Weep No More

Give me your hand
and lend me your ear.
Stay by my side as the evening draws near.
Put away doubt and suspition and fear
and we shall weep no more.

Give me your heart
and lend me your shoulder -
we'll sit by the fire as the night grows colder
and stand by each other as we grow older
and we shall weep no more.

Give me your faith
and I'll give you my soul,
and my mind, and my body, to have and hold,
for life is a journey
and love is the goal
and we shall weep no more, my love,
and we shall weep no more.

The Accomplice

I sit in my chair
smiling and nodding my head
the eternal sycophant
in the eternal litany
Yes, you're right
Yes, I'm wrong
Yes, you're right

I watch as you calmly load your weapon
I can see the bullet in its chamber
hear the explosion
I can watch as it flies through the air
toward my chest
all in slow motion

I just can't seem to get out of the way

The bullet enters me on a whisper
leaving no scar
not even a hole in my shirt

I'll bleed later

Meanwhile you reload your weapon
and wonder how
you could possibly have missed
the first time

and I lay myself on the floor
and wait for you to take aim

No Way In Heaven

These are the things I never told you
These are the things that I want you to know
These are the arms that'll always hold you
No way in Heaven I'm letting you go

This is the smile that'll always blind me
This is the face that I see when I sleep
These are the words that'll always remind me
This is the promise that God makes me keep

I knew it the first time you whispered my name
All that I needed was there in your heart
You kissed me and nothing was ever the same
and nothing in Heaven can keep us apart

This is the day that I always prayed for
This is the morning my wishes come true
This is the moment my heart was made for
Nothing in Heaven's as lovely as you

A Black

I am black
but I am not A Black.
I am voluptuous
but I am Not a Rack
I am sexy
but I am not just
some good time in the sack.
I am black
but I am not A Black.

I'm not a brain
but I know that I am smart.
I'm no beauty
but just like you
I'm a living work of art.
You try to put me in a slot
but you cannot
know where to start
exept I'm human
with a spirit and a heart

So pardon me if I neglect
to "Shoot mad hooops" like you expect
or use a certain dialect

or sing, or rap or braid my hair
or threaten to "Pop a Cap" in you if you stare
or squeeze out the babies and collect my welfare -

See, I don't need to act a certain way
to prove I'm black
and I don't need to live like
every day is an attack
and I don't need to
live the way you say
because the fact is
I am black
but I am not A Black.

Six

The traffic's roaring
The dog is snoring
The children are screaming out loud
The atmosphere's ringing
with crying and singing
and noise from the growing crowd

Six billion people all in one place
Six billion people sharing space
All of us raving -
a deafening riot
All of us craving a moment of quiet
an hour of stillness
a minute of silence -
a chance to escape from this audio violence

The consequence is chrystal clear -
The more you yell
the less I hear
The less I hear
the more I shout -
Nobody knows what we're screaming about

Six billion people on one small planet
Six billion people -
How can you stand it?

Blasting the radio -
more bad news
All of us lonely, afraid and confused
All of us shrieking and dancing like clowns
Laughing our heads off all over town
Crying like babies in hidden places
Six billion people
with twelve billion faces.

Every

Every day you break my heart
Every day you fill my mind
Every day you shine a light
Every day you strike me blind
Every day I try to hide
Every day I watch the door
Every day you break my pride
Every day I want you more

Everything about you haunts me -
Every gesture
Every glance
makes me wonder why you'd want me
drowning in this circumstance

because every day is just the same
with everything you say and do
Every time you speak my name
I can only run to you
