Poem
ALWAYS MOTHERS DAY
I have borrowed the first line of this piece from the"unknown scribe" , which I
read many years ago.... The rest is for ALL the great mothers who are SOUPER.
Who took me from my cosy cot
And sat me on an ice cold pot .
To make me pee ,when I could not.......... My mother
Who fed me from the very start
With bosomed milk , straight from the heart
Then burped me, 'till I'd belch and fart...... My mother
Who warmed me from the Winter breeze
Dried the blood from my skinned knees
But told me "fibs" 'bout birds'n bees..........My mother
Who healed me when I had a chill
And nursery rhymed me Jack and Jill
But lied to Dad , about being on the pill...... My mother
Who coaxed me past the school day bell
Smiled and said .. all would be well
But then went home and cried like Hell.......My mother
Who was protector from life's curse
Was doctor , dentist , priest and nurse
Friendly Bank ,with open purse...................My mother
Who lies beneath this cold grey stone
In peace ,at last , and all alone
The first true love that I had known.................. Mam

Poem
Sweet Lady
In the drawer
Behind all the white t-shirts
Packed away in the corner where
It is safe, I keep you.
You are hidden
No one knows you're there,
Except me.
I take you out to see your
Smiling yet depressed face.
I realize the trouble you went through
Just to make sure I live a better life
Than you did.
Here you hold your baby one last time
Before sending him off to a
Life without poverty.
He doesn't say goodbye because
He is so small and innocent.
You give him a little kiss and say
Goodbye my sweet child.
So I thank you
Sweet, sweet, lady.
I'll put you back
In that safe little place,
So that when the time comes
For me to meet you,
I will find you before
You find me.

Poem
Kiss The Sky
Dropped some purple haze with Jimi -
we created castles out of polished beach glass,
then we fused with acid-laced clouds.
Kissed the sky
so high.
Jimi started bawling,
his torrential tears washed us down and out to sea.
Each drop of water became a pixel,
until reality morphed into a painting of musical notes,
and the music transformed back into a fresh reality.
There wasn't any more doubt
whether we were experienced now -- and how.
The tide washed us up into heavy crosstown traffic.
Jimi wandered down Voodoo Blvd,
I became a hoodoo child
gobbling up sugar cubes filled with liquid sunshine.
I watched the yellow cabs race by,
watched the heavy metal race by.
Jimi was jacked into electric ladyland,
his radiant smile, hiding pain
and covering other people's lies.
Even so, Jimi believed in his message,
sincerity set him apart from the crowd,
which is why he made sure
not to let his smile, wither and die.
But the more that his manager pushed,
the more that Jimi's pusher came....
Jimi was hypnotized by the flashbulbs of fame,
attempting to out-run a childhood filled with shame -
blowing out speaker stacks
with that twisted pedal magic,
spellbinding incantations
vibrated from his guitar,
making love to the sky with rainbow hues
of acid rock-induced rolling blues.
Jimi simply wanted someone to love him back
even half as much as he could,
for Jimi's love was honest and hard,
with wings waiting to be released
into a world not yet ready to be fully free.
Kissed the sky.
Kiss the sky
so high.

Poem
Thanking a Hero
How can I thank you for saving our lives?
Because of you my whole family survives
My pups and I were surrounded by smoke
As you rushed through the door, we heard you choke
The flames you doused after pulling us out
My gratitude I offer, snout to snout
I see you have burn marks behind your cheek
I, too, have scars on my black coat once sleek
And as I gaze into your bright blue eyes
I’ve seen you before, I now realize
We’d been in front of the World Trade Center
My owner and I watched as you entered
A hero in every sense of the word
Your safety for others always deferred
And to think you’d risk your life once again
When fire victims were not even human

Poem
I'm Sorry
I’m sorry for the flowers that I always sent
Being a nuisance was never my intent
I apologize for all the mushy letters
I thought with you, I would do better
I just wanted to show you how I feel
To show you that love is something real
I was simply amazed by the beauty of your eyes
All they ever did was remind me of a sunrise
Your smile always had me in awe
It was the most beautiful thing I ever saw
The problem is I always thought with my heart
Instead of letting my head take a part
My heart would always tell me what to do
When my head would say, “son have you no clue?”
I understand that love is not your thing
Which is why I always gave you a candy ring
One thing that I do realize is this
You always loved me, but just with a love that does not exist
This is why I want to thank you
Because you inspire me to do what I do

My Chair of Support
My favourite chair
Said to me one night
Hey! Highlander
What you going to write
Is it going to be a fantasy
A Haiku or a Senyru
What ever comes from your thoughts
It's from the inner you
I have supported and rested
While you have written your writes
From many an afternoon
Into the early morning light
You never get frustrated
You just sit and ponder
For you know there are words
They are just out yonder
This partnership we have
Will remain as close as ever
Until the end of our days
Will be the time to sever
We will continue to be
One and the same
I to support you
With poetry your aim
My entry into Matt Caliri's contest " Speak chair! Speak! "

Poem
a Friend to the Wind even now
On a leaf I would write you a letter
and mail it into the wind
that's the chance I had in finding ,
my once in a lifetime friend.
But it landed right there beside you,
tangled in threads of your shawl,
with only your heartstrings to guide you,
you found me where dying dreams fall.
The Gypsy wind whispers a reason,
the where and the why and the how,
but I will remember that season........
I'm a friend to the wind
even now.

Freedom's Voice (For our Troops)
We hear your voice across this nation
We send our love and admiration
Now standing in awe of what you do
We dedicate this day to you.
On nine eleven our world was torn
Only to rise, our strength reborn
An end to terror our only choice
And you became freedom's voice
Our country will not be intimidated
Terrorists will be eradicated
We stand behind you until the day
When you come home to the USA.
They destroyed two buildings side by side
They will never destroy American Pride
We the people, with our hearts we say
To our troops, Happy Valentine's Day.

Poem
But For You
But For You
You tagged me
And said such nice things
I’m at a loss for words
Perhaps I need to call for help
Won’t you help me choose
Joseph S., Carol B., Tami M., Stella S.,
Mike J., Vince S., Stacy R., Lainie G.
Maggie O., Lynn M .and Michaela P.
Who, oh who should it be?
I know! I know the perfect selection
Won’t you all join with me,
I introduce to you my Friends
Our very own ' Poetrysoup Origination.'
For without them we might never have met.
So while they take the stage
Let’s all give them a hand, and say
“Our thanks to you and God Bless.”
