Grandma

The world did wear you down and on you passed.
Nightmares of young did press your eyes to close,
But God has gathered you and him at last.

Today we mourn for you, with hearts half-mast,
Today your joy above joins here our woes.
The world did wear you down and on you passed.

Now Zion holds you in its streets, so vast,
Your withered hands and shining soul repose.
But God has gathered you and him at last.

Gehenna reaps none of what it has cast,
Sheol takes skins and God what he now sows.
The world did wear you down and on you passed.

The space where you once stood won’t fill so fast,
Your words will warm in us what hate once froze,
But God has gathered you and him at last.

Go meet Allah and He, your loves, in grassed,
Unfettered fields. Your death on Earth now shows
The world did wear you down and on you passed,
But God has gathered you and him at last.

Creative Procrastination

Surplus Kirby’s dance
Computer screens digest your time
And spit out Kirby’s.

This girl next to me
Likes writing concrete poems
(I am wasting time).

Reds turn slowly blue
Leaves disintegrate to snow
Fall turns to winter.

Engineering Class

Now give me hope when books begin
to bite, when school begins to strangle me.
My worries wear on me and Satan's sin
does weave and warp Hosannah's peace.

I Lost the First

Enjoying my freedom on
A park podium.

To Build a Fire

To build a fire demands the stamp of time,
A stamp that many know, but few employ.
Success means glow of light sublime
And greater time its warmth will they enjoy.

So many claim to know this flame's embrace,
But miss enduring embers, hot as one
Would ever need, but no! The panicked pace
Of lonely hearts do seek the searing sun.

I ask a simple thing: look past the flare
That kindling creates and lower logs
Much larger on the fire. This kind of care
Will shoo away the dark that light defogs.

Truth and Happiness

The following is a conversation between a classmate and I when we should have been paying close attention
to what the teacher was saying, although the subject is almost identical in both the teacher's talk and our
conversation. Each stanza is one thought, and the next is a reply from the other. I apologize for any
pretense, I tend to slip into that when writing.

Truth is undefined;
Grasp it if you dare, the air
Will be disturbed then.

Happiness is naught
Unhappiness is nothing.
Minds birth reality.

Happiness matters?
If happiness was matter,
It would be truthful.

Truth is meaningful?
Truth brings disillusionment,
Truth feeds our sorrows.

Truth appeals to Mind
Happiness to Mood, and the
Soul combines the two?

The soul embraces
Its diversity, yet it
Longs for unity.

How tortured is the soul
That doesn't seek both of them
One hand to balance...

In pieces and bits
After its foreseen failings,
A puzzle remains.

Happiness can bring
Lies and Truth; Truth can bring both
Grief and Happiness.

Illustrated by
Our lives and these lines, both
Lies and Happiness.

A Manifesto For Friends - Stanza Ii

Hi Folks,

I picked this poem back up from about four years ago (It was called Caution and Joy back then) and added another stanza to it! Let me know what you think!

These friends are wrong; with every nerve I know this.
They know it not, about this joy they sing.
My plank that sang my end is but a kiss
From God. This narrow nest of crows would bring
A knowledge of their sin and mine, that we
Were all afloat -- no hope for them or me
Unless we clung to God, our blessed land.
And on the rock, we build like warmest sands
A love that nurtures love and joy lay bare
So husbands, wives, and children too demand
That Love and Joy only stay when aware.

A House Divided

Evermore the battle wages on.
My body aches for unity,
and my house cries for reconstruction.
I cry out every day for the One,
but push the soul food aside.
