My Hero Died Today

It was very early in the morn
The news not good, in depths forlorn

Memories of you dressed in your army best
A hero to me a father better than all the rest

Mom would play the piano and sing Daddy's little girl
I cried each time I heard it, my emotions in a whirl

No hero can be perfect the war had taken its toll
Alcohol had become an addiction to fill that empty hole

It stole so much time from us all, the years they flew right bye
A VA doctors test messed you up then they sent you home to die

Another hospital then another again you went to die in ICU
More than three weeks on life support with IV's arms all black and blue

I was glad to get to see you, have the chance to hold your hand
My own still much smaller than my hero's, who's life had not seemed grand

I wish I could have been there today before you passed away,I had a few words I really
wanted to say
I love you dad and always will and happy fathers day

This poem is dedicated to my father who passed early this morning fathers day 2010

You

You

You are the tranquility in my heart, my summers rain

You brought back hope and the warmth of love where desolation did reign

You looked inside my mind to find the real me

quite unlike others whom only see outwardly

You've never tried to change me, your always so gentle and kind

to not see the rare gem that is you, I'd surely have to be blind

Pen and Pad

All those many years ago writing with you by my side
Glancing at the river while our pen's slowly glide

A writers joy and artists inspiration flowed there
With endless miles of drifting water and warm breezes touching our hair

I often wonder if you still remember those happy days we had
Two artists, two poets happily writing, in hand pen and pad

Humanity

With all of humanity becoming withered and worn

Souls empty, loveless, tattered and torn

Much greed and hatred now seems to reign

Kindness and consideration only they feign

A light still flickers albeit small

Some see its radiance and heed its call

Teaching others these skill in which they lack

To overcome fear and hatred to bring the peace back

Kindness is mistaken for weakness to a many today

But, it shall be the strength for the world one day

My Favorite Memory

My dearest friend I miss you so
Often times remembering how you helped others grow

Always cheering others up when they were down
Offering a hug when ever you saw a frown

I still hear your laughter within my mind
I see your smile in any happiness I may find

I count myself lucky to have had a friend so true
My favorite memory is always when I think of you

Dedicated to Alan I will miss you always
