New Day

The voice of the night
Shrouded in hushed tones
Shadows swift and unendingly changing shape
As though on an uneasy but protracted break.

The land in silence is laid
Dancing and merrymaking having gone to rest
Rumination at its peak, roaming at its ebb
Beings crouching behind closed bars.

Grimly hidden from sight is the laughing sun
Left only with the bold stare of the moon
The stars scantily twinkling on and off
Every sound magnified as though a boom.

We hear again, early on the morrow
The proud piercing strill of the strutting cock
Giving life to silence and shadows alike
Awaking great but otherwise sleeping giants.

We were dead but now we rise
With strength recovered and renewed
Bustling energies ready to face the new day's challenges
Thanking God for a safe passage through the tunnel.

Maama

Kneading flour on a threshing stone
Working vigorously with failing strength
Your face is now wrinkled
Sweet Mother.

Praying silently with unmoving lips
Breakingly uttering audible sighs
Pondering on what needed to be done next
Oh sweet Mother.

Once so full of vigour and instructions
Though short, an imposing figure
Scolding severely with a fast tongue
Sweet Mother.

Mother, the years have caught up on you now
How then can I forget the memory of times~
Spent in spending yourself selflessly
Oh sweet Mother.

Maama, can I ever cease remembering
Your suffering, labour, toil and love for me
I am so very proud of you and always will
Mine Mother!

Is She the One?

I never thought a day would come
When I would sit again and think about a lady
Having been battered and shattered by love
I thought myself incapable again.

Devoid of any emotion of love, I mix with people everyday
Having become hardened inside, I thought myself untouchable
I thought I was then living in paradise
A paradise made up of myself and my feelings.

I was broken inside ~ just ordinary
Feelings of unworthiness and boredom so acute
Until the moment I met you and behold
You proved I had just been waiting all along.

You set me out of my personal prison
You released the floodgate of my emotions again
You touched the core of my heart
Yes I am up, alive and living again!

I'm appealing to friends and foes alike
Is she really the one?
That will make my life worth living
Making me feel so fulfilled and wanted.
