Nashville, A Dog Gone Hit,

I left my hometown and didn't much look back,
headed southward bound in my Cowboy Cadillac,
arrived at this store to grab me some snacks,
Yea, they're right about this town, of how it really attracks,

Yea, here in the town called Nashville, where the Grand Ole Opry's on TV,
They say it's the real deal, where upcoming singers need to be,
but I don't do much singing, 'cause the hound dogs howl at me,
though I sure hope it's worth bringing, my songs, for some to see,

I've got them on the internet, downloading them is free,
I haven't had any right connections yet, but I'm hoping patiently,
gonna find me country singer, try to pitch them a dog gone hit,
like pitching a horseshoe ringer, you know you just can't quit,

Yea, here in the town of Nashville, where the Grand Ole Opry's on TV,
they say it's the real deal, where even writers need to be,
no, I don't do much singing, 'cause the hound dogs howl at me,
but I sure hope it's well worth bringing, my songs, for some to see,

Yea, here in the town of Nashville, where the Grand Ole Opry's on TV,
they say it's the real deal, where upcoming singers hope patiently,
Got some songs to pitch the singers, like me, they just can't quit,
like making a horseshoe ringer, knowing one of them could hit,

I've got them at Poetry Soup, where printing them is free,
log on in, enjoy the view, it's finger friendly as can be,
become a welcomed member, without any sort of fee,
no matter what's your gender, or your nationality,

Yea, here in the town of Nashville, where the Grand Ole Opry's on TV,
they say it's the real deal, where upcoming singers need to be,
Gonna find me a country singer, try to pitch them a dog gone hit,
like throwing a horseshoe ringer, knowing you just can't quit,

Yea, I left my hometown and didn't much look back,
headed southward bound in my Cowboy Cadillac,
arrived at this store to grab me some snacks,
Yea, they're right about this town, of how it really attracks.

DOG NAMED BLUE

I had a plain pet rock
Before it was a fad
I longed for a puppy
Wasn't allowed by dad
So I'd just pretend
It was my shaggy dog
We'd go on walks
And jump over logs
We'd lay in the grass
And take in the rays
Me and my pet rock
On summer dog days
When school started
I'd take him with me
Kept in my pocket
No one could see
This boy had a dream
Now it's come true
Me and my son
Have a dog named Blue

SCARY 1

Try me, fool, and the semi gon' bang
I'm a big dog, I gotta' let my nuts hang
If I go to jail, best believe I'm bonding out
I always handle beef, that's what I'm all about
I'm not a punk, somebody lied--
I'm bustin' shots, let's get that fixed

Sleep on me, see me in ya' worst nightmares

I'm Hell-raiser, dead fresh in some Nike-Airs

Or in a monkey suit, totin' something with a banana clip

Leave you wet, like dry lips after applying Chap-stick

Ain't talking 'bout a blunt, but I rolled-up

I'm gon' wet these fools, hope they don't mold-up

When it go down, I go ape-shit, bananas

put coward to sleep, without the pajamas

Keep bustin' shots, like pimples on a maturing teen

I do my dirt, but leave the crime scene clean

Stay fresh, but they always call me grimy

They say I'm too gangsta', so they won't sign me

I put in work, man, I'm clockin' in overtime

Haters faces looking sour, like they suckin' on lime

You got beef, well guess what, that's all I eat

I stand my ground, you just sit in your seat

Can't let fools run me over, I'm not a roadkill

Leave you in the streets leakin', looking like an oil spill

You got a problem, I know how'tta' get that solved

Apply pressure, let's not get ya' family involved

SCARY 2

Try me, fool, and the semi gon' bang
I'm a big dog, I gotta' let my nuts hang
If I go to jail, best believe I'm bonding out
I always handle beef, that's what I'm all about
I'm not a punk, somebody lied--
I'm bustin' shots, let's get that fixed

I keep it 100, like whole-numbers, no fraction

You're a toy, all looks but no action

So much beef, I can open up a diner

Catch me underground, call me a miner

I keep it real, you haters is processed

To the streets I'm a god, bow down, get blessed

I got rank, like a zebra, I got stripes

Diggin' in ya' chest, you know pressure bust pipes

Got heat, I'm like an Arab with no turban

Shots burn your chest, like drinking Burbon

I cock my tool as they approach, get ready

Make sure you're on point, and hold it steady

When they get near, that trigger get a pull

Give straight head shots, it's an unspoken rule

Shots rang out, like the bells of Notre-Dame

I was long gone, before the law even came

New York Rodeo

No 8 second ride for these cowboys tonight
As they start in the morning, losing daylight
Their hats are now ties, tethering true
Not breathing in clean air as faces turn blue

Their motive, the green, but not of a pasture
Not men of free will, but now slaves to a master
When the bell rings, it’s chaos, not for a meal
It’s a dog eat dog city, with true faces concealed

They’re just…

Cardboard cowboys in a concrete canyon
Riding steel horses, reigning in their abandon
Letting loose bridles, for no horses they ride
Spending their days, cooped up, deep inside

It’s a sad way
And a sad day
For New York cowboys

Their fishing hole yonder’s now polluted with clutter
As their southern boy drawl’s replaced with a stutter
No chaps and no stirrups, no boots and no jeans
Their lives are now over, at the end of their means

The bull that they ride are the very stories they tell
From wall to wall bouncing, not sitting a spell
They are always in a hurry, no time for the rose
Not much of a cowboy or anything, I s’pose

They’re just…

Cardboard cowboys in a concrete canyon
Riding steel horses, reigning in their abandon
Letting loose bridles, for no horses they ride
Spending their days, cooped up, deep inside

It’s a sad way
And a sad day
For New York cowboys

Albert The Alligator, Florida University Mascot Story

A green sweaty swampy land
Maybe no place for a man
But it is a home to many creatures
Such as our friend's the alligators

Now not so long ago,
In their steamy mysterious habitat
There was a fog so dim it almost made it black
and it had large limb's that hung low on the trees
And each slim blade of grass went an inch above your knees

All gators that lived here
seemed to be very ornary and mean
And it was considered ordinary
To attack their peers With bone crushing teeth

One could ask,
Why are they so mad?
But it's not their fault
It's just the way they were taught how to act
Ever since their speckled eggs hatched
And learned how to make their jaws snap

However, not all gators were like this
There was one who was filled with happiness
He wore a blue hat and a bright orange shirt
Everyone reluctantly called him Albert

Because Albert happened to be completely different
All the other gators kept him at an arm's distance
They called him names and spat in his face
But his joy just never seemed to fade

See Albert had a huge dream
His dream was to be with the humans
As they yelled and screamed
For the local school's winning football team

Out of nothing but sheer excitement,
Albert shared this with the others
But they all laughed even his brothers

So Albert decided right then
to not care about what anyone said
And to pursue his only dream
No matter how long or tough it may be

The next day Albert left that dreary swamp
On mission to prove the nay-sayers wrong
And when he left that dim fog grew so dark
You could not see or hear a big dog's bark

So he made his way to the nearby school
Where he saw not no one, not a single soul
Every building was empty
From the top to bottom floor
The all of a sudden, Albert heard a thundering roar
"Romp!, Stomp!, Chomp!, Welcome to the Swamp!"

He rushed to the football stadium
Where he was met with open arms
He finally felt accepted, safe from abuse and harm
So with his new friends, he rose up in exultation
His life was anew, he was the love of Swamp Nation

You Better Brush Your Teeth

Hey Yo plaq is whack
Tell it to get back fast
Infact kick it out
With the arm and hammer
Then finish with floss
For the glits and glamour
Now you are the boss
Of your own teeth and gums
But Ill share my loss
So you'll never lose one

One day my tooth ached so bad I could weep
I recieved my first and last cavity
Oh how my mom and dad were mad at me
Because I didn't do what they asked of me
Now my sis and the whole class laughs at me
Cause all can I eat is easy mac n cheese
and no more sweets like sour patch kids for me
So Listen to your parents, jack and steve
Because you do not want to act like me
And end up with a toothless tragedy

A Dog and the Black Umbrella

On a rainy day, I decided to read in the hotel’s lobby
There, I found no one, but I heard deep breathes
I thought it was my imagination, so I sat on a cozy red chair as I began reading "War and
Peace"
But, the deep breathes did not stop, instead, it turned into heart breaking sobs
I looked around to see if there is someone sitting in the hotel's lobby with me...
But, there was nothing except for the drop drips across the window
Slowly, I stood up and walked towards the sound's source
Thus, my feet led me towards the hotel's main entrance
And there, I saw a dog sitting beside a black open umbrella...
I saw something dripping from the dog's face, but I was afraid to go closer to see if he is
okay
Gently, I crept, gently, I sat beside the dog...
I looked at him to see him sobbing, yet looking at something I couldn't see
Then, he lay on the ground next to me, as he tried to wipe his tears with my jeans
I caressed his head as I tried to help
I waited for a while as I watched the drip drop
..
.
The sun began to shine on the borders of the land
And the dog stopped sobbing for a while
He stood up and looked at me; trying to ask me to follow him
As I was standing up, he held the umbrella and gave it to me
He gently barked to tell me to put above our hands
And so, we ventured into the rainy day's display as the dog led the way
Five minutes walk was all it took, for we stopped in front of a hospital
Once more, the dog barked as he looked at the black umbrella in my hands
I lowered it to him to see what he wants
It was then that I understood the dog's sobs, for it was a devotion to his friendly owner
On the black umbrella was a small tag that read the owner's name; "Sam Mathews"
I went into the hospital to ask for him and the nurse led me to his room
There, beneath the white sheets, lay an old man with a smile on his face
When the dog saw him, he ran to hug the old man as he sobbed once more

I left the room, thinking of the old man's brief story of what had happened;
"On a rainy day, I wanted to take my dog for a walk; suddenly I felt pain in my heart as I
blacked out
Then, I opened my eyes to find myself lying in this bed with a nurse beside me
I asked for my dog, but he was nowhere near
I had this black umbrella in my hand, but it must have fallen, and my dog must have stayed
beside it waiting for me to come..."
That dog is a loyal friend, for he waited, without food and water
For his nearest moment to see his friend...

Heart Broken

I woke up in the morning and wondered why I'm still here, life has never been good to me and left me so Heart Broken. I only want to be happy, is that too much to ask? So if there is a God up above, I really do need a hand. I step outside in the pouring rain, I already feel depresssed. So Mother Nature can feel my pain and thats why its raining for me. I know life is what I make of it, and believe me, I try my best, but once in a while I need a break, or the comfort of a valued friend. Hearts are meant to be broken, I know cause I lived through it all, but hearts take time to mend from the pain, depending on how it was broken. My life was full of trauma, a time I would not want to go back to, but now I have an adorable dog and her daughter, who help me heal. My heart is still broken from the past, but now it is slowly healing. My furry friend will be my comfort, when I feel so lost and alone. Nobody should ever feel lonely and lost, cause when you need a friend they are always there...even if its your dog or any other kind of pet. They are very therapeutic at times, when the darkness seems to haunt you. Anytime I need a friend, my pets are close within reach. They will not let me cry for long, cause they're on my lap and licking me. I have to smile at them, and show them I am okay, cause if I don't they get sad too, and that is something I would never want them to suffer. So if you have ever been Heart Broken, find yourself a furry friend. They will be there whenever you need them, and cheer you up, when you are feeling down. I thank God for giving me my dog, because of her I also have her daughter. God does work in mysterious ways, and sometimes I am too stubborn to wait, but God has aleays been there, and he hurts along with me too.

Companion

COMPANION

Countless hours, time no concern
Side by side, how much we’ve learned
Through ups and downs and thick or thin
We march together, new tales to spin

No longer a canter, your gait without pep
Rumors mills churning
Have you lost a step?
Senses diminished, speckles of white
Onward we push, onward we fight

Betrayal of age, the cycle of life
Sauntering quietly, causing much strife
Our hearts melded solid, our thoughts are as one
Losing the battle but war has been won

Not always together, at times on our own
Filling days with dreams we have grown
Dreams of nirvana, dreams of gold
Dreams spent together
Never get old

Someday I know our paths must part
Furry fellow dear to my heart
One knows a place where dreams come true
Side by side, just me and you

Deceptive Calm

Tonight I'll talk too much and try to and complicate my friends.
Distant conversations, eye contact only now and then.
I try and drown myself in futile disbelief,
Only to be washed ashore by truth here on my computer screen.

The monsters hand held out, hung me by my own beliefs.
I held on tight, surviving by the skin of my teeth.
I raised my head up high and took a look into your eyes,
Searching for light I embarked into my own demise.

I gave you what you want in hopes that it was what you need
Tread the ground barefoot so all the blisters bleed.
The dog he's only learned to love and stay,
But he wants to get away, he needs to get away.

Now you know I've found a place to hide,
Got to run somewhere, leave you, girl you know I've tried.
I'm stuck reviewing the memories of our yesterday,
But I want to get away, I need to get away.

Walking the forest whispering to all silent trees.
I can feel the change, and relate to all falling leaves.
The world bears down and my legs won't seem to stand,
'Guess I'm just arrogant, too stupid to see I've done all that I can.

Old dog, new trick

You can teach an old Dog a new trick

But

The Dog will do its old tricks more

Because

It knows them better

Tapestry

Upon the wall it's hanging there When I am bored I often stare Done in reds, browns and various hues It often picks me up when I have the blues It's not three dimensional but quit square Filling the space which would otherwise be bare On the front depicts the view of a man and his dog sled team in rows of two Perhaps it's the memories from whence it came That brings me such joy and is to blame For the many hours spent gazing Upon my tapestry with the midnight sun blazing!

Low Man Is Due

A low man is due...
My eyes seek reality,
My fingers feel for faith.
Touch clean with a dirty hand,
I touch the clean to the waste.
I fall cause I let go,
The net below has rot away.
And I cry to the alleyway,
Confess all to the rain.
But I lie straight to the mirror,
The one I've broken to match my face.
The fire is so warm,
But nowhere safe from the storm.
And I can't bear to see,
What I've let me be.
So wicked and worn.
So as I write to you,
Of what is done and to do.
Maybe you'll understand,
I won't cry for this man.
Cause low man is due.
So low the sky is all I see,
All I want from you is forgive me.
My eyes seek reality,
And my fingers seek my veins.
There's a dog at your back step,
He must come in from the rain.
But you bring that poor dog in from the rain,
Though he just wants right back out again.
So my fingers feel for faith,
And my eyes seek reality.
So as I write to you,
Of what is done and to do.
Maybe you'll understand,
I won't cry for this man.
Cause low man is due.

Front Porch Stepp

I'm sitting on my front porch stepp
Me my brew my dog named Shepp
Watching all the lovely people driving by

Some even stop just to talk to me
Others drive by thinking I don't see
Some on the phone just like they're at home
All of them so scared to be alone

I'm sitting on my front porch step
Me my brew my dog named Shepp
Watching all the lovely people driving by

If I had my way I'd just
Make them smile
Just to make them happy each, and every mile
Just to make their journey seem, worth their while

I'm sitting on my front porch step
Me my brew my dog named Shepp
Watching all the lovely people driving by
People driving by

Lazy Hound Dog Blues

The alarm goes off, I open my eyes to face the day
I roll back over to sleep it away
The wife begins to preach to me
No work, unemployed, I am free
I go to the unemployment office and talk to the man
He looks at my state and says he will do what he can
The man asks me which of the three jobs I choose
I don't want a job, I guess I've got those Lazy Hound Dog Blues
I go outside, sit at the bench and wait for the bus
I've got nowhere to be, I ain't in no rush
It's getting to be late in the afternoon
Getting hungry and will be home soon
My wife left me a note saying were through
At the moment I don't care, it's the curse of the lazy hound dog blues
I tell myself tomorrow I will look for a job
Gotta clean myself up, no one will hire a slob
The alarm goes off I hit the snooze
Not today, I am nagged by those lazy hound dog blues
My wife calls, says she wants to work things out
I try to explain, she begins to shout
She won't listen what's the use
I tell there is a cure for the flu
But how do you shake the lazy hound dog blues

C'est la vie

Old dead dog lies in the street.

Why? What has killed her?

Famine, cold or cruelty?

She wants nothing now,

She does not dream about anything.

How much she had of grief and sorrow.

But how much she gave to her owner

of love and help!

Now the old dead dog lies in the street.

But why don’t people take off their hats?
