Wayward Child

Ah, memory is a fickle lover succumbing to the tide
grasping for the grains of sentiment sometimes left.
In cold or torrid waves, spent passions now abide
for you have left me, long ago, I'm now, alone bereft.

Grasping for the grains of sentiment sometimes left:
beside a roaring bonfire, where sparks on night winds glide;
for you have left me, long ago, I'm now alone, bereft.
I huddle in a dune's dark shade with nothing left inside.

Beside a roaring bonfire, where sparks on night winds glide,
we conceive a wayward child, a changeling child, a thief.
I huddle in a dune's dark shade with nothing left inside,
as the waves of age and ages, return only grief.

We conceive a wayward child, a changeling child, a thief.
In cold or torrid waves, spent passion now abides,
as the waves of age and ages, return only grief,
ah, memory is a fickle lover succumbing to the tide.

Ode to a rose on a sunset

A kiss from a rose on a sunset night,
as the clouds dip into the sea.
A kiss from that rose as the waves fall,
over the beach to a rose kissed me.

A kiss from a rose on a sunset night,
as we wrap in lovers embrace.
A kiss from a rose as homeward we go,
to a bed clothed in satin and lace.

A kiss from a rose on a sunset night,
with passion and warmth do we grasp.
A kiss from that rose that blossoms and blooms,
my hand in her labour pain clasp.

A kiss from a rose on a sunset night,
that wanton and curvy young bride.
A kiss from that rose that huddles our babe,
so loving, in motherly pride.

A kiss from a rose on a sunset night,
without whom I'd not share my life.
A kiss from that rose who selflessly filled,
the place of my darling rose wife!

Since First I Saw You

Since first I saw you, it was your eyes,
mesmerizing, your gaze transporting
me to a realm, not of fantasy, real,
where young men go when cupid’s
arrow takes root.

Since first I saw you, it was your lips,
captivating, holding me frozen
in anticipation of our lips brushing
for the first time.

Since first I saw you, it was your voice,
a crescendo, light, invigorating,
each word you speak intensifies
my hearing, enveloping each
note, time ceases as I hang motionless
savoring, memorizing.

Since first I saw you, it was your hair,
long, flowing, gently rising above
your shoulders as a slight breeze
passes through sending waves
of your essence my way.
The sun magnifying each strand,
highlighting the minute
variances of invigorating color,
creating a halo effect, a portrait of
your beauty forever imprinted.

Since first I saw you, It was you,
my love forever more for you,
only you.

Must It Be So?

We were sleeping
When the dirty water
Came rushing down,
Drowning our arrogance
And releasing our fears
Into the atmosphere.

We were stunned.
Ravaged by consequence
Melting around our feet.
Disorienting panic
Was devoted to the air,
Igniting exhausting anarchy.

Pandemonium ruled
This day
While we were rendered speechless,
Ruined by our own
Inability to escape
Such confounding spoils.

The dirty water rose,
Bringing indignant death
And uniting a new breed,
The best and worst
Humanity has to offer
To this brave, old world.

Voices lifted into the molten sky,
Crying for help
Beyond comprehension,
Catapulting an echo
Even as it occurred
Around the globe.

Why must it be so
That man’s integrity
Is tested by disaster?
Why must it take
Such extreme devastation
To wake us?

Mothers

Mothers are truly God’s gift to the world and really for us
Oh, they will put things out, even a fuss with a simple touch
The essence of their being prevents us from being in a rush
Hear their words of wisdom and one will learn very much
Even as drivers they shift gears without scraping the clutch
Resting a child’s head, they simmer a cry with such a hush
Saving grace, loving us dearly like a hand with a royal flush

my mother

	MY MOTHER
I dedicate this poem to my beloved mother

I miss you mum, I miss you
I know I always will
I’ll never stop loving you
I knew that you were ill
I wanted to take away the pain
I would have done it too
But you just grinned and took it
That is so like you
I remember that look on your face
When you told me you were dying
It seems like it was yesterday
I could not stop crying
I know it’s been a long time
In fact it’s sixteen years
Time will never ease the pain
It cannot stop the tears
I say goodnight to you in bed
And think of you in bed
You’ll always be there in my heart
It doesn’t heal in time
My love for you will never die
And this I know is true
You just remember up above
I’ll never stop loving you
A large piece of my heart is gone
But I am not too sad
I remember the memories
And they always make me glad
You are my guardian angel
Who always looks after me
I look up at the stars above
I see you shine, I see
I hope you like this poem
I made it just for you
Remember I’ll love you always
And I’ll always miss you too

Because You Answered Yes

My head's up in the clouds
I'm walking on air
Thinking about you
Without a single care

'Cuz nothing else matters
Except for you and me
What we want to happen
And who we want to be

Am I to excited
Getting ahead of myself
I know another broken heart
Is not good for my health

I probibly need to calm down
Maybe take a rest
All these feelings happening
Because you answered yes

Birthday warning!

A cold autumn morning,
new rains have arrived
today not so ordinary
A little girls birthday goes by

she had an accident
she awoke in her bed wet
today she is six, a present she did
not expect

A day without the jug cord
would be her birthday wish

Her hope is soon faded,
for there her mother stood,
A birthday beating just begun-
her mothers' way
of a little fun

"you dirty little b!#@h"!
I'm sick of washing your sheets
this will fix you...and fix you good
till you're black and blue
...or till I'll make you bleed"!

Happy Birthday to me...
through aches and tears
I am happy
I survived to date six years

alone in her closet
she'd make this her car
travel to far away happy lands
go shopping for a star

once she bet the jug cord
she collected up the sheets
took her mums' old coal shovel
buried them under the house
darkest corner beneath,

her father gave her sixpence
every time she was dry,
or if she wet, he'd make her wetter
he'd put her in a cold bath

the little girl would trick him,
moving the sheets about
her mother would come in the room
catch the little girl out

the little girl did such things
out of fear she lied
the little girl was in a place
she was trying to survive

she adapted to her father
she adapted to her mother

though difficult it was
it affected everything
looking back the way she was

she changed her life completely
eradicated the fear
her life gets better and better
year after year

her mum and dad to this day
the little girl forgave
she understands the way they were
a woman she has grown
forgiving to her grave

she struggles on her birthday
preferring to enjoy
her spirit accepts what happened
on that day the present
she avoids

COME, THIEF

People of dreams, my grandmother said, are we gypsies,
Stargazers, drifters, the royalty of each roadside camp,
Soul travelers, speaking the language of every country,
For through us the wind bemoans and the moon’s eyes see,
Friend to all the forgotten- the lost, the broken, the tramps,
But foe to none, save three: ourselves, the hateful and destiny.

We have our tools, our parlor games; bless the Wheel of Destiny,
But beware the Tower and the Devil, the bane of all true gypsies.
I’ll read your future, relay that Lovers meet and Death tramps
on certainty. Hope comes with the World, where the Fool camps
and drinks from cups, but avoids the Ten Swords that he can see,
Then carefully picks up loose coins from a honeyed country.

Haunted woods welcome me like my sentry raven. Oh, country!
Vamp I am and hag I shall become, no fellow slave to destiny!
Cards do not lie and neither do I; a seer tells what she can see,
Yet my heart weeps, nobody pities others more than we gypsies,
And so I now escape the endless revelations, pitch my camp
in the wilderness where only one, unseen phantom tramps.

So, I build a fire, brew a tea and sing like silver screen tramps,
A stranger approaches the glow I made in the moonlit country,
God have mercy on this Romani. Fortune has found my camp,
So long I have tried to escape from desire, the flame of destiny,
But it’s found me! This prince of thieves knows not Gypsies
And I enflame high above my quaking knees. Can he not see?

There stands the Magician and there is nothing he can not see,
His grin is sure, across my flushed skin his warm gaze tramps,
I clutch my Strength card, attempting to deny the torch of destiny,
Love at first sight is the passionate rite of all blueblood gypsies,
How suddenly the heart can open in the closed bud of the country,
Fate, oh my handsome fate, nods and begins to cross my camp.

He stops, closes his eyes, trembles within the shrinking camp,
So I cross to him, lift my hand to his face, surprise I then see,
A hand covers mine, two quiver before they accept their destiny,
Our lips meet, hot and damp, o’er clover hunger lustily tramps...
I sit up on my bedroll, gasping, alone in this foresaken country,
Damn my waking and damn the sheer loneliness of gypsies!

I gaze around the camp, something stirs, insistently tramps,
A sigh I hear, not mine, and a bold silhouette I can now see,
Come My Love, come destiny, come thief of the hearts of gypsies.
