Ode To the Flu

Conquering alien
amidst human flu outbreak
fled earth contagious

Conquering alien
ooze influenza sickness
left earth alone

Back To Work

First day back to the job
man, this coworker was a big slob.
Store looks like a big wreck
so push the limits, what the heck.

Big orders to fill real quick
dirty store makes me feel very sick.
Dishes to wash, tables to clean
make it shine with a real bright sheen.

Working up a big old' sweat
not nearly done, not by half yet.
Water sloshes on the floor
dishes, dishes what a huge chore.

Suddenly my feet slip, I fall
can't even catch a hand to the wall.
Head hitting on a metal table
try to rise,yet simply unable.

This I promise is true story
down I went without any glory.
With cartoon birds swirling above me
laughter bubbles, birdy tunes I do see.

Head begins to really pound now
heave ho up, and off the floor somehow.
World tilts with a sickening speed
back to work, I feel the need.

So this was the first day back
with a watery floor sliding attack.
I saw colors and shapes too
pink polka dots with a purple hue.

Sometimes

Days blur together endlessly
one not different from another.
Sameness robs us of joy and fun
heat and sound now do us smother.

Yet the break we watch for comes
happy surprises break the heat wave.
Children heading back to school now
time can now be cherished and saved.

Black and orange decorations seen
Jack-o-lanterns made from pumpkins.
Candy, shelves and shelves from to choose
to give the ghosts, queens, and phantoms.

Care not what others say
this holiday is for yummy fun.
Watch the childrens face light up
as from house to house they run.
