Ruby

A ruby is a gemstone,
Gemstones are cut; not a gentle process,
They are polished; a lot of friction,
Then buffed; gentler, but creates heat,
Then they sparkle and shine.
They are put on display; esteemed as precious.
A ruby is multifaceted,
The many facets bending the light,
Creating a shimmering sparkle,
That dances with the light,
And the movement of the gem.
Too few facets and there is less bending of the light,
Too many facets and the gem is unable to bend the light properly,
There is a balance.
A ruby is a strong gemstone,
Not as strong as a diamond,
But stronger than many other gems.
I wonder what the ruby really feels while it is being processed?
I wonder what the ruby feels when it is viewed as a thing of beauty and value?
I am a multifaceted Ruby.
One day I shall be a finished product,
Of some beauty and value.

Mime

Face of paint,
An awkward stance,
Passion and beauty,
     ...audience entranced.

Drama unseen,
Except by the heart,
Imagined props,
     ...a true work of art.

Accurate 'telling',
Of some known truth,
Not one word spoken,
     ...passion in youth.

Antics in comedy,
Mingled with trauma,
As a heart opens up,
     ...unfolding drama.

Seriousness of life,
Presenting a touch,
To youthful hearts,
     ...life is such.

A perfect balance,
To capture the soul,
Of everyone present,
     ...the ultimate goal.

True communication,
Of heart and mind,
A story told in silence,
     ...the beauty of mime.
