Three Sons

Three Sons

Three fathers each to his son,
Said, “ Come lad for you life's begun,
In this land it's your fate , that claims your estate.
Not your name nor whence that you come.”

Now the first son to Eton he went.
In the study of law was he sent.
How easy he found, his feet on the ground.
How easy the rules could be bent.

The second had only one aim.
Exam after exam out to gain.
Until that degree, he needed you see.
To climb up the ladder again.

But the third son in state school he found.
Confusion! all things alien around.
He did not see why, he needed to try?
You cannot turn things around.

Coincidence happened one day.
All three met in a strange way.
The third son a thief, the second his brief.
Whilst the first put the third son away.

Now the moral at the end of this tale.
Is, is it through choice that you fail?
Or is it your birth that determines your worth?
In a land where justice prevails.

Toy War

“Tommy go on out to play,
Don't meddle with your books and toys.
Go and get your plastic gun.
and play war with all the other boys.”

Here I am a general full.
I'm Tommy and a hero see.
Bang there's one through the heart.
I die in glorious ecstasy.

“Hey Eddie! I am dead.” I said
As Eddie hit the ground.
But Eddie was preoccupied.
With what his knee had found.

God what a gash, what a sight.
You should have heard him moan.
“Hey Tommy it's cut real bad.
It's cut right to the bone.”

“Guess what happened today mum.
To little Eddie Moor.
He didn't arf hurt himself.
And we was only playing war.”
