Cry of the City

We will walk then, you and I

When daylight shuts her weary eye;

Down the streets where beggars sleep

And drug crazed addicts spend their keep.

On streets that wind through thick and thin

Past monuments of broken sin

The painted whores who smile a lot

A rejected child that time forgot.

The evening hymn that sorrows sing

The call to prayer that church bells ring;

The sounds and smells that rape a city

The calls for help that won't find pity.

Do we have time to heal the curse

That captures all the universe

Or would it really be worthwhile

To quell the question with a smile?

But we have walked these streets before

And hoped our ears could dim the roar

Of silence gripping cold nightmares

That come unbidden up the stairs.

We share the night with lesser fools

Who stake their plight without sound rules

For each new challenge finds old pain

That lives to give then comes again.

My weakness

        GOD

Wondrous of many blessings.
Smiling never a frown.
My prayers, Lord, are suddenly being ignored.
I've taken a tumble of fallen down
Lord, my life was plain and simple
How did it come to this?
Lord, now I carry a burden so deep
A torn up life not easy to fix
Hard to get my prayers before I sleep
Bleeding only internally!
Feeling very minutely!
God, have you deserted me or is it me who deserted you?

God, my Lord, my savior, how could you abandon me?
Must I drown in my own sorrow?
Must I wake up like this today and tomorrow.
Why have you left me, or is it me who left you?

God, I need you like never before.
When I wake up,
When I head out the door.
Tormented in a mood ring of stock
Heavily my tears hit the floor.
God, do you not feel me, or is it me who no longer feel you?

God, what is your plan for me?
What things did I not see?
I asked for you to forgive me in my ways of sin.
Why do you let him provoke me?
Lord, I forbid for him to win.
Relieve me from his gutless pain.
God, do you not believe me, or is it me who no longer believe in you?

God, do you not hear my call
My pitiful excuses make me weak and small
In your eyes, I no longer feel tall
I remain cursed in every single fall
Lord, only you can break this wall
Do you not see me on my knees
Must I beg and crawl?
I am at your mercy, crying out with grief
Open the path to the lighted hall
O' Lord, the day you judge me before your throne
Please tell me it was a lesson for me to stand up on my own
God for now I will end this talk
With the dignity to never look back
I ask if you were there on my endless journey of a relentless walk?

A PSALM OF PRAISE AND WORSHIP

If the Lord isn't for me, why do I live?
If the Lord does not bless me, why am I here?
If the Lord isn't for me, why am I here?
If the Lord does not bless me, why do I live?

I know I am a sinner repressed.
I know I am saved through prayer.
On bended knees, I am as a child of God.
As I grew older, I lifted my head up to clouds.
Somehow, my path swayed.

If the Lord does not anoint me, why do I sing?
If I am not blessed via his blood, why do I live?

Nobody knows my troubles better than Lord does.
My life is enshrined because of the omnipotent.
Through a sacred path, I seek the Lord guidance.
Redeemed through his grace, I worship and praise.

If the Lord does not guide me, why do I live?
If the Lord does not supply my needs, why am I here?

I know I am a sinner repressed.
I know I am saved through prayer.
On bended knees, I am as a child.
As I grew older, I hoisted my head up to sky
Somehow, my path swayed but now, my life is saved.

If I am not a crusader for the Lord, why am I here?
If I am not on the battlefield for the Lord, why am I here?

Nobody knows my troubles better than Lord does.
My life is transmogrified because of the omnipotent.
Through a sacred path, I seek the Lord guidance.
Redeemed through his grace, I give the Lord God the highest praise.

To My Redeemer...

If the Lord isn't for me, why do I live?
If the Lord does not bless me, why am I here?
If the Lord isn't for me, why am I here?
If the Lord does not bless me, why do I live?

Laughter, the Best Medicine

We live in a world where sickness abounds, Sometimes stumping the best of providers. Symptoms and tests almost always expound, While the emotional costs grow wider. The travel and care and expenses we bare, In dollars and tears for a healing. Pale when compared, with the voluminous prayers, Our reverence and humility kneeling. Seeing through to the end, great strength we must take, And the position that attitude matters. A stiff upper lip and a smile sometimes fake, Anything less, and fragile hope easily shatters. Yet until we’re called home, to streets paved with gold, Or abodes filled with love and affection, Widely known in the hearts, of the young and the old, Laughter remains, life's greatest healing medication!

Aboriginal Sin

We made arrows from feather and bone
before burning down our homes,
our footsteps slinking
over undulating, snow-covered hills.
____

The animals residing inside my head
follow me into the forest
where I cross streams to lose my scent.

Bugles blare in the distance,
but at my feet, the hounds lay open,
bleeding-out in morning's fresh snowfall.

These moments invoke an original sin.
I could fell a million men with the softest of blossoms -
slay a million men with a gentle, whispered caress.

And so I pray for my hate to be replaced by grace,

since you are the other half of my heart and hearth,
since you are also a victim to the plague,
it's all I can do, to atone for my Aboriginal sin.

To All Of You

There are times we are left to cope
With situations that drain our hope

Leaving us full of despair
At how some people just don't care

About the evil that they do
To good people like all of you

We are left to somehow face
That in mankind there is disgrace

And those of us left alive
Must find away to survive

As you pick up the pieces of your life
Without your mother, father, husband or wife

And some of you God forbid
Without the love of your kids

We must band together with a brotherhood
Show that in this world there is some good

Because we are together in this deal
We try to help each other heal

We seek in each other good advice
And offer each other sacrifice

We hold each other in prayer and song
As we continue to re-build the wrong

Because what else in the world can we do
Except let the light of good shine through

The evil darkness and despair
Of a catastrophic lack of care

We want you to know you are not alone
Think of America as a giant cone

And all of us are funneling through
Our prayers and hopes to all of you

Battle Scars

Don’t judge that kid with her arms all scarred
Don’t brand that kid as bad
You never would have survived
If you had the life she had
So say a prayer and show you care
She’s paid more than her share of dues
Don’t put her down or say bad things
Until you’ve walked that mile in her shoes
Those who suffered in war earn respect
They are greeted like super stars
She came from a war you wouldn’t understand
On her arms, the battle scars
Her own home was the battle zone
The desperation, feeling all alone
A situation she felt no escape from
Then late at night the urges come
Innocence lost like a bad dream
No self respect, no self esteem
It is an ongoing battle to feel whole
You can see the beauty within her soul
Sometimes I pray for a Judgement day
You have no heart if you look away
Flashbacks come and the anger stirs
The guilt she carries isn’t hers
There is a need for justice long past due
A need for acceptance from me and you
With anger, despair and fear demanding
The child needs some understanding
In spite of all the tears she cried
There are still battle scars deep inside

A Meadow's Sigh

The meadow’s breath a gift to all, the mist, the morning dew,
a silent sigh, a heartfelt call, a prayer to me and you.

Green and warm, full of life, the forest's skirt, the Maid's delight,
where rabbits dwell in lovers’ dells, a dream in morning light.

Gold and bright, full of life, the forest's skirt and Knight's delight;
life lies in grasses high, where lovers sleep and passion cries.

White and fair, full of life, the forest's skirt of pearly white;
burrowers sleep in bowers deep, hearths alight on chill nights.

The meadow's breath a gift to all, the mist, the morning dew;
a silent sigh, a heartfelt call, a prayer to me and you.

The men have made the meadow home, no rabbits now play there,
no deer appear so near the roads for cars bring them dispare.

The meadow was home to many things, butterflies, birds on wing,
yet, few can dwell where men reside, the forest's skirt swept aside.

The meadow’s breath a gift to all, the mist, the morning dew,
a silent sigh, a heartfelt call, a prayer to me and you.

Revive the Breakage

High upon the highest heights I see the most tremulous sight A small girl, fair and tranquil Smiling strangely, sitting still Beneath a sobbing willow tree She recites a verse upon her knee She sings a rhythmic hymn Not of death, nothing grim But prays that life will return Even for those who are doomed to burn The girl is a woman now Beneath the tree and upon the cloud She whispers, “I am watching you” Why then are you so blue? A single tear of sadness and joy Rejuvenate the quirky earthly boy Who sits down beneath the blooming tree Listening to her silent voice attentively She reminds him she was once young too That she also was a misty shade of blue But when the boy grows into man He has come to ignore the fair woman Who watches him still from above Burning and swelling with disdainful love The ways of the world have sweltered his heart And time has torn his soul apart Thus he has lost all innocence and light Battling his sinful lust—an endless plight! I watch as he feeds on others’ pains and fears Reducing the vigilant woman to tears The prayer of the innocent has been ignored Life has died and hellfire stored Into the hearts of the impotent In blue, fires of haze their heart is sent Toiling in misery and lament Savaged and severed by our regret The heavenly woman grows old and frail And the man still treads the sinful trail As the rotting tree withers into dust Can I revive it? –I must! Low as low can possibly be I watch myself condescendingly A tombstone, gray and hell-bent Frowning knowingly in bewilderment Above the dust that once was a tree She cries out a verse anxiously Faintly she whispers the undying hymn Not of happiness, nothing of whim And prays that life will come to end For those that break instead of bend

Nothing To Fear

Way before the sunrise is when I start my day
I offer thankfulness in the prayer that I pray

I do love the morning with its beautiful sunrise
Especially when reflecting off clouds in the sky

My life is a journey with my soul as the guide
What makes it beautiful is my wife at my side

My children are my strength; encouraging me
I make sure that everyday is truly all it can be

My friends are many though old-friends are few
For I no longer agree with the things that they do

I still hold them all in my prayers and my heart
Nothing in this life could ever pry them apart

So what is the story the meaning of this rhyme?
The blessing is there if we just follow the sign

To accept the blessings the place we must start
Just be as a child and look through your heart

Be as a child; cherish every one of your dreams
If you wish to feed the river than become a stream

Everything will happen in its own time and place
You will truly find peace once you’ve found grace

Since love is the place where we all need to start
Remember, be kind and gentle to your own heart

One day, “Old Saint Peter,” will open up the gate
There is nothing to fear for heaven will be great

Pledge of love and loyalty

This pledge that l,Ntando, make today serves
as my guideline that I shall follow
happily, ungrudgingly and tirelessly
for the sake of our love life.
Indeed l am well aware of the fact that
the beauty of this pledge does not only lie
in word alone but in action as well.

For that reason in every season
I shall show steadfast commitment
to the implementation of this pledge
with a great deal of astuteness.
I therefore commit myself to be your
devoted and delivering husband for
all the years l shall live with you
on this earth.

I shall treat you with the love and care
you deserve as my wife.
Indeed l shall treat you with
the distinction and dignity
that is befitting of the queen of my heart.
That body, that bone, that breath
shall be my mine to treasure,
for sure;
a dearness to promote and protect
for dear life…and love!
I shall stand by and with you in all the
situations of our life.
If the situation demands that we sail,
sail we shall together.
If the situation demands that we
climb,
climb we shall together.

I know very well what l am getting into:
I am getting into a marriage that is
overflowing with blessings.
This marriage- with our mutual
commitment-
will stand the test of time.
I know very well what I am getting into:
I am getting into a relationship that
brims over with a transforming power
of love.

This marriage-with our
mutual commitment –
will transform naivety into maturity
troubles into challenges
pretence into practice
pride into progress
bachelorship into companionship.
I pledge to be your steward and partner
for all times.

I shall value the consultations
and decisions that we make as
husband and wife.
As head of the family I shall do nothing

to derail our love train for anything else
least of all for personal and selfish reasons.
Now and forever

I am your lawful and loving husband…
This pledge that l, Nothando, make today serves
as my guideline that I shall follow
happily, ungrudgingly and tirelessly
for the sake of our love life.
Indeed I am well aware of the fact that
the beauty of this pledge does not only
lie in pronouncements but in practice
as well.

For this reason every season
I shall demonstrate untiring love
and loyalty to you;
a love and a loyalty that is a living
embodiment of our marriage vows.
I therefore commit myself to be your
honouring, supportive and loving wife
for all the years l shall live with you.
I shall treat you with the love and care
that you deserve as my husband.
Indeed I shall treat you with
the dignity and nobility that is befitting
of the king of my heart.
On my mind it is always fresh
that I am the flesh of your flesh.
Green or grown

I am the bone of your bone.
I know very well what I am getting into:
I am getting into a relationship that
elevates me into a kingdom of wifehood.
I shall endevour to put my family first
with all the rights, obligations
and privileges that come with wifehood.
I shall endevour to wipe off and ward off
loneliness and lostness from our relationship,
seeking nothing but your companionship;
banking on your stewardship,
sinking together any hardship.
Since you are mine
I shall not do anything else to undermine
our relationship for personal
or egotistical
reasons.
Now and forever
I am your lawful and loving wife…

The Hypocritical Christian

I am the hypocritical Christian.
I say I follow Christ,
But I'm still consumed by my demons.
I go to church on Sunday,
But I refuse to invite someone back.
I want to serve on mission,
But I'm too afraid to act.
They think I read The Bible,
But I just fall asleep in it.
They think I'm positivity and smiles,
But underneath I'm death and addictions.
They think I'm clean and pure,
But I'm broken and mistaken.
I say I'm not worthy of His love,
But Jesus will never let me be forsaken.
I pray long prayers,
But inside they're empty repetition.
It might look as if my faith is strong,
But my core is too easily shaken.
I say the things I'm supposed to say,
But don't follow His actions or obey.
I speak the truth the church wants to hear,
But deep inside on matters I don't know what to believe.
I walk in shame as if I'm not good enough
To be loved by God and saved through Christ,
But there is nothing I could ever do to earn His peace;
It's a free gift.
I accept;
Now forgiven, changed, and released.
Thank You God,
Thank You Jesus,
Thank You Holy Spirit!
In Jesus' Holy Name,
We pray,
Amen!

I Need Your Help Daddy

I’m tired
I’m Physically and Emotionally tired
I don’t want to be the strong one anymore
I can’t this time
I don’t know what to do Daddy
I need your help down here

I can’t get back in control of my emotions
I’m having a hard time dealing with your absence
I’m having a hard time standing by myself
I need your help Daddy

I’m broken and lost without you Daddy
I need your will to want to carry on
I need your strength to over come this
I need your strength to stay standing
Your courage to fight back again
I need your help

Please Daddy I’m at a loss
How am I suppose to do this
I need your guidance
I need you to guide me back
To whom I was before
I need your help Daddy
I need your help

Dementia

He was always so happy
strong and bold.
He'd give you the shirt off of his back.
Tough.
Independent.
He had a rough life
growing up through the depression,
but like he always does,
he got through it.
He has two boys, of whom he is so proud.
Moved from Regina, to Victoria.
He had the best life anyone his age could have wanted.
But ever since his wife died,
he has not been the same.
Sad
Lonely
Empty.
But like he has always done,
he got through it.
Mind slipping,
just a little forgetful.
That's how it always starts out...
But like always, he powered through it,
until now...
He is not the same person that I used to know.
He been sentenced to the prison in his own mind.
Possessed by the thoughts of his dogs ashes.
He likes to play the blame game,
but we know he doesn't remember that it was him.
He wakes up in the night
shaking with pain,
tears streaming down his face.
There is nothing we can do,
Oh well...
Two more tylenol.
Hold on to hope
for as long as you can,
It's only a matter of time now.
He gets vocal, a very loud tone.
He'll block you in your room
and make false accusations
But we know that it's the pain induced monster in him.
Tick tock, tick tock...
You can't handle the stress anymore
you have to leave.
Just hope for the best,
maybe it will get better.
Surprise, it doesn't.
Your denial is foolish, everyone knows
what happens next.
Sedation
Medication
Anger
Hurt
All results of
dementia

I will be for you.
All my life that is left, I will live for you,
and when time has run out,
I will die for you.
I will speak your name
in each candle that I light, I will breath your name.
I will whisper you,
every prayer I ever say will be part of you.

For eternity,
and forever it has been, and will always be,
and when I leave this world,
it will go with me.
In a candle light
all the world keeps on turning, making day and night,
and from dark to light,
you'll be part of every prayer that ever comes from me.

I will be for you.
Like a cool mountain spring that overflows for you
like a warm summer breeze
through the trees for you.
In a candle glow,
everything I've ever been or will ever be
for eternity,
you'll be part of everything I ever do.
I will be for you.

Heaven's Grocery Store

Marching down life’s highway, my feet became very sore
I then came upon a sign that read “Heaven’s Grocery Store”
When I got closer the doors swung open wide
Next thing I knew I was standing there inside
I saw a flock of angels positioned everywhere
They handed me a basket and said, “Child shop with care.”
Everything a human required was in that grocery store
With many commodities to carry, you could always come back for more
First I acquired some Patience; Love was in that same row
Further down was Understanding, you require that everywhere you go
I grabbed a box of Wisdom and Faith, a bag or two
And obtained Charity of course but more than just a few
And then reached for Courage to help me run this wicked race
My basket was almost full but remembered some loving Grace
I then chose Salvation for it was advertised as free
I tried to collect enough of that for both you and me
Then I started to the counter to pay my grocery bill
For I thought I had everything to do the Master’s will
As I went up the aisle, I saw Prayer and proceeded put that in
For I knew when I stepped outside I was bound to encounter sin
Peace and Joy were plentiful, the last thing on that shelf
Song and Praise were hanging near so I just helped myself
Then I asked an angel, “Now how much do I owe?”
She smiled and said, “Just take them wherever you may go.”
Again I asked, “No really, how much do I owe?”
“My child,” she said, “God paid your bill a long time ago.”

GOLDEN TICKET

"A world of trials and tribulations carried underneath the sun.
He stands by his woman as she by her man bound together as one.
Instilled with Prayer and Faith along with God's grace.
Power of both will never let anyone take their place."

Tanglaw -- Light

Sometimes, I cannot help but sigh
and wonder--
wonder deep inside of me
whether I could ever be like you.

I riffle through the pages of my soul
and find a lot of them empty
Unlike yours, which seem to be bursting, blinding,
bursting, and still continuing to burst with brilliance...

So much so,
that your soul's light
has spread far and wide,
very much like sunlight's fingers
opening the morning sky curtains,
touching and warming
those who need it.

Tanglaw
Each step that you take,
each breath that you exhale,
each prayer that you whisper,
each beat of your heart
Tanglaw

I receive a smile,
and chat
with that man
who you've helped change...
Because of you,
the silent man now speaks, smiles.

You sit down to rest,
I see you talking to someone,
and I am almost fooled,
since you seem like old friends.
Because of you,
the lonely strangers become kindred.

It mystifies me sometimes,
of how you never seem to get tired.
It seems like I am the one who gets tired for you,
who gets worried for your own strength...
Then I see that glow from all around,
and I am reminded how you glean from this glow.

I see you as this beautiful ball of energy--
Never static,
bouncing from soul to soul,
illuminating parts of themselves
that even they never knew existed.

It is so amazing seeing this at work,
since the next thing I know,
the place is lit up,
Alive.
...and it is all because of you.

It makes me feel unworthy at times,
but oh how it also makes me feel so proud,
that I am a part of you,
and you are a part of me.

I have a lot of catching up to do,
since it seems I am lightyears from where you are

But I will try.
I will catch the tail end of your light,
clutch to it with my life, winding it around me,
let it embrace me--tight, so tight.
And I will never let it go. Never.
Until I also begin to glow.
Until I too, become that ball of light.

Hopefully when someone
riffles through the pages of my soul,
they will not find it blank,
but filled with gilt pages of light.

Just like yours.
Bursting and brilliant just like yours.

Tanglaw is pronounced "tang-lao"

Where I live, mothers are said to be the "light of the home"...

If Ever

If ever pain shall strike my wounded soul,
my consolation is you are my cloak
Your calming presence mending any hole,
protecting me from chills it might invoke

If ever moon and tide shall be at war,
and convolutes my tattered, wrinkled mind
I’ll plunge it deep into your ocean floor
of soothing words, ‘til sweetest peace I find

If ever sun shall fall upon its death,
my only prayer is that you'll be with me
For light within your heart is like my breath,
and this will last me for eternity

I know that life shall cease for me one day
But love, ah love, forever it shall stay...

SOMEONE WHO WILL TAKE ME AS ME

SOMEONE WHO WILL TAKE ME AS ME Someone who will take me as me... Gone are the days that I set standards just to possibly disinter who is who Gone are the days that I dig into just the appearance of my eyes can see above failures crash my thoughts and my dreams; even sharp arrows pierce my heart but above all these... I thank my Father God that I never stop hoping I never stop moving I never stop loving though there are times I asked Him why I assess my whole being of where did I fail... Have I love so less? Have I show so less? Have I said so less? Adieu to pride and greed, this I did as they roam like mist disturbing man yet, when love ramps and brace, it blocks fears and threats caused by problems and storms Disease and doubt cripple the self but if genuine love germs, healing flowers then it permeates Unmindful of who you are (past and present...) and where you from... Selfless to nail a heart full of affection with roots clinging within the core of the soul old age predisposes the skin to sag it causes the hair to gray and brittle it cause the body to deteriorate but what remains true... a love that wells to dwell though there is the invented word: DEATH. L O V E in its essence is bold and courageous to pursue Its lustrous flames wag fearless unchangeable unshakable and unfailing... Yes oh Yes tears convulse the mind and may even stroke the memories; Disagreements too, awake and arrest yet, none of them can corrode true love granting that the individuals involve chose to mend, restore and start anew. Willingness. Compromise. Acceptance. Understanding. Dedication. Honesty. Loyalty.Trust. Commitment. (You can add more.... but ask yourself, are you exercising them?) _____________________________________________ Oh! Father God... I implore thee Take me to Your loving arms You alone accept me for who I am You see beyond my even and my odds You know the rhythmn of my heart You read the running neurons in my head I abide in thee Reveal unto me Your Gracious will I admit~ apart from You I am nothing. All I have, it came from You. Always. More than ever I am seeking Your Holy presence. I surrender. And wherever I go Oh Father God, allow me to be a blessing for more of You and less of me is much better than this whole world Amen. __________________________________ Someone who will take me as me This I so long and been praying Oh Father God........ ___________________________________ O.E.Guillermo 5:55 pm April 12, 2014

Mother and I

Mother shares all, sacrificing 'til barren.

She and I are one, united in breath and dust,
the atoms and spirits spinning, fragments of failures,
curiosity and constraint... I was tempted in the orchard.
I was cold in the desert. I felt abandoned...

Dreams are feathers fleeing on wings.
Birds of Paradise in the mind's eye...

Destitute yesterday, fruitful tomorrow.
Decadence is a disease. No one is healthy.
We are changing, dying from birth to grave,
I hold onto the internal, eternal while I ramble on and on...
Mother, are you listening?

I live in a trench of contentment, sheltered
in my little world of sun and shadow, small
in my birthplace, blaming and forgiving,
striving and settling...digging my hands in the dirt.

Mother, you are the daisy, dainty and demure,
fair to the admiring eye, silent like the sunrise.
I pick daisies from your garden and pluck the petals hoping for love.
I may never know...

Mother, you are the redwood, strong and mature,
praising golden sky, healing and wise.
I climb your branches and gather leaves for the wind's scrapbook.
A lifelong search...

Mother, who are you? Who am I?
We are the distant stars.
We are the rivers nigh.
the daisy and redwood live;
we are earth, water, sky, life and death.
A dream on wings, laboring land,
A prayer on bended knee,
we dance, swim, fly, stand tall.
I call her friend...

Mother shares all, giver and taker of life 'til the end.

Pal

Bob had been a lonely man ever since
His wife of fifty years had passed.
“Lord, let me join her.” he would pray.
“Let this day be my last.”

Each day, he went to the cemetery,
Just a short walk down the street.
After their talk, he would water her flowers
And hear passers-by whisper, “How sweet.”

One gray and misty morning,
He had hoped for sunnier skies
To plant fall bloomers at her graveside;
But, there, to his surprise…

Stood an old dog beside her stone;
Thin and dirty, but he struck a handsome pose.
He whined as Bob approached, as if to say,
“I could use a friend, you know.”

He sat calmly as Bob planted flowers,
Carefully sniffing each one Bob put in place.
Then, after the last one was planted,
He sniffed it; then turned and licked Bob’s face.

Bob smiled. “I had a dog when I was young…
Pal…he was a mighty good one too.
So, if you don’t mind old fella,
That’s what I’ll call you.”

Pal may have been an old dog,
But he was smart and handsome in his way;
So they made a deal, Bob would give him a meal
And a bath, if he decided to stay.

Pal loved his bath, then rolled in the grass.
He slept on a blanket in the den.
In the night, he dragged it next to Bob’s bed.
He intended to be Bob’s best friend.

Pal was such a good dog, housebroken too;
Never made a mess or got in trouble.
He knew about newspapers, slippers and Frisbees;
And when Bob called, he ‘d come on the double.

Yes, Pal gave Bob’s life new purpose.
A special bond of friendship was cast.
And never again did Bob pray,
“Lord, let this day be my last.”

For twelve years, the very best of friends,
Together night and day;
And so it was, until one night,
Both quietly passed away.

The next morning, an old woman,
Tears welling in her sad and lonely eyes,
Brought flowers to her husband’s grave;
But there, to her surprise….

Stood an old dog beside the stone,
Thin an dirty, but he struck a handsome pose.
He whined as she approached, as if to say,
“I could use a friend, you know.”

He sat calmly as she took old flowers
And put fresh ones in their place.
He carefully sniffed the fresh ones,
Then turned and licked her face.

She smiled. “I had a dog when I was young...
a good one too. His name was Pal.”

Stolen Innocence

The sexual abuse of children is all to common these days. The effects are everlasting. These crimes effect more than
just the victim. I am a member of a poetry site (Poet's Workshop) and we were challenged to write a poem about such
abuse. It is our way of spreading the word, helping to fight crime against our children, and help support the victims.
They need to know they are not alone, it is not their fault and to help them to heal! This was my submission. Not for
the easily disturbed, this is real people, it happens all the time!

Stolen Innocence

Holding back the tears,
An innocent Angel suffers in silence.
Trembling hands and aching heart;
Anticipating the eminent violence.
Lord, please let the day last
and keep the sun from falling
Protect her from the night
When evil comes calling
Her prayer is unanswered,
Under the covers she weeps.
A twist of the door knob;
Into her room he creeps.
She sees the beastly silhouette
From beneath her cotton sheet,
Tiny fists clinch, writhing in pain
Her agony; his desire is replete
His words were gentle; not threatening
She believed his love was true
When he said my little princess,
This is what all DaddyÍs do.
MommyÍs are jealous of this little game
That only DaddyÍs get to play
You can never tell a living soul
They wonÍt believe you anyway
And so she kept this little secret.
And kept her bruises well concealed.
She knew that Mommy would be hurt
If the truth were ever revealed
The late night games became more frequent
Often more than once a night
Love should not cause such pain
There is no way this could be right
She called her Mother to her room
Mommy, I think you need to know
DaddyÍs done some awful things
He touched me down below
He told me never to tell you
That youÍd just be angry with me
Oh I am so very sorry
Mommy can you forgive me
That very instant, an arrow pierced her heart
Her knees buckled, she dropped to the ground
Speechless, immersed with guilt
Rage, Anger, Contriction all compound
The light inside her died that day
Unable to protect her own creation
Two spirits broken, one by the hands of another
And one sentenced by her own damnation

OUR MANY BLESSINGS

OUR MANY BLESSINGS
By the Poets Listed in the first comment

Life is full of wonderment and blessings well received.
The greatest gift, so well conceived, the freedom to believe.
Thanking God that in this glorious world He perceived.
There, stands today beauty and grandeur that awed we can achieve.
Our ancestors, many moons ago, the motherland did flee.
Enriching lives, harvest, and family in this land of milk and honey.
Gratitude after we gathered the fruits of our great labors.
Holding hands with love we pray with family, friends, and neighbors.
Thankfulness for waking to feel warm sun on our face, all hail.
The wind's breeze, melodies in green trees from sweet nightingales,
You cast off my chains; you set me free, through true eyes, now I see.
Each dawn I give thanks I am free! Thank you, Lord from the real me.
Thank you for my mind and heart and trusting me from the start.
For the sun, the moon, the stars, and all your creatures who take part.
Also for things in me once damaged, now mending a new start.
To live this life, day to day, with the minimum of fuss-
We believe in many things, that the joys of life bring us.
From majestic mountains, to the tiniest of bugs,
Wondrous bountiful God, created these for poetry.
I am sending GOOD energy, to my friends, and hugs.
My thanks are carried on waves over the November seas.
To friends from afar who grace my life with comfort and ease.
One unending relationship with God and His wonderful love...
Four sons, the gifts given to me from Heaven high above,
I am so thankful to be gifted with so many different things.
And being healthy under loving angel's caring wings
One great blessing: I begin to see the world was more than me.
Methodical. Prodigal. More logical, I found the great light love.
Within our thankful hearts today, a prayer is softly said,
Blessing all who join with us as we eat and share our bread.
Our lives are enriched by family and friends that we love.
With grateful hearts, we thank our generous Father above.
The wonders of your world, Lord, Earthbound and on the wing,
Our hearts are filled with happiness for every blessed thing.
So, thank you, Lord for everything that upon us you bestowed.
Especially for your love dear, Lord that bountifully has flowed.
                                                                               Amen

CONTRIBUTING POETS in alphabetical order: See the first comment. We had great
participation. Thank you, my poet dear friends for your contributions to this Thanksgiving
poem. Lovingly, Dane Ann

'Challenge remains'

Six words that carry so much weight for every situation in life we need to have these words as rumination because no matter what happens we will somehow be challenged to live it out we have a tendency to forget that to have a clean heart means getting rid of hate, envy and anger – it means being gentle, it means being friendly even towards a stranger, the beggar on the street corner the challenge remains and my continual prayer is “Lord, please create in me a clean heart”

THE DEVIL IN A BOTTLE

~The Devil in a Bottle~ Waves or fears so thick you could feel them ripple up the stairs… The screams the pleadings the sobs, We would chant our well learnt prayers… We learnt them from over use; we learnt them off by rote, Huddled together at night in bed - underneath the overcoat. That is our blanket on the bed for three. Please God don’t let our dad hurt our pretty mum-my. This nightly prayer was our plea, we nightly did espouse Because we learned the devil- he had now entered our house. Our dad was the nicest man around, but the devil was spirits and beer. He could be so happy until his drink - filled us all with fear. Our mum became religious to fight this devil away But she was never strong enough even though she would pray all day. The happy days came when he went to work at sea. Weeks of peace, we enjoyed we were happy all could see. We forgot about how easily when he was home, the life that we enjoyed. Happiness and fun soon left us as he quickly became annoyed. Then the ripple of tension and fear would creep back in the house Made us wish we could hide in a hole, just like a little mouse Hidden away scurrying through walls, and in between floors Not having to listen to - screams behind closed bedroomdoors.
