Song of the Seamen and Their Ship Called Mary Rose

Mary Rose, the mighty sailing sea vessel glided majestically across the waves
She had robustly and bravely sailed the briny waves for many a night and day
With the ocean's heaving gusting squalls blowing off proud stern and mast
Sailing victorious and proud - her billowing white sails were cast
The calm, liquid waters of the sea flowed quietly purple for now-
Unaware of the coming storm that would beat furious against her bow

Her alabaster sails whipped violent and furious in the oncoming storm
Impending doom was yelling its cries while the seamen went unwarned
Down below, inside their cabins the seamen peacefully slept
Wrapped in the secure watch that their gallant captain kept
The oceans black, boiling waves beat savage against starboard and port
As Captain Noe standing fearless - at first quake, did not the storm report

The old wooden beams of the Mary Rose began to restlessly moan and creak
While the blackened roaring, rolling waves beat furious against her feet
Her alabaster sails rose proud- beating mighty against wailing squalls and gusts
While deep inside the bow in bunks, the sleeping seamen thrust

Suddenly...they heard the captain's distraught voice cry out
When the seamen heard his voice -they heard fear without doubt
“Awake, all of ye’ ”, Captain Noe forcefully roared
“Alive! Awake… all ye’ seaman come quickly up on board”!

The savage spirit of the sea reigned fierce with rage and fear
While the brave captain fought - loyal seaman brought up the rear
They courageously fought together - not silenced by the eye of death
As the sea raged violently against them with its brutal, menacing breath

To save their mighty Mary Rose, they’d dip their very souls in blood
Leaving themselves merciless against this drunken, mighty flood
With plank and bow standing fierce between them and their fate
The raging ocean’s fierce, blackened waves - the sea they could not hate

The morning brought the warming sun which rose broad above the waves
The winds had tamed their violent voice against captain and seaman brave
With unshakable courage and seaman’s wit not once were spirits broke
Each cheered his mate and captain strong as they fought with steady stroke
Their peril fought in days of danger and night filled with pain
Their manly courage did not wane - their fight was not in vain
For all the courageous seamen and their brave Captain Noe
Joined together in hand and spirit to save...their proud Mary Rose

Ten Cents a Dance

She worked at a boozy ballroom, dancing for 10 cents a dance
Barely enough to eat and pay her rent in a rundown seedy hotel
So young, so alone raised by no one but herself
Oh, she had parents, but they didn’t see her, didn’t know or love her
She married the first guy who came along just to get away from home
But he abused her - used her, then left her all alone

Twenty two years old-
Alone, with two small children to care for
She needed someone…
Someone who would hold her - touch her tenderly with his heart
Someone to love her- love her children
Her brown eyes wishing, hoping - looking for love in stranger’s faces
Dancing for 10 cents a dance under shimmering ballroom lights
Swaying to and fro through dreamed filled hopes
With her closed eyes, she pretended as she danced
Fantasizing that he might be the one to save her- love her

When the music started she was in another world
Wishing he’d sweep her off her feet, take her away
So she could live like a lady and die like a flowering rose when her last petals fell
In the arms of one she imagines will be hers once and for all
To whisper velvet words of comfort as their feet grazed the floor
Under the melodic grace of the violins she pretended…
Hoping to find her hero, someone who’ll give her a chance
Just...for 10 cents a dance

I Shall Wait For You My Beloved

I shall wait for you to come my beloved
For you are my white star of twilight
The moon in the sky’s far end

I shall rise up with thee
Lie down with thee
For in my dreams thou art always with me

Oh Great Spirit
When our time has come
Join us together as one in the wilderness of your sacred home
When you look upon us give us your peace and refreshing sleep

For you and I my beloved, are two halves joined together
Each others distant shore
The left and right wings of the bird
Two halves of a seashell

We are apart, yet connected by a greater love
I shall wait for you my love

The sun and moon bless the union of our spirits
Designed by our Creator for life’s endless journey
Joined like a tree to earth, a cloud in the sky
You are a part of me, as I am of you
Bonded by the Great White Spirit

You are my love, my heart’s best friend
Our love will never cease, never end
I know it is thou who moves within my heart
Now and forever my beloved - I shall wait for you to come
Ayor’ Anosh’ ni’ my love

Like a Broken Teacup

Sitting on the shelf like a broken teacup
I go on despite these difficult moments
I run into myself with Irish green eyes and permanent tear stained cheeks
I've endured the immensity of agony
I’ve turned down all those so-called hot lovers sulking in this harsh yellow land
I wrestle with the ongoing struggles of this evil world

No…nobody can go backwards
You see, you and I were never meant to be
So...don't tell me your hurt is my fault
I’ve assessed these holes in my life-have you assessed yours?

It was a lifetime ago…forever gone in all that I was
In a curious way I’ve known the debris of myself ...
I’m more damaged than I care to admit

Here I am…pathetically sitting in the rubble of where my heart lives
A thin-skinned loner- a re-cycled me of who I used to be
I can't waver yet again, to take another chance at love
I've known too much time away from it all
So evident in the moment of my blinding conscience
Pondering the un-gentleness of things
That should have been beautiful...but were not

And so, I pick up the pieces of my broken soul
From a broken love that was never meant to be
I'm in for a new change of lifestyle - a new change of heart
A release of all those emotions that were tearing me down
The old life I knew, I threw away with the teacup
I got a new life, a new cup, and I'm forgetting you and the past

My Endless Longing -A Mother's Love

**~**

My heart is fierce in its longing for you
With thoughts that mimic flitting butterflies
Like stars chasing the moon in the black velvet night
And every time I close my eyes…
It is you whose face I see
I ache from deep within my soul
Wanting to feel my fingertips trace the soft texture of your skin
Run my fingers through your soft, chocolate hair
Longing to see your smile - beaming radiant like diamonds in the sky

Lying in my bed at night the fingers of darknes touch my skin
The moon quietly tiptoes through my window
As silent witness to my bleeding heart
Closing my eyes…
Brings your image closer to my mind
For you... are a violet glistening with dew to my longing heart
An angel - in a spider's land
Where they deceitfully weave their web of lies
Unwillingly... turning your heart against me...
The mother who loves you so

I drift away into a restless sleep dreaming of you- my girl
As the early morning sun creeps through my window
I awake... with a heart that breaks all over again
I am a prisoner held captive by my love for you
My precious, little porcelain girl

My love for you will never end
I pray for strength to see us through
For someday we will win this battle
And the love we share...
Will lovingly come shining through

                                                             **~~**

A Bird With a Broken Wing

*~*

I sit -looking at the river gracefully bending
Flowing smoothly over moss covered rocks and stones
Measuring in endless time -my life
   My loves, my losses
Posing my thoughts with unspoken words
   Just me and the river...
Sitting all alone

I cry- my whetted, salty tears
Like the river weeping her warm liquid waves
Showering the earth with her promising shades of life
Breathing her liquid grace over all the lands she saves?
   Yet…
I could not save us

My hungry heart hides my tears as I breathe in your image
Calling your name -whispering our story
And all the tender moments
   Of our once remembered glory

With my thoughts softly weaving their dreams
I trace the memories of the sweetest fruit from the vine
Painting vivid pictures of warm candlelight and roses
That turned into a sad, bitter tasting wine

My grieving spirit hides the breeze that softly blows
Whispering in its low, hushed voice
My sad, lonely story…
That only I and the river know
Hiding my shattered heart
    A bird...
With a broken wing

                                                                *~*

A Homeless Man Named Sam- Part 1

Hebrews 13:2 "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."

"Authors Note: This is a true short story/poem of my strange encounter with a dear, homeless man named Sam.
This happened in 1992, when I was living in Grass Valley, Ca. These are not actual pictures of Sam, but they remind me of him in so many ways. We should care about people, all people, homeless or otherwisez'
 ***Dedicated to Sam*** ____________________________________________________
Part 1
He stood alone on the corner on a local, busy, traveled street
In ragged clothes holding a sign standing in the cold or heat
“Anything Helps,God Bless", it says, on his small cardboard sign
"I’d appreciate whatever you give, even a nickel or a dime".
Most all the drivers pass him by, seeming not to care
But every time I see him, I feel such a need to share

I’ve seen him at other places in that same part of town
A place where the homeless go; those that are lonely and down
There’s a shelter down the street, a couple of blocks away
It’s called “Open Door Mission” a place where the homeless stay

I want to cry when I see this place, full of children, women and men
Driving down by the Mission down on Nicholas Street, I see them picking through dirty, garbage bins
Glad when they find a piece of clothing, or joyful for some aluminum cans

Some people think it’s shameful when others are down, or in such paltry jams
I think to myself, “How can they feel this way, it could be them or me”!
“Open your eyes”, I want to yell out loud, “Isn’t this the land of the free”?
How far have we come from this ideal, 'Land of the Free, Home of the Brave”?
On our holiday, the Fourth of July, does that saying mean the same today?

A Homeless Man Named Sam -Part 4

Cont. from Part 3

Three months now, no trace of Sam has ever been found to this very day
I think he was an angel from above, I don’t know what else to say
I hope he’s at home in Heaven with God and his beautiful wife
I believe he was sent to teach me a lesson and to share with me his life

If you see someone in need don’t just walk on by, please don’t treat them so unfair
When you pass them- stop - give them a smile, send them a heartfelt prayer
Try to help someone else, the best that you possibly can
Always try to remember... this isn't where their homeless life began
_______________________________________________________________

I felt very privileged to have met this kind man
But so saddened by his heartfelt story
Was he an angel sent from God?
 I don't know, I only know I met a very, special man...
     a man named Sam

The Witches' Dance On Crowborough Road

Her hair- black as a raven’s breast
Eyes glowing through orbs of green
She dances covertly in the dark of night
Where not another soul is seen
Warbling a haunting, enchanted tune

Chanting, dancing around the fire
Under light of a full October moon
Questions lie on lips to desire
   Is she malevolent or benevolent?
Never a soul has been so bold
To tell their story... too hesitant!

She possesses many powers, many tales
Lifting her hands as she chants
Red mist swirling, twirling behind her veil
Eyes brightening in orbs of green
Chilly mist crawling over her skin
Under an oak tree dancing unseen

Cloaked under her crimson, blood red shawl
   Strange sounds and names uttered
As she boldly dances, chanting out her call
   Wild, fierce, bold and free
Like a chameleon she changes
In red blazing firelight so unseen

Suddenly, the ground shakes with deafening roar
Bursts of electric blue, beam above her head
Voltaic forces join, shaking earth’s woodland floor
Down the path, robes flowing, blowing in the breeze
Many forces about, electrifying ground and air
Gathering together, chanting, dancing under the trees
Many denizens of this land astound
Warlocks and witches cast their magic here
As their caldron bubbles over ground

They come together from lake and fen
Here they meet from darkened lair
Ferny dells and rocky dens
“Make room”, they call in pitch black night
Bringing many potions to mix them well
Taking wool, wand, bone and eyes, what a fright!
Casting out and about their magic spell

Mixing tooth and tongue and nail
Under fire, water, earth and dung
They mix the caldron, hold the flail
Hemlock, henbane, adder’s blood
Chanting out, “By thee we bound upon this road"!
Suddenly the spell’s been cannily brewed
Using blood, eyes and tongue of a toad

As quickly as they came, they hastily leave
Departing thru forest dark, entering private glades
Leaving once again, only to return
On another chilly October full moon eve
"Merry Meet", they all say, as they make haste to flee
Then they'll secretly meet once again...
Where they’ll chant and mix another magic urn

                                                             #_#

Texas Country Cowboy Creation

It’s a real Texas situation
Wow, you’re one heck of a creation
I dig your hat, I love your boots
Ya’ got those bang up, country roots
When you’re strummin’ on your guitar
you’re one, red hot, country star

Ooh, wearing those, sexy, tight fittin’ jeans
you’re one lean, mean country machine
Ya got me feelin’ like a damn fool
like a silly girl in high school
Boy, I'd sure like to share your company
so, get off that bull, come ride with me

Yeah, it’s a Texas situation
cuz’ you’re one heck of a creation
I spent my money on this here hat
Tell me now, whadda’ ya’ think of that?

Come on now, I’d like to be your pretty baby
we’ll drive each other country crazy
Yeah, it’s one heck of a situation
cuz’ you’re one, red hot, Texas, born creation
