An Angel In Disguise

Water rushing through the brook
leaving drowned out laughter
and a blooming lilypad

A mother with a weary look
as she wades through, feet clad
It’s her children she’s looking after

Hair threatens to fall in her distant eyes
She remembers when she hadn’t worried
stealing kisses under barnyard roofs

She begins to chastise
“Children put on your boots”
She raised the voice, and they scurried

But inside she was grinning ear to ear
Thinking of sweet-smelling memories
and grass-stained linen

As her children crawled near
She said, “Now listen,
I must share some stories…”

The Backside of Killington Mountain

Killington Mountain, one of the largest Ski resorts in New England.
With its webbing of trails, dotted with colourful kaleidioscopic ski outfits;
racing to the Castle they call a Base Lodge.

My Cabin is atop a mountain across two valleys from Killington's backside
I can see the untamed, wild and free side of Mother Nature's: True being
Where deers have no fears, and the Bald Eagle soars Free

I once did a recue mission there, and when all were safe, I walked
Into the forrest of Nature, where mankind had never before intruded
I walked where the Deer, Bed. where the eaglets squawked for food

I saw the Black Bear awake; "Good Morning Mrs. Black Bear"she Yawned
And walked away.I heard the Evergreens giggle as melting snow ticked Pines
The Serenity,Tranquility, enveloped me in Nature's Wonder of the World.
Inspired by Linda(PD) with her Contest: 7 Wonders of the Ancient and
New World. This POEM is one of my 7 Wonders.

Megan's Hit

        MEGAN'S HIT
There on the deck, I took a practice swing
tormented in the possiblity--
then hope was dashed--I found no hope to bring
up to the plate, when Ump cried out, "Strike 3!"
I was the last to bat--in this last game--
just oh for three, my record said it all!
And in the dugout, faces all the same,
the looks of gloom! Just waiting for my fall!
I took my place, right up there to the plate.
Out on the mound, the picher grinned at me--
as if he hoped to make my swinging late,
or throw me one--I couldn't even see!
He'd walked a batter, waiting on first base,
to tie the score, if we'd get in the race!

                    II.

"No girl can hit!" I heard the catcher call,
and echoed from the bleachers was the same,
we made our stands, the umpire cried "Play ball!"
and then I vowed to get us in the game!
I gripped the bat, the windup came too fast!
As did the ball, but where it should have been!
"Strike one!" the umpire yelled at last--
The fastest ball that I have ever seen!
"She'll never swing!" the catchers words for me--
then threw the ball out to the pichers hand!
While out on first, my runner waits to see
if I can swing, or only make a stand!
Right in my face--the picher scouled a bit--
while I choked up--and readied for a hit!

                   III.

All set to hit--I made it then my dream!
and came the ball--I could not swing at that!
"Strike twoooo!" the umpire made it scream,
then said to me, "You've got to swing the bat!"
The bat it weighed a hundred pounds or so;
"She'll never swing," the pichers eyes did say,
With that he gave his very best, I know!
I glued my eyes--as it screamed straight my way!
I never saw the hitting of the ball!
but won't forget the cracking sound of it!
Nor know again the feeling of it all
of this my very most important hit!
The sound it made--that ev'ryone could hear--
a batters dream--but pichers' greatest fear!

                   IV.

The ball soared hard and high past second base!
then seemed to drop so slowly from above,
as quick as I could get us in the race,
I watched it bounce right off the fielders glove!
The tying run was just ahead of me!
Ole "Never-Steal" now ran like not before!
And right behind, fast as my feet could be
I gave my best! And then I gave some more!
The crowd gave out the seasons wildest plea!
As I yelled to the runner just ahead,
with all the grit that I could find in me,
"I'm going in! And if you stop--you're dead!"
Ole "Never Steal" was giving all he could
and on his heels--I made my promise good!

                V.

We saw the ball come by as rounding third!
Not once a hesitation in it all--
and as the umpire watched without a word--
he swept his arms, to make the tying call!
The score was tied--third baseman set to throw--
now ready at home plate, the catcher stood--
and through it all--my only thought was GO!
but if I did--I'd have to make it good!
I knew the ball was thrown down to home plate!
The catcher poised, and glued where he should be!
I had to slide, and heard the ball hit late!
"She's SAFE! She's SAFE!" my Daddy yelled to me!
Now layed to rest--our coaches greatest fear--
the only game we won--throughout the year!

Rescue 911

Look after Joe our mother said
We promised we would do it
She needed a break from all of us
And went out of town for a visit.

It was the spring of '93
The blizzard had ruined my place
So Sam was helping clean up my yard
Little did we know
We'd soon be red in the face!

I went down to check on Joe
He asked me to regulate his shower
I told him I'd do it later
And asked if he could wait an hour.

An hour passed, then two
We were busy with what we were doing
We forgot Joe needed a hand
And was sitting, waiting, stewing.

When I remembered to go back
I found it out of my power
For Joe had taken matters into his own hands
And was stepping out of the shower.

You adjusted the water, I began
Oh no Miss Emily
I could not do it myself
It was that nice policeman.

Where did you find a policeman
Out here in the sticks, I cried
Knowing in my heart something was wrong.
Easy Miss Emily, I figured it out
I needed help,
So I dialed 911.

I was horrified, afraid they would think us bad
For neglecting our uncle that fine spring day
Too busy to give him what he needed
Scared they'd take him away.

Oh no probem Jane
The man said when I called
We understand what happened today
Just tell Uncle Joe if he does it again
That out of his pocket he'll pay.

Our mother was not happy with us
But eventually thought it great fun
That Uncle Joe took matters into his own hands
And for help, dialed 911.

Suburban Spring

Suburban Spring
(4.15.10)

	Springtime fills the air,
			like laughing gas.
		(Or maybe more like whiskey.)
The suburbs are drunk on the nectar of it's dawn.
	Middle-class houses
			are starting to dance.
		(Or maybe they're just wobbling.)
They vomit whole families onto their lawn.

I watch them the same way dogs watch TV:
				Confused and intrigued,
with a slight urge to pee.

	The father cuts grass,
			like a sleepwalker.
(Or maybe more like a zombie -
Ravenous for cheap beer, instead of brains.)
	A six pack later,
			he starts washing his car.
		(Or watering his driveway.)
He's spreading on wax so he's set when it rains.

	The mother kneels in dirt,
			tending the garden.
(More like digging in a sandbox.)
Her spade is rusty. (Figuratively, at least.)
	A sunset later,
			she cooks family dinner.
		(Or maybe orders some pizza.)
(If every mouth is fed, she can call it a feast.)

I watch them the same way dogs watch TV.

	The son plays war games,
			dying for fun.
		(Or maybe more for practice.)
He whines about fruit drinks, as well as the heat.
	A full pitcher later,
			tweaking on sugar,
		(Or maybe just corn starch.)
the war escalates, 'til its time to go eat.

	The daughter makes a picnic,
			inviting her toys.
		(Or maybe not.)
(Her plastic spread can only spread so thin!)
	After the tea time,
			she's off picking flowers.
		(Or maybe weeds.)
(As long as they're pretty, there's a vase that they'll fit in.)

They gather, as a family, at the table to say grace.
They hold each others' hands and say, "Amen."
(And proceed to stuff their face.)

The dog sits by the boy -
			Loyal and true.
		(Or maybe just hungry.)
He drools as he stares from the corners of his eyes.
	After dinner,
he offers to help with the dishes.
		(Or maybe he demands it.)
The boy sneaks him a bite. The dog is not surprised.

	Bedtime comes soon after.
The kids are sent to brush their teeth.
(Or maybe just to run the sink.)
They put on their jammies, and to bed, they go.
	After tucking them in,
			the parents watch TV.
(Or maybe they just dream they do,
					sleeping in its glow.)

	The dog is changing channels,
			looking for a better show.
				Confused and intrigued,
he pees on the carpet below.

Three days Saved

It's been nine years, I have counted the tears-
they have made trails of guilt
  worried into my heart
then filled with loneliness and bitter despair
but by your grace I have been shown...

For the first time, in these nine years, I have not wept
nor held a vigil to honor our grief
though the loss still burns, this time it is transformed

Peace from your love still reaches through death
and through your eternal love I am reborn

 It is Good Friday.
When God took your spirit home
and left me dying to know,
how to love him for his sacrifice
when he asked me to give up you?
How do I heal this death and rise with you in his arms?

Through your love I was born, and in your arms I grew
and it has been your love the kept me whole
that taught me how to be reborn
for even though your body has gone
your words lost in the wind and breath no more
The essence of grace and strength you lived
- it grows still in your daughter soul

My being and existence came from your womb
my heart and mind shaped by your enlightenment
I have lived a life you gave me and for once
I live it in pride to honor your sacrifice
your words giving me the guidance I'd lost nine years ago.

Alas, I've come to know, that as you died
and went home with our Lord, you saved me from my death
not in your dying, my grief and love can attest,
but in your living strength and loving example
you showed me how to live a life
             open to our Father's gift

We knew it would not wait, but the parting was too fast.
I sat in thought three days before your sleep and asked,
"In three days time my savior died, I wonder hence
what of my soul will rise with his?"

And now sitting Easter morning,
  holding my sons candy-filled basket,
I realized Three days passed.

He took you home Friday morn, but left me love,
that eternal love that never dies
whose comfort is unending

I honor your love by giving it to my children
and Easter morning I felt your hug, your kiss, and knew
                                 you have never left me
.
Though God took you home Mom
I know you have never left me
for as our Savior died and rose
you too still live in my heart,
showing me proof our Father's blessings

because you, my love, are my soul and all ready there
there fore I am strong enough to give this pain up
to honor his sacrifice and transcend,
to be humbled by the grace and mercy
that could forgive such lost lambs as I

The First Spring Rain

The soft patter of rain wets my
thoughts
Calms my nerves
Gives me a reason to hope

My flowers will bloom soon
as the soil soaks up the rain
Feeding roots of growing things
Inspiring the birds to sing their rain
song

She watches with wonder as the rain
falls
Covering everything
Bringing out all the green
She laughs then
"Mommy it's rain!"
Such curiosity that hasn't been taken
Hasn't been stifled
Innocence that hasn't been broken
I tell her that it's a gift
Rebirthing life after a winter's deep
sleep
And soon we'll see the bees,
the butterflies
          And hummingbirds flitting from
blossom to blossom on the Bottle-
brush tree

Her eyes grow wide at my
movement, my careful
contemplation
As I tame my hair into a submissive
pony tail
And grab us some socks from
the laundry pile waiting to be folded
...I know that's what we should
be doing,
As I feel a twinge of guilt at leaving
our rainy day chores unattended ....
But what's life without the breaking
of rules, of routines?

And so we suit up, in rainy weather
armor
Slickers, hats and wellies

We march out the door
Searching for unwary puddles
Maybe an early waking frog
She watches with wonder as I make
my way down the drive
She watches with pure childhood
wonder
As Mommy jumps first into a puddle

She watches with wonder

As I learn to be young again
Playing with my daughter
In the first spring rain

mother

i call for mother
for she is sleeping on the sofa
i look more close for death has come to call on this sunny spring day
"mother , "mom" "mommy"
no words will wake her for death has made his final round
my breaths shall not save her no matter how hard i pump
my pleas nor cries will bring her smile back out from behind her blue lips

i stand before mother in her favorite dress and i hold her cold hand as those around say it
was for the best
i lay in mother empty bed smelling her perfume waiting for her just to walk though the door
i wait in darkness for my heart has no light

my days are full with routine but i am dead on the inside my smiles are fake and my laughs
are brittle
"just one more day to get though"
i am lifess and joyless i am pointless

my children grow but i am blind
i grow older but my grief ages me even faster
my face i no longer recongize though the mirror

long roads and dead ends but i can start to breath again
recovery is so hard mother but recover is a must
my smiles are real and i can now laugh without crying
no longer do i look to the door waiting
some days are long and i must really work at it
some days are so easy that i never want them to end

i stand with flowers in my hand and the spring breeze ruffles my hair
i look to your grave and
i can finally say i will be fine
i will be ok

Appalachian-second bear episode

Meanwhile, our troop moved on down the trail.
One more bear episode needs be told.
We arrived at the next stop with out fail.
It was late evening and beginning to get cold.

Two of us went to the horse spring for a bath
And use the same one to clean our clothes.
As we left the spring we saw blocking our path.
A mother bear and two cubs, ...fear arose.

We hid behind a tree and watched them.
In our unlaced boots, carrying wet things.
As they walked up the path toward the rim.
We knew we couldn’t just appear threatening.

We slowly followed keeping the cubs in sight.
The mother had left the weanlings.
But reappeared on top of a bank on the right.
As she jumped we started yelling and arms flinging.

They ran, she ran, we gathered our stuff and we ran.
Yelling and flailing, we chased them past the adirondack
We...right behind, duck into it fast as we can
and tie the gate before they could come back.

Come back they did and playfully bite on the wire.
The boys were elated and good pictures taken,
To show their friends that none of us was a liar.
Bruce and I recovered after being so visibly shaken.

They finally left, and so came to a fitting end,
Our last bear episode and good laugh,
The other boys had at our expense and chagrin.
On the oldest boy and the “chief of staff”.

We hiked our last six miles with no major events.
Still time to glow for being a trail survivor.
Fontana resort awaited...hot showers, condiments
Then home...all slept soundly, except me... the driver.

A CASTLE HEARTSTONE MYSTERY

A beautiful girl was born
In secret...
On a spring night
Just before dawn

A girl, so fair
A girl, so pretty
Your heart would melt

As she grew
Everything she touched
She loved too
The inner peace
Made people turn and sigh

In the depths of the Castle
She was kept secret
For the mother knew
The humilation and pain too

For the child,
a father was not known
For the mother,
she carried the secret
In her aching heart
On her face, the pain shown

The father, so they say
Handsome and charming
Took her heart
Took her love
Then went away

A girl, so fair
As beautiful as the day
Often wondered
Of the man
Who took her mothers'
heart away

Her mother in despair,
died
A broken heart
No one could repair

The girl,
such sorrow
Yet everything
She touched
She loved too

A girl, so fair
Accepted with innate grace
the loss
She could bare
Serenity , upon her face

Abeautiful child
Bcame a woman
Eerything she touched
Se loved too

On a spring night
Se must find
Te man who helped bring her ,
in to this world
Eerything she touched
Bcame light

Se sensed he was near...
Smething in the wind showing
Whose ripples she could hear
Her fair hair, blowing

A fair wind came
Warm and sweet
from the South
A Prince to meet

A South Wind Prince confessed
A daughter to love
A girl, so fair
Everything she touched,
was blessed

A tale of love spurned
A mothers' despair
A daughters' love returned
A girl, so fair
Averything she touched
She loved too
With a heart,
Carried in you

The promise of Spring

Summer ended too soon
Autumn leaves falls under the moon
Snowflakes chills the winter air
As spring flourishes with care

Raindrops will slowly pour and give the seeds
A new hope after the cold and lonely season
The sun will shine as if it has never been deprived
Of rising during the cold and lonely season

The bitterness of seeing the leaves
Cut-off from its mother branches
The sorrowful sight of trees
Uprooted from Mother Earth

Even if the flowers are already withered
For now it’s leaves are sleeping
A new branch will soon come out
And the tree will be soon alive again

Snow will soon vanish from your way
The leaves of hope won’t fall soon
Neither shall the trees be uprooted
That’s the promise of spring God will keep forever.

BEST SPRING, THE YEAR 2015

I FEEL LIKE AN EXPECTING MOTHER
READY TO BURST...
BUT WITHOUT THE LABOR PAINS
TO SEE MY CHILD IN A MANY A YEAR

TO TAKE OUR FIRST PICTURE IN A MANY A YEAR
OURS WILL BE A LOVE SONG MADE OF TEARS
MY ONLY LOVE, MY SECOND LOVE AFTER GOD
THIS MOTHER CANT WAIT TO HOLD HER CHILD
                HEAVIER THAN WAS KNOWN
TO TELL STORIES TO EACH OTHER, OF EACH OTHER
OF OUR MISSES

TO QUOTE A FRIEND "THESE KIDS SAVED MY LIFE"
THEY PUMP MY BLOOD THROUGH
THEY SQUEEZE AIR IN AND OUT OF ME
THEY ONLY DESERVE CAPITAL LETTERS
                    TO BE SEEN BY ALL

Gone Spring-Summer Time (in dedication my mother Dora)

First, blush,
Of Spring-Summer Time
Flourishing meadows,
Sun glimmers, on morning dew
Clouds part to let the sunshine thru

Blossoms observe the sun
Move thru sky
Spring conveys fresh little puddles
Rendering it all clear

Birds drone
Their glories of the day
Gracefully, mighty oaks trees wave
Blue Jays perched, on a rose bush

A panoply of Pansies appear
Like window-boxes incessant as sunshine
Which blossom at her feet

As morning fades
In stoic silence
Butterflies, delicately, flutter,
Amid the flowers

Plummeting,
On wet verdant grass, she tumbles
The fragrant air smells as clean
As newly cut grass

Beyond the majestic forest
Bouquet of roses, jasmine encase her
Sun glimmers,
Whilst, the temperature is still low
Flowers wave a genial hello

Meandering as a cloud
Her heart with pleasure fills
Like a river, that flows to sea
Adjacent a lake, less the trees

Childhood memories precede her
Taste, sound, smells, remembered
Continuous, as the sunshine, in meadow
Memories, of a gone Spring-Summer Time

When All We Have Is Time

An unbearable pain awaits her;
For my beloved who is to bear.
A man cannot know this
	Even when Daddy is there.

Hope may spring eternal
But it cannot quench the fire
Of the fruit of the labor
	Spawned from our heart’s desire.

I think to myself...
	When will it be time?
It is then that Grandfather Clock gives
My daughter her very first chime.

She gasps her first breath
Blessing us with her first cry.
She is born new and alive!
And all she knows is time.

Next door is a boy of few moons
Who hasn’t seen a single sun.
Born before his time
Most think his life is already done.

Don’t tell that to his mother
	Don’t you even dare!
For she sees the clock.
	She is fully aware!

She thinks to herself
“It is not my baby’s time to go!”
But within minutes
	His Bell will sadly toll.

He gasps his last breath
And His mother begins to cry.
...Even as an Innocent of Grace
All his Mother feels is time.

A man of many moons
	Is seeing the setting sun.
Living beyond his time
The man know his race is won.

Hope will spring eternal
	And so will his life.
Not for his good fruit of labor
But from Another’s toil and strife.

He thinks to himself
	It is now my time!
And with that, Grandfather Clock gives
My friend his very last chime.

He sips his final breath
But blesses us with a final smile.
He awaits a new and lasting life
Where everything he has is time.

The man’s daughter begins to weep.
She hasn’t seen the Father’s Son
She is living on borrowed time
And in faith she professes none.

Don’t tell Christ to his daughter.
	Don’t you even dare!
She glances at her watch
	Totally without care.

She think’s to herself
“It’s not my father’s time to go!”
But to the Believer
	His Bell did gladly toll.

She mutters curses under her breath
She feels as a victim of crime.
Persons of Grace can give no consolation,
For she feels cheated by time.

Fever for Spring

So the spring flurries sweet instead of the snow
It seeps into me, my dreams set aglow
For the green of the tenderest grassling can be
blended with blue or the grey of the sea
It's a fallen out whisker of a cat painted black
or my momma out swingin' in the hammock out back
The sea asks the sun to go for a dip
and the moon closes over like a tight fitting lid
We relish the splendor of bare-footed feet
as the wind urges us down our luminous street
Then curling up tight as we're in for the night
(like our friends who speak only with purrs...)
We dream of the spring (and such marvelous things)
that will never be matched with mere words...
