the worm poem

A Certain Kind Of Death

She was in love
Their expression of it
Was the perfection of it
The way they shared
Was beyond compare
Today is the culmination
Of their dedication
Today she is pregnant
Overwhelmed overjoyed
Her heart sings
Then the phone rings

At the hospital
Next to her dead husband
How is the possible
Why did this happen
Grief stricken
But not heartbroken
She still had a piece of him
She had to be strong
For their child
Even though he was gone
She had to march on

Pain and spot bleeding
Getting ready for birthing
No rhyme or reason
For complication
She took care of her body
Took care of her baby
Its two months too soon
For the child to leave the womb
Lacking strength and power
It only lived an hour
She could only scream

No strength to go through the motions
She hasn’t seen family or friends
Trying to find something within
nothing left to give
No reason to live
she is dead inside
Her memories fading away
She’s doesn’t want to lose them
Tries to hold on to them
She racks her brain all day
Trying to find a way
To keep them fresh and vibrant

It came to her at a convenience store
A fisherman was buying some worms
She saw them wiggling
Saw them moving
So she bought all they had
She knew she had gone mad
But she didn’t want to be alone
Lying in her bed
Longing for the dead
She put the worms in her womb
And pretended her baby was alive

Her days where filled with joy
They where going to have a boy
Her husband would stay home
He could finally feel it kick and move
His happiness was there only wish
They would love and cherish
Every moment of everyday
A happy family
For everyone to envy
She wasn’t alone anymore
She was no longer ripped and torn

Her evenings were horrifying
She wasn’t just taking worms out
She was reliving her baby dying
She never once heard it crying
Never got to hold it in her arms
Failed to keep it from harm
She was useless
She was helpless
She should have died too
She should have kept inside her
Even if it had killed her

She decided one day
To keep her baby
Decided not let the doctors take it away
She started to feel some pain
She decided on a name
She can barely move now
She would keep David safe somehow
She’s constantly bleeding and convulsing
She can feel his life pulsating
She gave birth before she died
And David was the only one that cried

Celebrating A Birth

Isn't life a joy beyond imagining
When a child is born to us?
Can there be any greater happening
When families become a chorus?
Oh sweet melody of life's golden symphony
Pregnant seasons birthing spring
Nothing can compare to the cacophony
Of a baby when first she sings.
Look: she smiles, she beams,
Her eyes seraphic twinkle, deep blue-green,
Enchanting, magically enticing, endearing,
Urging her mother to a hug, a kiss
Soft as the early sun on her puffy cheeks.
Captivating, she melts the heart,
Then strikes, straight at the delicious milk
Of her mother's full sweet breast.

Goodbye, My Child

Where cradled canyons sing
Of ebony wood in the forest
There lies a gurgling spring
Where cockcrows sing their chorus
To the melody of singsong birds
There I’ve concealed my sensuous words
Filled with befitted signs
The saccharine whiff of my designs

Come to me my mortal youth
To the wild realm of your truth
Where nymphs and gnomes abound
For the earth is filled with weeping
And only your tears be found

Where the fogs of night are fountains
Spills of glistened moon ignite
By distant silhouette mountains
We dance with passion of fight
Entwining ancient stance
Mingling hand in hand we dance
Till the mountains smile on high
Near and far we spring
To pursue the realest of dreams
While the world cries at its seams
Anxious in trouble to cling

Come to me my mortal youth
To the wild realm of your truth
Where nymphs and gnomes abound
For the earth is filled with weeping
And only your tears be found

To where the ridges merry make
From the beaks of wooden bright
In sparkly pools the ghouls awake
That scarce to stir our night
We watch for seekers down under
Muttering secrets in their soul
We bid them lucks of shivers
Dipping gently in
From reeds that hide a tear of a foal
Under the gentle rivers

Come to me my mortal youth
To the wild realm of your truth
Where nymphs and gnomes abound
For the earth is filled with weeping
And only your tears be found

Far away she shall ever churn
The taciturn eyed
She’ll listen no more to turn
To the working mills beside
Or the scrubbing of the barn
May peace weave in her song
She shall wave in the yarn
To a haven known as Belong

Come to me my mortal youth
To the wild realm of your truth
Where nymphs and gnomes abound
For the earth is filled with weeping
And only your tears be found

For she comes, the mortal youth
To the wild realm of her truth
Where nymphs and gnomes abound
For the earth is filled with weeping
And only her tears be found

Through the Door

Can you see them run to me – arms wide and laughing,
calling me, Mama: keeper of the stars, moon and hearts?
Can you see them kiss away my pain, healing every hurt
that’s ever marked me broken, dead or dying?

Can you see them hurt me? When they curse me, flay me;
ground me with their unformed anger and bravado-uncertainty
until they fly behind doors, crying over what they’ve said –
wishing they could take it back?

O’, does that pride HURT!
It stabs the chest and holds…holds…holds.
Can you see them behind doors and feel their wishful hearts burn?
Can you feel them loving me through it all?
Love is not something easily hidden. Love like that breaks down doors –
                                    sees through them.
Can you see my tears; feel the weight of them on your cheeks?
They are yours.
Where you are (past the furthest/closest door) can you see me in them?
Can you see the love I kept hidden in my dark and painful dungeon?
You never knew what he did to me – but deep down, I blamed you anyway.
There was only you left, you see; always you.
Can you see, I'm just like you?

If you can see me, you know.
And if you can hear me crying through this God Damned pen (all those notes –
all those written sorry’s slipped beneath doors - you must have known that
even at 37, I’d write you my heart in a note!)

You, Gran/Mother, are my one and only regret.
That for 7 years, I treated you like a burden, a bother, and a barrier.
I treated you like you should have treated me – an unintentional intruder;
like something taken, not given.
But worse than that, I treated you like an acquaintance.
Knowing how badly that must have hurt you, makes me want to be kicked in the face
until I am unrecognizable; to the rest of the world, and myself.

But life’s not like that, is it? No. You knew that, too.

My baby boy has your nose, ears, and eyes.
Do you think that if I whisper in his ear tonight while he sleeps (between you and me –
at the doorway), you could hear me?
Tonight, I will whisper love in his perfect ear (pressed up against heaven’s door) -
maybe you will hear me say,

“Indy…Gran, I’m so sorry. If you can hear me, please give me a sign so I will know
you’ve heard me. I want to see you smile again – just one more time…please…
let me know that somewhere, behind the door, you forgive me…”

And in the darkness of his bedroom; the moonlight covering his small face
like an angel’s kiss, the baby boy in her likeness, smiled.

Forever In My Heart

Sometimes I look around me
and I see an empty space
where you might be playing
a sweet smile on your face
You might be calling out to me
asking me to play
and I would be there with you
and you would fill my day

At bedtime when I read to you
before I tucked you in
I would open up my arms
and you would climb right in
I would kiss your baby cheek
and tell you "you're my love"
then I would hold you close to me
and thank the Lord above...

But when I look around again
there's just an empty space
no toys scattered on the floor
no shinning little face
I'll never hear you call my name
or watch you as you grow
but you will always be with me
no matter where I go

I know there is a heaven
and I know that you are there
and you have a better life
than I could give you here
until I take my final breath
I will always pray
that through God's most precious gift
I'll be with you someday

Then I will take you in my arms
and hold you close to me
your laughter will ring in my ears
your smiling face I'll see
we will be together
my precious baby boy
and then the only tears I'll cry
will be ones of joy

I hope that you can hear me
I have so much to say
but I never had the chance
since you left me that day
for now I want to tell you
that I love you so
and I'm so very sorry
that you had to go

If you could have stayed with me
my dream would have come true
and I know I would have done
anything for you
and even though you went away
and we must be apart
I know you will always live
forever in my heart

Call Me Baby

Call Me Baby
I must confess I’ve caused a lot of mess, blatantly calling you nasty names, playing all kinds of childish games. I used to think you couldn’t get enough of me because I was hot stuff. Never thought you would ever leave - that you would always stay, I believed. Now you don't call since you've been gone… like the proverbial cheese, I am standing all alone.
Without you, Baby, I’m feeling so crazy, really scatter-brained and hazy. I feel like such a big fool losing you and losing my cool. Tell me this is truly not the end; please give me a second chance to make amends. I’m sorry I did you wrong; so sorry for stringing you along. Please let me make it up to you; I’ll do whatever it takes to start anew.
We were so wonderful together; I promise this time it’ll be even better. I miss being your leading lady… please, please call me Baby.

Treasure of My Soul

I held an angel in my arms today,
A precious babe snuggled against my breast.
And my heart was overwhelmed with so much love,
As she lay contentedly at rest.

I watched her as she slept so soundly,
Gazed at her cherub face in sweet repose.
I marveled at her tiny features,
Like her dainty shell-like ears and button nose.

I brushed my lips against her downy head,
Her skin like velvet to my touch.
I gave thanks to God above for His priceless blessing
Of this little angel girl I love so much.

The birth of my first grandchild has awakened,
A joy that my soul cannot contain.
From day one my heart's been captured by her,
Firmly caught and held by love's strong chain.

While You Sleep

While you sleep I tell you all of the things I keep inside throughout day.
Now that you can hear but not listen I find them much easier to say.
My hopes, my dreams, my fears, and everything in between
Your subconscious hears so keen, or so it seems.
My tongue is soft; I speak so sweetly
Knowing your reaction will never greet me.

Tonight will be different in what I want you to know.
It has everything to do with what I can’t help but show.
I hold no claim to any religion but you’ve given me a place for my faith.
Somewhere it will never stale or lose its lavish taste.
You’ve shown me something I can see, touch, and feel,
And so before it I choose to kneel.

I know I don’t say it but I miss you every day.
Sitting, thinking of the perfect words to be my choice,
Yet when you call I can’t find any of the right words to say.
I’m just happy to finally hear your voice.
Even just a moment is enough to sooth my heavy heart;
Fearing the ends of conversations knowing we’ll have to part.

I’ll never be too far from you, always within arm’s reach,
And in your days of darkness I’ll be the light that you will seek.
I’ll never let you leave too far from me, I’ll stay close behind you in this world;
Secretly protecting what is mine, you will always be my girl.
I only want the best for you so the best of me I will employ.
Faithfully yours, I will always be your boy.

I close my eyes and kiss your soft sweet lips
And see the very best of you in loving bliss.
I see past the physical which makes you attractive
And focus on the things I can’t see in which I’m attracted.
Your thoughts I’d love to hear them all.
Of the things you speak disinterest never makes its call.

My day will come, I know someday I’ll be the only one.
And you I will pursue viciously,
Because I’ve given you the greatest gift I can give, to love unconditionally.
Yes our day will come, I know someday we’ll be as one.
And you I will pursue viciously,
Because I’ve given you the greatest gift I can give… to love unconditionally.

You're my Cup of Tea

Your sweetness tasted like cherries
Your smell scented like fresh strawberries
Your words filly as ripened bananas
Your act sour like my lemon trees
Long ago i was your good cup of tea
Long ago you were a star in my universe
my forever lover to be......
Dear baby you left on that plane,
promised me you'll be back again,
but words were just words...
dreams written in a whole book of vain,
It took me so long to get over the heartache
It took me so long to get over the pain.

I can still remember the end of December,
Distant phone call confirmed wedding
bells in cloudy September,ringing
bells for for you and your bride to be.
I faked a smile,a lady in style,Congratulatons
across the ocean, across much more than a mile,
You came back full of regret, stating
i'm the one you couldn't forget,NO Bells
in September,it passed and gone,but
dear baby i found New dawn,i'm
very sorry i had to move on...

Please dear Baby stop crying,
hot tears brushed my cheeks long before,
Just leave me alone!stop the knocks
knock knocking on my wooden door,i met
Somebody Special who loves me much
more.Dear baby go play in your cradle,
Your mami needs a papi today
a papi who doesn't like rattles,
a papi who 's too old t play

Yesterday i was your good cup of tea
and you were all that mattared to me...
That was Yesterday,i live for today!
Yes, baby that was Yesterday,Now
i've met somebody who looks only my way....
i'm in love with him,he's in love with me,
and we are to marry in the month of May

Son

You came to me on angels wings
Your smile was so divine,
I looked into your big blue eyes
Not believing you were mine.

With skin so soft and hair of down
You came to me that day,
And as I held you on my breast
You stole my heart away.

Sweet child if you could ever know
The love I felt for you,
As the years flew quickly by
That love just grew and grew.

So I’ll just quietly watch you grow
Into a man my son.
I want you to know what a privilege it is
For me to be your mom.

MIRACLE AT DAWN

No mother would fill up her eyes with tears of woman...
if it weren't for God performing a miracle at dawn,
as she cried out in joy and held her baby in trembling arms
but shed many sweet tears hearing his laughter so loud;
oh, he couldn't see her mommy's face through his tiny eyes,
and it will be long before he'll will utter the first word, " Mom."

Now that baby sleeps under the attentive look of his mom,
who's too young to become a mature woman;
many visions of this birth crossed her gleeful eyes
she dreamed of the very same words whispered at each dawn,
repeating them in her silly head as if they sounded too loud...
while cradling a pretty doll in her folded arms.

Will she be welcomed home by her parents opening their arms?
Will they reprimand her and not consider her a legal mom?
Perhaps they will not be angry and speak not so loud:
girls are supposed to be girls, not suddenly turn into woman...
So this innocent girl, deceived by a bad boy, must wake up at dawn
when her baby cries and feed him with scary, childish eyes?

Nights seem longer for her, trying to stay awake rubbing her eyes,
what she beheld in those exciting eyes, now it's a burden in her weary arms;
she remembers that pain was too unbearable, but joy more sublime at dawn...
how will she learn how to care for the infant by watching her mom?
She must have seen a nursery or read a book how to think like a real woman,
and can anyone imagine how she keeps that secret instead of revealing it loud?

She must gather enough courage inside to feed her baby who can't cry loud,
but for now she must carry that baby without sighs of distress into her bright eyes;
and her parents can see the changes making her a loving person already woman;
they may ask questions to why she has gained weight and holds dolls in her arms...
no, they aren't anticipating great news and in doubt, they await a splendid dawn.

Mother and daughter closely together amazed by the coming dawn,
any concealed secret can be easily spoken...somewhat joyful and loud;
they imagine the infant's futures will be part of grandma and mom!
Their reunited hearts come together to show love in their delighted eyes,
and they'll take turns feeding the new-born, tenderly lulling him in their arms;
what if forgiveness hadn't been there to deny her all of the joys of woman?

Would a mother deny her daughter compassion as a good woman?
Even God hurried dawn to offer that gift into her gracious, tender arms...
and those arms accepted it with the gentleness and kindness of mom.

Season After Season

I still remember, when we first met
The day your parents bought this farm
So small, you hardly could walk at all
as your Father held both your arms

But for some reason, I could not fathom
You made your way straight to me
And I alone in all this land
became your favorite maple tree

When your were six, you picked up sticks
That fell from limbs of mine
And like a sword to thrash the hoards
you raised them to the sky

At nine years old, you made a swing
with a length of rope and tire
and swung from my biggest bow
as I bid you each time "Higher"

When you turned twelve, your Father built
your dream house, on my limbs
and for the first time, I did envy
the daughter given him

At eighteen years, another came
with ring in hand to wed
and take you far away from me
A day I new I'd dread

Now years went by and seasons past
Then one day what'd I see
You all grown up and walking
with Your baby, straight to ME !

I Wuv Wu Daddyyyy

Lying in the incubator amid her nursery ?
Tiny eyes fixated upon the light as gazing
Beyound this wall of glass; their little heart
Swaying soft purity while they stare; lovely
Such innocence entering into a brand new
World and reaching these, precious hands
Trembling with joy their Spirit recognizing
Love's touch; in this, the apple of life's eyes
Lifting them gently from birth's white pillow...
Whispering as cradling Beauty's kiss; a breath.

THE NAUGHTY PEN

The Naughty Pen

She loves my naughty pen
Little wonder why her bunk shook
The last night I visited
Between the boards of her heart my verses are vast
Written with unspoken words
Littered with love language
Only her heart can decode
The naughty pen’s code

She loves my naughty pen
Because of its beautiful rhymes
The reverie of having my pen made her snore
As we snore
I swim through her imaginations
Exploring and emancipating her innermost
Conquering her doubts
Surpassing her body
Plowing the unknown
Building fences around her garden

She loves my naughty pen
And my pen love her I swear
But I hope she won’t stone my pen to death
For its naughtiness
Even if she does
My pen shall resurrect on the third day
Because no stone can kill true love

She kissed my naughty pen
Like a mother whose child needs lullaby
Caressing my innocent lips with her wet lips
As a baby pen, I cuddled between her two tender layers
Standing between her chest
The baby pen sucks her milk
Thus making her sobbed, saying; ‘crazy baby’
The sand hill stood straight, pleasure mixed with imagery
Dragging the night into an endless quest of possibilities…
Possibilities encoded with lyrics

I gave her my naughty pen the last night we met
Now, she is accusing the lyrics of my pen of being naughty
And yet, she is smiling all the way, asking for naughtier pen
Is it a crime to express my innermost feeling?
Is it a crime to build true imagery and fantasy?
Is it a crime that the mental state of my pen’s imagination is naughty?
Is it a crime that my pen loves her; and she loves my pen much more?
Much more because the frequencies of her heart beat is stronger than Rhythm FM

To my bosom friend
My naughty pen loves you
Stop acting shyness
Shyness is for the weak at heart
My pen is ready to go hungry for a century to proof this;
Ready to surmount Mount Everest for you;
Ready to blow you kisses when the night is dark and fear arises;
Ready to stand by you when the arrows of life rail at you;
Ready to cover you when the night is cold and cruel
Ready to make you feel like a woman
Ready to forgive and forgive, and forgive…
I love you….the naughty pen

Once Upon A Time

This is a poem about the future I'd love to have with the boy of my dreams.
None of this has actually happened yet (besides us falling in love with eachother) but it's how I would like it to happen.

Once upon a time, I became the luckiest girl in the world. I fell in love with a gorgeous boy with blue eyes, and he actually loved me back. He was like my prince, he treated me like his princess and would do anything for me. Today, we're united as King and Queen. It's been years, but walking down the aisle I'm still staring at the cutest, most perfect guy I've ever seen. When our lips finally meet after parting to say "I do", it tastes like Heaven.

Once upon a time, I married a gorgeous boy with blue eyes. And today, I saw those perfect blue eyes light up when he first held our little girl in his arms. She's got her Daddy's blue eyes and just a little bit of her Momma's brown hair. She's going to be spoiled and loved more than possible. She'll know we support her no matter what, and she can tell us everything. It will be perfect.

Once upon a time, one set of blue eyes became two, and we were made into a family. Now, that second pair of blue eyes is walking out the door to college, with a suitcase in one hand and a boy's hand in the other. He better love her and treat her just as well as her Daddy does.

Once upon a time, I fell in love with a gorgeous boy with blue eyes. His hair has dulled and grayed but his eyes are the same, and they've seen a lifetime's worth of happiness and love. My baby had babies with the boy she walked out the door with, and I can tell she loves them as much as we loved her. Now it's her time to live.

Ever So Sweet-

Her cotton candy cheeks,
glow like pink marshmallows.
And dark chocolate curls
adorn her pretty head.

She sports blueberry eyes
and red liquorice lips.
And a creamy face with
a million dollar smile.

A confectionery
treat, she’s extraordinaire.
And gives sugared kisses
that tastes ever so sweet.

You

You lied there that night, the pain you felt was so hard for me, but a brave face was all you made I was there, useless as always. Your hand in mine, I felt so helpless. I could feel your fear as the time wore on, the doctor not helping at all. Hours passed and the pain grew but I was with you, not knowing what to do. I could see you questioning yourself. As if you felt unworthy. I knew better, you were so strong, but I wasn't. Fifteen hours later I could take no more as the fear in you grew and the doctor reached for you. Can't you see somethings wrong! They made me leave and took you. I was so scared but you never knew. I sat waiting for an eternity, then out of the blue, I heard a voice speaking to me. The doctor came from the operating room. He had something in his hand as he walked slowly toward me with concern on his face I stood, numb, and looked in the dish he held. He said the cord was rapped around her shoulder and this, as he glanced at the dish, is what caused the pain, but you were OK. I felt weak as I listened to what he had to say. but, you were OK was all I heard. The nurse soon came, "It's a girl," she said as I looked through the plastic case. So, perfect and beautiful she lay there calm serene, perfect purple fingers and bright red hair. She was you and my eyes filled as I looked at her, at you, my beautiful Babe.

Cut By The Knife

I am young
I am old
I am soft
I am bold
I can laugh
I can cry
I can quit
Still, I can try
Days they pass
Turn to night
Then come dreams
Lost in flight
Can't change the world
Can't stop the rain
But if I could
I would end all of the pain
For I am one
In all that exist
Throughout the years
Throughout the mist
Yet here comes my chance
Or so goes my life
Caught by the windmill....

Damn, Baby Do You Know That You Are Mine

For you my sweet angel I would die, I'd pick the stars for you from the sky. I want to hold you in my arms, To keep you safe from all type of harms. My love is pure eternal and true, Inside my heart is the place for you. The girl I love and have given my heart, To live entire life and never depart. You fair, gorgeous, beautiful and fine, Damn baby you don't know that you are mine.

Loneliness and Despair

Tears oozed down my cheeks
As I read the unknown woman’s
last mystic diary entry:

The pain lingers:
Remembering the smooth skin of his face.
My heart is empty.
I can still feel the velvety touch
As my fingers ran down the contours
Of his soft skinned nape,
tickling him on the sides of his ribs,
Hearing him giggle and gurgle:
Ecstasy....then silence!
For he was no more.
Kissing him, I bid him good night
and the sun has never risen ever since!
Dust to dust and I am now
In an empty place,
An estrangement from the world,
A lost soul miserably trying
But failing not to despair.
I cannot weep but forlorn I sweat.
The sun sets in a blaze of fire,
The time for a hug dissipated.
Alas no such fire in me.
A cold soul wondering why,
Hoping it will survive
many other empty sleepless nights.

Am I cruel to transcribe this sad entry?
What right have I to publish that
which was evidently a private confession?
Tears, unrestrained, oozed down my cheeks .

A Strong Man Like A Baby in Her Arms

He is a strong man: unbendable, unbreakable…steel
He is a brave man
He fights his battles
He claims his victories
Vicious and fierce when the need arises
Protective and overly zealous
A fighter
A gladiator who can wound
To protect what is his
A strong man by day
Everyday

But then at night, oh sweet blessed night
A strong man like a baby in her arms
He is covered in her scented softness
She lets him suckle at her breast
Feeding him her soul
Nourishing him
Whispering in his ear
As she runs her hand through his hair
Gently binding his wounds from battle
Caressing his taught muscles with fragrant oil
Soothing him
Crooning to him
Letting the last sound in his ears
To be her melodious lullaby of love
Her mighty warrior...her baby

He drifts off into sleep
Covered in her blanket of charms
Safe from all harm
A strong man like a baby in her arms

Baby - Love is at the door

Baby, it’s you I adore
With you… I want to explore
With you… I want so much more
My heart is knocking at your door

Night after night
My emotions you ignite
My chest is tight
No longer can I fight
You feel so right
With you… I reach new heights

Tonight’s the night
My destinations in sight
My heart… the guiding light
My love… I will recite
When we unite… Tonight…

Baby Blue Jeans

She wears her kindness, a full length gown  as if it were a pair of baby blue jeans  soft in color, tough in its fabric. She is adorned in silk  refracts incoming ideas  produces her own. Like the shimmer  of this same silk  she is brilliant! Her embrace is boundless. Her exuberance unmatched. She is "music". Paints with the bold strokes of her guitar, the perfect pitch of her voice, natures smile. She is an original, nothing like you. She is  passionate, exactly like you. She offers all this, more. Chooses you. "I love her with every fiber..." Often I wonder. With so many beautiful words  attaching themselves so easily to women why would any man ever need to lie...

Elephant Leg

There’s a part of you
I cannot see or touch.

In the dark, alone, I know
every curve of your body.
I could sculpt you from memory.
Each detail vivid in
my mind’s eye.

The baby nail on your baby toe.
This neck that takes to kissing.
I know the moment when your
hip becomes belly.
Just there.

But there’s a part of you I
cannot see or touch. Hidden, I want to
know it all the more.
Behind your eyes, inside
your heart, that essential
you, separate from this
fragile tissue hanging, draped, over bone.

I watch you move when
you’re not looking.
Standing, your toes curling.
Twisting the end of your hair while thinking.
Asleep, I know your breathing.
You hold the morning cup like a chalice.
Little lines around your eyes deepen sometimes.

These things are pieces of a whole I ache to know.
This elephant leg obscured by sightless eyes can
be anything. Groping blindly toward
the totality of you, revealed in fits and starts.

This life of mine no longer turned inward.
Every day I have new discoveries to make.

The Baby Blue Bonnet

The smile on one's face makes them feel glad again
My sister always had a smile to share
Once came time for her birthday,
A handsome boy came to call
And along with him,
A baby blue bonnet that pleased us all.

The smile on her face showed us she was glad
She leaned in a gave a sweet little kiss
Then the Civil War started and he had to go
She would be crying for him.

The bleak war raged on
Many were dead
She was pining for him.

The sheets of casualties came and they left
Many were torn to pieces
My sister dear cried,
"He has died and left me!"
She hugged the dear baby blue bonnet.

The time was bleak when she claimed the body
Sister dear had to wear black
When came the funeral,
She brought with her
The beloved baby blue bonnet

She refused to wear the hideous black hat
"Instead the bonnet!" she cried
For she would remember
The sunny day when,
He gave her the baby blue bonnet.

Why Baby Why

Why Baby Why?

Every time I see your face,
it makes me want to cry.
From the moment that we met,
until the night we said goodbye.

Your smooth dark skin, wavy hair
and big brown flashing eyes.
When you told me that you loved me,
was that one of your first lies?

You used to be so kind to me,
you made me feel like gold.
But you changed your ways and done me wrong,
it was like I was bought and sold.

You smiled at me and made me weak,
was it all a great big game?
The way you walked, the way you talked,
the way you called my name.

What happened to us baby,
you never really said.
I thought you really cared for me,
was it only in my head?

Now you left me all alone,
whatever will I do?
The times we shared, the love we made,
how come I never knew?

Your with another woman now,
I see you most every day.
Sometimes I think I see you look,
was there something you what to say?

Maybe that you did me wrong,
and it was all a big mistake.
If that is it, I hate to say,
I think your much too late.

I've learned my lesson when you left,
I'll never give my heart again.
You hurt me bad and that's no lie,
I don't think I will ever mend.

Maybe when I'm old and gray,
I'll stop my thoughts of you.
When they ask me what went wrong,
I'll say I never knew.
