The Ballad of Goodie-Two-Shoes

My mother went to heaven on the day that I was born
My father raised me up before my mother he would join
He said, “Son, to get to heaven you must live a good, clean life
So you can go to meet your mother and see me with my wife.”

So, I tried to be good and I followed the golden rule
I did what I should and I was obedient all through school
I shared what I could and I read my bible every day
I tried to avoid evil thoughts and never a hurtful thing I’d say

The kids picked on me and “goodie-two-shoes” became my name
But, because I had a mission my actions always were the same
The road to meet my mother was a path to be kept clear
So bullies had their way with me – no retaliation need they fear

After my father passed away I met a beautiful young girl
She was everything to me; she was the rock in my empty world
We got married in the Summer; she was carrying my child in the Spring
I was looking forward to being a father to this miracle she would bring

I was working at a charity when they broke into my house
My wife tried to hide from them, being quiet as a mouse
They said, “Oh look, its goodie-two-shoes’ home, lets burn it to the ground”
When she yelled at them to stop this act, my wife was finally found

I won’t say what they did to her – the details I will spare
When she said, “My husband will soon be back”, they said, “What do we care”
“Goodie-two-shoes shares everything, of course he’d share his wife
Besides, that man’s a coward; we can do just what we like.”

When I came home and saw her, my mother spoke into my ear,
“Don’t worry about heaven, son, I’ve always been right here.”
I took my wife to the hospital, where they said she’d be okay
Then I went to find those bastards and wipe my life of good away

When they saw me approaching they laughed right into my face
With the first swing of the baseball bat I fell from heavens’ grace
Two men were unconscious before the third knew what to do
The bullet that he shot at me, my shoulder it passed right through

Justifiable homicide – on probation for ten years
My wife and son at my side, there is happiness in my tears
My mother and father visit me every night in my bedtime dreams
I didn’t need to take that path to heaven – or so, at least, it seems

Empty (Lyrical Ballad)

The flame that I once held
The one that shone bright
Within the ground will meld
On this merciless cold night

The empty night
Will flood with rain
Tonight I fight
Just to stay sane

Dimensions of pain
Will fill the sky
Within this rain
Hear my feint cry

The mistress will fade
The skies will cry
Diamond to jade
Ambition to die

Within that lost soul
Resides a key
Within her
I find me

"Ballad of Dreams"

Oh sweetest stars, sing remedies
show me where my life will go
show me all those paths unknown
Until the morning star shall rise

Oh sweetes stars, sing remedies
lead my true love onto me
show me where our hearts will be
until the morning star shall rise

oh sweetest stars, sing remedies
turn this reality into a fantasy
where I am careless and so free
until the morning star shall rise

oh sweetest stars, sing remedies
show me when the lights go out
what my days were all about
until the morning star shall rise.

oh sweetest stars, sing remedies
oh! Jubilant scenes of mockery!
how bad i wish to be reality
until the morning star shall rise

Ballad for two violins

Romantic dinner:chamois,
A lot of candles

A Poor Woman's Ballad

a poor woman's ballad, told in her p.o.v

I ain't got a dime in nobody's bank
...and I ain't got...just to be quite frank
I ain't got a paycheck from nobody's job
I aint got nothing...luckily, I don't go out and rob
I ain't got a car from nobody's lot
...and I ain't got...to be wasting in nobody's slot
I ain't got a house on nobody's land
I ain't got a pot to piss in, sometimes I pee in a can
I ain't got no jewelry from nobody's store
I ain't got it no more, cause they caught me at the door
I ain't got a stove to be cooking nobody's food
...and I ain't got a refridgerator to be keeping jack...cool
I ain't got the strength to be giving nobody a hand
...and I damn sholl' don't have a bed to be keeping nobody's man
I ain't got no butter to put with this toast and I ain't got no spread to put with this bread
...so therefore, I ain't got no food to be keeping nobody fed
I ain't got no cash to be letting nobody borrow a dub(20 dlrs)
...and I ain't got no money to be getting in nobody's club
I ain't got no fancy clothes, high-tech whatcha- ma- call-its or no shoes made by nobody...
but I do have a couple of things, thanks to somebody
you see...I ain't got no riches that could be considered wealth
but I went to the doctor yesterday, he told me I was in good health
I ain't got nothing really to be giving, but I woke up this morning...so therefore I am living
I ain't wearing no designer dress, but somehow, I ain't even stressed
I ain't got no diamonds hanging down my chest
...but I'm good...cause somebody keep me alive...so therefore I am blessed

The Ballad of Travis the Knight

Travis was not tired one bit, he had no intention of sleeping.
He desired more than blankets and covers, and the promises his sheets lay keeping.
In bed, he squirmed, as the candlelight burned, he tossed and turned on his side.
-Oh that he could be someone, somewhere far away, he could be Sir Travis, the Knight.
"Gather round this table" he'd bellow to all, "a dragon approaches the town!"
While villagers trembled, the brave ran away, but Sir Travis, the knight, stood his ground.
This dragon blew flames of blue from his mouth, not a pupil was seen in stare.
But Sir Travis approached, undeterred by smoke, and the fury awaiting him there.
Black were the wings of the serpent whose talons were known to cut armor.
Swift was Sir Travis, his shield, unyielding as sure as his galloping charger.
Fields of wheat were blown back from the impact of sword ringing notes against claw.
Songs sung by creatures of flight were silenced amidst the screaming and brew ha.
A dust hurricane strained to obscure the view from the townspeople watching outside.
The noise and the power unleashed from both sides ensured there was not a dry eye.
And from the cacophony a silhouette formed and a figure emerged from the ashes.
Triumphant, our savior, his sword raised, there was that brave Knight called Sir Travis.
And the villagers cheered and the trumpets sang tributes of many peaceful times to come.
And tales were told of Sir Travis' Dragon and passed down from the old to the young.
-Yet, that night, Travis was not tired one bit, and he had no intention of sleeping.
He desired more than blankets and covers, and the promises his sheets lay keeping.
but to his bed he returned, as the candlelight burned; he lay down and closed his eyes,
As the moon smiled in phase, he again became someone, somewhere far away..
He was Sir Travis.
Sir Travis, the Knight.

THEWhaling SHIP CAPTAIN's LOVER ballad dedicated my gmother's life

THE SHIP CAPTAIN’S LOVER (from my grandmother's life--her betrothed lost at sea on a whaling vessel in Norway 1890)

by Victoria Anderson-Throop

The winds blow free
And the winds blow cold
There never was a man so bold
As the man I loved who went to sea
The month he was to marry me

Times were hard
And times were tough
Winds were cold
North seas were rough

But a whaling man will fight for breath
Dare the sea , defy their death
He ordered his crew
“come follow me
Who fears to sail
Is cowardly”

“No, don’t leave me--
Please --I called”
He slapped me then
He was appalled

I had shamed him with my fear
I should have handed him his gear
And wished him well upon his way
Gone on like any other day

A woman’s place is by the shore
Nothing less and nothing more
She never begs and never cries
Unless her own beloved dies

While I waited on the shore
Fear seeped out of every pore
Days went by
And then a week
Tears were shed by brave and meek

Life was bitter, life was sour
A bell was sounded from the tower
For each beloved man
Now lost--
What a bitter
Deadly cost.

And , for me,
My life's in tatters.
Men don’t know the thing that matters--
I wish I had my man so sweet
Not my world
Thrown at my feet.

Oh darlin’ babe now in my arms
Don’t fall victim to wild charms
When the sea calls in your head
Stay at home-- die in your bed

Ballad In A Graveyard

Behold my brother, MDG
Handsome, gifted, crazy
Living his days in drudgery
Thoughts unfocused, hazy

He takes his hat off in the rain
Looks down upon her grave
He sinks to earth in melting pain
Her life he could not save

He loved her then, still loves her now
Helpless as he sits here
She gave to him her lifelong vow
That he should never fear

Her going before him in death
He was the older one
He’d be first to draw the last breath
That promise, now undone

Leaves him lonely to start new life
He does not know how to
Begin afresh without his wife
He struggles to bow to

What he cannot comprehend –
Shorn of his beloved
Filled with a grief that never ends
Life? How can he live it?

Now he feels enraged, quite angry
Nothing’s fair about this!
So he sets out, mean and hungry
To try to make right this

Situation (aberration
Is more like it he thinks --)
To refuse death’s sad invitation
He shakes his head and blinks

For there, before him, standing tall
A shadow figure waits
From its petrified fingers fall
First closed, then open gates

One portal to the unknown days,
The other, portal past
He shifted back and forth his gaze
Then suddenly, he gasped

Through portal past he saw himself
Lost, grave side, deep in pain
And then that scene resolved itself
In pouring, golden rain

Through the portal of unknown days
He sees her peaceful face
And seeks to trust God’s unknown ways
On earth, in time and space

He decided not to fight it
Or beg his lover back
No need to undo or right it
He saw there was no lack

Her peaceful face shone in his mind
Her spirit touched his soul
His vision cleared, no longer blind
His heart was healed, made whole

The pouring rain lets slowly go
The earth that holds the grave
His mind fills up with Spirit’s glow
He’s clean, reborn and brave

He can now face his life alone
Until his time to die
He knows her soul’s not trapped in stone
She’s always by his side

He’s happy now, with many friends
Who understand his peace
He lost his need to make amends
Their love will never cease

A ballad for Hannah

A ballad for Hannah (In memory)

I awoke this morning with a frightening chill,
Hannah has been killed
By a group of peers,
There was never any violence
Only immaturity from them all.

Day by day was Hell
She always felt like she was locked in a cell,
The rumors grew closer
Minutes got longer,
Death was knocking at the door.

No one noticed her sorrowful eyes
Or even wondered if she wanted to die,
All that mattered to them
Is letting everyone know
That she can not be trusted.

She plotted a devious deed
Who would notice this lead?
Her fall would be quick and painless,
No one would ever suspect it,
Hannah has been killed.

ballad of a wintered songster

Brandy and Crème soda
Autumn summons us
Shoulder to shoulder
We know not
If we’re getting older
We are self confident soldiers
I give you the best
Of my brandy and Crème soda

March
Early and on we shall
Through these days of despair
Autumn prevails
Ways to soften
Whom could offer such a touch
A warm letter in the mail
Growing adolescents
A young man
The consequences that follow
A growing male
The turmoil that soothes us
Is growing ale
The spice that tips ginger
Snaps a small town singer
“I love you”
It’s going to be a long winter
Shall we withstand
This duration as centered
Look to no one
For flaws
seem to dissolve our mentors
Passion is Rum
Whiskey endures
cold nights and un-sober palms
A rapist telling me
“I love your mom”
A young harlet calling
“dear love come home”
A shelter
From where doubt comes
The city’s filth
Why it loves only my lungs
I’m good, I’m fine
Expressions in a glass of wine
Through these words
A strangers poetry
You and I
have become intertwined
I’m lost, I’m alone
I feel as though
I’ve become undone
Run, run, away and fast
On to no where, as orphans
We were found at last

Ballad for Pope Puiu(1)

If in your veins ,you still hear the horses` silver hoofs,
And the copper moon escapes its smile on the roofs ,
Don't let them go alone as Pope Puiu did before to die :
He watched the empty wall and said his dream was just a lie.
His sleepy devil darling,
And lots of angels sing…
The song of Falstaff-Pope Puiu , my dear old mate:
Half is lowing as a mule: grave, grim and obstinate;
He crushes the dark with white hoofs ,
He asks Coco , his brother to stand aloof,
While the fire was consuming their old roof…
The rest is mixture of lullaby and gospel …
The ember of desert slowly trying to spell:
JOB lives in me:
Lonely like a tree…
Coco wore white chilblains after long sleeping on snow.
Puiu wore heartburns ,and other inner wounds that grow…
They knew the ice and rude Siberian wind that froze
The parents` soul, the smiling sun, the rare rose
Of our old recollections with crossed golden swords…
But now, the grass knows a new play upon words:
There my thoughts were turned into stone.
I drink, friend, because I forget things; I feel alone
Like a syllogism burned by the life's light;
Like a hoof of mule crushing the night.
Under the rusty leafage and grass` oppression deep,
The unseen roots, much loneliness and secrets keep.

a december ballad

Do you ever feel as though
No matter what you do
You’ll never be as good
As those who’re viewing you

And the songs about the same
To which ever day you move
Time grants you space to mood
And melodies to sooth

Yet you stand so far distant
That no one knows you’re gone

Having laughter next to smiles
Brings us back
To being orphans as a child
I’ll sit next to you for a while

Run, Run
As fast as we can
No one really
Can stand a plan

And no one knows you’re gone

Here’s to another chapter written
Impurities of a young one missing
Hidden beneath the stars
I lost myself to comfort sitting at your bar

Stripped the strings from your guitar
Did you forget to show them your scars
Seems you’ve come so far
And they ask you, whom you are

Still no one knows you’re gone

“When all you have is you
I hope you find yourself
Along the way”

BALLAD.

Go saddle me the black black steed
For I am going on a long long journey
Go wipe away the tears that roll
Across brawny cheeks of gypsie lassie.

Fifteen well made men going on their steeds
To get their brides leap over the strand
The brunt hills in search of a namer
Drying fast to justify conscript of land.

Twilled with a broach and a ring wintry
The death stalks the hill with sickled moon
The leaden sheen on the steed’s back
Has turned the night’s face into a roon.

Late late yesterday I saw the moon
Full bodied like a new sickled maned
The death will stalk these streets tonight
And am afraid of downy owl’s nickled bane.

Come on fair ladies hang your hair down
Over the fair head over the abordour
The fifteen men have gone to castle waste
And along came the death to devour.

Go saddle me the black black steed
The merry castle keep has hovelled a cry
Though death stalks every haste and waste
And brawny cheeks of gypsie have gone dry.

The Ballad of the Winter Fallen

It was the cold and dark of winter
I was outside playing alone
My fingers were chilled like cinders
I ventured far from home

I turned around and it was white
I couldn't see at all
So I closed my eyes real tight
Then I began to fall...

I fell into a slumber
Awaken by bright lights
I heard the sound of water
I felt I slept all night

I saw a beautiful girl
With a voice as enchanting as gold
Her clothes white as pearl
She wasn't that old

I took her sweet soft hand
We walked to a grave
The grave's in white sand
My soul she couldn't save

Lights of green and blue
I was suddenly in a room
Kids in white dresses too!
Could it be my doom?

Taken to water so clear
I could hear my dad calling
His voice full of fear
The sound so loud appalling

I fell into the pond
Appeared in front of the door
This is the truth my bond
My dream existed before

Birthday Ballad

Where ever you are dear
May love and condolences appear
I can see you're damaged child
Through the freight of the night
The empty plates
The search for a soul mate
Here's to your smile
Often I wonder
How you will survive the night
It bothers me
But you carry on
Endlessy, alone

In time
I learned to hold my head
And morph into a man
Back against the wind
Nothing to offer
As the person that I am
We stand, hand in hand
Trying to reminisce
On the happy thoughts
But there's no fairy dust
For this peter pan

I'm thankful
For the days
That I am missed
The urgency that
That my life
Has suddenly kissed
I'll make it
I always do
And If I do not
Then I guess
I went with in the night

"My expired where abouts"

Ballad of A Looser

he loves to get hi
living a life of his own morals
they blame him for what they cannot understand
they hate him for what they cannot bear
painfull,is what his younger days have been
he still reminisces of the cause that made him what they despise
his mother told him to go out and get paid
the moment she pushed him out of her womb
they name him looser because he makes his money
deviating from the system's rules
but to me he's a hero
for he fights for the cause he belives in
he surely will die for that cause

Ballad of Strength

Break my legs and make me run
Take my sight and give me the sun
Throw me down without a rope
And I’ll still climb to find my hope

Burn my flesh, don’t tell me why
Make a game of silence when I cry
Teach me wrong and say all’s right
But I’ll still crawl and find a place of light

It’s all I am when truth will fade
Even alone, and in my grave
I keep rising despite my hurt
Because in my darkness I can feel the earth

Crawled through hell and found myself
My strength’s still here, so is my health
The burns have made my skin so tough
And my deeper vision can see my love

It’s all I am when lies will leave
I can not fall, I’ll always breathe
I keep ascending despite the dark
Because the deepest fears can’t take my heart
