A Game Like His

With the darkness comes his touch,
and the cool wind of desire,
Oh, he knows, such wonderous ways
to make flesh burn like fire.

So able and so wise is he
as he plays my very soul,
Never ceasing, never ending,
always in control.

And when he's spent, he moves away,
emptiness fills his place,
Who would think a game like his
could sustain the human race?

The Pearl

The pearl, so white and beautiful,
at rest beneath the sea,
stands still as time passes by,
effecting only you and me.

For with each day,
each month, each year,
I long to stop this endless fear
the fear of growing old and gray,
of life quickly passing by my way.

The pearl is locked inside its shell,
living eternally, safe and well,
while I am doomed a painful death,
the pearl lives on, without a threat.

After

After the clock struck,
the sound of the bed creaking
carried through the hard, wooden floors
of Miss Machem's old boarding house.
I took just a second to glance in the mirror,
surprising myself,
seeing my mother staring back at me,
hoping that life would be different,
realizing that life was the same,
no matter,
before, during, or after,
love remains a constant.

I Only Have a Photograph

I only have a photograph
to gaze at in the night
but with it comes sweet memories
of when you held me tight.

I only have this ring I wear,
a gold piece on my finger,
but when I twirl it round and round,
thoughts of you still linger.

When I close my eyes
I see your face,
I feel your touch,
your warm embrace,
I feel your lips
upon my own,
for you were my king
and my heart
was your thrown.

If I Only Had a Moment

If I only had a moment,
I would tell you that I love you.
If I only had an hour,
I would show you how I feel,
but, alas, I have a life time,
to love you from afar,
so you may never get to know
how special you really are.
