Superwoman

I'm sitting here again,
Just waiting for a call
So I can put on my suit
And help someone get up from their fall.
It's not an easy job,
This whole Superwoman thing.
Flying through the sky,
Moving at lightening speed.

As I sit here waiting,
I'm contemplating
Whether or not I should do something,
Because this is getting boring.
The music is on its sixth rotation.
I had every word memorized after the second,
But I know as soon as I start something,
Of course, I'll hear the ring.
It never fails.

When it finally does ring,
I put the "S" on my chest.
I'm there in two seconds
Helping clean someone's mess.

Broken lives and tattered dreams,
This is my reality.
Broken hearts. So many tears
I've wiped from eyes for all these years.
The children are the hardest to behold.
How do I save them from shattered homes?
The "S" on my chest is only a sign.
I'm not God. I can't go back in time.
I can't change the lives given to them.
I'm just here to help their little hearts mend.

When my job is done,
I head back home,
Take the "S" off my chest,
And lay down to rest.
Until the next time I get a call
And put my "S" back on to save someone from their fall.

My So-Called Life

I smiled, then cried.
You laughed. You lied.
You left. I tried
To pick up the pieces of my life.
It shouldn't have been such a surprise.
I should have seen this one before I
Fell too hard, got in too deep,
Before I believed that you were in love with me.
I smiled, then cried,
Because you laughed and lied.
You left while I tried
To get back to my so-called life.

The End of It

Yeah, it's true.
I hated you.
You hated me, too, though.
So,
As you can clearly see,
The playing field's even between you and me.
You hurt me.
That's clear to see.
I, in turn, hurt you,
Not that it was right for me to do,
But I did.
Apology accepted?
Yours is.
Can't that be the end of it?

Mine

My God.
My Rock.
My Strength.

My Friend.
My Life.
My Faith.

My Anytime.
My Everytime.

My Day or Night.
My Always Right.

My Lord.
My Saving Grace.

My Home.
My Safest Place.

Through everything,
You're everything:
My every want and every need.

Never Forget

He stood right there and watched me play.
He held my hand, kissed my tears away.
We sat behind the school all night one day.

He made sure I was protected
Every single second
When he was by my side and,

Even when he couldn't be,
He would constantly worry,
No matter how much I told him not to worry about me.

He let m fall asleep in his arms.
He always kept me safe from harm.
We used to be each others alarm.

We used to go to Jeeper's so he could play a game.
No two days with him were ever the same.
I always supported his dreams of fame.

His laugh still gives me butterflies.
Whenever he looks at me, I
Still get weak, just from looking into his eyes.

He stood right there when I faced my fears.
He held my hand and kissed away my tears.
I'll never forget our love through the years.

Your Eyes

The places I go when looking into your eyes,
Away from reality and all the lies.
I wonder if you see the same things in me,
If our love could ever be;

But then she comes into the picture,
And I realize the looks you give to her
Are the same looks I give to you,
But our love I never pursue.

I don't know why I sit back and watch
As your love for her grows and mine is lost.
I guess I'm holding on to a dream
That unfortunately will never be.

Guess What

I've been pushed down, beat down, knocked out
Defeated.
I've been laughed at, picked at, talked about,
Mistreated.
I've been shoved, stared at,
Tested.
But guess what....
I made it.

I'm still here
Despite the tears
That fell.
Through all the years
Of hate from my peers,
Guess what yall...
I made it.

You can push me down and try to make me weak
But I'll stand back up
Because I'm strong.
You can talk about me
And I'll turn the other cheek
And simply walk away
Because I'm strong.

I've been to Hell,
Pushed down and fell
But I got back up
And I'm here.
You tried to knock me down,
With your "better than thou"
And your "half-breed, mixed thing,
Nobody wants you here"
But guess what....
I'm still here.

I'm not going anywhere
So if you don't want me here
Then I suggest you pack up
And leave.
I have rights just like you
And despite what you do
I'm still strong and I know
This is my home.

So if you want to throw a fit
Be my guest, I'll just sit
And wait for you to finish
And then laugh.
I won't pay you back
For the things that you did.
But I'll fight for what's mine
Til the end.

This goes out especially to all of my mixed people out there. As a biracial individual, I've
been through it all too. However, I don't want to limit this to just mixed people. This also
goes out to anyone who has overcome any situation. It takes a lot to look at those who are
kicking you and stand your ground instead of retaliating or running. Keep ya head up!

One Step Ahead

Dream deferred
Tears unheard
Unseen
Silently
Forever looking at stars
Dreaming of ours
Futures unknown
Forever one step ahead
To our ten steps slow
Promises to never look back
To let the past be just that
Supressing memories
Even those of a happy me
Happier than the one in the mirror some days
Sick of your ways
And your empty words
Of futures unknown
Forever one step ahead
To our ten steps slow
Promising to never look back
To let the past be just that
And I'm thinking of leaving you there
To satisfy the stranger in the mirror
To satisfy me
And my future unknown
Forever one step ahead
To my ten steps slow
I promise to never look back
To never repeat the bad
But to smile instead
At where I've been
And to stare at the clouds
To wish on stars
Letting go of ours
And focusing on mine
Dreams defined
My future still unknown
Only one step ahead
To my two steps slow
I'm catching up, not looking back
Keeping the past as just that
Learning to smile at possibilities
And me.

A Broken Fairytale

Once upon a time,
A boy met a girl
With his best friend in toe.
This boy and this girl
Became young love in its essence.
His best friend became what some would call
Her own personal hidden blessing.
His devotion for his friend
Couldn't quite bring him to confess,
But he cared about that girl enough,
To warn her of future distress.

After 3 long years,
Of the back and forth romance,
Their young love finally ended,
The girl was broken hearted and defenceless.
She had given her all
To someone who was only willing to take it.
The best friend tried to warn her,
But she couldn't see her lover fake it.

A year would pass,
Before the best friend would find,
His best friend's ex,
The one he longed to say was "mine".
A birthday of hers
Was his golden opportunity.
When he missed her night out,
He offered to take her to a movie.
She wrestled with the thought:
Do I open that door?
She kept pushing it off,
Until she couldn't avoid it anymore.
Neither one of them expected,
Or even could dream
Of all that would come
From one night, one movie.

A love affair of sorts,
Filled with constant ups and downs,
But despite their best efforts,
They couldn't help but stick around.
A year and 2 months
Of the greatest love that ever lived,
Was shared between these two,
Who were only just kids.
Neither one of them was ready,
They didn't know what to do,
They loved so deeply,
But this experience was so new.
A girl with a broken heart,
With no sense of true self worth,
Met a boy with a broken heart,
And the desire to move forth,
With her by his side,
Forever hand in hand,
Yet she felt she didn't deserve him,
And did what she could: she ran.

Now her love for him consumes her,
But his heart is in pieces.
Now he's too afraid of her
But his love he swears never ceases.
And she cries herself to sleep at night,
For the best friend she hurt foolishly.
And she prays for their future together,
The one he says can never be.
