As Autumn's Breeze

Autumn drapes her lacey hoarfrost
Upon the vanishing vivid leaves of
Colored trees, upon the fences and fields
Gracing them with her demure beauty.

With her breathy chill animals prepare
For Jack Frost's stealthy fall arrival.
When his first flakes begin to fall...
Oh the beauty of it all makes one sigh.

Glorious winter twirls her pristine skirt
And naked trees welcome her white layers.
When snow has covered all the grounds
And crystals in ice cycles hang from eave's

It is winter who has been crowned Queen.
Without her blizzard bringing the freeze
No ice skating fun for eager little ones,
Or romantic skating on the moonlit lake.

There's sleigh rides in the snow as children
Show adults how much fun it can be
To build a much loved snowman, as they
Recall the glory of it all from younger years.

A Walk In Winter

Twin, silver cathedral bells, sway and chime.
As every note peals out, clear and sublime.

No winds blow through the sky, this silent night.
The peaceful heavens, filled with a celestial light.

Arm in arm, down the icy lane we do walk.
Heart to heart, our souls they seem to talk.

A pair of happy cardinals, one red, one gold.
Go bobbing through the snow, so white, so cold.

Along the hillside, stands rows of frosted pine.
The fields, blanketed in diamonds, a vision divine.

Couples, young and old, seated in horse-drawn sleighs.
Making new memories, and reminiscing their by-gone days.

Nestled so close together, like two turtledoves.
All bundled up, with warm scarves and gloves.

Amongst white winter lands, we two do wander.
While our light hearts, are growing ever fonder.

- A Vision Through Snow Crystals -

A snowflake always spells unique in words
Frozen songs from heaven
Melting into the heart

Stunning winter kisses warm
My passion is deep,rooted
flowing through the heart

Rolling out a carpet of divine purity
What better way to rest easy
Soft white footprints remain

In the snow you’ve made
Where an angel dances
In a vision of beauty

Warmly upon the breath
Floating on the wave of love
Silver dancing ice breaks

This soul can now reach Heaven
I melt into your snowflake
A winter rose is born

Blown forever silken sparkles kiss
Into one beauty of a starlight vision
On me so deeply inside purity and happiness blooms

Skeletal trees stark and grey, bent over like old soldiers
Casting shadows in the low winter sun
Boughs groan with the weight of sparkling snow
Naked icy fingers beckon us in chilling wind
We trudge through mounds of glistening snow

Winter crept in secretly with a smile upon her face Dressing my garden silently with a veil of gossamer lace A snowflake falls onto my hand; I admire its exquisite form Its beauty is momentary as it melts on my skin so warm Small children have such fun as they frolic in the snow I see them playing happily, their cheeks have a rosy glow There are imprints of snow angels that the children love to make Children run inside for hot drinks and warm cookies that I bake Snowmen are built so skilfully - they seem to touch the sky Sadly they melt when the thaw arrives, small children often cry Trees shiver in the bitter winds; Jack Frost points his icy fingers Icicles sparkle on the trees, Jack’s chilly artwork lingers Snowdrops raise their sleepy heads and peer out from the snow Spring will soon be on her way and daffodils will be on show Couplet Time Contest Sponsored by Rick Parise 08~23~16

Diamonds in the Snow

A Diamond's Remnants beneath a full moon their kiss in winter’s first snow. . . her soft eyes glowing her delighted gasp as he opens the ring case. . . the night sky sparkles the months since she died he wakes sometimes to dreams of diamonds in her eyes in dementia’s fog the snow, the sky and her eyes. . . a diamond's remnants Written 12/28/13 by Andrea Dietrich (I am using the title Diamonds in the Snow to fulfill a rule of the contest, but the real title would be A Diamond's Remnants)

Melting tears of the moon is snow dust, frozen droplets
Turning into flakes of white icy lace, that cling to the baron
Limbs of the tree tops, for it is winters grace, a frozen
Kiss given unto autumns last sighs of farewell, until
The next seasons change takes place.
Softly floating wisps of thin frozen mists, shifting
Ever lightly, gracefully unto the winds, tenderly
Aloft, free falling paper thin crystals of ice,
Cascading downwards unto the frozen earth below.
Layers of delicate texturing of refineries elegance,
Transforms this landscape of falls color burst, into
A winter wonderland of frost and white icings
Gleaming brilliance.
A kingdom of flickering diamonds is show cased
Beneath the lunar shine, of the light hanging within
The heavens above, a glittering field of gems
Illuminated by the elliptical sphere, Called the moon.
In this picturesque display, the writer ponders
Humbly, to the wonders of nature’s masterful
Hands of creation, to be able to create such
Beauty on
this frozen canvas, and the poet
Is left in awes wake of hushed expression.

A crystal lattice so Devine
Slowly falling on earth supine
Surely we now must redefine
Our place in nature so sublime

Such elegant beauty a shrine
A crystal lattice so Devine
Each delicate flake is a sign
Slivers of heaven gods design

Ephemeral glory is thine
Fragile resplendence so benign
A crystal lattice so Devine
Fleeting splendour to death consign

Complex simplicity combine
Enchantment one cannot decline
Nor Michelangelo refine
A crystal lattice so Devine

Dedicated to my friend Mary Jo who so loves the snow.

Maples Crying

Many are the maples that encircle my home, my nest, my dwelling abode,
And in the dark of night they tap on my frosty windows, crying;
Past their deathly stance, a wintry scene,
Looking through their tangled limbs snow is falling, endlessly.
Everything in my world is icy white, sky and earth mingling,
Soon, I whisper to them, you will be wearing your emerald gowns;

Creaking and groaning they mumble in their frozen rest,
Reaching out gnarled fingers to me.
Yes, my dears, soon, so soon you will stand in resplendence,
Ice and snow will be replaced with fringes of delicate, filigree green;
Now rest, now sleep maples sweet,
Gather your memories of spring, summer and fall close and dream.

A Christmas Snow

Follow me and walk down an avenue of Firs To my Log Cabin you'll view, I'm sure you'll concur Overlooking Loch Ness, look in the fields you'll see A herd of beautiful Reindeer roaming so free But it's when you look around, my world glistens It started by walking to here, footsteps to listen Crunching, crunching, crunching, white virgin snow Where here it's normally dark, now it's all aglow As we turn the corner many colours in radiate Glistening amidst the white kaleidoscopic drape Then to the cabin we view, lanterns of every colour Hanging in joyful sway never outdoing each other As we draw nearer through the arched window I see So beautiful in adorn, a most lovely Christmas Tree Through the door we enter, Sleigh Bells in the Snow It's at this time of year, so many many smiles show .

The Evening Snow---Quatern

To watch snow tumble from the sky
on streets that clamor with unrest,
the eyes behold the mystery,
of nature at its very best.

I lift my eyes in evening air
to watch snow tumble from the sky
and marvel over nature, rare,
that hides each flaw to glorify.

As grumbling shoppers pass me by,
and traffic rumbles in a state,
to watch snow tumble from the sky
No time to awe, or slow the gait.

They cannot see beyond the cold,
or witness magic for the eye
But, I must stop, my breath's on hold
to watch snow tumble from the sky

Earth her cotton bra
Slip on, soft white, fallen clouds
Fresh milk of heaven

This is the undress
Of trees, rivers, homes and things
Time's skin, milky white

White as bones in light
The feathers of angels wings
Fruits upon the sight

Now the heavens flake
Petals cuddled on the ground
Crystal dust of winds

Scintillating snowflakes floating gently to the ground
Painting the landscape white, they don’t make a sound
Every single shimmering snowflake has a unique design
Catch them on your gloves and hands, they look so divine
Transforming our world to a winter wonderland
Aesthetically pleasing, our gardens look so grand
Children build huge snowmen; they have so much fun
Until the snow begins to melt beneath the winter sun
Lovely soft snowflakes swirling are a glorious sight
All around us our surroundings turn a wintry white
Real beauty captivates our eyes in our wonderful world

Stardust Artist

Virgin snow sparkles in the darkest hour
as stardust dances with celestial power.
Silently it rains upon mother earth
giving witness to such an idyllic birth.

A fawn and doe now break the glaze
like tiny spoons upon crème brulees.
Below Polaris they prance and snort,
for they seem to know the time is short.

For such a night is a rare event,
as blue light above is heaven sent.
Wondrous luminescent tranquility
trumps any earthly poet’s ability.

Now the first rays pierce the frigid night
and Orion’s bow soon fades to light.
White carpet dulls now without the luster
of a nocturnal painter, the starlight duster.

Whisking flakes fluttering as the icicles start to melt
I'll never forget how the accumulation of snow felt
Natural cool air underneath the wearing of gloves
Time for gramma's hot chololate that I've always loved
Equator shifts and brings forth a winter solstice
Roses are almost here and so are my blooming hostas

Set my clock ahead as we all lose an hour of sleep
Picturesque and perfect bouncing into Spring with a leap
Radiant sun peaks through and shines for more hours
Inches of rain showers nourishing my precious flowers
Navy beans, chives and tomatoes grow with fascination
Green peas and peppers growing within my vegetation

From snowmen to butterflies, two mysteries of the natured mother, and icicles melting into fresh topiary creating a masterpiece, with day lilies, tulips and daffodils in my garden covered, I let them grow, then cut them fresh making a splendid centerpiece. icicles melting sprinkles of April showers gorgeous scenery ~Date Written : March 26, 2016~

Winter Bound

            Winter Bound

Hindered by depth and breadth of winter
Blocked doors and windows on the cabin cliff remote
Imprisoned by three feet of snow and all those inches
Piling up outside, no where to go
Pines cling to memory of icicles below the tundra line
Like all good trees they freeze but never die
Over sleeping kept me from hunting deer
The realization of how quickly drifts can rise
Shear numbers of snow flakes conspiring
Cruel nature with wind and sky to hold me in
Now stuck inside the simple shelter fixed
Riffle and ammo sitting useless by the common fire place
No chasing prey this season, no reason to shoot the snow
It would only blow around and settle somewhere else
Winter bound, oats are my only sustenance, companion
Along with tea and lemon, not exactly the best of company
But will see me through, till things turn about
Closed in times advance
I become a captive audience of one
The only show in town watched now in wonder
On snowy mountain counting down the hours

The Chill Of Winter's Breath By Veronique Raven

Against the velvet canvas of night downy snow falls all around me,
Silence deafening, falling upon my ears in this winter wonderland I see.
The chill of winters' breath places its kiss upon Rose petal skin so light,
Whilst I stand 'neath tiny flakes and behold this magnificent sight.
I adore the silence of this winter wonderland that only my Soul does know,
As I walk by crystal streams that flow dotted white with cottony snow.
Oh the Heavenly peace that encompasses my Soul this wintry night,
As the snow glistens and sparkles under the soft glow of moonlight.
I stand awestruck as I gaze upon snow covered emerald pine,
Dusted in winters' frosty touch so Heavenly sublime.
God placed a Love of winters' beauty within my lil' ol' country heart,
Soft memories of this winter wonderland from my mind will never part.

Against the pale October Moon, a lone howling cuts
Through the chill of the winter’s night, gleaming yellow
Green eyes flash in the forests wilderness wild.
Sleek mystic swift of feet, white powder chameleons,
Living by the creed of basic instinctual desire to survive,
In this harsh environment of the Rocky Mountains.
By the flight of the morning blue jay, spooked from his
Perches vantage point on high, the pack hunts in the
Deep valleys thickening glen.
Snow wolves on the prowl, seeking freedoms liberation
By tooth and claw, but these are beasts of the free spirit,
Out laws nomads, wondering where the restless heart so
Leads them.
Beguiling creatures of beauty, representing the raw
Force of power of the untamed soul, roughed individuals,
Stalkers of the ice and snow.
Spiritual brethren to the tribal Indians are these
Sacred guardians of the great spirits creation, darned
With mutual respect and admiration honor, let them
Roam freedom’s path forever.
Symbolic warriors under the skin and fur, does the animal
Run beside the human hidden within the shadow realm of realism.
Echoing in the distance, with a chilling presence that
Crawls up the neck bone of mankind, announcing,
Erriely, of the hunger driving them in silence.
Nature’s selectors, weaving the weak from the strong,
Legacies ancestral brave, soldiers of canines pack,
Living on the edge of extinction mighty wrath.
But looking into the eyes of the beast, one can only
See the beauty of a wild creature, whom wishes to remain
As he was born to be, simply put FREE!!

Season's Round

Summer sunshine in her hair
The Autumn moon in her eyes
Winter’s promise buried there
Hints of Spring therein lies

The Autumn moon in her eyes
Winter’s snow upon her skin
The seeds of Spring wait to rise
To field the Summer once again

Winter’s snow upon her skin
Spring flowers to grace her face
Summer’s vow to come again
Until Autumn takes its place

Spring flowers to grace her face
Summer’s sunshine in her hair
Autumn hints leave bare a trace
That Winter’s cold will follow there

Wild Western Blizzard

What could I really know of the breaks
                                                                in the land
huge canyons bleeding red cut by the wind
with the snow swirling around our tires
barns upright
and fallen to a tumble like icebergs
windshield riming over with a crust of ice
                        we scrape madly inside
                              trying to keep cold out
speed slowing
slowing to a crawl
always on the lookout
outside line appearing and gone,
                                                                    no worries about
cattle led inside to safety to be watered and fed
but what of us?
Will we be trapped clutching a candle
                             wanting a chocolate bar,
                                 waiting for a tractor?
and all the flat seeming land seems to have ditches
and roof pitches and rushing trees, and a swirl
                         of slumbering snow
to lumber down in drifts and piles
no fire would ever warm us
                                                                temperature dropping
until finally we see it shining in the dark
                                          a lantern at a farm
a fleet of snow mobiles to greet us
                                                                   scurry is off
                             before our ears turn blue,
                                would they fall off?
Luckily, not tonight, not in this blizzard,
                                                                      we have home.

Circ’ling down in brilliant whiteness,
Sett’ling here upon the ground;
Blowing now about the bushes,
Making patterns straight and round.

Perfect beauty, perfect whiteness
Now assails my clouded sight;
Spread unbroken o’er the mountains,
Sparkling brightly in the light.

Microscopic detailed order;
No two flakes were e’re the same:
All designed in sep’rate order;
Who this wondrous tho’t can frame?

Who decreed this awesome order,
Who these details tho’t and planned?
Who made clouds to grace the heavens,
Spread the snowflakes with His hand?

Jesus Christ and God the Father,
And the Spirit, three in one,
Planned and formed, decreed and ordered,
Till this blessed deed was done.
