A Portrait of A Pastor

a portrait is a picture or a likeness of an object, person or place
a rendering, a representation of something in all of its grace
but a portrait of a Pastor is more than just a facade
it's not an image of what man thinks but a reflection of God

people come with their own agendas about what a Pastor should portray
but it's not his clothes nor his cars it's the message from God he conveys
a Pastor should be pictured as a faithful speaker who reveals the truth in his speech
an under shephard of our Lord Christ and it's the Gospel that he'll preach
a Pastor should be drawn as a mentor to his members and circumspect in his behavior
a prayer partner in conjunction with the Holy Spirit and Jesus our Savior
a Pastor should be an image of one who comforts all in their times of need
a teacher of the Gospel who in his flock tries to plant God's righteous seeds
a delineation of an obedient servant leader who stands firmly on God's Holy word
and he should not be the subject of gossip nor the pettiness of this world

a portrait of a Pastor should be a comment on his spiritual calling
an anointed man whom God will use to catch us when we've fallen
a portrait of a Pastor should be an exhibit of compassion, wisdom and respect
a display of leadership, kindness, humility and intellect
it should be a picture of a potter who tries to mold us into godly shape
a silhouette of a counselor who doesn't judge but advises when we make mistakes
a portrait of a Pastor should be a reflection of the image of our Lord Christ
a man who will always allow the Holy Spirit of God guide and rule his life

two peas in a pod: tribute to Pastor and Mrs. Arlee Griffin

you met each other at turning points in your lives
many would call that destiny
you'd found out you both had so much in common
you then entered into matrimony
you were both from modest means
but the most important thing
is that you both had a shared love for God
on one accord like two peas in a pod

after leaving college you both went to work
an assumed leadership in a southern baptist church
but that was not the end of the story
because for you both continued to God the glory
one day you were blessed with a cute little baby
you called her Angel for she was a perfect little lady
then the Lord told you to pick up your staff and rod
for He had a new mission for His two peas in a pod

God sent you a vision He sent you a dream
you then received a request from a church named Berean
you were compelled to venture forth
the voice of the Lord told you both to go north
and upon following God's appointing
you both received another blessed anointing
the Lord gifted you with another precious baby girl
whom you proceeded to name Ariel
and now with your family situation complete
there would be other challenges for you both to meet
and as long as you both continue to honor and love the Lord God
He will be the strongest vine for His two peas in a pod

I Was Talking To a Pastor The Other Day

I Was Talking To A Pastor The Other Day…

I was talking to a pastor the other day…
And was listening to what he had to say…

We were talking about church and other things.
Most important was sin and the pain it brings!

When I was younger, we would have an altar call.
But many today don’t think it’s worth it all!

This pastor talked about how our culture has changed.
Having an altar service now seems quite “strange.”

I remember when we used to cry and weep out loud.
We weren’t concerned about the crowd.

He mentioned how hard it is to preach the truth.
Many get offended and get quite rude!

I could tell this pastor shared from his heart!
He shared his passion for God right from the start!

But in spite of his many Godly intentions.
People need to want a Godly direction!

There’s an important truth we need to remember.
Following Christ is more than being a church member!

We must serve God with all of our heart and mind!
May there be a love for Jesus that HE can find!

May we serve God with all of our soul!
Allowing his love to make us complete and whole!

May we allow God’s word to bring repentance within!
And truly know what it means
 to be BORN AGAIN!

An Old Fashioned Pastor

An Old Fashioned Pastor... I once had a pastor who preached on holiness and sin. And preached on what it means to be born again. He had a deep conviction and passion in his voice. Whether you came next Sunday-- This was your choice! His number one goal and deep ambition. Was to preach God's word with a deep conviction. A conviction of God's power in redeeeming man's soul. And of a saviour's blood that can make you whole. I'm thankful of the memories I have of him today. Even though he preached in an "old fashioned way." I wish more pastors would preach like this man did. Who could preach and be a Godly example in how they live. What has happened to our nation's Godly leaders? Where are the the Holy Ghost' inspired preachers? Have many of them compromised in what they preach? A way of righteous living-- do any of them teach? Perhaps the way I believe is "old fashioned" to many folks. I've heard the criticism, laughter and the jokes. I'm going to seek God and listen to his voice. Whom you listen to for Godly instruction... it's your choice! Whatever your pastor says. is right or wrong... God's word in your heart must certainly belong! Living for Jesus 100% may be an old fashioned way of living. But it's his life for mine... is what he is giving! By Jim Pemberton

An Under Shepherd: Tribute to Pastor Arlee Griffin Jr.

Pastor, you're an under shepherd who has been entrusted to do God's work
you're never overbearing nor quick tempered nor do you have any quirks
you hold firmly to the trustworthy message that the Son of Man did convey
you're a spirit-filled righteous man, a disciple and teacher of God's ways

you teach and preach the sound doctrine that is the Holy Lord's
you're temperate and respectful with a Christ-like love for all in accord
you're self-assured and humble and your sermons are from the heart
you've given us insightful examples of how to live spiritually smart

you've told us it might be our attitudes and we probably need a makeover
you've been to us a living example in how to let God take over
you're an under shepherd, one of the Lord's earthly rep
you're an under shepherd, a follower in His Son's steps
you're an under shepherd, an agent of the living Christ
you're our under shepherd, Pastor Griffin
and we are blessed to have you in our lives

YOU PREACHED: A Tribute to Pastor Arlee Griffith Jr.

you preached to us that the way to achieve an ultimate makeover
is to concede control to God and let the Holy Spirit takeover
you preached to us that we need to take up our towel of service
and then realize and utilize our God given purpose
you preached to us in the year of 2005
that we are all blessed to even be alive
you preached to us in the year of 2006
that we need to study the word of God to get our spiritual fix
you preached to us in the year of 2007
that there's a happy hour awaiting us up in heaven
you preached to us on how we can make 2008 great
is by getting our relationship with the Lord God straight
you told us we need to do more than just go wishing
but to go out and make disciples by going soul fishing
you told us we need to hear a word from our sponsor, Jesus Christ
and then stay tuned to His channel until we get it right
you told us that whether wise or otherwise
we need to stay focused on God's eternal prize
and when you get into your pastoral groove
your words and message make our spirits move
and when you ask to speak for a few minutes more
believe nobody is making a move towards the chapel doors
to an anointed man of God, Pastor Griffith I thank your grandmother today
for handing God her healing hands that brought you to this day
so congratulations and happy anniversary to you and the first family
for 19 years of leadership and preaching with God's authority

What Does The Word Pastor Mean To You

Is he just somebody you go to Church on Sunday to listen to?
and sit on that pew and wonder if he is ever going to get through
is he someone you would call if you or your Family got sick?
then it is please help Pastor please come quick
How about about the Pastor and what he needs from you
surely there is more to coming to Church than just to warm the pew
Pastor's have needs just like you and me
they need alot of encouragement, can't you see?
sometimes they are so tired they don't knw what to do
then you call for his help and he comes and Prays for you
I've seen our Pastor so sick he could hardly stand
yet he was at the pulpit with his Bible in his hand
I try to do all I can to make things in Church better
whether it is paying my tithes;sorting food or reading my Missioary letter
you say I can't do this or I cant do that
a baseball player can never make a home run if he doesn't swing the bat
so why not do your part whether it be in the nursery or in Sunday School?
you know your help is needed don't be stubborn like a mule
If you wonder why you aren't getting blessed like you think you should
get up and start doing God's will don't sit there like a piece of wood

Look To Jesus Not The Pastor

It seems like many in churches
 are “out of touch…”
Depending on their pastors
 “way too much!”

Spiritual warfare they don’t comprehend…
So many being burdened
with so much sin!

Each Sunday, as they hear
 the pastor’s voice.
They trust him to always make “God’s choice.”

Trusting their denomination, they think they’re “wise.”
Looking to what is appealing
 to their eyes.

Keeping busy and doing the “Sunday thing.”
Not realizing the emptiness this can bring!

Jesus must be the focus of our love and attention…
It must be his word that is
our source of direction!

We can’t just base our lives on a Sunday sermon.
It’s our heavenly father we
must always be serving!

Our pastor cannot live the life we ought to live!
A dedicated life to Christ
 we must daily give!

May you sacrifice your life for Jesus…
 Your king!
He is our savior and redeemer!
Our everything!

My Friend, My Brother, My Pastor

You are awesome in our eyes -
Friend whose love I realize
Extends to depths of oceans
Heights far beyond our notions
Breadths of reach from Mt. to beach
Limits endless; faith to teach.

We are awesome in your eyes -
Ever love, never dispise.
You're always cheering for us.
We hear your voice in chorus.

He is awesome in your eyes -
Love reflected, not disguised.
Caring, tender, and so wise.
He is God; You're in His eyes.
