The Cage

"The Cage" by T.C. Fulton

How do you keep me here..doesn't make sense..
          I sit and I stare..like a crow on a fence
There's nothing with substance and everything moves..
           Nothing to gain..nothing to lose..
        In this cage..
                              I saw a rainbow..stolen today..
                       Creepy freaks..took it away..
I saw a baby torn to shreds..
While the rest of the world slept in their beds..
I saw the people faking a smile..
Entertaining themselves..as they all looked away..
I saw it all..from the back of my head..
                        I slowly sat..still..
                      In my cage..feeling dead..
I saw a forest ..filled with new life..
Slashed and then burned..then forgotten ..each night..
I saw a Nuclear power plant spill..
Killing the fish and creatures and whales..
              Still..in my cage..

I watched as the people..tried not to smile..
They drank and they danced..for awhile..
I saw the children..die in the cars...
Waiting for mommies and daddies for hours..
I saw the world..growing darker in shades..
Everyone wanting to see in grey's ..
                   Still..in my cage..
      Looking away..looking inside..
Blinded by jealousy, hate, and pride..
Where are the innocent pure and the true..
I in my cage..am looking for you...
No one..to save..do I see in the land..
           Only the wicked..stand..
The sand in the hourglass falls by the second..
Judgement will come..when the moment is right..
Then darkness will take the light..
No one here will ever be free..
They will all be trapped..just like me..
            In my cage.

The Sword

"The Sword"
  What words..have I to say..
        That could perhaps betray..
My soul..in light of truth..
  Described in forms of youth..
Hidden in the memory of a child..
   The wild beast raged..at me..
        A dream..perhaps..a dragon..
So this my battle.. then occurred to me..
   How could I..a little one..
      Be great..be wise..be true..
         So then defeat the dragon..
Much less..the man of a golden shield..
      Hiding behind his defense..
I walked up with no hesitation..
Plunged my dagger in the heart of the beast..
No threat was found in me...
                A child with no..defense..

The look upon the dragon's face..
Could be reflected in the eyes of me..
Perhaps..I should have feared you child..
Then I looked upon the fallen knight..
The melted shield was at his side..
                   I would find a waterfall..
          So set..the prisoner free..
Bury his heart beneath the river..
The dragon..no longer lived in me..
The reflection of himself..in my eyes..he saw..
            Just a boy..nothing more..
The river dances in the sky..
       The ocean waves goodbye..
I was an actor on the stage..
       The scene remained unchanged..
I couldn't wait for you to see..
             I walked away..it wasn't me..
I fondly found a hat to wear..
Then I noticed..it never rains here..
When the rain began to fall..I cried..
            Simply..a game we play..we lie..
     Broken heart..in my hand..I reflected..
        This dragon..was my friend..
             He could have killed me..
So I guess..he didn't know my will was best..
Reading my thoughts..I knew he could..
Confused to know..that I was good..
Why would I be so surprised..
When I watched my master die..
A little tear..rolled down my cheek..
You my friend..are the worst of me..
These I whispered in his ear..
As I pushed the dagger deep..
     I am afraid..of only sleep..
Why would you place your fear on me..
Shrieked the dragon..as he fell..with a fading smile..
            I never remember..what I dream..
 I replied..as I laughed..with childish glee..
The last of my kind..am I ..said he..
       The only..of my kind..am I..said me..

Maker's Hands

"Maker's Hand's"

  Painted in shades..of glorious..grey's...
A face that hangs..with dark shadows..
Hands that look weathered ..furrowed and strong..
Only the wind..on a mountain belongs
Shoulder's of waves.. cast over graves..
Centuries of king's.. buried in caves..
Only the wind..sings in perfect song..
 Rising with thunder..clouds darken under..
Angry that I in my castle..would hide..
          Strong as I am..face of a man..
   Wondering..how this could be..
         Always a guest..at a banquet of stars..
    Assuming that I belong..
Fainting..for shame..that my fear is to blame..
  Afraid of the Maker's hands...
        My castle...a shell..my body a hell...
     Composed of my own demise..
   I fall to my knees...and plead..that he see's
     through my bravest..wasted disguise..
For another day ends..as a child..I must rest..
       A thousand years..in the shadows..
The moment is gone..The storm traveled on..
          And Heaven...awakens my soul..
      The sun..shines..on me..
The ocean is still..and I am set free..
From the sins..that had haunted my dreams..
   Like a bird..from a cage..I escape in a rage..
         And I fly as high..as I can..
   Far..Far below..is a slave..in his sleep..
        How I hope..he's set free..
      In the morning. T.C. Fulton

Heart of Truth

"Heart Of Truth"
                       by T.C. Fulton

When all my fears..are closing in..
There is a place of hope..I find..
 When I can barely stand..alone..
        There is a great..redeemer
 At my side..
          When I feel hopeless..
    When I'm ashamed..
 When everything I see..looks broken..
There is a great Creator...deep inside..

       This timeless God..
This fearless Lord..This master of the universe..
   He sees my trembling..soul...
     When I can barely breathe..
From all of the darkness and despair..
I look up to my Savior..and he's always there..

I try so hard..to stand alone..
   But my weakness..makes me fall..
I take my broken heart..and lay it there..
At the foot of his waiting cross..

I'm tired of falling..at the hands of an enemy..
I know my king..deserves a warrior strong and true..
I take my sword..and bow before my God..
This time..I'll fight..and die for you!

I Promise

"I Promise" by T.C. Fulton

The light in your eyes..I will never forget..
            I promise..
The tears that you've shed..when your heart was broken...
The darkest nights..when your dreams.. were shattered..
The weakness..that you felt..when all your hope..dissolved like smoke..
The moment you looked around and so no one..
      The coldness of being alone..
        The storm..thundering on..
When you grasped for something real..and fell
     When the world you knew..disappeared
           When time stood still..
The day when your innocence was stolen..
You ...lost ..alone..broken..faced a world..where no one noticed.

          This is why you climb..higher..
   This is how you run..faster..
         This is when you dance..slower...
This is where you fly..with nothing holding you down..
The time when the world..becomes easy to see..
        Understanding..the chaos..as you look around..

I will never forget..the light in your eyes..I promise.

The Prayer

"The Prayer" by T.C. Fulton

  Dear Lord,
Let our hearts be pure..so that we may see you..
Let our eyes..search for the lost and lonely..
Let our hands..heal the sick and guide the blind..
Let our feet..walk in the path of righteousness..
Let our thoughts rest in your will..
Let our fears be only of failing you..
Let our hopes be only of pleasing you..
Let the American dream be not about us..
Let the American dream be about you...
