The Sky Melts

"As the sky melts to reveal a slivered moon,
My own reflection will begin soon

To critique my day,
In an objective way

As to whether my reveal,
Had a satisfactory appeal

To bring me comfort and contentment,
On my journey and regiment

That I am one step closer to my goal,
To achieve all that my heart holds

We are never really complete,
So we search everyday to repeat

Our quest to find our happiness,
With God above as our witness

So may sleep bring you peace of mind,
To know that your search is going just fine"

Letters Grow Up To Be Words

"Words are just letters,
Pasted together

Their individual sound makes no sense
But formed together they are heaven sent

Giving each letter a voice,
It’s message our choice

As we chose letters to fit,
To form the words of our script

Expressing what is in us,
Framing moments we can trust

To explain feelings within,
And to know where to begin

Today or tomorrow,
Be it joy or sorrows

Picking letters that explain,
Feelings of happiness or pain

Understanding that the “u” and “I”,
Always determines the “why”

Of moments and events,
That each day presents."

Value of Friends

"The value of friends,
And those which we depend

Is exponential in its meaning,
Based on the compassion we are seeking

Good friends, true friends
College friends, family friends

The weekend friend collection,
For its activity based connection

The, “I know them”, friend fringe,
And those we “know” and cringe

There are best friends we count,
And of those a few are paramount

For they accept us for our flaws,
Our conversations never have a pregnant pause

They never have to be asked,
For they volunteer for every task

There are no condescending judgements passed,
Maybe a few questions about our past

But total trust without remorse,
As we travel life’s uncertain course

So be thankful for those set apart,
Because true friends belong in your heart"

Power of Water

"Water is the gift of life,
That makes things grow just right

So full of energy and power,
Providing light to every home and tower

By itself it can cleanse,
Dirt or an original sin

Sometimes we find ourselves in hot water,
By creating some kind of bother

Occasionally we are on thin ice,
For behavior not so nice

I prefer smooth still water,
Like a heartfelt moment that matters

Or a misty rain that falls,
Beaconing me with its call

To witness the nourishment it brings,
To every plant, tree or living thing

Including me ,
With a buoyancy

That keeps my head above water,
And a confidence I won’t falter

Because the water in the river accepts,
My burdens without regret

Floating them away,
So I am free, today"

Fruit of Your Labor

"The sweetness of summer,
Blooms from the darkness of winter

Plants pulled from the earth,
By the sun, proving it’s worth

Life flows,
Bees sow

Pollinating the gifts we receive,
From plants and trees

A bounty of goodness, juicy and sweet,
Amazed by nature and this feat

Year after year, the cycle of life,
Each summer bearing fruits just right

That sustain us by marking time,
Creating memories divine

Of that perfect peach,
The best one just out of reach

Each berry better than the next,
Blackberry is my favorite, I confess

It’s berry defended by gnarly thorns,
Providing scratches to adorn

My arms and hands,
Payment that the canes demand

So to in life’s conceal,
Our efforts are revealed

Bruises and bumps,
Or the occasional lump

From trying our best,
No matter how difficult the test

But there is satisfaction in your reward,
So the abrasions are ignored

With the fruit of our labor,
And its success we savor"

Alive

"Another morning has arrived,
Your heart beating....alive

So thankful for another day,
And to Him, God you pray

For wonder and beauty,
Surrounding thee

In all that abounds,
Even from the quietest sound

Gratitude and happiness,
From all that you’ve been blessed

Wisdom to choose the right path,
Happiness for a relaxing bubble bath

Sincerity in what you believe,
Confidence in the relationships you weave

Emotions abundant and under control,
Compassion to make you whole

For today is the first day of the rest of your life,
And only you can make it right"

My Universe

"Space is the definition of time,
And the speed light travels in a line

My mind cannot fathom,
Our earth is smaller than an atom

Amongst the billions of stars,
And the few we call ours

The earth really is lost in space,
But are we the only human race?

The probability exists we are not alone,
Until we explore more of the unknown

We won’t know for certain,
What’s behind the universes dark curtain

Better to let others consider,
For I will just ponder and sit here

In my little spot on earth,
Infinitesimal like a grain of dirt

Knowing that I am matter,
With a brain seeking the answer

Is destiny,
Decided for me"

Demand

"Drawn towards the word demand,
And the connotations it remans

The popularity of a particular brand,
Or the request to know where you stand

Compensation for a fateful event,
Or a request as to where you went

Retribution to even the score,
Stipulation you need much more

An ultimatum for your time,
A comment on the bottom line

So many ways,
It affects our days

Requiring us to balance,
What is important to us

Not to be served or servant,
But to ourselves fervent

In our aspirations,
Or relations

Without intimidation,
Or conditions

Of what others perceive,
Or in what we receive

And are looking for,
And the future has in store

Life is a game of one,
You decide how it’s to be won

Knowing whatever it demands,
You can"

Motivation Defined

"Each day we have intent,
To improve and survive our ascent

Of this mountain called life,
Wondering how to climb it right

What determines our desire to scale,
When faced with the possibility to fail

Is it the fear of being pursued,
By people telling you what to do

Or are we drawn towards power,
With every mountain we conquer

Are we just following a beaten path,
As so many before us have

Is it a requirement of life,
Each day to do battle against strife

Picking up our burdens at the door,
To fight the day once more

What is it that keeps us going,
To push us without knowing

If we are to achieve,
If that it what we believe

Despite feeling overwhelmed,
That each day requires us to be compelled

Constantly aware the burdens on us,
Every moment here until we are dust

Like an arrow in its quiver,
We need ammunition so our dreams won’t wither

Understand then the power of motivation, And how we fuel it’s affirmations

Faith that we will endure,
With each victory we secure

Confidence to make the right choice,
Consented by the power in my voice

Trust your instincts,
And the self doubt it defeats

Have the courage to admit to love,
And it’s power to soar above

Believing in the impossible,
Because together you’re unstoppable

Today and each day forward,
The future as your reward"

Intuition

Intuition is a skill to master,
For it helps to get what we are after

It’s our intuition that manages,
Ourselves before their are damages

Because it can sense out something wrong,
But also suggest if we are to belong

It provides us with a sense of purpose,
And not to engage with a three ring circus

So how do these inklings come to be,
How do they percolate within me

Experience and information play their part,
So does listening to ones heart

Lessons taught of right and wrong,
To know what side of the fence you are on

Common sense is another litmus test,
To determine if my decision is best

What our eyes see,
Our mind decrees

Forming opinions in an instant,
With choices that are insistent

All have a hand in our intuition,
And dealing with life’s decisions

Whether on the path toward a goal,
Or a request you have been told

How the adventure is to be,
Will be decided by intuition and me
