Your Time To Shine

What will you do when it’s your time to shine?
Do you have all your words written down in your mind?
Have you planned for the day when they call on your name?
To lift up a soul and help hide someone’s shame?

Is it easy for you to just stand up and speak?
Anytime, anywhere – any day of the week?
What about when you’re asked to give your point of view
On the many events that take place in the news?

If you’re asked to speak on the ‘good news’ of Christ
To those who yet walk in the world, full of vice.
Do you have rhyming words or a sweet song to sing?
As you share the news of our Resurrected King?

These questions I ask are to keep us in mind
Of the Great Commission given to all mankind!
That our King returns with Victory in His hand,
And all will bow down with their knees in the sand

Giving glory to God – Who truly loved us all
Even though disobedience caused us to fall.
Yet He gave all He had even Everlasting Life.
He forgave us our sins – He took away our strife.

His command said “go forth in the world, filled with love
And be as wise as serpents – but gentle as doves”.
So what will you do when it’s your time to shine?
When God opens up Heaven and says “This child is Mine?”

A man i'll never be

Growing up
My father and me
He did the best he could
Because once we were three

Events happened
And then we were two
His rise and demise
As his life withdrew

Looking back, to the memories we had
They never lasted for years
Some great, some sad
For an ill man he did his best
And in me, I have his zest

He never recovered from the loss of his son
To say goodbye to the elder one
He was hospitalised for months and years
On the day he was taken, uncontrollable tears

The years we shared
Fifteen in all
In every one
He helped me grow tall
To appreciate, what life will give
Remember your past, let your future live

He's all around me every day
For on the wind I hear him say
Enjoy your life, live happily
I hope you get to the land of the free

My reply to you Dad
As you look down on me
The Aura around you
The man I hope to be

" Happy Fathers Day to you Dad, I still miss you, your loving son James "

My teardrop

When you see a raindrop fall
It is my teardrop after all
When you see a star that would shine
Remember that the teardrop was mine
When you feel the warmth of the sun
Know that it's my heart that you had won
When you see a raindrop fall
It is my teardrop after all
When you see the sky of blue
Put in your notes that I love you
When you feel so alone
I am just on the other side of the phone
When you see a raindrop fall
It is my teardrop after all
When you shall cry
Remember my love for you will fly
When you see a rainbow
In the sky is where my teardrop will flow
When you see a white dove
Just think about the teardrop that falls down from up above
When you are feeling blue
Remember that my teardrop is for you
When you see a teardrop fall
It is my teardrop after all.

The Soldiers Lullaby

She once walked with him and stopped with him
when they heard that familiar refrain.
She'd stand beside him while he'd salute
her pride for her Soldier was plain,

and every night,
while he'd hold her tight
contented and happy, she'd sigh.
They would drift off to sleep
listening to the beat
of the Soldiers Lullaby.

They play the National Anthem
to fill us with fire and pride
and the last one they play every evening
is the Soldiers Lullaby.

Twice a day at nine eleven
when her Soldier was in Iraq
she'd bow her head in silence
to remember that September attack,

and when she'd get home in the evening
tired and lonely, she'd cry.
She'd pray that somewhere he was listening
to the Soldiers Lullaby.

Now she stands at the gate in the airport
heart pounding as Soldiers stream by,
so excited she can barely contain it
overwhelmed she's starting to cry,

and the crowd is beginning to thin now
the tears and the laughter all die,
heart broken and lonely, she stands there
when she hears his voice simply say "hi"...

It's been years since she's thought of that moment,
they've been busy with life passing by.
Two girls and two boys
now fill their lives with joy
and time really does seem to fly,

but at night when she's tucked in her family
she still bows her head with a sigh
and she never forgets to remember
The Soldiers Lullaby.

~For Jenn with love

Why When We Sleep Do We Close Out the Dark?

Why when we sleep do we close out the darkness,
Which comes creeping and crawling within?
Still it finds it's way into our conscious,
Which fades as the daylight grows dim.

We close ourselves off from the nighttime,
Behind curtains, blinds, shutters and screens,
As we try to forget the day's time-line,
And surrender ourselves to our dreams.

Surely nighttime is perfect for sleeping,
When it's dark outside and in our heads,
As slowly that dream-state comes creeping,
While we're tucked up at home in our beds.

It should be the daytime we close out,
We can't sleep while we're facing the light,
Since surely the sun leaves a dream-drought,
So the best time to sleep is at night.

So for all who rise late in the daytime,
And for those who will rise with the lark,
The question I leave you in this rhyme;
Why when we sleep do we close out the dark?

DaddyTold Me Song on CD

In life to get by, I really do try, very hard to live by,
the old fashioned ways, of how my daddy lived his days,
He often told me not to lie, and when he caught me, it made me cry,
and I still remember him say, son you'll be ok, tomorrow's another day,

Then daddy told me about the war, the first time he wrecked a car,
and of how it made him cry, when some of his friends died,
Then we looked up in the sky, and the whole world felt like ours,
staring high up in the sky, I just wished that we could fly,

Being young, I asked dad...why?...why do people have to die?
Then I heard him sigh....and say....my oh my oh my,
and he looked me in the eye,
as I yearned for his reply:

Son, people are dying without....and dying within,
with no way out.....hunger starves a friend...
Death is much about, bloody wars that never end...
The whole world, no doubt, suffers from serious sin,

Then we looked high up in the sky, suddenly a shooting star went by,
and the whole world felt like ours, as daddy told me about the stars,
Then I listened to him say, son...tomorrow and everyday...
let nothing stand in your way, and you'll succeed in life....OK.

Forever in My Heart (Aarons Song)

Sometimes I look around me
and I see an empty space
where you might be playing
a sweet smile on your face.
You might be calling out to me
asking me to play
and I would be there with you
and you would fill my day.

When bedtime comes I'd read to you
then before I tuck you in
I would open up my arms
and you would climb right in.
I would kiss your baby cheek
and tell you "you're my love".
I would hold you close to me
and thank the Lord above...

But then I look around again
and there's just an empty space.
No toys scattered on the floor
no shinning little face.
I'll never hear you call my name
or watch you as you grow
but you will always be with me
no matter where I go.

And I know there is a heaven
and I know that you are there
and you have a better life
than I could give you here.
Until I take my final breath
I will always pray
that through God's most precious gift
I'll be with you some day.

Then, I will take you in my arms
and hold you close to me.
Your laughter will ring in my ears
your smiling face, I'll see.
We will be together
my precious baby boy
and then the only tears I'll cry
will be ones of joy.

I hope that you can hear me
I have so much to say
and I never had the chance
since you left me that day.
For now I want to tell you
that I love you so
and I am so sorry
that you had to go.

If you could have stayed with me
my dream would have come true
and I know I would have done
anything for you.
And even though you went away
and we must be apart
I know you will always live
forever in my heart.

Emptyness

A place still lies
Lonely and untouched
Every night it cries
Seeking for its walls to be patched

A place still lies
But dead in its self
With broken memories
And an empty shelf

I struggle to find myself
In the midst of all the strife
But above me a cloud of darkness
So thick, full of sadness

The place will still lie
But not utter a cry
It shall continue to die
Because no one asked why

Son

From the exact day your Daddy
said we'd conceived You
Exactly nine months, to the day,
we retrieved you

It is said You are so much like him
It's a wonder that I was even there

What is a "spitting image" do tell
Because I wouldn't want it
in my mouth to begin with

I thought Sons were supposed
to look like their Daddy's
After all, they're born out of Love
Or did I miss something, somewhere
                   God Bless

If You Only Knew

If you only knew how i felt about you
You wouldn't treat me like you do
If you love me like you say
Why do we get to arguing everyday
I guess thats the way love goes
No one ever really knows
If you want me,take me
It's the only way you'll get me maybe
I have a lot of things on my mind
But you seem to have me in a bind
That doesn't mean you have me on lock
That just means no one can block
The love i have for you is power
It just don't come and go in a hour
You got some really good i guess you think you do
But only if you knew

Prodical Son

Like a tide in the storm
taking sand from the shore,
tossed and turned to return to the shore twice as strong as before,
So does the prodical son as he knocks on his fathers door...

Bruised and battered his title didnt matter-
His ways brought shame on his family name.
He used and abused- spent up all his fathers money
no friends since its gone-his fun is no more.
Reality begins to set in when he eats with the pigs-
Its kind of ironic when all he had to do is just repent.
So finally he acknowleges the damage he's done and goes back to his father-
who killed the fattest calf for his son...

Like a tide in the storm
taking sand from the shore,
tossed and turned to return to the shore twice as strong as before,
So does the prodical son as he knocks on his fathers door...

Dont you remember when you walked in his shoes?
Dont act like you aint walked in them too-we all have missued.
But like the prodical son we where saved from our pasts, when we got down on
our knees and asked God for a second chance.
I pray you recieve this lesson, the father wants you to come on home, but many
reject him.
Were all prodical sons, even you gangstas and thugs- the father wants you to
come back home- this world is no home, Repent while you can...This is our
second chance.
Everyday we get tossed and turned by the enemy-But if you have God's word it
will set you free.
You was down on your luck before- now your headed for glory-twice as strong as
before...Take some time out today to call on the Lord!!!

Like a tide in the storm
taking sand from the shore,
tossed and turned to return to the shore twice as strong as before,
So does the prodical son as he knocks on his fathers door...

One Love, A Tribute to Bob Marley

“One love…one heart, let’s get together and feel alright…
As it was in the beginning (one love), so shall it be in the end (one heart); give thanks and
praise to the Lord, and I will feel alright…” Bob Marley, Prophet.

I and I,
and together, we,
are one.

We are, but before we can be, we must realize,
that the only way TO be, is I and I – the trinity;
the I and I makes the one that was, is, and ever
shall be –
the one yearning to be set free
unto its brothers and sisters to its beginnings
and endings,
and on and on and on, and led into infinity
by its singers.

It is the one that does not seek,
and can only be found; rediscovered
like the greatest treasure the earth ever buried,
and the heavens ever knew –
                                the reason for all things…

So dance as one voice; sing as two feet
pounding
the earth with your glory;
free the one rhythm that has been vibrating between toes
for all of time –
dance beneath and above all things,
and sing the songs of freedom!

Rise up, rise up, rise up and dance!
Free the chains from your bound feet,
And feel the weight released –
A trinity of I and I;
One love, one heart, let’s get together
And feel alright…

I and I,
and together, we,
are one.

Nashville, A Dog Gone Hit,

I left my hometown and didn't much look back,
headed southward bound in my Cowboy Cadillac,
arrived at this store to grab me some snacks,
Yea, they're right about this town, of how it really attracks,

Yea, here in the town called Nashville, where the Grand Ole Opry's on TV,
They say it's the real deal, where upcoming singers need to be,
but I don't do much singing, 'cause the hound dogs howl at me,
though I sure hope it's worth bringing, my songs, for some to see,

I've got them on the internet, downloading them is free,
I haven't had any right connections yet, but I'm hoping patiently,
gonna find me country singer, try to pitch them a dog gone hit,
like pitching a horseshoe ringer, you know you just can't quit,

Yea, here in the town of Nashville, where the Grand Ole Opry's on TV,
they say it's the real deal, where even writers need to be,
no, I don't do much singing, 'cause the hound dogs howl at me,
but I sure hope it's well worth bringing, my songs, for some to see,

Yea, here in the town of Nashville, where the Grand Ole Opry's on TV,
they say it's the real deal, where upcoming singers hope patiently,
Got some songs to pitch the singers, like me, they just can't quit,
like making a horseshoe ringer, knowing one of them could hit,

I've got them at Poetry Soup, where printing them is free,
log on in, enjoy the view, it's finger friendly as can be,
become a welcomed member, without any sort of fee,
no matter what's your gender, or your nationality,

Yea, here in the town of Nashville, where the Grand Ole Opry's on TV,
they say it's the real deal, where upcoming singers need to be,
Gonna find me a country singer, try to pitch them a dog gone hit,
like throwing a horseshoe ringer, knowing you just can't quit,

Yea, I left my hometown and didn't much look back,
headed southward bound in my Cowboy Cadillac,
arrived at this store to grab me some snacks,
Yea, they're right about this town, of how it really attracks.

She's Nobodys Fool On CD

She's a charming love attraction,
Always dresses fit to thrill,
When she's looking for some action,
She's looking for a heart to steal,

And her charming eyes can mesmerize,
The heart of any man,
While her warming smiles can magnetize,
Them right into her hand,

And she's nobodys fool,
She's sexy sweet and cool,
She can charm any man right into her hand,
Then drop them like a fool

And she gets some satisfaction,
When they say her love is cruel,
And her only shown reaction is,
"I'm nobodys fool!"

She can easily charm the devil,
From the heart of any man,
And her way is having several,
Caught up in her hand,

And she's nobodys fool,
She's sexy, sweet and cool,
She can charm any man right into her hand,
Then drop them like a fool,

And her charming eyes can mesmerize,
The heart of any man,
While her warming smiles can magnetize,
Them right into her hand,

She"s a charming love attraction,
Beaming with sex appeal,
When she"s looking for some action,
She's just looking for the thrill,

And she's nobodys fool,
So sexy, sweet and cool,
She can charm any man right into her hand,
Then drop them like a fool,

She's a charming love attraction,
So sexy, sweet and cool,
And she gets some satisfaction,
Being nobodys fool,

And she's nobodys fool,
She's sexy sweet and cool,
She can charm any man right into her hand,
Then drop them like an fool,

Father to son (A monologue)

Life is full of many important decisions my son
Each decision is a step closer to your future
Every step could lead in many directions, as a man, you must choose one
Do not decide your path on others convictions, examine your own beliefs first
There is nothing worst than betraying ones self; consequences are grave, believe son, it hurts
Walk the path that you choose; sometimes the path gets a little rough and very steep
Be mindful and learn from all setbacks, this builds character; for all our actions we must reap
Stay focused on your prize, remain smart and be aggressive in your endeavors
Remain humble but celebrate your accomplishments; those memories will last forever
Continue to set and achieve goals; do not become content with the present
Contention precipitates laziness, your hunger is subdued and eventually severed
Become a strong, positive, productive and intellectual man
Set the example for your children; this will be a difficult task but do the best you can
Mistakes are common in life son; be responsible and rectify each and every situation
Lord willing, I am preempting one, by maintaining father and son communication

Mother and son

I cherish you,
If you cherish me.

You brought me to life,
We began to meet through time,
Even though,
Sometimes you don't comprehend me,
Sometimes you don't understand me,
That sometimes time isn't enough,
That sometimes instincts get uncontrolled...,
But still,
You were designated for my life,
And you profile my living...
We share lives...

Although,
Time brings maturity,
And time doesn't last forever,
As well as we don't last forever...

There is no such thing,
As total perfection,
Even though,
Thank you...

I only see you in Pictures

Run out in Steptember
and here is December
But I'm still your defender
To guard and protect you forever for sure
but for now

I only see you in pictures
It kills me to look at your pictures
You keep me alive, you in pictures
Do they let you see me in pictures
I ache to hold you not just your pictures
Soon together we'll take new beautiful pictures

On the day of your birth
You brought to me mirth
I promised heav'n and earth
To stay and protect you forever for sure
I'm with you but for now

I only see you in pictures
It kills me to look at your pictures
You keep me alive, you in pictures
Do they let you see me in pictures
I ache to hold you not just your pictures
Soon together we'll take beautiful pictures

To The Top

I'm going to make it to the top,
Where all my goals and dreams are bound,
I've got to make it to the top,
I don't have time to fool around,

I've been so down and low before,
In lifes real ups and downs,
Now I know life shares more,
Where all my goals and dreams are bound,

I thought I'd take a chance with you,
And you'd share these dreams with me,
Though, youre goals and dreams seem few,
So, I'm going to leave you be,

You have your own life ahead,
And I feel you don't need me,
What I've seen instead,
Is you're needing to be free,

I may miss your soft warm touch,
And all your gentle grace,
Though more than much,
I'll miss your smiling face,

I'm going to make it to the top,
Where all my goals and dreams are bound,
My hopes and endeavors shall never stop,
Until I'm touching solid ground.

One For Excuses Song on CD

Darling, I didn't aim to let you down, or to leave you lonely,
I also have a frown, baby you're not the only,
I meant to hurry home, and didn't mean to take so long,
I didn't realize time had flown, please forgive me if I wrong,

Honey, I'm not one for excuses,
But I'm so sorry with regret,
And my heart sure feels so useless,
For what you're not over yet,

I did say I'd be right back, I even called you on the phone,
And my heart didn't cut me any slack, when I heard the busy tone,
Please accept my apology, honey, I haven't lied,
And if you still won't talk to me...well, at least I know I've tried,

And I'm not one for excuses,
But I'm so sorry with regret,
And my heart sure feels so useless,
For what you're not over yet,

Darling, I didn't aim to let you down, or to leave you lonely,
I also have a frown, baby you're not the only,
I meant to hurry home, and didn't mean to take so long,
I didn't realize time had flown, please forgive me if I'm wrong,

No, I'm not one for excuses,
but I'm so sorry with regret,
And my heart sure feels so useless,
For what you're not over yet,
Yes, my heart sure feels so useless,
For what you're not over yet.

Christmas Eve

Sing to the melody... “La Cucaracha"

The little children/ the little children/ setting sugar cookies and warm milk....../
Hoping to see him/ hoping to see him/ in his red and white silk!

The little children/ the little children/ anticipate the leading red light........../
Hoping to see him/ hoping to see him/ sliding down the chimney tonight!

The little children/ the little children/ falling asleep on the couch....../
They didn't see him/ they didn't see him/ setting presents in a crouch!

Framed by Love

You asked me to make sure your husband didn’t drink that December day as I pushed your chair through glass-encased gardens. A friend in need you had always been, I could deny you nothing, but Paul lost it and left town when you died. Living just long enough to see your first grandchild born, it was a three-year battle before cancer put you in that wheelchair. Look at how lovingly Paul holds your hand here, standing by Chris whose smile lit our lives. Chris and I gave the eulogy together as you asked, but you knew that since Chris is with you now. Only weeks after your death did we learn of Chris’s cancer. Tell him I miss our travels as I embrace this photo with my heart’s frame of eternal love.
*For Sidney Lee Ann’s “Picture Frame” contest Dedicated to Jeanett, who saw her grandson born on Christmas before dying in January 2003. Our friend Chris died Christmas Day 2005. The photo makes me think how different life was when we spent all our free time together.

The Things You Wish You Could Erase

Sitting on the edge of the bridge
Holding unto that bottle of beer
The same beer that he drank
The night he killed those people
Flashback in his brain
Gripping unto the bottle
nearly breaking it
hes sitting behind the wheel
Picks up the beer bottle
Takes another sip
He sees the car
But gently closes his eyes
The women slams on her breaks
Her son in the back seat
The cars crash
Her car rolls down the hill
His car slamming into
The side of bridge gates
The gates holding him steady
He gently steps out of his car
Seeing the smoke
A gray car laying in the river
Below the bridge hes standing on
He runs down there
Running through the water
the top of the car barely noticable
He helps the young women out
Not knowing about the little boy
In the back seat
She yells
"my son... my son"
She points to the vehicle
She takes her last breathe
Lays there helplessly
The man drags the little boy out of the car
A scratch on his forhead
Not breathing at all
The man cries
Trying to wake the kid up
Knowing they are both up in heaven
He vanishes
Several years later
He sits on the bridge
Holding the bottle
Has a child of his own
A wife of his own
Waiting at home for him
His son an hour before
Wanted to walk to the bridge
With him
But the man just said no
The young boy just stayed home
His father never came back
They found him
Floating in the same river
The women and her son were in

Legacy

          Contemptuous
While leaving village for thirty years

Accompanying my son to New York

Found a bawling child in a street

Bare feet, dirty addressed, threatening look

We could not compromise on his

Soul was hanged on sharp hook

Took him and played arbitrary role

Result gave me piercing shock

Finally was charged with blame

Of opening his confidence- lock

Had to leave him seeping tears

I received my son thankful cry

How wonderful life under shady oak

Returning village, found child place

His shrieking father had took

I wished him a kindful son

He yelped rudely, don’t poke

Don’t favor them but the best way

Is setting them in oxen yoke

We exchanged our lovely glances

Our love made us happy look.

To My Black Pearl

In a world filled with lost black girls
I found my cultured pearl
highly respectable
and very intellectual

with beauty that extends beyond the skin
to me she is far beyond a 10
in life the best blessing

I have ever encountered
through the Lord I found her

angel with no wings
that plays my heart strings
and gets me so excited
until finally I had to write it
this is my heart where you are cordially invited

to stake your claim
plant your flag,write your name
for eternity you will course through my veins

your the ying to my yang
the name my heart sang
everything is you are my everything

I love you is a understatement none can take your place
your my oxygen without you I would suffocate

We moved so rapidly
became a family
you bought out the man in me
even had my little man for me

love of my life completely free from drama
worthy of being my wife, I did it right not just a babies mama
so I will honor
you forever shatada

I Can't SEE ME WITHOUT YOU

To my wife Shatada who loved me unconditionally. SEPT 4 2008 MAKES 9 YEARS.

The Gift of Sound

The Gift of Sound.

In our little house stands an upright piano
Tuned by a blind man blessed by the gift of sound.

My son sat one day playing a masterpiece
Wrote long ago by a man who couldn’t hear.

Listening to the music it took my mind away to
Afar magical places no luggage and no cases.

My mind kept jumping between different scenes
Fields of colored flowers the loveliest it can be.

Shadows of far mountains colors in different hues
A pied piper sat under a tree playing his favorite tune.

Sheep gathered together chased by a cleverly dog
Taught by nature no cane and no flog.

Oh… the gift of sound.

NEED AN UMBRELLA

Dancing in the rain, drops on my face;
Not in a rush, I love this place.
Need an umbrella? I say not today
The kid inside, just wants to play

Jump in the puddles, really big splash
Childhood wonder, all day bash
Laugh out loud, as it's pouring down
I'm young again, on a merry-go-round

Soaking wet clothes, I'm such a mess
I really don't care, I must confess
Skipped work this morning, to be right here
As soon as I heard, skies wouldn't be clear

We grow up too fast, and we lose our awe
For the miracles in nature, Heaven's spa
I let my son skip school, he's making "A's"
To celebrate youth, make memorable days

So I'll pass on the umbrella, see my boy smile
Won't worry about work, or focus on style
Yeah.. just for today, I'll be a kid again
My son will never forget, what a day it's been!

Last Night In Bed

In bed, I confessed the most
agonizing pain ever hidden
I kept it for so many years

whirling through my head
and guised as laughter
for all to see, but I couldn’t beam
with pride at having not

outperformed my weakness
You were not asleep
and I found a chance to spill it out
from my chest to yours

that I could put it to rest
Soon, silence fell against our will,
but I did understand a thing
The pain has been released,

shared for the very first time
Ah, I never remembered how
tearful I was last night
and who cares? I don't, ‘cause...

you were accenting,
warm and a good listener
rightly suits a troubled son

Different Dream

After a hard day at work I come home
Hear my boy rapping the words to his headphones
Every bleep comes another bleep
As he keeps dancing to the beat
Come upstairs and barge through the door
Say to him, "Boy whatcha listenin' to that for?"
As I rip it out of his ears
Turn around and look in the mirror
Get ya head outta the gutter son
You talk to ya mother with that tongue?
Ought'a lean you down and wash your mouth soap
Teach you a lesson and just barely make you choke

Dad, you don't understand
This is me, this is who I am!

Boy, you freeze it right there
Just so I know we're good and square
I'm your father, sit down when I say so
This is home, this is where the green grass grows
Can't be the one to follow you where you go
Can't take you as is and just tie a little bow
Around it and be happy
You ain't what I expected you'd be
After all this hard work to bring home the bacon
Just to come home to see the fuss you making!?

Imma be big and travel the world,
Be famous and get hooked with any girl
I'm tired of this rice 'n' beans, I wanna taste some of that green!

Stop it child, you making a scene, a mockery of ya ma and me
Do yourself a favor and dream a different dream

The strings are for those with charm
And fame are for those holding cards
Your inner core will just burst at the seams
They say play it safe
And dream a different dream
Billionaires are cowards in disguise
Their careers built upon money and lies
Your inner core will just burst at the seams
They say play it safe
And dream a different dream

I remember when you was little
Your mind was like some twisted riddle
Rapping the lyrics
To your idols, Snoop Dog and Jay-Z
Acting like you knew what they meant
But boy, you could barely read
Spittin' rhymes don't put a roof over ya head
Or clean the dirty sheets in your bed
All those fancy clothes don't give ya fame
just brings your family to shame
Look at you playing life like it's a game
Joining all those gangs just to bleed
Gettin' high and smokin' weed

Dad, it ain't like that
I'm not some filthy rat
Planting my seed wherever
Imma stay true forever
Build myself upon lyrical tether
Striving to be as authentic as leather
Come on dad, can't we get it together?

Your grandpa was born and raised in the meadows
No Internet, no microwave, just planting corn rows
But right now the grass is as green as it's gonna get
And if you ain't got that through ya head yet
As your pops I'm really quite upset

Take these words right from my mouth
And give 'em wings to fly south
Or I will run from this house like the ratatouille mouse
Tired of this cheese I want something more
The birds and the bees aren't what I'm looking for
I don't wanna die like everybody else
Just put in a hole and call it a grave
I don't wanna die with nothing to my name
If I'm not looking up I'm going south
You can scream and cuss at me with ya sailor's mouth
I'm still leaving and I'm taking the dangerous route

The strings are for those with charm
And fame are for those holding cards
Your inner core will just burst at the seams
They say play it safe
And dream a different dream
Billionaires are cowards in disguise
Their careers built upon money and lies
Your inner core will just burst at the seams
They say play it safe
And dream a different dream

Here I am, standing in this trailer
In your eyes I'm a failure
For wanting to travel the world like a sailor
From Beverly Hills to New York City
At this point I don't even care if you're with me
I may have augmented my hopes a bit too high
But I was tired of looking through telescopes, that habit can die
But dad look at me now
No longer in a small town
Can't be modest I have to boast
I'm traveling the world from coast to coast
In everybody's head is my riffs
And I wish you were here to see this
Swallow your pride long enough to shed a tear
Remember what you used to say, "Turn around, look in the mirror"...?
I wasn't no golden child and you weren't the perfect dad
But come on now, that's a thing of the past
You can ditch your bacon, eggs and Jimmy Dean
Live in luxury in your fields of green
Come on dad, won't you dream this different dream
with me?

NOTE: Words in italics are from the son's perspective, words in normal font are from the father's perspective, and words in bold is the chorus line.

I'm not sure where the idea came from. I was on a camping trip, heading back home, and all the sudden this whole elaborate story came to me and I started writing it all down on a notepad (back then I didn't have my Kindle Fire).

Mirrorred Refrain-GOD GAVE US LOVE FREELY

Smell the spring aroma and
let it delight all your senses...
don't the softest roses bloom
on windless, sunniest days?

Let my slow fingers caress your lustrous hair,
feel the pleasant warmth of a lovely afternoon;
on windless, sunniest days...
don't the softest roses bloom?

Only the truest lovers can set the white moon ablaze,
as the passing stars shed more light on their faces;
don't the softest roses bloom
on windless, sunniest days?

God gave us love freely as the air we breath;
humans have turned it into lust and doom...
on windless, sunniest days
don't the softest roses bloom?
