Gerry Cunningham Poem
4 x 4
There you are driving ahead of me again
five foot five in your four by four.
Peroxide blonde transporter of empty baby seats
Mobile phone to your ear transmitting
More nonsensical extrusion from a shallow mind
Roundabout ahead, wrong lane, who cares!
Let’s double park at the corner shop
Check the rearview mirror, yes makeup ok
Don’t forget the hazard lights of excused abandonment
Like a disco roadblock

Gerry Cunningham Poem
Summer
Racing down my window
Like friends through a forest
I gamble on the outcome
Of this meandering marathon
Raindrop X wins by a drop
River swollen with angry torrent
Sweeping all in its path
Out at sea the salmon tastes it
The need to move forward
And still it pours
Flooding in the News
As bad as recorded inches say
Houses built on flood plain
Make for good copy
Summer is over for another year

Gerry Cunningham Poem
NO SMOKING, NO PARKING, WASH HANDS
“Would you like a wee cuppa tea?”
SWOLLEN GLANDS, PUSH, PROD
“And sure what about a wee biscuit?”
BIOPSY THIS ONE, SURGICAL STRIKE
“Isn’t it a terrible day?”
CELLS IRREGULAR, INFORMATION SAME
“Have you ever seen a Summer like it?”
NEEDLES IN, BLOOD OUT, CLOT AND COUNT
“That’s a nice jumper, where did you get it?”
STERN FACES, SAT DOWN, CHEMO CALLED
“See you next Wednesday Gerry”

Gerry Cunningham Poem
Summer Belly
First hot day of early Summer brings it out.
The snow white folds of fast food residue,
Overflowing the ill advised shorts.
It has to go somewhere so out it comes
Wobbling in the season’s first rays.
An avalanche of abdominal extra.
Last year’s top won’t fit this year’s model
But it’s fun to watch all the same
