the end justifies the means
Retaliation takes it’s toll, revenge is not so sweet
Alone your left to lick your wounds, experiencing defeat
Your pursuit now takes a twisted turn to rectify your wrongs
Repentance comes a bit too late you find you don’t belong
Consumed with sorrow for the loss you fall on bended knee
You plead with time to take you back or end the misery
Adjusting time to fit your needs you choose a solitary path
Never daring to open up to expose a bitter wrath
Foolish clues are left behind on the passage of mistrust
You quench your fears determined pessimism is a must
Attractiveness now obsolete, a body once was fine
Gives up the struggle to compete and now just prays for time
Much too busy to contest nature’s irritating ruse
No longer able to invest in dreams you’ll never use
An aggressive self-assertion, an annoying point of view
Assist in the discomfort of the idle part of you
The arrogance of freedom and the mortifying pride
Yearns for simple innocence left withering inside
The taste of life is bitter sweet, God’s plans have been revealed
You try your best to seize control while waiting to be healed.

The Man Who Was So Dumb

Driving down the interstate it didn’t take long to see
It was clear through the pouring rain what was ailing me
There’s a sign up ahead,
Welcome to Tucson it read
I’m coming home where I’m supposed to be

There’s a man thumbing for a ride minutes from the town.
He’s soaking wet so I stop my truck and I turn around.
He climbs in,
With a big, fat grin,
Grateful for the ride that he’d found.

And he said, “thank you kindly mister, I’d given up all hope,
My wife and baby daughter are waiting there at home,
I’d never want to hurt her, the way her ex had done,
He ran off to go and have some fun,
And I’m grateful to the man who was so dumb”.

I asked if he was willing to have a bite to eat,
He said, ”sure don’t worry, it’ll be my treat”.
Walked into a bar and grill
Shaking off the chill,
He started talking a’soon as we found our seats.

He said he was coming in from Phoenix where he’d gone to find
The ex who hurt his loving wife and left her in a bind,
Just to set things right,
He didn’t want to fight,
He just had to shake the hand of a man so blind.

He said, “thank you kindly mister, my car left me stuck,
I sure do appreciate a ride in your old truck,
My wife must be worried, that I’d do what her ex had done,
He ran off to go and have some fun,
I’m grateful to the man who was so dumb”.

He said, “I just have to show her, not all men are bad,
See she was carrying his child; he was all she had,
She never got to tell him,
Things were looking grim,
It’s been two years and now she’s not so sad”.

He showed me a picture, I couldn’t believe my eyes,
The woman I thought be waiting for me had found a man who’s wise,
He wouldn’t hurt her,
He’d never desert her,
I knew right then I’d have to break those ties.

And he said, “thank you kindly mister, I’d given up all hope,
My wife and baby daughter are waiting there at home,
I’d never want to hurt her the way her ex had done,
He ran off to go and have some fun”
Then he shook the hand of the man that was so dumb.
