Cherie Durbin Poem
"There's a Sport for Everyone" is a children's song, sung to the tune of "The Farmer
in the Dell".
There's a sport for everyone,
There's a sport for everyone-
Baseball, soccer, basketball;
Sports are so much fun!
Bonus activity: Ask each child which sports they participate in or would like to try.
Explain that there is a sport for everyone, no matter your physical capabilities. Some
sports like English horseback riding may require more mental skills than physical. Tell
children, "If you try a variety of sports, you're sure to find one you love!"

Cherie Durbin Poem
I am bored with math.
Two plus two always equals four.
Why can't it equal an ice cream cone
Or a trip to the candy store?
Four plus four always equals eight-
Never a video game,
Or a Disneyland vacation.
No, the answer's e'er the same!
One times one always equals one.
Where's the fun in that?
I'd love to see the answer be
A brand new baseball bat!

"It is Sunny" is a children's song, sung to the tune of "Frere Jacques".
It is sunny,
It is sunny.
I am glad!
I am glad!
Lookin' at those gray skies,
Lookin' at those gray skies,
Made me sad,
Made me sad.
Bonus activity: Ask children how they feel weather affects their moods. Do they feel
cheerful on sunny days? Sad on rainy days? How do they feel when it's snowing?

"Santa's Helper" is a children's song, sung to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot".
I am Santa's helper;
Look at me,
Wrapping presents
Merrily.
Soon it will be Christmas...
Don't you know?
Gotta' get Santa's sleigh
Ready to go!
Author's Note: "Santa's Helper" makes a good activity song for children:
I am Santa's helper;
Look at me, (child points to himself)
Wrapping presents (child mimics wrapping gifts)
Merrily. (child smiles)
Soon it will be Christmas... (child points to calendar or clock)
Don't you know? (child holds hands out to sides and shrugs shoulders)

"The Ostrich" is a children's song, sung to the tune of "The Battle Hymn of the
Republic".
Oh, did you know the ostrich is the world's largest bird?
It lives in Africa in a small group that's called a herd.
An ostrich cannot fly; instead it gallops on two legs.
A female ostrich lays enormous eggs!
Bonus activity: Print out an ostrich coloring sheet for each child (you can find one at
raisingourkids.com) and have him or her color it. Explain to children that ostriches
are 7-9 feet tall and tower over the average human being!

Witches have wacky tastebuds, as this poem will tell!
Cup of eel eyes
Cup of toad tongue
Cup of snakeskin, too.
Boil twenty minutes-
Recipe for Witch's Stew!
Bonus activity: Have children write their own recipe for "Witch's Stew" (rhyming recipe not necessary!). Tell them a good "Witch's Stew" should include 3-5 ghoulish ingredients. You may also have children draw (or draw and label) their ingredients and/or draw a picture of a bowl or a pot of the stew, with all of the ghoulish ingredients they chose swimming around the top.

They can swim and climb trees, too.
They're black and white and furry
And they love to eat bamboo!
Bonus activity: Print out a giant panda coloring sheet for each child (there are a few
to choose from on animalstown.com) and have him or her color it.
