Odyssey

Odyssey
Banji Segun (Leaking _Penn)

If he's strong, let him be strong.
The hurricane blows away the hills.
If he's overwhelming, let him be overwhelming.
The bright moon still shines over the river.
If he's fierce, let him be fierce.
The scorching sun torches the earth dry.

Winning or losing doesn't matter.
Affluence and penury are transient.
Morning splendor fades at dusk.
He who hasn’t tasted the sweetness in the bitterness
Values, not the memories’ moments.

The oceans and the skies aren’t enough.
to count yesterday’s grudges
No one lives forever; only for a handful
Time is wasted; bargaining vengeance at pitiful sum.

He who will live will get battered.
He who won’t be battered; will barter.
It’s all a give and take.
Only through loss do we gain.

At the Brink

Heavy thoughts stirred his sleep
waiting for him in his limbo
His past drifted away like fleeting clouds
returning vaguely, like lurking shadows
Visions drizzling through his future past
stranded in the abyss of failed dreams

If all could slow a little
If time will go on a gentle walk
then tomorrow might be better
If for a single more day, the light is lighted
The day can yet be saved

At dusk, he cast a glance
For a long time, lasting a long night
Ending a new story, questioning the old one
cascading the entanglement of mirages held on to

Barren Land sings to his lonely night
whispering bars from a loathed day
mimicking the cries of an aged rain
He lost his will to fight.

Black Is Poetic

It's the concealment of many words yet spoken
The hidden thoughts not let go
Black is beauty buried within
The hub of greater things to come
The incubation of things on its way
Black is heavily pregnant
Waiting to deliver
Black is the miles not yet walked
Black isn't evil
Black is poetic.

End of Days

What happiness is there in living?
What sadness is there in dying?
Happiness and sadness are ashes in the wind.
Death came along with birth; neither were growing young.
The hope of living, is the fear of leaving.

Man's iniquity courts his own end.
His life was lamentable, his death painful.
Only with brightness can good exterminate evil.
Joy and sorrow eventually become dust.

Heavens envy the righteous.
Plucking them before they fully ripen
taking them away from the lurking birds
So they feast not on them, lest they rotten

What's there on the otherside?
Who has been to the otherside?
What happens over there?
He who knows not, speaks not.
only tales for children's nightmares

Heaven's sin goes unpunished.
While it unleashes its wrath
Pitying not the people of this world.
Whose hardship knows no bounds
Who will punish the Heavens?........

Sheeba Trip

awaken in the vine
casting lot for a pick
for a gracious luck
scattered on spiky pines
of roses, of tulip, and of more

pick a lock of hearts
of deuces stack
shuffling decks of paltry picks
when only aces counts

piece by piece
settling in for the race
a stag in a horse race
hampered and broken
an adventure of cascading dreams..

Kiss From Rose

She gave me a heartfelt glance.
I melted at the sight of her.
An antidote to my calm
Anxiety flowed through
As sweat oozes from my skin

Like an addiction, I kept wanting more.
Lost in thoughts of wanting her more
The fume of her fragrance filled my nostrils.
A lady of my wildest dreams

In my lone state
All I saw was her elegance.
beaming at me
It shredded my courage.

She was my weakness.
My Achilles' heel
My source of hidden happiness
My intoxicant

Tell it to the world.
She's going to be my kids' mother.
She who i build my world on
She's my kiss from a rose.
The light that brightens my darkness

Unmei

An illusion etched in stone
passed on upon generations
a clot for the bleeding heart
to soothe the pain
so it hurts a little

a record of things then, now and later
reincarnation of cycles
life certainty of the uncertain
so it happened, when it was new

put a test to her waters
a bold dare,to fetch from her seas
challenge her storm, like a brave sailor
fighting her tidal battle

feast on your victories
sob on your loses
she cares not, does she?
only time complete her cycles
if there was ever one

believe what you will
the day ends when the night comes
whether true or not
the night comes for us all

Amitabha

Peace on to the early morning wind
greetings from dawn in its rise
Following the train down to the trenches
in search of daily ends
in queues aligned and distorted
all hustle to come with a smile.
Many will go; some won't be back.
It's the reality of the making of a man.
In his strength, he shall feed
in this feed his freedom
freedom from the pain of no feed
freedom from the shackles of poverty
He gives his vigor to black
So he rests at grey
It's a market place.
At some point, all must go home.

Deuce

Give me an Ace
pile up the deck
Give me a chess
Let’s save the King

Put on these games
Hope I play well
start, stop the time
Not for too long

Light the fire right
Watch me burn bright
Like sparks at night
When it’s light out

Give me an Ace
Give me a heart
Give me a pill
Hope it heals time

Eden

Welcome to Eden
dominating the dominated
exhibiting the power called man.
the heir to the heirloom

Let's eat from the fruit Eden
seeking the knowledge that birth pain
tooling the land of our toils
spilling the beans of our sorrows

Go out of Eden
Sell out your heritage
Trading inheritance to inherit once
with blood littering our hands

sacrifice the lamb
Rip apart the curtains.
call upon Father's love
Let's go back to Eden.
