Mischief Managed

You were anticipating shallow water
Instead you fell in the deep end
This water’s a shade of blue you haven’t seen before
You forgot that curiosity killed the cat
Explains why you would you go and do a thing like that
Unfortunately there’s a price to pay for waking her
When you had no intention of staying up late
You just delivered more rain to the flood gate
Cos what’s a little more chaos
It’s not your mess to clean up though
So don’t mention it this time
Be grateful for the silent goodbye
The story can’t be told the same as it was lived
And realistically what else can she do but forgive
A well rehearsed smile hiding shame
Once again only herself to blame
It’s all love, she says
Licking her wounds and counting the damage
Another day another mischief managed

Win-Win

Those were some big boots to fill and they came at me running
But danced around still because you knew I’d forgive
I say it is what it is
Limitless love to give
A primitive way to live
Cross my T’s dot my I’s
Cross my heart and hope to die
Right my wrongs but somehow wrong the rights too
I hear they call it balance
Can’t have too much of a good thing
So I became a little bit bad
And now it feels like a win win

Hallways

Why must there always be a sacrifice souring the taste of something nice
Just a moment on the lips but a lifetime on the back shelf of the mind
Taking up space you can’t afford
You can barely pay your rent
Not enough to need to forgive but too much to forget
Maybe you are too kind
Wandering the hallways politely knocking on every door you find
Quietly praying that what lies behind is something you can finally put behind
The quest for answers usually begins with more questions
But the beginning has long since passed us
And let’s admit that we’re really tired
And though you tried you know you can’t fix open wounds with plasters
So leave it open it’ll heal faster
Don’t romanticise the scars
But remember to bathe in the beauty of the chaos
Because you are on your way to the stars
Even if your estimate was way off
