Among Butterflies Sought

Is This Nature's Glory As a quarry? Alone and at peace A life, a new lease I pull up a piece of land Take a little time to mend This rainforest trembles An open window in shambles Sitting on my own made porch I fire up a configured torch  Then Lay under, should I say What is like a porch light ray And I wait for that one moth Amongst butterflies sought An unwanted reject Like me ready to eject Take me now in this lush With the roar of death; a hush And I will go, amongst this gift Gods Eden unquestioned; my lift My life to stop the bleeding of the land So I protect this marvel, hold her hand Never can't So I chant Let me meld Forest held Me alone a window into the future slightly opened We are all just a moth drawn to a porch light penned  13~11~2014 Sponsor : craig cornish Contest Name : Chopped II ********************************************************* I believe this falls within the 10 to 20 line loose suggestion. This is usually done by the sponsor because it would be difficult to read 35 epic poems and rate them. Because I wanted to create a shape if you count lines as they line up I have more then 20. If I realigned them I would have much less than 20. I believe I stayed within the spirit of the rules. However that is and should be in the hands of the sponsor. I worked very hard towrite this piece for this contest. I loved the process. I have already accomplished everything I wanted to do with this write. I watch the show Chopped all the time. The idea is to be creative with the ingredients. If there is a steak in the basket you better not just cook a steak. The point of the show is using the ingredients creatively never do the obvious. I am happy to have written this piece inspired by the contest. So thank you Craig because I am proud of this write. However below is the ten to twenty line alternative in case you would rather judge it. ********************************************************** Chopped Too - A Rainforest This rainforest trembles An open window in shambles Sitting on my own made porch I fire up a configured torch  Then Lay under, should I say What is like a porch light ray And I wait for that one moth Amongst butterflies sought An unwanted reject Like me ready to eject Take me now in this lush With the roar of death; a hush And I will go, amongst this gift Gods Eden unquestioned; my lift My life to stop the bleeding of the land So I protect this marvel, hold her hand Me alone a window into the future slightly opened We are all just a moth drawn to a porch light penned  13~11~2014 Sponsor : craig cornish Contest Name : Chopped II

Shadow to Shadow

Shadow to shadow, shade to shade
In youth the Eden where you played
was left bereft, destroyed, decayed,
by trusts malignant masquerade

Shadow to shadow, shade to shade
Sweet grass dies in your fallow glade
as opportunist needs invade
and bleed the life from every blade

Shadow to shadow, shade to shade
First, victims surging song is brayed,
then dirges of the helpless fade
and urges pant their serenade

Shadow to shadow, shade to shade
Agendas you've arranged cascade
to keep your motives undisplayed
and cover cracks in your charade

Shadow to shadow, shade to shade
You've planted with your soiled spade
slick seeds of doubt in hopes that they'd
conceal the putrid plots you've laid

Shadow to shadow, shade to shade
Your blighted past will be replayed
and every bloom on whom you've preyed
must lie now in the beds you've made

In Negative Light

In the eggshell of twilight, Shadows outdistance the sun, Sharpening peaks and hallows, Honed against the sword of light. Deep in the brow of the night, I stand against the moonrise, Encrypted by the silence

Circles of slumber

The amaryllis yawns in bed of white
The fall of day paints shadows on the rose
Each flower is a ward of solemn night
Their gentle sleep upon which none impose

Beyond the halls and down the drowsy stair
Into the hallowed stillness of the lake
Illuminating every pebble there
The moon believes that no one is awake

Yet bittern watches all with eyes of gold
Alighted new in absence of the light
And with his lusty call so clear and bold
He breaks the quietude and then takes flight

A ripple in the water seeks the shore
It meets the rocks and ripples there no more

New Road

In a new road,
Rain will fall,
Wind may blow,
Swifting our woe.

The road forever on and on,
Many paths to choose,
Many paths to take,
Home behind,
World ahead...

Through the shadows,
Through the night,
Clouds going by,
There we will lie,
Very deep,
Seeing shivered land,
Seeing the dead seas...

Through the edge,
Miles to go,
Singing by,
Darkness rising,
Vanishing light,
Hollow flourishing,
Going by,
World ahead,
Home behind...

Rain may fall,
Through the nightfall,
Through the twilight,
Through the dusk,
Through the dawn,
Beyond mountains,
Beyond stones,
Standing strong,
Wandering lost,
World ahead,
Home behind,
Paths on and on,
'Till the road comes along...

Moments In Time

The sweetest sounds of burning trees
A gentle stroking in the breeze
The calm has lasted past the storm
Cloudy visions, Satan’s roar
Too many sights have passed my way
A time found only in the haze
The softest screams are running bare
My aching bones creak as I stare

You walk a distance towards me
The fall’s eternal, can’t you see?
I’m a memory in your heart
I whisper to you in the dark

The battle’s started at the end
No one is coming to repent
The sinners grab their wine from prey
No judgment calling here to stay
The sport is reckless to be told
The one is laughing at his souls
It falters nowhere to be sure
The power grows forevermore
Like a spirit in the wind
I have no say in where you’ve been
But cross the line to come to me
And pay the price for ecstasy

You walk a distance towards me
The fall’s eternal, can’t you see?
I’m a memory in your heart
I whisper to you in the dark.

A Soul Awakened

She is the muse to her own sorrow; She is the digger of her grave. She is the painter of her ocean view and every fatal wave. She is the shadow of her Father; She is the darkness in your sight. She is the night without the stars surrounding pale moonlight. She is the music with no words; She is sweet love without the reason. She is your dreamer with submission cold by warmth with every season. She is your pet with cold intentions; She is your baby scared and shaken. She is the bold and pure- the lost and found, She is a soul awakened.

Jungle by night 1

Jungle by night

In the far jungle
The big bear of darkness lay
Crouched all night on leafy ground.

It glared through eyes of
Oil lamps of far away huts.
When dawn came, it slunk away.

Tomorrow

The year is grey and cold,
And we bid the winter go;
So all the dark and weary world,
Will be purged of blowing snow.

Tomorrow cry the branches,
From out of their sad heart;
My closed buds will open,
With green leaves all apart.

Tomorrow sings the robin,
To pipe her song again;
Her nest filled with eggs,
Warmed in spring's soft rain.

Tomorrow bleats the sheep,
My little lambs will run;
Playing in the meadow,
Beneath the golden sun.

We too wait for tomorrow,
That spring should come to be;
For Him to weave the threads,
Of life's dark destiny.

So all the hearts grown cold,
From life's cruel time and pain;
May bloom all fresh and green,
In Springtime's soft cool rain.

For all the hollow promises,
Of sad and empty years;
Are bringing back to tomorrow's
Joy with no more tears.

A World of Color

My world is painted in colors bright,
Vibrant hues from dark to light.
My skies are blue, as blue can be,
With fluffy white clouds floating lazily.

The dawn arrives in a golden glow,
A glorious awakening, a wondrous show.
And with the dusk, the day's demise,
Red velvet melds with purple skies.

Shades of green grow all around;
Emerald, olive, sage abound.
From forest dark to pale grass green,
Amazing landscape can be seen.

A floral palette paints the view,
With vivid colors of rainbow hue.
Purples, pinks, yellows, reds,
Oranges, blues fill my beds.

My world is never just black and white.
It's filled with color day and night.
And I am thankful to God above,
For creating these beautiful colors I love.

The storm

Clouds are gathering for tomorrow's storm,
ground beneath the land is cooling down,
flames of old love are dwindling,
if you want me, you need to tell me now,
for tomorrow I will be gone,
I might splash as a droplet,
splatter into pieces far,
away from the ocean.
Clouds are gathering for tomorrow's storm,
mountains around are calling home,
winds surrounding are calming down,
hail from heaven like falling angels
from beyond the sky,
smash into the rocks I climb,
I might scatter into broken shards,
Clouds are gathering for tomorrow's storm,
trees clutching the earth are shaking,
sky is roaring among the gods,
thundering loud is the Zeus's war cry,
as he shoots down his arrows down,
I might be struck by the lightening bolts,
my soul might leave my body alone.

Oggwool Fleece

In England’s pleasant pastures amid the free wild flowers
Lie pagan ways the wise ones do not mock
And one adept at harnessing these ancient rural powers
Was Oggwool Fleece, the black sheep of the flock

Oggwool was old, much older than the old oak it was said
Beneath whose boughs the dark sheep’s plans are sealed
‘Twas said the sheep had come back from the other side of dead
With the darkness in that corner of the field.

The farm hands better knew to venture in the oak’s strange shade
Or to the long grass that the darkness gripped
Where Oggwool lurked amid the spells and potions he had made
A sheep unshorn and magically undipped.

Not limited by four hooves in working his deft skill
Unhindered in ambitious sheepish plans
Harnessing the dark elves to do his dark sheep will
Dexterously with little dark elf hands.

From that darkened corner of that English country field
His influence extends itself outside
His arcane woolly web through which his mystic powers wield
Reaching parts and persons spread worldwide

He has extensive vineyards in Italy and Spain,
He has mining operations in Peru
He owns a flock of ostriches down in the Ukraine
(Although he never quite intended to)

He’s engineering world events on scales beyond the ken
He has his hooves in business of all kinds
He interferes remorselessly in world affairs of men
With night-time thoughts drip-fed to human minds

Little green men fly through space in saucers flat and round
On interstellar missions without cease
But on their furthest journey yet, their enterprise is bound
To the ever growing plans of Oggwool Fleece

The politicians spin their words and armies shoulder arms
And yet do not beyond their small acts see
But Oggwool Fleece with thistle skills and other sheepwise charms
Is planning how to rule a galaxy!

Light On the Devil's Chord - Day 26

From that day on and forward,
I began to see the wretchedness my God had warned me of
He cursed the Lord wholeheartedly, for inflicting yet another agony on him,
In his well he called The Prison of Plot,
He spat the grounds and laughed at random intervals,
Then the next moment, screaming at the top of his lungs in sheer madness
Dragging his face on the walls of the well, he gurgled, and growled,
He bared his teeth at his gargoyles,
And grinned the next moment,
So tickled by the fact that none knew his thoughts,
Simultaneously so angered that none could stand before him,
And claim they knew his inner commotions,
His secret knowledges, and his accelerating vastness of existence
And to exist in his presence!
To witness his every move,
Should bring one to incomprehensible awe
Perhaps he knew not at that moment that I recognized well his excruciating prides
And his fervent, wholly selfish frustrations. . . .

This was the devil I had thought I knew,
This thrashing beast, full of darkness and hatred,
Spitting obscenities at his minions,
Laughing at their impotence….
This was the devil I was sure I would find here….
Back then,
Suffering as I was
A pitiful thing
Afraid of the dark,
Hesitant of the light….

Cross-legged on the floor,
I lowered my head,
Deep in the recesses of my hopes
I could not bring myself to sing,
So I prayed ardently for joy to sprout,
Prayed for the secret strength I know existed,
Within me, and the Prince. . .
If not in him alone,
We together…

But his cause was not lost in my sight,
Nor in my bleeding heart,
No matter the ache of his hatred,
Or the burns of his insults against me

“I may be bound in the chains of your righteous God,” Muttered the mighty Devil,
Spitting violently on the steaming grounds,
“Though rest assured, I hear all, e’en your despondent thoughts….
Your restless fears….your doubt of yourself….birthed from the recalcitrant womb of evil,
I am not ashamed, oh Spirit, oh temptress, and you should not be either!”

“Please…”
The word fell from my mouth like a droplet of rain,
Evaporating to steam before hitting the ground

He laughed deep and darkly, locking eyes with me
“You will find no softness to either end of this sword,
Nor to the future you deny available to you,
Can you not see that you are here,
For one purpose, and one purpose only,
Not only to understand me—no it cannot be,
You wish to save me!!!”
He laughed louder, the well booming with his voice,
Running through me and surrounding me
“You wish to save me
From the decision etched in stone
Fire-searing, unmovable decisions
Vowed from the natures you dare to change!
You have come to change me—yet
Again, I only change you!
With the same idea of saving what you think you have lost!
I have not changed one bit,
Perhaps the snake hides its plot,
Perhaps the dragon possessively protects its plunder,
You are the only one changing before me
I just wait for you—for you to abandon reason,
To abandon thought, to let descend your wildest dream,
The very dream that brought you here to me
The very dream that lives in your incomparable mind….”

His words were laced with satirical ire,
And saturated in kaleidoscopic pains only one with access to light could witness

“You await the sound of my voice,” I began,
“You await the shape of my words,
Every vowel and every consonant,
So that you may tear it apart in your matchless claws.”
I spat the ground, incredulously at first, and then with joy at the look of shock in his eyes
My jaw tightened with conviction,
My heart flowed with perception

“I have changed you,
Do not try to lie to me, slippery beast,
Bash your head once more upon these pitiless walls,
Make your minions and gargoyles crackle and cringe at your fury,
Laugh and cry out in anguish,
Burn the daylight out of my sorrows,
Crawl upon me and singe the very vocals declaring the glory from up above,
In silence or in sound,
All glory is to spill on God!
The end is the end,
If you wish not to exist in the conclusion,
I will be not be desolate without you,
He grants peace and joy to those who serve Him
Can you not see this is not for you alone, oh wretched, confident dragon?
Can you not see this mercy and relief I offer you,
To fulfill my duties of Agape love?
I am not your Temptress, I am your benefactor,
Inspired by the Spirit to move you
If it is too late, than so be it!
Leave me with my God you hate till the days depart from us,
Till the moment I climb out of this well with HIM and not YOU,
A transformed being with a stronger conviction than ever
You cannot deny that mankind has changed you!
That the Spirit in me and of my God affects you,
That this light is around you
Just as this darkness is
If you cannot let the light in,
If you will not let it in,
You can never let me in…..”

He grimaced, the thought of me leaving the well fracturing his thoughts,
My words flowing like waters, not processing fully in him, but drowning in him
He was looking at something distant beyond me
But as I knew, very well,
He could not stop the fact that he heard every word,
And he could not change it,
He could not make it what he wanted,
He could think what he may,
But they were rightful words,
They were from my voice
And into his ears
That, in torture, always hear

Dark Cloud

Gray upon black,
billowing but dark,
like smoke suspended over a fire.
Just floating alone
in an empty sky
as I do so upon the beach;
watching the people go by,
leaving me to write my poems

Dark Vision

As the stars
begin
    to appear in
the night sky
   the snowfall
continues
   unique snow
crystals fall from
heaven
    We're happy
to watch the
   whiteness spread
over the land
    Taking a deep
breath of the
  night air
  we head homewards
Tomorrow it will
  be difficult
to get around
   But the
snow looks so pristine!
  The
trees are hung
with snow
   And so, we;ll
take in the sight
  of a world of
white

WOLF OF THE NORTH

Wolf of the north, I heard you howl
In the stillness of last night.
I heard you prowling around my door
On feet so soft and quiet.
Your frosty breath fell on my lawn
And turned the green to white.
Wolf of the north, I heard you howl
In the stillness of last night.

Wolf of the north, I heard you growl
In the midnight dark and deep.
The shutters trembled at your touch
And aroused me from my sleep.
How bitter are the winter nights
When through the land you creep.
Wolf of the north, I heard you growl
In the midnight dark and deep.

Wolf of the north, I know you lurk
Outside these sheltering walls.
I dread the chill of facing you
When daytime duty calls.
Your panting fogs the window panes
While swirling snowflakes fall.
Wolf of the north, I know you lurk
Outside these sheltering walls.

Dark Grey Skies

Thick rain soaked clouds came floating by on sullen grey skies
Branches swayed and leaves waved, tied
In unison with the whipping wind
The rains came soft and gentle ,one by one, floating
among an endless series of soft humid waves
Puffs of dust kick up as rain hits the ground ,
the enticing smell of the brown clean earth pervades all around
The ponds break into endless circles of tiny drops
Sliding down branches , dripping from leaves, running down the darkened bark, plopping
In the silent air ,Soaking the ground into soft muddy earth, healing cracks, soft like dew
the rains speak their true voice and intent without a clue
becoming pounding and insistent ,angry and relentless, as one by one they beat the ground
And the cycle comes full circle ,around and around

Cool air from atop the sky filters down through hot steamy mist
wind driven clouds form funny ominous shapes in the sky
Bending and twisting to keep up with their fierce and relentless brother
Throwing countless drops down onto the clean brown earth
The Angry winds and warm drops count their times to hit the ground
Covering forest and field alike taming the long forgotten dust
that became the earth following the season of drought
Lightning burns across the sky and crashes among the giant embers standing wet, black and gleaming
Stark and ancient they stand tall and straight , silhouetted against the angry sky
The rain comes in sheets of grey , pouring out of the heavens
In a thunderous wave that threatened to sweep clean the skies

New Paths

A new path is what we seek.
The surroundings are taking a peek,
Going through, very meek,
Seeing no bleaks,
Getting piqued,
While hearing creaks,
In the new paths that we seek...

The new path is what is found,
Going through forests bound,
Going through the path inbound,
With soothing and raging water sounds.
Walking confound,
Silence profounded,
Sight astounded,
Passed through burial grounds...

Seeking for another way around,
Noises resound,
Spirits surround,
The paths newfounded,
Our instincts compounded,
Followed by the hounds,
Echoes in ultrasounds,
Passed through mysterious breeding grounds...

Going to stamping grounds,
Trying to get off this ground,
With those burial mounds,
Death moving the wheels around,
Silhouettes running aground,
Trying to leave safe and sound,
Passing through some hunting grounds...

Seeking for common grounds,
The mistaken path redounded,
Regretful screams abound.
Plans propounded,
Though some are fouled,
Throughout the paths that were found...

However, most are lost and wounded,
Most tended to walk out,
Some minds and hearts full of doubts.
Hearing salvation shouts,
From all these new paths walked and found...

The Last Eclipse

Military and civilian linguists and intelligence analysts, my colleagues and I were monitoring the Balkans troubles, supporting our troops in theater 'down range'. We were working the 'Mids' shift from 11 pm till 7 am at Bad Aibling Station--formerly a military intelligence site. I had read that we were in the western European zone that would experience a total eclipse of the sun that morning. One of the other Serbo-Croatian linguists had a car on post. I voiced the thought "wouldn't it be cool if we drove out to Mount Wendelstein and saw the eclipse from up there?!". He and another agreed. After shift we drove to the base of the mountain, and decided to hike the trail to the top rather than pay to ride the cable car up. Many Bavarians had the same idea, and it was somewhat crowded on the summit. When the eclipse was finally full, it was like standing on shadowy clouds surrounded by a large ring of light--eery, bizarre, and colder than anticipated both due to the elevation and darkness. Two minutes and twenty-six seconds of totality. I had goose bumps for several reasons, and could understand why primitive man would have been so terrified of the experience. Returning back to base, we learned that it had been overcast down there; so local people only saw it get dark, but missed the actual eclipse. However, three Sergeants had been in the right place at the right time, to see the first total eclipse in Europe in forty years, and last one of the twentieth century....August 11th, 1999.

Field of despair

The barren land that has failed us

to give anything back all this time,

while we wet it with our blood and sweat

digging it with bare hands till the bell tolls,

telling us it's time to give up all our hopes

time to get back to the losers camp and mourn our destiny...

and then suddenly,

we realised we weren't farming the barren land

to grow our crops nor our dreams,

we were just digging our graves

alas,

the land shall take back all that it gives.

The Woods are Lovely, Dark and Deep

“The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
but I have promises to keep,
and miles to go before I sleep” (Robert Frost).

The woods know my secrets
For I open my heart
In this enclosed sanctuary of God
As folded branches draw my eyes
Upward, ever upward
Towards the emerald ceiling
With a skylight
From which streams
The light of heaven
Pure and sweet
On my face

The trees are my counselors
Sacred dispensers
Of the mysteries of God
Sentinels tall and majestic
Guarding my hushed sacred hours
Of contemplation and renewal
The would be silence
Sweetly disturbed
By the sounds of His creatures
Filling God’s outdoor sanctuary
With a heavenly hymn of praise

Each trail leads me deeper and deeper
For my heart longs to be
In the Holy of Holies
In the very presence of the Creator
On holy ground
Yes, Yes!
He is here
His presence
Envelopes me

After my communion
The closing benediction of sunlight
Guides me home
The thinning trees whisper
“Forget us not” stories to me
As I pass them by
Stories of long ago pilgrims
From another time
Yet one with me
The same
Pilgrims in search of sanctuary
A place of solace
A place of tenderness
A place of discovery
Where they come to learn
The miles left to go
Till journey’s end
When they must lie down
In well deserved sleep
Safe under the shadows
Of God’s mighty trees
Resting, resting
Blissful sleep
In the Sanctuary
In HIS sanctuary
In the woods…..

Blooms of Color

A cherished world of light and dark and colors in between
delights the eye and heart and mind with sights which make us sigh,
blooms red, to pink, to lavender, to orange, blue, and green.

The forest's filled by morning light in amber and citrine
reveals the white tail doe who leaps, as blackbirds sound the cry.
A cherished world of light and dark and colors in between.

Upon the mossy shore of playful brook the frogs careen
leaping past the level pads of water lilies pink near bye.
Blooms red, to pink, to lavender, to orange, blue, and green.

And men exist to fill a niche from onyx to casein
our skins transformed by natures heat under foreign skies.
A cherished world of light and dark and colors in between
Blooms red, to pink, to lavender, to orange, blue, and green.

OVER THE TRANQUIL PLACE WHERE LOVE SUDDENLY GREW

Over the tranquil place where love suddenly grew,
night carved the tender image of two souls breathing together,
to delight themselves until the sky turned dark blue;
we watched the stars come much closer and get brighter.

Night carved the tender image of two souls breathing together,
and it united them with deep passion and a solemn promise;
we watched the stars come much closer and get brighter,
we pondered the new mystery...so distant was the sunrise.

And it united them with deep passion and a solemn promise
as a memory which can't be easily erased or even forgotten,
we pondered the new mystery...so distant was the sunrise;
in awe we stood, while we could no longer see the horizon.

As a memory that can't be easily erased or even forgotten,
our minds remembered the tenderness of each hug and kiss;
in awe we stood, while we could no longer see the horizon...
the nightingales came to listen and learn words of sweetness.

Our minds remembered the tenderness of each hug and kiss,
to delight themselves until the sky turned dark blue;
the nightingales came to listen and learn words of sweetness...
over the tranquil place where love suddenly grew.

Black and White

You’ve maddened me to the core
You singed me with your ferocious fire
We’re opposites… we’ll never integrate
We can’t blend with each other…
Your love and I’m hate
We’re contrary to each other…

So don’t even think about
Getting us back together
Because without a doubt,
We don’t click with each other…

So let us go our own way…

Everything’s black and white
You love to torture me with your deceptive devices
We’re playing this chess match – let’s fight!
Tonight, you’re going to pay the prices
You’re going to be deleted from my mind…

I’m not the one that should pay the price
You act as if you’re an angel from heaven
But, you’re a fiend…a devil from hell...who needs your advice?
Could someone unchain me from this prison?

So let us prepare for that day…

Fear and bewilderment build inside of our minds
Taking over us…we’re wasting valuable time
Terror and wrath injects into our veins…time starts to unwind
I’m regaining my glory…this moment feels so sublime

You think you’re innocent?
I can sense your guilt…bleeding through you
Do you live to feed me anguish?
Don’t deny it…you crafty demon…no wonder I feel blue

Let’s get ready for battle…
I’ll watch you decay…
IT’S PAY BACK TIME . . .
Taste my fury and my agony

Everything’s black and white
You love to torture me with your deceptive devices
We’re playing this chess match – let’s fight!
Tonight, you’re going to pay the prices
You’re going to be defeated…

I scream before nightfall
I close my eyes to kiss my demise
I want to disappear
Scratch away my desolation
Wipe away my tears…
Spewing out of my eyes…like a waterfall
Tonight, there will be dismay
There will be suffering
After sundown…
Failure and glory will expose like stars in the midnight sky
Who will earn the crown?
No one knows in silent wars – who can reveal the light in goodbye

Why are we black and white?
Are you too afraid to know the reason why?

Everything’s black and white
You love to torture me with your deceptive devices
We’re playing this chess match – let’s fight!
Tonight, you’re going to pay the prices
You’re going to suffer alone…
