My one burning wish -
I want not to fade away
like rotten lace, dumped
onto a trash heap and forgotten.
I want to leave myself behind,
for those who come after
to inhale during breakfast.
Not money, like my mother,
who judged it to be the only thing
of worth she had to leave behind,
as though her love meant nothing,
as though her virtue didn't count.
A nonpareil pattern of motherhood,
of personhood for that matter,
written in permanent script,
propagated in layers of goodness,
flung onto her progeny
with the glue of infinity.
As long as I live, so will she.
I want that,
when it's my turn to go.

A Mother’s Love…
How precious is the love
of a mother’s heart!
Even as a child… It’s there from the start.
A mother’s love knows
no boundary or limit.
It’s often shown by how
much the mother gives it!
Whether her children are
young or growing old…
And whatever circumstances
in life may unfold…
Her love is continually
a solid foundation…
That can’t be removed, torn or shaken.
Her love is what is
a “guiding force…”
Even if her children’s lives
stray “off course.”
I’m thankful for the love
my mother’s given…
It’s surely influenced
the way I’ve been livin’!
To all of our mothers across
our great nation…
May we show them our love
Their love has stood and
endured the test of time…
I’m so glad that one of them is MINE!

I do not know?
Teenage Girls clad in the latest fashions,
Do it whenever they meet,
Grown men aren't afraid to show some passion,
When their team's comeback is complete,
They can say hello, they can say goodbye,
And anything inbetween,
If you open your arms and crack a smile,
There is nothing that a hug cannot mean.
We have been together
treasured joy now for many years
we trust each other with our
emotions, with affection, tears,
Any day when you are sick or hurting
I feel your pain - significant other,
when eighter-one needs attention
we help one another...
These mutual friendly feelings
for assistance, approval, support
form our tight bonds,
usually never broken
Sharing visions, time together
we respect each other,
regardless of shortcomings
I know you, "I love you anyway"
There's a little history to this particular poem. I know I wrote it when I was 11 or 12 years old. I wrote it for my Grandma Dorabel, who is today 90 years old. I also wrote it for my uncle John who had been taking care of her at the time; I didn't want to leave him out so I put on the letter: For Grandma Dee and Uncle John! I wrote this short little poem along with a drawing of a cat and some flowers. However, I actually never sent the picture to her! My parents and I must have forgotten to send! To me that was unacceptable! I thought to myself today when I found the picture, I must send it now! The picture is now on its way to her, so I am happy she will at last receive it.
You can send me a bouquet of flowers,
You can order me a box of chocolates,
You can buy me a fancy outfit,
But flowers don't last,
Chocolates eventually disappear,
Outfits get out of style,
Yet Love never fades,
And it's the most precious gift of all
You do not stand alone in your Battle
Your battle is our Battle
We may not be there in body
But we are there with you in Spirit
We are there in every beat of your Heart
In every whisper of the wind
In every thought and every touch
Every breath and every sound
We are there with you
You are wrapped in an Endless chain of Love
In every link we each send you a part of us
We send you some of our Strength
Some of our will to Fight
Some of our Courage
The most important of them all
We send you all of our Love
If you feel you need more
Just give that Endless chain a little tug
And we'll be there
Tug til you need us no more
Then we'll know you've gone Home

I am God's child, first and forever
I am known by many different titles, a daughter
I am a wife
I am a mother
I am a grandmother
I am a poet
I am by several ways, known as a sister
I am an acquaintance
I am a loyal friend
I am a stranger
I am a cousin
I am an Auntie
I am a niece
But who is this person, they all call "Denise?"
She is a child to God
She is a niece
She is a cousin
She is a stranger
She is a loyal friend
She is an acquaintance
She is known to many, a sister
She is a poet
She is a grandmother
She is a mother
She is a wife
She is known as a daughter to many
She is everything, she'd ever dreamed her life to be....
She is happier than she ever imagined possible
SHE IS "DENISE"

Let another flower wilt,
Let another autumn cast its gloom,
Let another tear role,
As ye part, and bid
The final adieu.

Our rising worship! Oh, perfect love of Mother and Child
is understood by adoring eyes. Eager hearts pray,
from the eternal breath of babe. Lifted high, strong yet mild,
He foretells of forgiveness and whispers agape.
Upon Mary's chest, lie His heavenly dreams -
a love of no measure born unto a Virgin
and sins evermore are assuredly redeemed
as God's blessed Mother cradles creation.
Her womb brought forth Light, the Savior of man.
Her gentle touch nurtured God's only Son.
The sacrifice, His blood shed to quench a dry land.
Prophecy fulfilled, so no soul shall be shunned.
Inspire us precious babe upon Mary's chest.
Mother's unfailing love gives comfort and rest.

Here I sit, uncertain of what lies ahead.
I’m still wondering how my family will be fed.
I once had a job that provided a sense of “security.”
Now I don’t… And I have a lot of uncertainty!
I have unpaid bills, and I’m not sure what to do.
I’ve asked for help. But not sure who to turn to!
I get discouraged, and feel life “pulling me down.”
I’ve tried just about every job that’s in town.
The dreams I had, have been shattered and smashed.
At times, I feel like I’m just “a piece of trash.”
My wife tried to support me, the best that she can.
But she doesn’t know me… Or even understands!
Dear Jesus… You’re the only left that I haven’t tried.
There’s been many nights I laid awake and cried!
I read in the Bible, where your love for me is real!
When I call on your name... There’s a love I can feel!
Whatever happens, please help me Lord, to trust you!
Whatever tomorrow holds, may I still love you!
I know that you’re a foundation, that I can stand on!
Jesus is a friend! That I can always depend on!
Jesus, if I lose everything that I have or that I hold on to...
My I always remember your faithfulness
and never forget you!
Here I stand… With my burdens lifted from me!
It’s because of Jesus! And how much he loves me!
I praise HIS name! And lift my hands to the sky!
He’s in control now! I don’t have to ask the reason why!
Jesus… Please take control of my worries and desires!
Above all of my problems, I lift your name up higher!

Will We Know Him?
Will we know Him if He stood in front of us?
If He walked by us on the street?
Will we know Him?
If we have a chance to meet Him in our lifetime?
In that split second that we meet Him?
Our eyes met for the first time?
Will we know Him?
Yes reading the moment we stood side by side?
Our smiles are very clear
Our heart jumps around
Yes we do know Him?
That look, and that feeling
When we know we've found our home
Yes we do know Him
Yes we know what to say to Him
As we walk away together
Yes we know Him as He knows us His children
We are finally together

A Very Inviting Temptation!
I remember of a particular situation.
I was offered a very "inviting" temptation.
The situation I was in... I didn't belong!
And lost any sense of "right and wrong."
At first... I felt no guilt or shame.
And brought embarrassment
to my family's name.
I tried to explain this to my wife and kids.
I heard; "Dad... please... no more fibs!"
The Godly principles were "tossed to the side,"
As the sin inside caused arrogance and pride.
Soon, all in my life that truly mattered...
Was gone! My life was empty and shattered!
I was sorry for all of the problems I caused!
This time... I took a moment to pause.
I cried to God to rescue me from my sin.
I confessed! Would God help me once again?
I read in the Bible of Jesus’ grace and love!
This time the help I needed had to come from above!
I asked him for a fresh and brand new start.
He removed the stain from a broken heart.
He restored to me the joy I once had.
I'm so blessed! Jesus has made me glad!
Jesus is the reason I'm here today!
I LOVE HIM more than words can say!

Is It God We Trust? Or Leave In the Dust?
As our courts remove God from this great nation.
We are left with a confused and lost generation!
As God is taken away from our public schools.
A huge tide of immorality is what “rules.”
The Bible is often mocked and discarded.
It was on it’s principles this country was started!
Just about anything of God seems to get scorned.
So many “rush” to worship many ungodly forms.
As God’s name is often tossed and thrown out.
We tend to forget what HE is all about!
Too often, his plans for living are tossed and abused.
No wonder, there’s many who are lost and confused!
As people forget God and worship the fallen creature.
They look to themselves and “glorify” their features.
Many ignore God, and get involved in deep addictions.
And with this, come disease,
heartache and afflictions!
As God looks and sees this nation “bleeding.”
It’s his righteousness, that we need to be seeking!
If we would humble ourselves, he would hear our prayer!
He loves all of us! And he really does care!
Won’t you come to HIM, And invite him in?
Won’t you allow him to be your master and friend?
He brings strength and nourishment to the soul!
It’s only in him that we can be made whole!

Nine solid months of changes, you carried me
While I am in your womb, You take care for me
Your shape, I unshaped
Your stamina, I weaken
With every food you intake, I partake
With every emotions, I feel you too
With every movement, we both sway
With everything, together you and me
Mama, That I used calling you
Eight to how many hours you labor
That I do not specifically know now
All I know is that you love me so
(Mama, I love you too... )
Together, we go to window shops
Guiding me you never ever stop
To my heartbreaks, you, ready to mend
To my winnings, kudos, you always send
I love you my dearest mama!
Though I don't tell you this much
Evermore to your every touch,
I am so deeply attach!
The soul of the crab
Oh how she hides behind that shell
Lets no one see her feelings
She’s practical in everything
But those feelings have her reeling
She’s sensitive, and hurt easy
And her moods they be so many
And yet she has not one bad bone
Malice, she has not any.
She be the one for queen and country
Digs into history
She’s always loyal to her kin
She loves her family
She’ll protect them with her life
Don’t no one touch her man!!!
She has a brilliant memory
And she’ll get you when she can.
Her mother, she loves very much
But her children more than that
Wherever there be family
That’s where she would be at
And how she loves to entertain
And cook delicious food
And always she will be a mother
In her heart will be her brood

pretty amazing to behold,
once of a llfetime story never before been told.
behind all the biggest miracle:
there is a woman in every age,
blessed above all the rest of the mother's,
from the beginning,
ever since time began,
you journeyed and fought a good race,
besides everything that we do,
you are a mother, wife, sister, aunt, and grandma,
because of you,
I am not lost.
you found me on low,
you stood by me in every hurt that I cost.
mother of all heritage,
you beloved are a blessing of all miracles.

HONORABLE MENTION.. :) PRAISE God!!!
Rises my day, even before the sun,
To smoothen others life, as butter in churn.
To keep the flow perfect, I always haste,
Surrounded by my duties, I have no time to waste,
Making everyone ready, for the day turn by turn,
I wish someone could understand, from inside I also burn…
Sacrificing my happiness for the will of my parents,
Getting married and accepting the feel of the torrent.
I have to pay the price for my pains and lowery,
As we brides still die in the fire of dowry.
Making everyone happy, for the life turn by turn,
I wish someone could understand, from inside I also burn…
I have brothers, who protect me from the evils,
But how much shall they fight, the street is filled with devils.
Looks at me and stares brutally every eye,
We are humans, believing this has become a lie.
You have a sister of your own, who is equally divine,
Why do you adulterate me, like snakes on vine?
Losing my divinity; for the life turn by turn,
I wish someone could understand, from inside I also burn…
Mother, sister, wife, daughter, am I,
But before every part, as human I die.
Others happiness has become my prime duty,
But, I still await someone, who will pull off the curtain, of my inner beauty,
I don’t desire the whole world at my feet,
But definitely, I deserve the behavior which is elegant and neat,
I will keep smiling at my hardships turn by turn,
I wish someone could understand, from inside I also burn…

I Knew Someone Who Was Ready to “End It All!”
I knew of someone who just wanted “to end it.”
Giving up on life, and did not want to “defend it.”
It was a heart wrenching and difficult situation.
He said what he wanted to, with no explanation!
I could see his face and the sad look in his eyes!
What he was going to do next, was anyone’s surprise.
He turned to drugs and encountered addictions.
With this brought much disease and afflictions!
He gave up on the wonderful family that was given.
And turned to a pretty wild and crazy way of livin’!
I told him about a God who loves him very deeply.
As he listened, he began to grow restless and weary.
I reached for his hand and began to pray for God’s power!
It was a miracle! The blood of Jesus changed him that hour!
The spirit of God brought healing and hope to his body!
He was so excited! He rushed out to tell everybody!
The “end” that he wanted, seemed to just fade away!
For the son of the living God, changed him this day!
The glory of God, and the power of Jesus’ resurrection…
Changed him! And got him going in a NEW direction!
He’s so thankful for the blood of Christ’ atonement!
And is a different person now, because of that moment!
This same Jesus loves and can do the same for YOU!
Through the problems of life…
He will see you through!

My Mo In law
My Mo in law, she’s ninety five
And wow, she’s looking bright
I see her in that old folk’s home
She looks a real delight
Though she can’t get around much now
She still delights in life
With a smile to all who pass on by
She seems so free from strife
She came out here at twenty nine
To our good sunny land
She worked so hard when she came here
And she made no demands
Milking cows there on the farm
Bringing up three kids
And she got on without a moan
In everything she did.
She helped her husband build two homes
She worked and worked all day
She done each thing she had to do
In a sweet and gentle way
On thinking about my Mo in law
I’d have to tell you this
Old Rosie she’s a mighty bird
You know, she really is.

When I was little my mother and father took me to my grandparents place
The reason was they had school and work so they dropped me off and took haste
My grandmother who was always writing had brought out a case
I always wondered what it was that made her heart beat in an odd pace
Little I did not know what she was smiling so much about
So I watched her run around making snacks all out
I was little and about to touch the case, but I heard a shout
When I heard her she had a look that made me pout
My grandmother smiled and said to me that machine was special to her
But what was that machine because it was odd looking, for sure
As a little child nothing looks more interesting than a new figure
Finally she sat down with me by her side and a cup of coffee to stir
With a big smile she told me a story and first it was on paper
As she spoke I heard her voice with ticks and taper
I could not concentrate because of sounds and I was looking at her
She spoke with kind words and words that I will know in the future
I giggled when she said a word, because it made several noise I heard
My grandmother smiled at me and really knew that I like the sounds that occurred
Little things are not so little she smiled and looked at her coffee and stirred
She pointed at the machine with paper rapped in it with a pattern that lured
As she spoke to me I watched it snap at the paper with precision
I was kinda amuse on her finger making a quick decision
The machine was so fast and her fingers was too, I could not use my vision
She was so happy to see that I was starting to understand the occasion
After a while I got bored and she put me down on the floor
She kept smiling and making music beyond the door
When it stopped I felt empty some how to the core
She stopped it was just because she could not find words no more
I ask grandmother what is that machine you are using as I was griping
Grandmother why wont you play with me as I was smiling
She said that she was doing some stuff, I guess she was not done working
But the thing was she was so happy as she said the machine is a Typewriter for typing

All from the beginning
Almost a year of pains
All the early sickness
Everything from sleepless night
To kicks in the stomach
From nights of torture
To nappy changing
All the cuddling
The joy of fist words to first steps
Could words ever explain
All you gave me
Unconditional love you gave
Your undying love to date
Through thick and thin by my side
All the support and courage you gave
But words could never explain
What you really mean
House could never be a home without you
Family could never be complete without you
You’re a role model
In my eyes nothing compares to you
In my eyes your love and care is endless
Because you’re the best
Keep on mother As the saying goes
'Mmangwana o swara thipa ka bogaleng'
‘Mother grasps a knife by the blade.’
My mother died some time ago
And God took her away,
To begin her dance with Jesus
That continues to this day
She wasn’t her old self that day,
Her memories had flown
He invited mom’s new self to dance,
And the Father took her home
Mom never was a dancer
That I ever heard her claim,
But the steps she does with Jesus
Would put Fred Astaire to shame
Perfect mind in perfect love,
With perfect memory,
As she whirls and twirls with The Lord of the Dance,
And waits with Him for me
My Brother’s up there with her,
I’m sure he cheers her on,
And does a jig or two himself
When Heaven plays the song
My other brother’s with me still,
And our sweet sister too,
The three of us with our dear dad,
Believe all this is true
Mom is up there dancing,
All over Canaan Land,
Perfect in the arms of Jesus,
As He strikes up the band
But a Whisper From the Childs perspective
Part 1 of 2
In my minds’ eye this life that I see is my very own upon your knee.
While I was in heaven in the heart of God waiting to be born,
I was full of excitement anticipating I wanted a Mother to adore.
I wanted a Mother to hold me tight, safe within her arms.
Raise me good give me love and keep me safe from harm.
I wanted a mother, who’ll bounce me on her knee,
And give me sweet candy and kisses.
And when I’m away, on her mind I’ll stay, for it’s me she always misses.
A Mother to shape and mold me to be all I can be.
So when I’m older and out in the world I can make her proud of me.
A Mother to teach me of kool-aid and Jesus, baseball and football too.
A Mother that I can look at and say, I wanna be just like you.
I’ve had lots of time to think about what I want to be.
But I have the strangest feeling the worlds not ready for me.
So I must go back to the heart of God and stay for a little while,
But that’s ok for I have seen my dear sweet Mommas smile.
In my minds I you kissed me but a moment, A lifetime in a flash.
Although I knew you but a whisper, forever your memory will last.
Of course, as soon as a new poetry contest was posted I had to immediately enter. In this
contest, you had to email the sponsor to get your own, unique theme.
Off went my email; back came her reply: “Write a poem about what inspired you to write
She even included one of her poems as a sample of what she was looking for. A beautiful
poem indeed; relaying the story about how her Grandmother inspired her to write.
So, I tried to emulate her with my story.
I wrote a poem about my football coach who taught me real men can write poetry without
feeling emasculated. A nice poem, albeit, total fiction.
I penned a verse about my first love encouraging me to write about our romance and how
the subsequnt breakup inspired me to write about the sorrow of love lost. A passionate and
beautiful poem, although pure BS.
I rhymed the touching story about how my mother, on her deathbed, confessed that she
knew I was writing poetry by reading my secret journal for years. Her last words to me
were to follow my passion and write poems for her in heaven. Problem is, my mother is
alive and well and has never shown any interest in reading my poems.
The fact of the matter is, I cannot pinpoint a moment in time; a person; or, an experience
that inspired me to write.
Just as I need no inspiration to breathe in order to stay alive; I write poetry as a reflexive,
Just as I need no inspiration to eat in order to satisfy my hunger; I write poems to placate
my yearning inside.
Just as I need no inspiration to dream when I close my eyes at night; words, rhymes and
stories fill my mind whenever I find a moment of peace in my hectic day.
Whereas, I envy those who know where their inspiration came from, I am less blessed with a
birth of inspiration and am more cursed with an innate need to write.
In my email to the sponsor, I bragged how I was up to the challenge, but, alas, she
presented me with a theme I cannot relate to.
I will continue to breathe words of poetry through my keyboard.
I will continue to nourish my hunger through prose.
And, I will continue to dream in rhyme and meter.
But, I have no story to wow you with about what motivated me to do so in the first place.
The irony in all of this? After admitting this truth about myself to a complete stranger in an
otherwise meaningless contest, I am inspired to continue to feed my curse and write poetry
When my momma prays there are tears on the wind.
Heaven pays attention to this sweet woman's prayers.
She gets a call from someone and her knees automatically bend.
Right then and there her heart she bares.
Many times I've heard her pray for me and my boyfriend.
That we would not fall into any unaware snares.
Always praying that if any of us had sinned,
We would confess them to the God who cares.
Yes tears are on the wind every single time.
Joy unspeakable fills her heart everyday.
She lives to please her Wonderful God sublime.
She is joyous and content in every way.
Everyday with her Lord she is gloriously living
and with her tears on the wind she keeps on giving.
A beauty who walks an extra mile
To see my face shining with smile.
My inspiration for and beyond life
My mother taught me all to thrive.
As her selfless attitude stirs all time
To give the best even when not fine.
Mother you are an incomparable soul
Better than the best be it any role.
You are the source to make me move
Do good always and not just to prove.
Lose no hope when clouds are dark
Mom helped me trust positive mark.
Inspires in all strands without saying
24 by 7 active support system praying.
Words do fall short to describe my idol
Not just my inspiration but vitally Vital.
She and I had a special bond
one I will never forget,
I remember when I was younger
I was her little pet.
She loved me with her heart
I was spoiled by her and grandpa,
I stayed up late at nights
I enjoyed watching heehaw.
I used to hold her hand
while walking down the street,
she said hello to her friends
a lot of them, I did meet.
Those days are all gone
all I have is the memories,
she passed on a Summer day
her love passes in the breeze.

My grandmother passed on a warm Summer day on July.31/2014. This is the first time I sat down and wrote a poem after her passing. I didn't even get the chance to grieve for her.
