Like Birds

We, like birds,
          Soared and dove and hollered
In the gentle air of a midsummers twilight
          Before the watchful eyes
Of a loving and forever Yes.
                    Your exclamatory remarks
                    Don’t getcha too far,
Do they boy? (not anymore at least.)
This night was meant for lovers
          And builders
Of the cloudy dreams
That float across the hole-punched sky.
And the wind dances upon my nose
As if to say we were meant to be.

Regal Beagle

My beagles have talons
like eagles.
Oh the hell to be raised
If, one day, they
sprouted fierce wings
and dove upon this fair city.
Yes.
       Yes.
               Yes!
Blood and thunder. Slash and howl.
You’ve got the mind of a child and all there is to hold,
But never have I ever gone to such extremes in speech.

Forever Free

Well boy, you’ve
Finally
Done it now.
You took the rules
And stole away
Into that forever free will.
I’d like to call it
Disobedience,
But you’d just say it was
Certain.
Then maybe I could secretly believe
In your solid smile.

All I Ever Wanted

Time is relevant
In this here place.
Only a me and a you are a once
And for all.
I wish for nothing more
Than to swallow those words
And silence your sorrows.
I can only forgive those whom
               I love
Please, don’t be so painful.
All I ever wanted in this world was you.
               Me too.

I'Ve Never Known To Love

This language, it startles me.
To think that one may speak
while the other may listen
Is preposterous.
I’ve never known to love
But it seems to make more sense here.

And Be

My Russian is a bit rusty (dear friend,)
But I believe in language
And love.
So why can’t we just sit
And be
Like human beings should.

A Better Fate

My ghosts are my own
And this sky is for you,
True blue and wide as a dream.
All that we could ever share
Is just a glimpse of happiness
In a maddening crowd of faces.
Am I wrong to say that we belong?
Or is it just my soul starting to speak?
For the very first time, I knew.
Either way,
You are a better fate than violets.

Your Grace

Words entangle
And empty phrases fade
In the presence of your grace, my dear.
You are the universal force
That lifts the sun and the cloudy moon
Reflected in your eyes.
Being; just being with you
Is enough to believe in love

It's Getting Late

My mind wanders in nights like these
When the gentle humming of a house,
Asleep,
Suddenly realizes that you are conscious
And sighs in icy blasts from far-away vents.
We were never meant to be awake anyway.

Car Conversations

How long have you been religious?
I’m not religious. I’ve never been religious.
How long have you been spiritual then?
     Aha.
Do you believe in God?
Of course. God is a force found inside each and every
one of us. It's not omnipotent or miraculous. It's just
that voice that tells you "...GO..."
