Heroes and Villains

I’ve listened to stories of every kind,
Of heroes and villains, of friends left behind.
I’ve read all the books and watched all the shows,
Where the heroes are good, and the villains oppose.

But what if the hero isn’t always good?
What if the villain is just misunderstood?
The stories are told by the people that won.
What if they just want the losers undone?

The winner always tells the tale of the fight,
But this doesn’t mean that the facts are all right.
The loser is given a bad reputation
because we aren’t told the whole situation.

I’ve always pitied those deemed the “bad guy”.
Some are just victims whose patience's run dry.
Others are just trying to protect those they love.
Does this mean we should put everyone else above?

If we could only see the entire story,
It might not be the winner that goes down in glory.
So before you judge a villain like the cover of a book,
You should try to dig deeper and get a closer look.

Nature

Standing on a cliff, it feels as if you are a cloud, high above the world.
Lush forests can be seen, full of every creature and plant.
Rivers flow, winding through the valleys, bringing life in the form of water.
Vast fields lay in the open air, covering both hills and plains.
The sheer beauty of it all is captivating, drawing you in.

The only thing better than the sights are the sounds.
Crickets play their sweet melodies, as if inspired by the muses themselves.
The constant rushing of the water soothes the soul.
The wind rustling through the grass is peaceful beyond measure.
This is the world you escape to, the one you wish never to leave behind.

Standing there, you can all but hear the lovely harmonies of the muses,
Those beautiful daughters of Jupiter and Mnemosyne.
Little can bring more joy than the pleasant music they inspire;
Song and verse, hymn and rhyme, all bring pleasure to the ears and to the heart.
The tranquility of music out in the open is the best thing known to man.

The Indescribable Feeling

It is the happiness edged with sadness and pain,
The feeling of dancing alone in the rain.
It’s longing for something you’ll never get,
The missing of someone you’ve never met.
It’s the feeling that will drive you insane.

It is the nostalgia for someplace you’ve never been,
The yearning for a journey that will never begin.
It’s having a home somewhere you can never go,
The unending love of those who will never know.
It’s the feeling in a heart that lies deep within.

It is dreaming of being a part of something you can’t,
Listening to a song that you can never chant.
It’s the reminiscing of something that never happened,
The brightening of a heart that causes it to blacken.
It’s the loving and wanting of something you shan't.

It is the happiest happy and the saddest sad,
The hating and loving, the good and the bad.
It’s the feeling that you simply can’t describe,
That you have to feel in your heart, deep inside.
It’s the best and worst feeling you ever had.

Drowning

Drowning is one of the worst ways to die.
You struggle to keep your head above water,
Splashing around and calling out for help.
But no help comes.
You do your best to keep breathing, to stay alive.
But you are only taking in more and more water.
Eventually, you grow tired.
You start to sink.
Deeper and deeper, darker and darker.
You hold your breath. Just a little longer.
But you start to lose hope.
Your lungs are screaming at you,
“Just breathe in! That’s all you have to do!”
But you don’t.
You don’t want to breathe in the water.
You don’t want to die.
You can’t see, but your life flashes before your eyes.
Reliving every memory one last time.
You can’t hold your breath much longer.
You don’t want to go.
There is still so much for you to do,
So much life to live.
But your lungs win this round.
You take in a breath,
And you are finally at peace, every pain gone, forevermore.

Faith

Faith is the assurance of things hoped for,
And is the evidence of things not seen. (1)
It’s the trust that God exists and is more,
Then anything we'll ever need.

Nothing will be impossible with God; (2)
Through faith in Christ his son, we are redeemed.
With him, we can have an eternal bond,
And by the blood of Christ, we have been cleaned.

The council of the Lord stands forever,
Plans of his heart to all generations. (3)
God always knows our every endeavor,
And we are to preach him to all nations.

So whatever you do, work heartily,
And as for the Lord and not unto men. (4)
Do everything for God with harmony;
Working heartily from now to the end.

From him, through him, and to him are all things; (5)
To him be glory forever. Amen.
We are to keep faith in the king of kings,
And base life on him, not the lives of men.

1 Hebrews 11:1
2 Luke 1:37
3 Psalms 33:11
4 Colossians 3:23
5 Romans 11:36

One From the Dark Side

He is one of those from the dark side,
But he is so different from the rest of them.
He isn’t full of anger, dishonesty, or pride.
If he cares for you, he would treat you like a gem.

He keeps those close to him out of harm’s way,
And make sure that they are never sad.
He is good with the children, and will always play;
He is patient with them, and never gets mad.

He is helpful and kind, even if sometimes quiet.
He is funny and full of joy, unlike all of his kin.
While they stir up chaos, he puts down the riot.
He truly has a kind and full heart within.

Though he’s often judged for coming from there,
The dark side didn’t ever seem to affect him.
A man as good as him is really quite rare,
Even here on the light side, where the sky’s never dim.

Live

Live like the flowers blooming on a tall tree.
Watch the as the sun climbs, marking each new day.
Live like the fish swimming in the open sea.
Be free in your travels; go every which way.
Live like a bug; like an ever-busy bee.
Work hard and be honest, despite what they say.
Live life to the fullest, be kind, and have fun,
For you never know when your life will be done.

Enjoy each day like you won’t get another.
Run through the fields, lie awake watching the stars.
Have fun with your friends, talk more with your mother.
Find out your interests, learn to play guitars.
Go dancing in the rain, love like no other.
Discover the world, even learn about Mars.
Spend all of your time with those closest to you;
Don’t let your good memories of them be few.

Under the Stars

He and I lie under the stars, the moon shining bright above,
Our backs on a blanket, strewn on the ground beneath.
The breeze softly blows the grass surrounding us,
The earthy aroma of the empty field is comforting.
The night is neither cold nor hot, it is merely perfect.
We gaze at the simplistic beauty shining above,
Taking in the wonders of the world all around.
We talk about anything and everything,
Our voices barely above a whisper,
Enjoying just spending time with each other.
Soft, sweet music quietly plays as we talk,
Joining the sounds of the crickets in a delicate harmony.
We lie there for hours, enjoying the gift of calmness
That can be found in nature alone.
The night feels as if it will never end.

Memnon

Aurora, the beautiful goddess of dawn
Mourned the death of her son now gone.
Memnon, by Achilles's spear, was killed.
His mother’s tears, by the fire, now spilled.
Aurora prayed to Jove in the heavens on high,
That she, the least of goddesses, would get a reply.
She prayed not for gifts, altars, or holy days,
She bragged not of honors or works that amaze.
She wished only that her son would have honor,
That Jove above would have sympathy upon her.
Jove on his throne heard the goddess's cry,
And to Aurora, he nodded his assent in reply.
Black smoke rolled off Memnon’s funeral pyre,
Black ashes clustered coming off of the fire.
The ashes took shape in a single mass,
And it all flew up high above the grass.
From the fire, it drew heat and breath of life,
And birds were seen, beaks sharp as a knife.
The birds, real birds, whirled beyond counting,
They circled around the pyre, on the wind, mounting.
Three times, they circled, their cries heard all around.
On the fourth time, the flock split, each to a side, bound.
Two fierce legions, so divided, fought each other,
With claws and beaks in fury, they battled one another.
Then they fell, as death offerings on the ashes,
Their bodies, were now still, covered in gashes,
Recalling that brave soul from whom they sprang.
He who begot the sudden birds, his name forever rang,
“Memnonides”, the birds were called, after the man who had died;
The brave ashen warriors, who as a sacrifice provide.
From then on, the birds came back again and again,
To die in memory of Memnon who was slain.
Each year on the day, the birds were reborn and subdued.
Each year on the day, Aurora’s grief was renewed.

Autumn

When the leaves start falling off all the trees,
When pumpkin-flavored everything is starting to be sold,
When the weather has dropped several degrees,
The stories of autumn will never grow old.

When pumpkin-flavored everything is starting to be sold,
You know that Halloween is just around the bend.
The stories of autumn will never grow old,
And the joy of the season is never pretend.

You know that Halloween is just around the bend,
When everyone starts wearing sweaters in town
And the joy of the season is never pretend.
When fall comes around, there is never a frown.

When everyone starts wearing sweaters in town,
It is a sign that summer is over, and autumn is here.
When fall comes around, there is never a frown;
After all, it is the best season of the year.
