Few Steps Behind

Your slipping away, I thought you would one day
But didn’t think the day would come so soon
If you jog through the memories in your mind,
You’d see, I was just a few steps behind.

Seems like time flew and we didn’t realise
That we should have held on tight,
Our love now appears like a fruit without its rind
Guess I was late, a few steps behind.

Now this distance seems so endless
We cant bridge it, try as much as we may,
Loose leaves of a book, without a bind
I see someone else waiting, a few steps behind.

Shakes me to the core of my being, seeing where we are
What started so glorious, ending so miserable.
While everything was falling to pieces, I was blind
Now I’m left, a few steps behind.

The air is filled with animosity,
Two strangers in the dark,
As I see the papers you have signed
I think love left us, a few steps behind!!!

Mona Lisa

She sits there, smiling at me from the frame,
I’m in love with the face, still cant forget the name.
Those deep eyes, those curvy lips,
The bright red paint on her fingertips.

I gaze and gaze, until it turns into a stare,
I cant figure out, why am still standing there.
She looks back at me, deep into my eyes,
And it looks like her tears, have just begun to dry.

“Can I reach out and hold your hand” , I think,
“Your sadness is drowning you, making you sink”.
She just smiles back as she always does,
And my mind is spinning, my head abuzz.

I walk away, but turn back to look,
At the pages of love lost, in that rugged book.
Your eyes seem to follow me, wherever I go,
I have your memories, but I have you no more.

So go on, make me wallow in sorrow,
Make me dread today, waking up tomorrow.
I cant forget the sea, back there in Ibiza,
Whose waves took away my life, my love, my Mona Lisa.

I Think About You

I woke up this morning and snoozed the clock,
Rewound the dream, that seemed so true.
And it came as no surprise,
Yes, I dreamt about you.

Your laughter still rang in my ears
The look in your eyes, spoke of a life anew.
That was the first time today,
I thought about you.

Stood in front of the mirror and watched myself awaken,
Thought about the day ahead and the things to do
I saw a smile play upon my lips
I realized, I was thinking about you.

Reached office and sat down to work
Switched on my mind and laptop too
It took a while for me to focus,
I had to stop, thinking about you.

Wrapped up my day and lit a smoke,
Though tired, the dream came flashing through.
And as I trudged back to my room
I did nothing else, but think about you.

Now as I sit to write about today,
I look outside and see the sky turn to midnight blue,
There’s no doubt whats running in my mind,
You guessed it right, I am thinking about you!!!

Knife

The darkness of this night is a reflection of what has been,
The lives we lived, times we’d seen.
This darkness runs a chill, up my spine,
I feel abandoned, even by those, I thought were mine.

The unearthly hours seem to be untamed,
I thought today would be different, but it all feels the same.
This city, the lane I live in, reeks of you,
Nights spent under that lamppost, hoping my heart would get its due.

The benches are empty, the swing motionless,
All still like my thoughts, mindless
There’s some feeling trying to overcome me,
But there’s also this numbing pain, that’s helping me be.

The glisten of the raindrops on the unpainted rods of the bus stand,
Puddles form shapes, almost like on the wave of a magic wand.
I walk back to the roof, that’s mine out of charity,
The whitewash’s faded, like a fake symbol of purity.

I see a silhouette, against the compound wall,
Gaining in stature, growing tall,
I feel the chill run up my spine,
Didn’t know the knife you’d use, would ever be mine!!

Its That Time of the Day

Its evening again and I look up and see,
The sun going to rest, clouds flowing free.
The traffic darting, the screaching horns,
The roses going to sleep, comforted by their thorns.

The darkness comes, and neon lights shine,
It lights up the sky, and the moon looks divine.
Glittering stars spread over the sky,
While the boy at the corner is cunningly telling the girl, a lie.

I walk along the path that I know by-heart,
People hustling by, a man selling shapeless tarts.
I look around to find anyone I know,
Oh Lord! The loneliness again begins to grow.

I gather some pace and walk aimlessly ahead,
To an empty home with an empty bed.
Grant me deliverance God, I fervently pray,
Am sinking Lord, its that time of the day!
