Oh Africa

OH! Africa,
The faithful cow of a greedy man.
Always giving milk for a straw of grass.

OH! Africa
The resource-full man without a plan.
Trading gold bars for cups made of brass.

OH! Africa
Led by torch bearers who are blind
chasing a world that’s left you behind.

OH! Africa
Till when will you
continue to lie prostrate,
and allow these miscreants to penetrate,
your backside just to demonstrate,
Why you’re their favorite whore,
and your shrine, theirs to explore.
Oh Mama Africa.

The One-Woman Man

?He has the ability
but not the will.
Even If he willed it
would that muffle up
the unrelenting voice
of Oliver Twist.
The twist is he’s got only
one stinger, a bee by choice
so careful who he stings.
He is the one-woman man

He is the big oak tree
In the middle of a cornfield,
unmoved by the storm of
accolades conferred on peers
by a confused society
who hypocritically
admonish same deed.
He is the son of a queen,
plant of a good seed.
He is the one-woman man

Blame him for being choosy
His eyes are like x’ray,
sees beyond the skin and booty
not entirely fascinated by glamour.
Guided by the wisdom of old
and restrained by his own values.
He is the one-woman man

Whomever he settles on
has found a gem
a rare diamond
in a stockpile of sand.
His love brewed by
the best brew masters,
knowledge and conscience.
He expects nothing less in return.
Let the world behold
the yardstick of true manhood.
He is the one-woman man

Withering In the Wilderness

I persuaded myself to sleep last night
“it’s good to be alone”.
Why it felt like a deja vu,
I have no clue.
Wait, I recall those words.
I told myself same the day
you chose his certitude over
a stroll with me in the wilderness
Or so I thought.

Now I’ve become an obdurate liar.
So much so that I believe what I say.
But you shouldn’t darling,
lest I fall into oblivion.
I’m doing just fine without you.
There, I lied again.
This lie is new,
but the feeling is same
Because my heart is deaf
to the rantings of my thoughts,
as if to punish me for loving you.

When you said goodbye that night,
aboard the train going where
your love is appreciated.
I knew all you wanted to hear
was ‘don’t go darling’.
But indecision was my decision.
Split between having something
to hold on to and having
nothing to hold me back.
But as I go down this quicksand,
I wish I had chosen the former.
