The Last Run

As we pulled out of Indiana, Headed onto that long highway, We would ride into the sunrise; Searching all the lost by-ways. The wonders that we saw Still haunt my soul at times, As with many other writings, You must read between these lines. I'd known you since our childhood, And we were pushing 45, But going faster was the time; As we took that last long ride. The doctors said "just weeks", And I was so sick too; But your request was my blessing, I'd do anything for you. We camped under the moon, God's stars shone on our sleep; And you gave your heart to Jesus, For Him to safely keep. Out in Phoenix Arizona, You took your last earthly breath; And your soul went home to Jesus, There was victory in death. Oh, the heartache that I felt, And still feel it today; I guess it will be with me Somewhere inside, always. "D", you know I love you, Just wait on "Be My" son; I'll expect a good long hug, When I make my final run. Pokey 2011

Ker-Chew

There once was a sneeze named “Ker-chew” His cousin next door was named “Flu” He found "cold" in the hallway, And threw up on the walkway, I do hope he doesn’t find you! ~written for Gwendolyn's challenge~

In the Shadow of a Rainbow

In the shadow of a rainbow, We'll walk hand in hand. Shimmering spirits together, Just like God had planned. In the shadow of a rainbow, I'll walk with you, my friend. God's love fills up our hearts, And will through journey's end. In the shadow of a rainbow, Such wondrous signs abound. In the shadow of a rainbow, Upon God's sacred ground. In the shadow of a rainbow, I'll wait for you, my friend. We'll share our wondrous blessings, Where joy shall never end. "Pokey" Denise Lanford (this poem was inspired by a Native American saying "we have walked in the shadow of a rainbow" when something wondrous was seen or experienced. We all walk in the shadow of rainbows if we open our eyes!)

I'M Free

God, I've questioned you so often On this journey we've been through... You've proven to me ore and ore, To just put my trust in you. I hear your gentle whisper Telling me so many things, Oh the joy beyond belief Just knowing you does bring. You've told me that I'm free, From condemnation here, And that with you I walk in wisdom And can take it anywhere. To use all for your glory, That you have blessed me with, For it is not my own, You have let me borrow it. Would I love the souls, You have placed upon my way? Would I share your glory, Each and every day? Would I come to realize, How real to me you are? Not some silent spirit, Somewhere among the stars. You're right here in my heart, You're in my husband's eyes, You're everywhere I look, You choose not to disguise. Oh Lord, my soul is singing, Your peace and love it holds, I pray that everyone I meet Takes one look at me and knows; That mighty is my loving God, Who wants good things for me, And through His grace and Mercy, My soul He has set free!

Hearts Entwined

Our hearts are entwined, by God's own mighty hand, What a blessed gift to us, He reached across the land.. Said "Children now, dear children.. You know you love each other.. And it is time you made it clear, It's more than "sisters and brothers".. You each have felt this way For many moons now gone, A gift of love I give to you, Within your hearts, a song. Sing it now with gladness, Show the joy within your souls, I give to you each other, To share life as you grow old. I know that you will honor me, I know that you will see That life is more abundant, When it is spent with me. I love you so dear children, Don't worry about anything, I'll take care of all things, Enjoy the wonders love can bring."

Dipped In Heaven's Gold

Dipped in Heaven's Gold Blessings sent to us from God, Should never be taken for granted. It's the little things that mean so much, When the smallest seeds are planted. These special people in our lives, Have hearts dipped in Heaven's gold. It seems God sends them to our lives, For us to keep as we grow old. What Blessed gifts He showers down,, What wondrous things bestowed. These friends that he has sent to us, With hearts dipped in Heaven's gold! You, my friend, are one of those, Whose heart just can't contain, All the golden love inside, Through sunny days or rain. God opens up the gates of Heaven, And rains down blessings untold. Living in the hearts of friends, That are dipped in Heaven's gold! Pokey lanford

Every Color of My Rainbow

You're every color of my world, With rainbows all around, You color my life with happiness, With this love through God we've found. I love you for your wit, I love you for your tenderness, I'll love you for eternity, This love is just such bliss. Yes, it will last forever, With brilliant colors of love, Like a multicolored rainbow, Placed by God above.

Of Missing Parts

Often times, I'd sit and wonder, What life might hold for you.. And you, of course, would understand The reasons why I do. Do you know how much I needed you? Because it's in you, I find.... Those parts of me I need the most, The reasons for the rhyme. So many things I thought I knew.. Until God shared you with me... Now, I've pondered other thoughts, Of life as it's going to be. So these, I'll keep within myself, Since you know where to find, Shadows I'd forgotten about, In corners of my mind.... Mirrored in your eyes I see Reflections of my soul.. Handle please, this heart with care, That piece of me you hold. You, I love, but this you know. If only I now could find a way, To show you just how much I care, God speed that blessed day.

I See Beyond

I see beyond the dimness Of the distant hazy past, Into the book of knowledge, And I'm homeward bound at last. I see beyond myself, Into your loving ways, I see beyond so many things I didn't yesterday. I see beyond the anger, I see beyond the pain, I see beyond my waywardness, I see beyond the gain. I see beyond tomorrow, I see beyond today, I see beyond humanity, I see beyond the grave.

You Whisper Love

You whisper love so tenderly Toward horizons in the distance, The wind gently blows it here, I can feel it in an instant. As sunsets slowly slip away, Each day just draws so near, To that time the winds of change Will gently bring you here. My love for you is endless, For time cannot erase, What I feel inside my heart, Exceeds distance and space. You whisper love so tenderly, I'll love you for all time. I Praise the Lord for the gift of us, A blessing so divine.
