Before the Wire

Before the Wires and Towers dominated the sky,
cutting wounds in the Earth and air,
childish eyes would peek upwards,
towards heaven, beyond god,
towards the Eagle's stair

Even on the haunting winter nights,
The Eagle flew in palest moonlight,
free on the horizon, over the feilds of wheat
Bound to nothing exept it's will,
and the prey, seeking to defeat

And yet the fences were constructed
and wires dangled in the air,
roads connected us to the world
when everything we needed
was still right there

And still, the most painful thing
that i remember from those days
was the once proud and mighty eagle
trapped in wire, just past the hay
contorted, and broken

Calling out, "Mercy, MERCY!"
in squalls and yells, flailing made it worse,
cutting deep into the flesh,
as much as the freedom
of the once majestic, mighty bird

The Marble Stones

Silent Stones
Granite and Marble
Testement to our Mortality
Sun gazes brightly, blinded by sonder
Upon memorials to our fatality

The Autum Chill

The Autum Chill
J. H. Bays

Autum was coming
Winning it's race
Leaves changing colors
The Wind cutting my face

Falling to the Ground
Yellow and Maroon
Crushed Underfoot
Under you

Night came early
Closer everyday
Lights in the Windows
Projecting my stay

Warmpth becomes scarce
Long sleeves drape around
Autum's Chill has arrived
Autum's Chill spreads around town

Talking To a Skull

There I was, stranded in a hull
Talking to a skull
While trapped in the Maw
of the deep

Cold Water at my knees
I started to plea,
"Why Sell my Soul to the Deep?"
While dead men say nothing

Cold Water at my thighs
Now i started speaking lies
"The doors creak shut, i tried,"
Empty black eyes gaze

Salt in the mouth, i began to taste
"I deplore you and this cursed ship"
All while the water rises in haste
Destroying the little hope left

Cold water at my neck
The lights now flicker and spec
Nothing more can be said,
as black surrounds me on all angles

Life Poem No 1

Life is Teeming with Beauty
all through nature and love.
Wrapped around the river beds
and hugging the valley from above
And Yet the sorrows of the sun
obscure the valley with the darkness, bleak
Life now holds a shadow, running on the deep

Casino Haiku

Lucky wheel, chances
black, green, red
It's a chance to take

Autum Short

Autum's Embrace
Shakes the trees
Liberating the
Branches from
A Colorful
Burden

The Canvas Remains Empty

The Final Portrait, unable
to be finished
The brush left alone,
Gathering dust.
The Canvas remains empty

Such a shame
That Art Cannot
Be expressed, nor put
in words.
An image fades

Disapearing Inspiration
Canvas stays empty,
mighty brush stays cold
Summer ends.
Dull nothingness

Fall's embrace persues
And the old man thinks,
wishes perhaps.
The brush is grabed,
And a new line is drawn
