Dystopian Dignity

Sweeping through what once was mine
Gazing at this ravaged shrine
Composing the vitals in thoughts divine
Cut my losses and bleed through time
Here I'll stand along these lines

Chimerical dreams in the hands of Morpheus
Acidic tears that corrode the capricious
Inscrutable plans that defy the obvious
Vanishing ties that remove the analogous
A grudge in perfection, deception, insidious

Volatile remarks that hold me in check
If I may be so bold, my tongue is direct
A propensity for temper, yet I am select
Now I'll take my leave, sabbatical, reflect
What is not right, is left and a wreck

Developing memories of my past
Implausible interjections that speak to the last
Feral remarks that hold tight and hold fast
I bow to you, grief, for I've been outclassed
A terse line of humor that leaves them aghast

Clandestine demons that dwell in my brain
Delusion of wonder, they're one and the same
Enclose the clairvoyant, set free the deranged
What I have lost is now mine in shame
Forthwith I give you my word, I'll be back again

Playwright

What say you to a game of cards?
But, sir, how much better you are!

A game of chess, mayhap is bought?
Sir, you are witty, and beat you I'll not!

Then perhaps a turn about the hall?
Surely not, for I will fall!

How's your skill with arrow and bow?
I should tell you to lay low!

A sword, then, is your take?
Only, sir, if it is fake!

Horseback riding-of this do you fear?
Oh most definitely, for the horse will rear!

Is there nothing you can do?
Why, I'll play hearts with you!

What is this if I may ask?
Beware, for it's no easy task!

I'm up for the challenge, what entails?
Reciprocation, sir, for the one who fails!

Deal-I say, when do we start?
Never, sir, for you've stolen my heart!

Certain Reality

I’m mostly self-conscious, a bit oblivious
Completely outgoing, but then that’s obvious
I’m addicted to Dr. Pepper because it’s my cocaine
And I love the darkness when it rains
I’m a bit pessimistic and collectively sarcastic
I’ve been described as eccentric and somewhat too drastic
I’m an artist in my heart, soul, and mind
I love to laugh so my mouth will be lined
I’m a believer in the unseen
And I know God’s in Heaven watching over me
I make mistakes, more than one
But even with morals I know how to have fun
I have ridiculous friends, and I’ll adore them forever
Even if I’m so far away I have to send letters
I’m talkative, pretty much all the time
And my artistic chaos is somewhat sublime
I’m prone to occasionally overreact
But now that I’m aware, I’ve fixed most of that
Of politeness and smiles I’m a big fan
And when given a choice, I always stand
Arkansas is where I’m from and the Razorbacks my symbol
And my family is there, not blood but faithful
I prefer the summer over the winter
And I am one with a quick temper
I’m not gorgeous, but I’ve got Southern charm
And with my darlin’s and y’all’s, you’ll fall for me hard
All of these things are a part of me
And I can be your best friend or your worst enemy
Starbucks is the place of my dreams
And I love pizza when meat is the theme
Chocoholic doesn’t even begin to describe
My passion for cocoa of any kind
I don’t have a filter, which is a curse and a blessing
Because usually I’ll say whatever I’m thinking
I’ll hold intelligent conversation wherever I can
And all of this is just who I am

Pledge the Silver Stars

Flying thoughts and stumbling feet
Nervousness my stranger meets...
Know him from my torrid dreams

Not a when but rather who;
Turning in my skirts for you-
Kindred spirit; did we know?

Fluid laughs and clever words,
That I've met you seems absurd:
Lifetime to a lost soulmate

Then I'll never run in wind-
Breath of air breathes into him;
Falling from a foreign place

Do you speak my language, sir?
Was my heartbeat but a blur,
To a blue-eyed searching gaze?

Fireworks that don't combust;
Takes a lie to earn my trust:
Wonder in your past remarks

What it was I've done to lose
Word of love from him; I choose
Filter to disguise my shame

Ballroom has me hypnotized
Seems to weep when I decide
Curtsy to this golden prince

As he makes his way to me
My mind screaming, "You must leave,"
Yet my body won't obey-

Now as I remain in place
He reaches out to my face,
And finally I will say

"I saw you across the floor-
Was afraid to speak once more
Of how I've been drawn to you,"

Then he stands and contemplates;
Trace his features while I wait-
None will hold this moment's hand

"Nothing is as it may seem,
I have seen you in my dreams:
Now I have you in my sight;

Be prepared to stay with me
Truth has turned my fantasy-
We are pieces of a whole,"

From that moment on we twirled-
Saved each other from the world;
Eternity was a day

Unassuming Pariah

Want of a princess but not of me
South of ill-proclaimed royalty
A prince in nature, heart, and mind
Blue glass learned between the lines
Glides to the stables cape awhirl
Who knows he’s meant to be my world
All for one or rather two
A cage for the dance that ensues
I’m reluctant beckon a smile
A glance to perfection’s profile
He’s aware tears gone by
Humor of a kind is dry
Golden flax adorns his brow
And glints in my eyes when I bend to bow
I was taken from my place
And from my despair came his face
But a curse unfair welded to my being
And kept that prince from vision seeing
So slowly this torture wrings itself out
‘Till the last of my days and eternal doubt
Fixated on one but not another
By his side derived of armor
So much more I wish to be
But mannerisms distant to airy
This is my final request
Just a one to him addressed
Until he knows what I’ve been through
It remains unrequited this, “I love you”

Dark Distraction

I bend my head and watch the waves
Turmoil that forms on a desolate day
Gentle eyes that spell d-e-c-e-i-t
Used as the instrument of my defeat
The dust in the corner of my vision
Delusional, I need more of your provision
The molten brown that pulls me in with warmth
Then turns to flames and watches me burn
Twist the dagger, close your mind
Shut the door, leave me behind
It's unlocked and my sanity starts to fray
Reaching until the demon pulls me away
He doesn't have horns or an evil grin
Yet he's the object of my unrepented sin
I gasp and choke as he steals my air
Somehow I want more and reality tears
At first I fight, I'm defiant and rebel
And as I stop, I wonder when I fell
The threads of life, dull and unwound
And now to a debonair demon I'm bound

Pandora's Destruction

A harvest of the waning moon
See how the unconsecrated lick their wounds
Light is dark and hope is despair
I have found my addiction elsewhere
What is unleashed, a glorious toxin
The agony bid for at this auction
All the suffering of the world
Was left in the hands of a curious girl
Just a peek for her greedy eyes
Just a touch led to our demise
And now that the pain I feel takes form
She let the fabric of the universe be torn
I could be living in a world of perfection
Instead I'm guided by misdirection
A box so simple, a box so ordinary
Set the burden on our backs for us to carry
An ingenious design that left one to wonder
As we looked up to the lightning and thunder
Leaving destruction in its wake
Until all that we are now is fake
The girl that left us to our own
And set upon us a curse we bemoan
But among the others was a tool to cope
"What is this?", you may ask-oh nothing but hope

Owls

A sound that I have come to love
Reaches my ears through night
And when the darkness threatens
He protects and shows me light
Clouds and stars swirl in his eyes
Do tell occasional thunder
And when his reassurances I hold
I think of him in wonder
A smile and soft laughter
Are things his mouth does store
And when his mirth does ring out
They beg me solicit more
Nothing else matters so much
And I ache throughout the day
To hear the murmur of his deep voice
As he whispers, "hey"
Just a simple greeting
Yet one that make me smile
And brings me his touch on sheltered wind
Seperate an inch or a mile
Just an hour maybe more
Of secrets and thoughts aglow
Yet for all his blinding brilliance
I am surprised he does not know

Cast

Feel the burning of the lights
Let your heart race for the millionth time
That rush of unseen adrenaline
Wondering when the show will begin
Velvet curtains and gilded ropes
This could make or break your hopes
Will this night leave you in chains
Or will there be something for you to gain
As the lights beat down on you now
You start to sweat before the final bow
You wonder if they notice the flaws in your performance
Hear the acceptance or despair of the audience
Then you make your way to the stage
The world is your oyster or the world is your cage
Hello, judgment, you don't scare me
And I'd never do anything differently
Then at the end when applause fills my ears
It has appeased and dulled my fears
I endured the desperation of the fight
Now there's one question left, is this a play, or real life?

White Noise

If I talk to you, don’t say one word-
Speak to me forever
If I text you, don’t give me a symbol-
Send me every letter
If I write to you, don’t pen me a sentence-
Compile every word that’s clever
If I sing to you, don’t hum a melody-
Compose an endless measure
