Your Smile Sends Me

You were sly with your wanton stare
How you seduced me with only a look
Neither classic nor found in any book
Unique to you it was somewhat unfair
While I was naked just standing there

The strokes so quick we barely...met
I do not know how the pallet had felt
But I feared my whiskers would melt
As I kissed the canvas, us two a duet
A miracle occurred as the paints...set

I the paint brush marveled at your smile

WONDERFUL WORLD

Cool wind whispers on the breeze Shimmering sunshine warms the autumn leaves Dragonflies dance over a sparkling lake Slithering silently is a sleepy snake Beauty surrounds, just open your eyes Embrace our world, its simply paradise Blackbirds sing a sweet song Tunefully twittering all day long Farmers plough the patchwork fields The seasons provide; nature yields Our bountiful earth God reveals Nature plays its hand Rain rejuvenates our land Oceans blue surround us Flowing freely without fuss Spring and summer Autumn and winter They always appear Creating our year Our beautiful Simply wonderful World 10~19~14 Contest :I do not know Sponsor: Andrea Dietrich ~awarded 3rd place~

Heritage

The ranch on which I hang my hat, though short on most the frills,
Is thirteen sections, give or take, of rugged trails an’ hills.
We call it ‘home’, our little world, our very own frontier,
Amongst the cattle, sheep an' goats; the varmints, hogs an' deer.

Today I watched the breakin' dawn an' whiffed the mornin' air,
A time I often set aside for things like thought an' prayer.
A Mockin'bird an' Mornin' Dove, an' other birds at play,
Were there to sing an' set the mood to start another day.

This mornin' saw the strangest thing, like time itself had merged,
An' all the souls who once were here, appeared an' then converged.
In swirlin' clouds of mist an' fog, right off the bluffs they rolled,
Till all had gathered in the glen, the modern an' the old.

The Indians, conquistadors, an' other ancient men,
The soldiers from this country's wars, an' cowboys from back when…
They all had come from yesterday to help me understand
Our link with those who came before, to heritage an' land.

A crazy notion, so I thought, that they could just appear,
But as the morning went along the reason got real clear.
They rode along with me that day to show me things I’ve missed,
The things I’ve seen a thousand times an’ some I’d just dismissed.

Those wagon roads of long ago, still evident today,
Are carved in rock an' rutted earth, not apt to wash away.
They linked the missions, forts an' towns those many years gone by;
An' left their mark for all to see, as modern times grew nigh.

The artifacts an' weathered ruins attest to yesterdays,
When others came an' lived their lives in very different ways.
We've seen their skill in arrowheads they honed from fired stone,
An' craftsmanship in beads an' tools they fashioned out of bone.

At ever turn and trail we took was something to remind,
The Maker must have had a plan laid out for humankind.
The Earth He made’s been feedin' us a half-a-million years,
An' used it's wonder, force an' change to challenge pioneers.

I do not know if they'll return or if they’ll feel the need,
But I’m prepared to ride the trail, where ever it may lead.
We all are spirits ridin’ time with bodies of the Earth,
Whose time has come to take the reins an’ offer up our worth.

The land has been the legacy we cultivate an’ reap,
The life has been the heritage our father’s fought to keep,
An’ we are bound throughout our time with those who came before,
To put our hearts and souls to it, and make it something more.

CREATIVE INSPIRATION

CREATIVE INSPIRATION Inspiration where do you go when you leave and your dry, barren riverbed causes blinding dust storms in my mind? Do you evaporate into mist, become a gray dense fog lying heavily in the air, intangible… floating like a cloud, ever changing shapes? Are you carried by the wind, held hostage to feed another storm when lightening strikes and your deluge once again swells the river to overflowing, racing free and wild, reaching out beyond all boundaries? If so, storm of inspiration please deliver unto me your monster category five hurricane © Sandra M. Haight 2014 All Rights Reserved ~First Place~ Contest: “I Do Not Know” Sponsor: Andrea Dietrich

Indelible

I was seventeen, had one year left of high school and a boyfriend I didn't even love.
It was the end of summer, and I was on the verge of a night indelible
because it was incredible for me.

If "tall, dark, and handsome" had a face, it belonged to one who walked
into the store I worked at nightly all alone. He brought with him a smile just for me -
beautiful, magical, seducing. Were he music, he'd have been the warmest song
to ever touch my soul. Perhaps it was the moon, lunacy-inducing, that made me crave
his visits more and more, for he'd come each night into the store,
his ritual to tease me with his glances; then stand in line with just one purchase,
engaging me with words deliciously belying that he spoke my native tongue.
Did he know I fairly worshiped him?
And where was Aphrodite to let her dear Adonis wander free?

I learned eventually he was staying with a brother and soon would be returning to Quebec.
I do not know, but I can now infer the moon waxed full by the time he asked me out,
for I had waxed complete in my audacity. Knowing it was his last night in town,
I closed the store up early and fled with my Prince Charming.
The stuff of poetry that night transpired. . .
fodder for the several poems of romance I've since penned.
Sitting in his car in front of my own house, late at night, into the early morning. . .
The way he gazed into my eyes, teaching me of butterfly kisses
and his breathing his sweet breath along my ear lobes,
the way our fingers interlaced, the way he caressed the small of my back. . .
He taught me how small things
can be just as sensuous as that act of love that virgins do not know,
and he branded me with a yearning for a sweet romantic love I'd never felt so strongly,
nor would I ever know again as wonderfully as I was shown that night,
for others in my life I've kissed, yet barely missed.

My dream love wrote me postcards from Quebec. Then it all died out.
I married. A few years passed; then I got a call from him, completely unexpected!
Somehow he'd tracked me down to my new home. I took the call,
as I held my firstborn baby daughter in one arm.
Heart in my throat, I told him it was nice to hear from him, but I was married now.
So though I'll never know what "may have been," I'm still left with the memory
I chose to make with him that one day of my life, my very best,
because for just one night, I was Cinderella. A prince still holds my slipper,
and infinite romance lives on inside my poems.

RELIGION

Wrapped in the arms of nature, a breath and breast to rest upon,
I am one with the energy flowing from the male and female elements.
I do not fear my creation, my parent bore not a sinner into this world,
They bore a life to tend to the harmony of nature, not a destruction of it.
From my hands became the power to manipulate my world, it is mine,
To do no harm, to use these hands to heal, to help, to empower others.
My voice does not sing in chapels, it speaks to the particles of life, energy.
Institutions have no place for me, for I am among the trees, swaying in leaves.
I harvest the energies of objects, drawing in the positive nutrients they deliver.
There is history to the craft that I have not put to memory, my body knows,
It is in my blood, the connection between me and the moon,
no bookstore self help nor religious books could ever explain the belief.
Would a witch by any other name be feared or respected, I seek not that label.
Pagan, history thrives on bare bones that brought magic into this world,
The roots of witchcraft, smothered by invading investments of other religions.
I do not know the teaching of such, but I know the Earth and she speaks.
I create my universe from the powers she allows me to have, I earn my life.
Love, that is what makes religion, love for self and for others, true love,
And with the rituals I respect that harmonious flow, from the love of me outwards,
With this hands speaking in rhythm with my heart, I evoke the powers,
Inside the energy of my aura as I stand beside you, you will know, you are loved.

Alone Together

A "collaboration" with Edgar Allan Poe's poem titled, "Alone"

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were - I have not seen
As others saw - I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.

Where years of mingled adolescent voices
Denied a heart and it's choices
My quiet self could not speak
Another outcast - a soul unique.

From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I lov'd, I lov'd alone.

Pages of art, the written word
An interest each one found absurd
A solemn love that I must hide
To keep when I and time can abide.

Then - in my childhood - in the dawn
Of a most stormy life - was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:

How - in melancholy youth - I found
The companion to whom I remain bound,
I do not know precisely the day when
Though I knew I had gained a friend.

From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that 'round me roll'd
In its autumn tint of gold -

The years dragged on without relent
As months of solitude were spent,
Down a new road I traveled then
Meeting destiny, though I knew not when.

From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by-
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.

     Undeterred by any supernatural power
     Or life's occasional teardrop shower
My soul kept tight hold of passion
Let me fulfill it in my own fashion
This outcast "demon" found in me a friend
Alone together, now and beyond the end.

Nobody Told ME

Nobody told me that the road would be EASY,
Believe ME.
With every BREATH,
I begin to feel one with DEATH.
Wondering why it’s not me lifeless in the GRAVE.
Wondering why my life is being SAVED?
The more I breathe in this world’s AIR,.
The more I seem to CARE.
The more than I APPRECIATE,
Every time I AWAKE.
Every time I CRY,
Every fear I FACE,
I’m realizing I’m living NOW,
for a purpose, while preparing MYSELF,
for a better PLACE.
I do not know what tomorrow BRINGS,
But I know what today IS.

My tomorrow results from what I make of TODAY!
Today determines what my tomorrow may BRING!
Yesterday helps factors a fraction of my TODAY!

But nobody told ME!
The weight of the world would be carried by ME.
I knew it would be HARD,
but never did I think it would be this DIFFICULT.
I never thought I would actually loose so MUCH,
before I gain so LITTLE.
I never thought the little gain, would mean so MUCH!

I never realized how little I CRIED,
Until when I TRIED,
 		no tears would FLOW.
And when they started they would never STOP!
And when they stopped, the feelings would still REMAIN!

Nobody told me I would loose so many KEN.
Nobody told me I would loose several of my close FRIENDS.
Nobody told me I would feel so low DOWN.
Nobody told me I would be hurt by words SPOKEN.
Nobody told me my heart would be constantly BROKEN.

But even if they had told ME,
all of this and much MORE.
It would have never prepared me to be the CHOSEN!

Sensual And Beautiful

The sun disappears in the horizon somewhere
it's not just me who regards the beauty
The horizon is a lovely color spectrum
The sky is like a watercolor paper
The colors float across the sky
                             Small narrow clouds create stripes
The sun drink some water from the ocean
Dipped its colors carefully in the ocean
Playing a bit with the waves
                                       It is an amazing sight
                                    The colors are so intensive
                                     It is sensual and beautiful
The sun disappears in the horizon somewhere
                                        I do not know where
but it has given me an inner peace and pleasure

Pluviophile

I am not a rain dog
With my tail between my legs
Dying to run home in haste
Away from showers that gradually increase
And then come pounding heavily down
Like sheets of splintered pearly glass

I am not a loner
Who leads a wasted life
On doorsteps sharing aching pain
With others who live rough
Deprived of warmth and comfort

I am a lover
I inhale the smell
Enjoy the caressing feel
Of seductive teasing raindrops

They fall around
With sweetest sound
Passionate the call

It echoes
I hear

water

Face To Face

Dear God If you blind me I'd still see your beauty I'd still find you through fresh rain on my palm the note of a pianist and song of a bird Through mild perfume of flowers the splash of a wave and wind in my hair Through the blessing of my mother's arms the sun on my face and laughter of each friend Dear God If you mute me I'd still praise you through the voice in my heart the strength in my soul and pen in my hand Dear God If You break me to pieces If the cross is too heavy and the road gets too long If I feel all alone with nobody there I'd still call you Cos,what is best for me I do not know What you want from me I cannot understand Yet,I do believe in you I believe in you and in nobody else Yes,I lean on you without knowing how ,when or where Cos I know,Cos you know this tiny dot I live in this daily labyrinth I walk is nothing but a stepping stone Nothing but a journey that I oughtn't question Cos,this devouring needy world is only a salt drop in an ocean compared to eternal happiness You have so long prepared.

Leaving Madrid

In mid-June's heat, we wait inside the bus,
and everyone has said their last goodbyes.
The Moorish boy I’ve come to know is sad.
He says he knows I never will return.

The bus pulls out (his face just fades away).
We pass through streets that now seem not the same
as those that we first rode down when we came
here six short months ago. It seemed so strange!

Madrid, my first impression of you was
how everything seemed dingy and so grey.
But staying here, I found your treasures, and
enjoyed your many charms that I unearthed.

I’ve walked among your people, tasted foods:
paella, soups and pastries and much more.
I’ve visited Retiro Park, seen art
in sculptures on your streets and in museums.

I’ve visited your shops, your restaurants
where dancers of flamenco hypnotize,
your ring for fighting bulls, your theaters;
your streets seem now familiar, almost sweet!

And now we leave to catch that big bird home.
I do not know my future; I feel glum.
The group I came with, now like family,
seem happy as they chat excitedly.

They’re speaking of their families back home
and what they’re going to do back in the States.
But I alone am missing you, Madrid,
before I even board that giant bird.

FLAMED DANCE

Mantle of summer, cloaked so bright Where flowers pose lending their grace. Along red vines as sun ignites My carefree limbs to twirl, retrace The gleam of breezes dappling through On painted strokes with finest hue. How then can I resist The gush of wildness’ flow When come nightfall, hands lift To reach flamed moon aglow, Like vignette of night’s show... And tasting summer’s blaze Heated sighs I release, As blossoms now amaze With flavors that tease... One more dance While hips fling Of sweet romance; While bringing A dizzying Trance! Warm Soup

I really must confess
I do not know her very well
But judging by her poetry
There's much that I can tell
True, I had to read
Through everything she wrote
Sifting through her comments
And jotting down some notes
Then donned my strongest spectacles
So as, to read between the lines
And felt I came to know her
Between the verses and the rhymes
I met her in a conflict
As we strolled through truth and lies
She's a pupa busting outward
To become, a butterfly
They claim that she's bi-polar
I say there's no such thing
She's a flower, that needs water
And the warmth that comes with spring
She thinks that She is worthless
But many here sure know it
As she struggles through the tears
She's one of our best poets

and again

And again

I miss the nothingness

And again

I yearn for something

which isn't there

Never was

and Never will be

And again

the tear of joy

becomes

a drop of myrth

upon pink lips

Incense of ashes

with golden ends

And again

I wonder

Why I'm still here

Why do i come back

What for ?

I must leave

I must go

Afar

from a shelter

which won't

protect me

Distant

from a nest

which

dripples honey

in empty wells

Wells

too shallow

to get to

And again

I have

to travel

to a place

I do not know

to a horizon

without a line

And again

I'll be the vagabond

not to be searched for

nor to be found.

Purity-Love

Freed from my mind
I escape it
I end time
I think it
I think nothing of it
I believe in you
I believe in the American Dream
I think of it
I think nothing
I know you are something
How is it found
Where are you going
Where are you flowing
the child is christened in the name of beginnings
I think it and it appears
I make it
Golden
Slow
Shower my notions
Employ my emotions
Destroy my devotion and crush my spirit
Gaunt
So hear it
where do I enjoy you
I see you
How dare you make me feel you
I don't know what to believe but I hear you
I entertain the notion that you are with me
I believe you are near me
But the truth might be sullen
So broken and sudden
Lee...Quite, I train thee
I believe you are not ready
I believe you are rock steady
How quite faulty
You are my enemy
My devoted
My first born
I am so often quoted
who am i
No one
I tell you
I am nothing but me
I dare you
How can I be anything other then me
I am someone who shines
Like it or not I don't care...don't wine
How could you
No you don't know me
You don't show me
I don't believe anything you did anyway
How could I
I am your friend ..not your enemy do I
Look at me
I think of nothing of your desires
I don't care
I think it is so amazing that you think I am flaunting my emotions
I am not
I am devotion
I am heart and saviour
Know my soul
hear it
Feel it and send me on a spirit chasing car ride like a fly trite respite
I think it
Feel me
I think nothing of it
I am enjoying your pain and I suffer
It is so pure that you laugh and I wonder
How could you believe in me
I don't understand thee
You
I don't get you
How could you be someone I care for and let you
Be me
How do you
I do not know what you do
I just know that you do and you do it well too
How. Destroyer of worlds
You amaze me
I don't care for your words
I am action word; phase me
Trust
I forgot what it's like
lust
I feel it daily
Like
It or amaze me
plainly
Live die young
and escape me
I am more and more ranked and how does that take me
I don't care about games, I play them too often
I lose quite a bit and enjoy them not too breach it
I think
I wonder
where do you hold regard for my trance verb
I wonder what you'll do next in this causative turd
It is just that
It is just a wonder
I don't care what you do because doing it tears you assunder
Don't
Engage in the enemy
I slink forward and left of me
I see something coming out of you
Something dreadful and something pure
I think it is clean and dirty at the same ****ing time
How can I end it, how can I end this rhyme
I don't actually know, I don't actually care
I wonder where I left my ****ing underwear
Where what who why
When do I leave the time beat
drummers never learned to retreat
I think they just walk and walk the beat follows
how could you know the facts when you learned just to swallow
I think...damn girl you know it and you know it well
Question my rythm and cast a damn spell
So..what is left
I think nothing is here for me
But the truth is ...it remains hidden from me
Lolz. I think it is funny as hell
However divine I have never been in it oh well
I think...wait a minute hell is on earth it is not a place deep
it is here and oh damn that curse
I think it is magical, how can it be so ****ing real
I am such a spiel
I think and it happens
It just appeals
I wander
It makes me slender
I think I lost weight when I enter the rhyme world
I enter devine world
I think well oh well how I left it and hell
It is...Yes it is
It is truly a miss
I am wondering why I have never just kissed ...
you
I am
Wondering
But simply stuttering
I leave myself out of it
I am so plain and cluttering
I think
How dare you make me so plain
I mean
damn girl you hate me too much to say
I think you just wanted to twist the handle deeper
push
I want to make you happy...so just make it hurt
I crush
I think
damn
It is so wonderful
it hurts but it's plainly cursed upon me
I don't care ...just stun me
I am at least careless
she wanted to just caress
I wanted to make her mine
She wanted to spend my...time
I wanted nothing more and now
I am alone and all the time in the world is left ...shone
I see it
lolz I don't care but I'm deceived by it
I think
How dare you
How can you make me into something or other devine and not like a brother
but really
I am so pure and destruction is so meaningless
I am so feeling less
I think...wait
I can't feel any longer
My heart ripped asunder and I am so blunt
Like an instrument forced by the way you want me t ojust glance at your breasts
but the rest...it's like a beautiful test?
yes.
Just a test
A test in time
I think it is just a rhyme but the truth is I am being tested by G-d
How could I know what I have done, I have not
When I do it I do it I don't just believe it
I don't care for the rhetoric
I don't deceive it..
I before e except after C and that is the question I place before you
How can you care about appostrophes and comma's
when there are more important things in life
Like...Love
Isn't that enough?

Wondrous Kite

She walks away.

Girlish and glorious
laughter
floats
through air
like a kite on a string
that pulls
tautly slipping through tightened fingers,
burning a little,
and slicing through
if ever left unattended,

so preciously tensioned
against the cold
benumbing
wind.

Tears begin to flow
but I do not know . . .
my heart?
or the wind?
If my heart, then am I sad
to be here on the ground
or joyful
to be watching the kite
fly?

In answer, a quivering.

A wisp.

"She will not fall or float away while I hold her thus.
She will be beautiful for me."

Wondrous.

Where Did MY World Go Anyway

Very silently step by step
In the dark it slowly crept
Until one day, to my surprise
The world I knew, I could not recognize
Little bits first then big ole pieces
Before you are aware, the world you know ceases
Never did I gave it a single thought
A glimpse of the end was all I caught
I took it for granted; am I to blame
Thought it would always stay the same
Eventually I decided to join in
With feet first, I jumped in the din
Kill the cops; behead the innocent
Persecute the holy, pay up for the indolent
None of these things sounded right to me
I found, I tried, I could not be
What can be done; I do not know
But where it is heading, I cannot go

Winter

When snow starts falling in Canada
We know winter games shall begin.
Do we just sit around fireplaces?
No, that would be a sin.
Snowball fights daily in our schoolyards,
Till the bell calls them in.

Rosie red cheeks on children,
Mittens with scarf’s and hats,
Snowmen in every front yard,
Put away are the bats.
Indoors a haven for cats.

Ski’s out and waxed,
Skates sharp as knives,
Skating rinks are full
Of children, husband, wives.

Tobogganing so exiting,
Curling extremely fun,
Hockey, number one.

Cold feet,
Hot chocolate.

Winter.

Powerless

I look for your magic in the moonlight
Listening for the secrets you will tell
I wish for you to be my dream tonight

I do not know if it is wrong or right
You leave me powerless under your spell
I look for your magic in the moonlight

Take control of me I do not wish to fight
You even mesmorize me with your smell
I wish for you to be my dream tonight

I wish to fly on your string like a kite
Tethered to you I am secure and well
I look for your magic in the moonlight

So I travel with you into the night
Nothing compares to the stories you tell
I wish for you to be my dream tonight

You my lover with your eyes shining bright
You lifted me up whenever I fell
I look for your magic in the moonlight
I wish for you to be my dream tonight

((RIDDLES-FIDDLES-DIDDLES ))

My towel is made of silk
That does not make sense at all
I can drink bitter sour milk
Once again no sense at all

My busted line holds a stronghold
Confuse are we
A thieve breaks and leaves me gold
Leaving my thinking incomplete ???

In my dream he cut my head
puzzled ???
My dreams have a path of a flowerbed
Still puzzled ???

White winter shelter when it comes to snow
a riddle, a riddle
Black the night all over covered by coal
this I do not know

I walk and I have no feet
show me!
I speak and I have no mouth
How?

a breathing exercise, wrong as it went
misunderstood
the stick walking got bent
understanding this a bit

My boat is flipped upside right at the end of all weathers
impossible
The grave is empty with dirt, full of feathers
wise not to ask

((Last but not least))

The grandmother is tall
The mother came short
The father is black to recall
Some white child of sort
Why the Mexican???

Four Hours of Eternity - 3

I woke to the sound of sizzling bacon, the aroma of fresh baked Muffins and my Beautiful Lenore in her bright green Teddy. "Nubbies", I said, "what time is it." Lenore said" for You it is 3:30P.M., June 27th, 2013. You are in the O.R. at Dartmouth Hospital. For me it is time to bring YOU to Eternity for a short time."What are You talking about; Baby." I died last night before we had time to go to the Bridal Suite. I do not want You to go through that pain again. Please come with me to the railing on the starboard side of the ship."Below the shuffle board deck?""Nubbies, just
trust me." As we walked outside, I noticed there was no air,no breeze, no sea lapping against the side of the boat, the sun seemed pasted in the sky. Where is Mom and Dad;where's my Ma, Where is everybody? Harry we are frozen in time, for last night and today; never happened for you. I asked the Lord to give us this time together. I was 3 months pregnant when I said "I DO" I want you to see JoAnne Naomi Grow up. Now
Full Moonlight Stand on the railing with me and when I say 3; Jump. 1, 2, 3. You would think we would plummet into the Caribbean Sea, but we splashed into the Full Moon. The sun was warm, the birds sat on my shoulders, singing a song of Life Forever. The Peace, Serenity and Tranquility was unearthly. I then saw GOD and the Son of Salvation hugged me and in a Mezmerizing Voice said Welcome Home.
                                   To be Continued
I want to apologize to those of YOU who are punctuationally bound to Poetry I do not know how to punctuate people talking. I know I'm suppose to use "" marks Sorry I LOVE YOU ALWAYS and FOREVER YOUR Liege...Harry

Harmony Through Love

We haven’t been formally acquainted
Though your words now travel in me
A picture of harmony you’ve painted
Love truest, in the very highest degree

Trouble in the midst, but don’t stress
Look into the windows of the soul
Therein you’ll find your happiness
Where two parts become a whole

Partake of this newfound pleasure
Two rivers now flowing into one
The joy contained has no measure
Warmth radiating like rays of sun

On this road of destiny or now call it fate
To encounter true love, it’s never too late

Based on In Deepened Harmony by Nette Onclaud

I do not know you, but your friends desire you back. You must truly be a light and inspiration to them.
