As Far As I Can

Sore to the bone
Running on a drop of energy
Just gotta push through
I'll rest eventually

My shoulder has gone numb
But my body feels her weight
As if she's gotten heavy
Since her unconscious state

If I could, I'd stop right now
But who knows how safe it is here
And if I could even start again
I may fall asleep I fear

Soon my body will give up
But I'll make it as far as I can
And hopefully haven isn't too far
And I can put her in helping hands

Walking all day and night
It's hard not to think on past
And any thought I come up with
Has me struggling to hold sobs back

I've kept my ears open
Trying to focus on only sounds
But all I keep on hearing
Is my shoes crunch on foreign grounds

Bang. I hear it softly.
So far but still so near.
Bang. Another gunshot sounds
And I've collapsed in fear.

I close my eyes but another goes off
This time in a memory
And now I'm filled with rage
At how repulsive humans can be

My thoughts turn to my baby
Slipping off of my shoulder
I set her down and examine her
Bloodstained gown and skin colder

My worst nightmare but it can't be true
I listen in for her sweet breath
No. No No. No No. No No.
What's this silence? This isn't death.

This time I don't close my eyes
I see a sight that makes me sob
Memory of the last I saw my wife
And now my baby's with her mom.

Each one of us left covered in crimson
By a monster, a gunshot, a blow
Their death is the death of me.
This is as far as I can go.

Weeping Widows

Endlessly the widows weep
For their adored lovers lost
To their final, eternal sleep;
This is wars cost.

The reasoning for their loss they can’t dispel,
For in reality there’s no protected to keep;
Of this irrefutable knowledge they can’t quell,
Forever floating in their emotional sea they steep.

The loss of these souls is abundant,
Annually growing dismally deep,
To the point the numbers are redundant;
Endlessly more and more widows will weep.

He Left Her a White Rose

Its the morning after the night before
As i leave my new wife, whom i lovingly adore

My orders came through, overseas i head
With my band of brothers, not knowing what's ahead

Married for days, whilst conflict takes him away
Holding sheets where we slept, my memory bouquet

At the bottom of our bed, there lies a virgin white rose
With a note beneath i am in momentary froze

I sit and stare as to what it might say
Knowing this is the day my love flies away

My darling Tinks i leave this white rose for you
Its pristine appearance describes my darling so true

It symbolises you, so innocent so pure
With your love in my heart, i will return i assure

Think of the day, from these distant lands from beyond
For the morning after the night before, we will respond

This virgin white rose, so bridal so pure
You and its safety i will secure, for you to return for our future

The day you come home, it shall lay on our bed
And we will continue our lives, as you have always said

I will go about my tomorrow's, thinking of you every day
And prey that this virgin white rose, never turns deathly grey

A Soldiers Wife

He gets up at 4 a.m, and puts on his ACU’s
And laces up his combat boots
He is my man, this is my life
For I am a soldiers wife
He means the world to me
He is my hero and who I want to be
When he is gone and I am all alone
I have a lot to shoulder
He is my man, he is a soldier
I miss him so much that inside I ache
Sometimes, I wonder if my heart will break
When I cry, I cry to myself, alone
I keep focused and charge ahead
All the while sleeping alone in our big cold bed
He is my husband, and I am his wife
I couldn’t be prouder of his chosen life
Even as I cry
When I kiss him goodbye
I know what he does, he does for us
To keep us safe and to sleep in peace through the night
It’s hard to not hold him or kiss him goodnight
To not hear I love you and it will be alright
It’s so hard living here on my own
But I know that he will be coming home
I cry myself to sleep each and every night
All the while knowing that he may have to fight
Defending our freedom
In some far away land
I know we will make it, because we are meant to be
I feel it deep down inside when he says he loves me
I think of him every moment of every day
And I know he is thinking of me when he is away
He is my man, this is my life
For I am a soldiers wife.

I'm Going Home

,

Lord thank you for this life,
As I have lived a full life,
It was not always as I would have like,
But I lived it to the best of what I could,
I’m going home; Home to the place I want to be,
I’m going home to Jesus where He waits for me,
I have been a long weary believer,
As I’ve been away to long,
I now know what I’ve been searching for,
As He's been there in me all along,
I’m going home; Home is the place I want to be,
I’m going home to Jesus where He waits for me,
I have been and seen lots of places in life’s journey,
Now I yearn for familiar faces in familiar places,
I hear familiar voices calling me to come home,
I see familiar faces looking at me,
I’m going home; Home is the place I want to be,
I’m going home to Jesus where He waits for me,
My time is near, the hour I know not,
I see Jesus' face across the Heaven’s,
I hear His soft sweet voice calling me home,
I can’t wait for my real life to begin,
I’m going home; Home is the place I want to be,
I’m going home to Jesus where He waits for me.

Color Dance

Blood runs red in every race
War bring tears to every creed
Hunger felt by every being
Love desired by every heart

Green envy or generosity
Vengeful snares and forgiving
Nightmares give desires to dream
Dancing twixt joy & despair

Colorful array of emotions
So much in common
Do you see me in you
Your reflection in me?

We are rainbow children
Painting the canvas of life
Compassion sees the art
In the unique dance of us

I Wish You Were Here

I wish you were here with me each day
when the birds announce the arrival of dawn
I wish you were here with me at night
when the stars twinkle and moon shines through
There has never been a time you were not part of my life
My heart feels empty when your not here by my side
Without you here with me my soul knows no rest
It's solemn in the morning and throughout each passing day
I miss you more when daylight slowly fades away.

I appreciate the things that you do more than you know
We need each other like springtime blooms, that grow
In the rain and in the sunshine, all day long.
We've laughed and cried together, through good & bad times
Sometimes now while your away, I get so overwhelmed
It gives me great comfort in knowing this agony will pass
One thought that appeases me, is what I know for sure
You'll take me in your loving arms and I could not ask for more.

I know that even though you are away from me for now
Our love still endures brightly though from afar.
Two hearts bound together, that can't be pulled apart
The journeys we take in our lives, forever to last
Can't be erased just by you're going over there and my love
When you return back to me again one day soon
We'll enjoy lovely sunrises and sunsets once more
So come with me where dreams are born and time is never planned.
Just think of happy things, and your heart will fly on wings,
Forever, in Never Never Land."

Ourselves

Ourselves

The world is filled with temptation.
The heart is filled with desires.
The eye’s is filled with it own truth.
The mind is on the breaking point of sane and insanity.

We are only human.
We are only creatures, neither light nor dark.
We are only ourselves.

Some wear mask to defeat others.
Some wear mask to defeat themselves.
Some wear mask to hide who they really are.

Here is the point where we must decide in our life where we stand.
For trust and love and kinship of your blood will be tested.

First was the temptation.
Then it sets with desires.
Afterwards either the truth or lies are spun.
And to the last who shall stand brave or break under the weight.

We speak of truth when behind us is nothing but woven lies, and hearts full of deceit.
Can you not see the hypocrite side of us?
Ha! It wounds me to known this, even more that I am one of those.

Take heed and resist or be forgotten with all others.
For in this life there is only good or evil, light and darkness, the possible and impossible.

Such is us.
Such is you.
Such is me.

Our world is filled with temptation.
Our hearts is filled with desires.
Our eye’s is filled with what we wish to see.
Our mind’s is filled with things that can make and break us.

WHISKEY LULLABY

written 17th Sept 2013

             "WHISKEY LULLABY"
sung by Brad Paisley and Alason Krass

Just married, he loved his new wife, more than anyone saw
a day after they where married, he got drafted off to war
Overjoyed to finally return home to his bride
he walked in, to find she was in bed with another man
With just a slight second, his heart died
pain overwhelmed his entire soul, he picked up a drink
And started to drink more every day, to try to forget
as time passed, he drank himself to death, with a note "I'll love her till I die
they buried him beneath the willow, as she watched she filled her soul with regret
left to blame herself, she began to drink his memory away
As years passed she slowly drank her pain away
they found her next to his grave, holding his picture as she passed away
They buried her beneath the willow, and they were together again
and the angles sang a whisky lullaby
So when you find your one true love, be faithful and true
for no amount of alcohol will mend a broken heart for whatever you do!

I chose this song for my mother and my father both became alcoholics after they separated and my father passed away at the age of 42years old, my mother still lives but never stopped drinking she will be 58 years old she took off with his best friend from the age of 12yrs old

Journey to War

You are ready to embark on a journey.
A voyage destanation unknown!
Your mind is in a frenzy.
But your worried about the things at home.
Your captain is calling.
The torment your hauling is more than a man
should carry alone.

Your journey is far and frightning.
you dare not close your eyes.
No fret my dear I'll still be here
When you dock your ship back home.

Keep your head low and watch you step.
My praires are with you and never regret.
You made a choice you felt was right.
Your family will pray. Your family will write.
We will be there with you both day and nigtht.
In your heart is where I will be.
To guide you through this war.
Your children and me.

I love my soldier!

For the Fallen Hero

Holes are dug
The tents raised
Men and women salute
As they carry your body away

The flag draped over so graceful
Exhibiting patriotism of the brave
Honoring the risk you willingly took
As we march in silence toward your grave

My fellow comrade, my partner
Forever my best friend
Life for us was just beginning
When it turned for a swiftning end

I felt my stomach tightly churn
When I saw your name on the list
Sinking back into the moment
We shared our final goodbye kiss

Now as they lower you down gently
My heart follows right behind
Though you can't be with me now in body
Our souls will always be intertwined

I'll be brave for our little princess
But I can't promise I won't weep
Watching her lay here with your picture
Cuddling it softly sound asleep

I tell her numerous stories about you
And she tries to memorize them all
But as the years go by it gets harder
When your face isn't as clear to recall

She knows her father is a hero
And not afraid to announce to the world
Oh my dear, how I see so much of you
In the liveliness of our precious girl

I know our parting won't last forever
When we're together as a family in Heaven
That picture is what keeps me going each day
Holding to the thought I'll embrace you again

We will live to make you proud, my love
Though somedays are harder then most
Perhaps fallen but never forgotten
To your life we raise this toast

David Meets Goliath

     And David slew Goliath
       The goliath of his cares
A little lad he was in stature
But a giant at heart he is
He steps up to mammoth trials
           His chest with armor bare
Knowing a thrust from this giant
Will through him run his spear
But the giant hearted young lad
Stepped up with lack of fear
He knows his God is with him
                     And naught can he destroy
                      So bravely go he faces
                       Old Goliath and his spear
                        And conquer he did conquer
As with empathy we show we care

Through A Prison Glass

You came unexpectedly, and i was surprised,
you smiled and placed your hand on the glass and cried.
I leaned my head against the glass and told you i am sorry,
i whisper through the phone line, ill start a new story.

You knew i was innocent but you still didn't believe me,
the only person i thought that would stay by my side but you couldn't be.
Mom standing by your side and not wanting to talk,
i got really upset that you came at all cause i didn't want to see you walk.

I needed you, when i was in need,
i was there for you when ever you didn't want to bleed.
I loved you and i cherished you with all my heart,
but before you left your words hit me like a really sharp dart.

You said i failed you,
you cried to me and i knew it was true.
But i needed you to understand me,
but you went your way and upset me.

The glass is now empty and i cant find you even with the fact that I'm out,
i tell you i love you but all you do is shout.
I've lost you for good this time,
so i think i have to do one more crime.

I Have The Evil of You

I have the evil of you
Caught in my hands, entangled
Like the arabesques of Eden's vines
Just like paradise, but why should shame remain
Singeing like immolation of Peter's Inferno
These reddish-purple chains convolute myself
as the grapples shoot out from the clouds
both below, above me
The self-lovelust propelling
You did this - these plagues
You drag me down - to your cage
Cadaver Vampire - I am your slave

Fired Up

Fired Up

Suddenly slow, then frozen up…My heart began to pound.
My computer means so much to me. It’s my touch to the outside world.
Then my knight came in the door… determined my dragon to slay.
And let me tell you… as dragons go… he can slay anything.

Dragon fire can be hot, but this one was immensely worse.
Nothing at all seemed to work. This dragon was really strong.
Shield after shield fell from my knights’ grip…
But thank God… he never, ever gave up.

Night after night he fought with might and studied his foe with thought.
Each night he scanned every road… for where a lair could be stowed.
His sword swung with might nightly… erasing him from the land.
But still the dragon was able to come back breathing fire upon all at hand.

He knew how to open every back door. He was cleverer than any I had seen.
But steady as a rock my knight and prince… continued to protect my way of life.
Finally, one day, with four new shields and with Excalibur by his side…
The dragon's spawn was slayed one last time, then a miraculous silence remained…

My knight had sacrificed so much time and sleep… that I truly cried.
This dragon was from a far away land where more dragons are made with pride.
But my dear knight is willing to wait by my side… His shield and sword nearby.
Thank you I say with hugs and kisses… For my knight in shining armor, my life…

Why the Rose Always Cries

Night after night, she sits down and contemplates
In her mind she knows her loss, but still she sits and waits

He, her husband, another statistic he has become
Killed in a far away land, another soldiers blood has run

Day after day she's taken back, to moments they had shared
Carving their names on a tree, showing teenagers cared

Through green fields of pastures new, season after season
At fourteen years old they clicked, love was a reason

Whilst she paces their family home, his steps gone forever
Killed in a far away land, another life now severed

In her time their kids will be told, daddy's never coming home
For the angels have asked him to stay, just to let him roam

Memories of their pasts resonate within her mind
For she knows she'll find no other, for he was one of a kind

Outside the window where she stares, under many seasons skies
She sits down and contemplates, why the Rose always cries

Why Should We Live?

Why should we live if we have
nothing to live for?
Why should we live if we have
nothing to die for?
Why should we live if
no one cares?
Why should we live if you're
loved by no one?
Why should we live if no
one likes you?
Why should we live if
no one loves you?

Each day is just a day
Each day is a day closer to death.
What's the point of living?
Some may say none,
Others may say why.
Why should we live?
Tell me and I will think about your answer.

American Heart

America resides within the heart of all Who believe in freedom, choice, voice and opportunity Deny, not, the display of pride within yourself Or else you’d deny pride in this land of the free America, more than land, it’s home to you and me Some dare tread, take arms against and try to squash All that America ever stood for, which is evident to all They fear the freedom, strength and all that’s offered As they know, against us, they would never stand tall And for all their attempts, America makes them fall This 9-11, let us not focus on terrorist actions But, on those Americans lost, that still live in our hearts Remember and honor them by living the American dream Exhibiting the ideals and always doing our part Showing all, America has muscle but lives through its heart

The Scent of Water

He was a large soldier, standing well over six feet.
In World War II; imprisoned in the Philippines.
Thousands perished on the Bataan Death March.
They were brutally beaten; starved and parched.

Wanting to give up, during this sixty five miles.
Thoughts of his wife, Helen; her beautiful smile.
They had vowed to be each others help mate.
He would press on, with a slow, painful gait.

Knowing she was praying for him gave him strength.
Tho thousands of miles apart, their hearts still linked.
Their marriage, like the oak tree; its' roots were very strong.
He was a skeletal seventy-eight pounds when he returned home.

When he was certain he could simply go no farther.
His lovely wife Helen became his scent of water.

*This is a true story about one of my husbands cousins, Helen and her
husband. She has dedicated her life to helping find POWS or their remains. She
works tirelessly and has helped numerous families. I am honored to know her. I never knew him. He had gone to heaven before I met my husband.

After Dark

After dark I sit.
Quietly waiting for you,
To come back safely.

It has been six months.
I can't get you off my mind.
You are my one love.

You are my soldier.
You fight for me and my country.
You have a pure soul.

Though you save many,
You also are a killer.
A harsh murderer.

I wish it was easy.
To see it as a duty.
And not as your choice.

Now, it's after dark.
All I can see is that blood.
Spread across the field.

All those poor souls dead.
They were such innocent ones.
No reason to die.

Reflections

Through the window of life I look
To tomorrow, a different day
Thoughts of my husband my love
Lost to wars theatre decay

When I awake every morning
And look at the faces of our kids
When do I tell them their daddy's gone
And lift our lives from this rid

What do I tell them
Every time they hear the door
When they think its their father
Who won't be coming home anymore

What do I tell myself
When I retire every night
Touching the side where he once lay
The one who held me tight

What do I tell them
When I'm tear laden day to day
What do you tell twins of one year old
When they don't understand what I say

When do I tell myself
That tomorrows a different day
Reflections are left of what could have been
For war has left its say

My fingers actively write this score

As sleepless nights I long for your touch
Your sacrifices are to much
For your king and country
I wish you could see
That a woman's love needs you
Please keep safe in all you do,

They Left so Abruptly

They Left so Abruptly

(for the countless South Africans, of all colours, who dedicated their lives for freedom and democracy)

the valiant ones
countless
many known
many more nameless

the truest sons and singers
husbands and poets
lovers and wives
daughters and farmers
workers and sisters
brothers and friends

they left so abruptly
with quiet pride
steely courage
gentle dignity

they left so abruptly
leaving us our tomorrows
brighter
hopeful
filled with promise

they left so abruptly
so that we may breathe
the breath of liberty
the air of freedom
the warmth of justice

they left so abruptly
leaving with us their parting gift

freedom
inkululeko
swatantrata
liberte
azadi
vhudilangi
libertad

they left so abruptly
yet we remember them all
today
in the days that slipped away
and in the many more that we await

they left so abruptly
yet they remain
hewed into our memories
etched in our consciences
engraved in our hearts
they left so abruptly
and yet they endure
with us
within us
now and forever more

Through Tearful Eyes

What can she be seeing as she looks through tearful eyes
Images of her love, being downed from war torn skies
The needle in her hand now paused, she contemplates
For she knows he'll never be home, for her love she truly waits

What can she be seeing as she looks through tearful eyes
Images of her past, when they met through love struck sighs
The children that she wanted, no memories will be of he
Tormented torn and tearful in sullen looks does she

What can she be seeing as she looks through tearful eyes
Revisiting cries of old, to wars in total despise
To rob her of a lover, a husband, friend and father
For decades she has sat and sewn, past memories always gathered

Colours

The detail lowered the colors:
That weathered flag with stripes and stars,
That had crossed so many borders
In declared and undeclared wars.

Young soldiers debark for glories.
The detail lowered the colors.
Old survivors tell their stories
Of comrades who died in valor.

We refused to doubt their honors,
Though causes have been disputed.
The detail lowered the colors,
While veterans were saluted.

To the widows, kind words were said.
The rifle squads rendered honors,
Then respectfully Taps were played.
The detail lowered the colors.

Grief Enough to go Around

Just like you to make a last minute date,
leaving me a quickly scribbled note,
before tossing aside that broken campaign pencil from last year's election--
I remember you snapping it apart
when you found out your man lost.
I laughed at you peering through your old bifocal glasses,
frame twisted awkwardly,
making you look somewhat frog-eyed.

"Let's see that production you mentioned.
Meet you at 7:30, the Lyric; dinner afterward."
I did an "Oh, goodie!" and left for work.

You never arrived; cell phone going straight to voicemail.
I stared at the playbill, September 8, 2001,
gave up and drove home, worried . . .

The police found me here,
telling me the details in their flat, official way;
three days later, your funeral . . .
a whole world grieves with me
for today American changed,
today, everything changed . . .

I am Man

When those words are spoken, written, to be a man or not,
Buzz says the bee, to discover what is he?
When the vortex of brains come calling all to reveal plots,
On dripping lips with open mouths that are caves of echoes, opened with skeleton
keys,
The makeup of a man with gray and white matter speaking to him,
Seats of consciousness much more grandeur than the largest auditorium,
Fleshy pods of minds, bodies, and souls, that are glass snakes with broken penis
limbs,
Regeneration of anger, hate, sorrow, despair, and love trapped in the hearts
sunless atrium,
Driving on streets with war bonnets making exchanges with Julius Cesear in the
passenger seat,
Boxing wrongs reminding us that we are men, and men we are,
Love letters from Sappho, slapping vulnerability, and veneered with eroticized heat,
Ermine men with life lessons spitting out the memories of nightmares,
Graveyards of bones with worm infested skulls, and dreams at rest,
To be a man in life, to be a man in death, here, and there, he must live or die the
noblest.

Lost Where They do not Belong <> End Line Poem

Parents and spouses to their photo's they look, Another
hero was killed fighting for our freedom. Lost
so far from his home and family, Today
we continue to send our sons and daughters, But
there will come a day when, They
will live as free as we do. Will
we ever learn from these theatres, Never
again should we out live our children. Be
cause' another was lost today, but they will never be, Forgotten

One Month Down

One Month Down

I wake up when he calls in the middle of the night,
He says for our country that he’s proud to fight.
I close my eyes and I push away worry,
I talk about things that are cuddly and furry.

I won’t relax until I can hold him again,
But if anyone can do this, it’s got to be him.
I’ll always hope and I’ll always pray
That my favorite soldier comes home someday.

I’m honored to support him and proud to be his wife,
He’s my everything. He’s my whole life.
It’s hard to imagine that he’s already left,
And taken my heart, now that’s petty theft.

My soldier inspires me to care and to love,
And I keep praying to our Lord up above
For his safe return and a happy marriage,
And someday a mini-soldier in a blue and white carriage.

I miss the way he rests his hand on my face,
I’m hopelessly clumsy but he only sees grace.
I can’t cook, but he doesn’t care
Because when we order take-out, I always share!

I am very fortunate to be with him,
Because he gives to our country again and again.
I’m never alone because he’s close to my heart,
On earth or in heaven, we’re never apart.

I wonder what my soldier is doing right now,
And if he’s sad or scared or anxious somehow.
I love him more today than ever before,
And tomorrow I’ll love my soldier just that much more.

Please come back to me, soldier, safe and sound.
Eight more months until you’re homeward-bound.

After the Knock

Two young children play outside the house,
Inside a mother watches through windows folding a blouse.

With the kids in the back she heads to the chair,
When through the front window come soldiers, a pair.

One is dressed like her husband the other more like a priest,
Then came the knock, sounding like a relentless beast.

Her mind said just leave them outside at the door standing,
Her hand opened the door, on her knees she felt herself landing.

The soldiers told of her husbands fate,
Wanting them to just leave her tears could not wait.

The two young children came in the backdoor,
Seeing two soldiers and their mommy on the floor.

The oldest asked mommy what is the matter,
Come here my blessings, hugging, I will explain it later.

Her world had flipped, turned upside down,
He returned to her in a casket with a flag draped all around.

They had to drive from the airport to their small country plot,
She couldn’t count the people lined along the road, but it was a lot.

Each one waved a flag, some cried as if they knew her girls’ dad,
She’d never seen most of them, but seeing them now made her glad.

She saw signs that read “Welcome home Hero” and she filled with pride,
Even that couldn’t stop the tears, at the gravesite she just cried.

She stayed there saying goodbye, her family had to pull her away,
She’s glad they did for she wouldn’t have left his side that day.

She is exhausted, overwhelmed, she must sit down,
Then she sees the photo of him in a Tux and her in a wedding gown.

How could this be real, she’s too young to be a widowed wife,
He was her partner, best friend, the love of her life.

Now the hours have past his vessel is in the ground,
All the parties are leaving she’s alone in their home, not a sound.

She weeps in her chair alone in the dark no sound but the clock,
God help her find strength, a way to move forward, after the knock.

My Last Tour

My last tour of duty is finally near
To never see again this barren frontier
My heart beats wildly to be with my wife
To live tomorrow and beyond and get on with our lives

I dream of the airport as my plane touches down
To run into her arms in kissing drown
Rushing of home to continue our bliss
Thoughts of our love drives me to wish after wish

Our romantic want starts since many a night
Rose petals, candles and champagne delight
Silk sheets and oils to well into the morn
The delight of our union, in nine months our first born

To love and to cherish my wife forever
Our hearts as one, and never to sever

Finally

Finally I can let you go,
Why keep u?
You don't deserve me,
You never did.
Always using me,
Used me for what you want,
Which was anything.
You wasn't fair,
but hey life isn't fair right?
You was there for me in the beginning,
but u grew from me,
I was there for you,
Through every problem we had,
I comforted you,
Gave you encouraging words,
Everything I did was out of love,
It was my duty as a spouse to you,
But u hurted me,
Forgetting about my pain,
You always wanted things your way,
Going through for three years,
You wouldn't imagine the stress,
The pain,
The deceit i went through,
Trying to forget my past,
I was loving you,
But u said It wasn't enough,
And you sure didn't care to help,
You always thought about your needs,
Your life that included me as a comforter,
Not a lover,
So think about you now,
Go with whoever,
Forget our engagement,
Forget we ever met,
Because I am going places,
Places that you would imagine.
Woooooo!
Finally I am free!!!

Watch The Horizon

That orange-pink sky
takes my breath away.
So pure and lovely
it spreads across the horizon.

But as the sky grows darker and darker
The pink fades to purple
The orange to red
The light blue to a colder blue
Night is coming.

Before i knew it
The sky was glimmering in stars
The full moon shining brightly over head
The wind picked up a bit
And i shivered

The night was cold
And the dark made it colder.
As an action to stay warm
I pulled up my collar
But it didn't work.

I quickly made my way home
Being sure no one saw
For they didn't know i was out.
For they didn't know i was waiting for my miracle.

I wake up early the next morning
And head outside.
The birds were starting to wake up
The sky was turning that soft pink color
Of sunrise.

I quickened my pace
to make it on time.
And just as it began i made it to the stop

The sunrise was beautiful
and it took away my breath.
I smiled to myself and thought my wish.
I had a feeling,
Something good will happen.
All i had to do was watch the sun set.

With hope in my heart
And joy filling my body
I jogged home.

The day was passing
and the sunset was coming
I needed to get out
Right Now!
I excused myself and quickly went outside

I ran to the stop.
Panting and tired i made it a little late
The sky was an amazing orange/purple color
I smiled despite the day i had.

Once again the sunset was ending
But today it was different
Today a figure walked toward me
And deep in my heart i knew it was you.

5 years, 8 months, 12 weeks
25 days, 24 hours, 30 minutes
was all it took

To see you walking back to me from war
ALIVE.
And all i did
was Watch the Horizon

Dedicated to all those families who have a loved one in the military. We wish for their safe return. God Bless them all!

I am a soldier

I walk through the desert
with sand in my eyes
The people see me passing by
and all they can do is smile

Yet back home I step outside
and people stop to stare
Not because they know me
But because of what I wear

See I am a soldier
I fight for what is right
I stand up for freedom
I fight with all my might

Yet some may say I am wrong
that my job shouldn't be done
It isn't our place to fight for them
That we should be gone

But there is something they don't know
or seem to understand
My job is to fight for those who need us
no matter where the land.

I made a decision when I took this job
to fight the fight when needed.
To answer the call to go to war
no matter where we're headed.

So when you see us on the street
Just remember you are free
Because people answered the call
to fight for freedom like me.

HE WAS THERE

I know that there are some that still can't pray
and others that ask, 'Where was God that day?'
HE was there with each tear that's shed
as the news reported, There is thousands dead!'

HE was in the hyjacked planes so out of control
His angels collecting each passenger's soul!
HE was there at the buildings of the World Trade Center
with Heaven's gates wide open bidding all to enter!

HE was there in every tired body and grimy face
that refused to give in to another trying to take his place!
HE was there amongst every common place hero
who repeatedly dug through the rubble in New York's ground zero!

HE was there with the passenger's of Flight 74
whose sacrifice kept the enemy from the White House door!
HE was there with those that died at the Pentagon
when another plane flew into them like a bomb!

HE was there when thousands of passengers landed
unable to get home, so on Canadian soil they were stranded!
HE was there in the smiles of the Maritime youth
who came with blankets, fresh clothing and hot bowls of soup!

HE was there when the President cried out with pride
'This will only make us stronger, we have GOD on our side!'
HE was there when AMERICA was at Iraq's door
teaching the Taliban what happens when you provoke a war!

HE is there today as countless others reflect on the loss
just as HE watched HIS only Son die upon the cross! HE WAS THERE!

The Good-bye

Tear filled eyes
the last kiss
this is the last hug
to let you know
you will be missed.

The last look in your eyes
thinking about
what was just said
our last I love you
buried in my head.

Laying on my bed
wishing it was a dream
I close my eyes, and
I fast open just to see
if you would be next to me.

I know I have to stay strong
I believe we can make it through
I only wish I knew if you
are thinking about me too.

Looking at the same night sky
staring at the same full moon
I pray to God that you will return home safe
to me and to the love we always knew.

The Murder In The Study-PTSD

I sit there watching,
watching as he struggles through the pain.
Scared to touch him,
as my hand hovers above his sweat soaked skin.
Where's the antidote?
My eyes scream for an answer,
my lips cry from the sight.
He's lost in his mind,
trapped in the memories,
the fears have taken him from here.

I say his name tentatively, he doesn't hear me.
Eyes black, empty souled,
where's he gone, God where does he go?
Bombs exploding in his ears,
guns firing rapidly,
hands clenching his only hope of survival.
I bite my lip and brush a lock of hair from his eyes.
Empty eyes, his strength is crushing my wrist,
His hand clutching my throat.
I plead his name, beg for him to wake up
from this nightmare of a dream.
Beneath my breast, within my chest
I feel my heart throbbing.
How long will it be until it breaks.

I'm clawing at him, my nails tearing open his shirt.
I've become an animal, an invisible threat to his blind eyes.
As my nails rake across his face,
my back slams into a book case,
I look up, His empty eyes, a world away
in a world of war, his hand shaking
with the cold metallic gleam of his gun.
He aims, without seeing, and the bullet hits his mark.
Instinct has my hands on the hole in my chest.
curiosity draws them away
and with the sticky red I paint.
Maybe when he awakes he'll see this,
this one thing, it might save his sanity.

I scrawl 'I love you', my tears wont wash it away.
I lay as I go blind,
the black fading from his eyes,
and into mine.
God, take away his pain.
Let me steal his dreams,
as you stole his sanity.

Never Again

Woman and child are dragged to the gate. The husband thrashes, but by then it's too late. The conductor points to left or to right. Neither direction survives much past tonight. The former brings them to a deathly gas; In the latter, they must be fit enough to pass. The wife weeps when forced to port. The man and son will work 'til their lives are cut short. The woman is stripped, then beaten and raped. The child digs a ditch; with a shovel it's scraped. The husband gets bread, but never enough. His spouse gets a room in which people are stuffed. The grave complete; the guard turns his gun on the boy. In the room with the gas, all lives are destroyed. The man is assigned to work with the fires. And after seeing his wife he embraces the wires. Three innocents: victims of the Holocaust. When people follow blindly, all is lost.

1 Asterisk*

An officer in his car patrolling the streets
Protecting the city while it sleeps
But be advised, there is one
Whose deviant acts are never done

Do not think they cannot see
The treasures that belong to the loved ones of thee
They wait for the most unexpected time
To carry out their egotistical crime

Then comes a loud bang that brings you sheer fright
You are asleep at home, in the middle of the night!
You are scared and you wonder ‘What is there to do?’
Call that lone officer, he will come to you

When the officer arrives, the criminal is concealed
But this is the specialty in the officer’s field
He makes sure that the citizen is safe and secure
And to make sure no injury or trauma was endured

The officer calls for backup, but none is en route
For a moment this causes confusion and doubt
He begins a clean sweep of the building alone
With no radio, partner or a cellular phone

Suddenly a shadow in front of him appears
He draws his weapon and draws the criminal to tears
After arresting the criminal and doing a frisk
The officer realizes there truly is, ‘One asterisk’

I Love You

I love you is more than just my words,

It is this deep down driving force of a silent sound.

Love is a magnet igniting sparks to try higher light.

Love connects beaming light twinkling at midnight.

Unmistakably, I’m assured audibly to get this heard.

I love you is more than me,

Love is pending in the depths of me I touch.

This is more than what I can realistically feel.

It is a bargainer’s deal for the sweetest steal.

Evidently, I run wild because I set it all free!

I love you is less than you,

It is an uncut gashing wound,

With lifetimes of a scored scar,

It is a typhoon of who you are,

Apparently, it is difficult to do!

I love you is less than them,

It is always lost,

It is never found,

It binds to a cost,

Hearts are bound.

I love just like you,

And you love just like me!

I swear to my God Almighty from up above my heart is pure and true!

I really do embellish everything my love is suppose to do just for you!

Forever and ever, the whole world shall open their eyes daily to see!

In lieu of this unconditional love, it is here I will always want to be!

To Drown

She walks along the empty beach,
She looks over the ocean, what does she?
She sees a ship sailing by,
But alas- just a trick of her eyes
A single tear drips down her cheek
And hits the sand beneath her feet.
The sea breeze ruffles her linen gown
And draws her to the water, the water to drown.

Pointless, Worthless, War

Why do people have to die,
for something as stupid as war?
It's pointless,
It's worthless,
and causes nothing but pain.
There may be that moment,
when the victory is great.
But there's always after,
when the sorrow sinks in,
the tears fall,
and hearts break.
Fathers and sons are lost,
leaving wives and mothers behind.
Alone to grieve,
alone to weap,
and to scream at the sky,
despising to world.
It's something that she,
will never ger over.
That she lost her som or husband,
to the squables of countries.
There is no joy in this pointless bloodshed,
that causes nothinf but heartwretching pain.
It's pointless,
and it's worthless.
So why do so many hace to die,
for something as stupid as war.

Under a Full Moon Sky

She sits on the jetty
Under a full moon sky
Wondering why
Just wondering why

Her lover, her man
Has been lost at war
Why was he there
What was he fighting for

In a distant place
So far from their home
He was taken from her
In her mind she combs

Can she face tonight
Will she bear tomorrow
Her heart's been wrenched
In heartfelt sorrow

As she sits on the jetty
Under a full moon sky
To all the others who have lost
Will they ever wonder why?

Her Love is Strong

After the aftermath
A love can be so strong
To nurse back to health
The receiver of that bomb

My darling husband James
In Helmond Province so
Walked through a doorway
And then that bomb did blow

He lay there stunned and bloodied
Attempting to get up and stand
But the bomb had done its damage
He was left two thirds of a man

He was flown home the next day
I couldn't wait to be by his side
He said he'd lost his legs
But he said it full of pride

He would rather it was he
Who crossed the doorway that day
Its the spirit of our soldiers
That makes them speak this way

Days and weeks pass
As his healing takes its time
Wheelchair bound is my darling James
But a man still in his prime

Many months have passed
As we get on with our lives
To me he's the guy i married
So proud to be his bride

he used to climb on daddies back
when he had'em on the floor
everything that daddies did

in his heart the little boy grew
the vicious fact that he could not ignore
that a home without a daddy
is the home of the poor
why can't God just end all wars
why can't daddies talk with other daddies
and try to end this war
why can't daddies come home
and be what they was before
why can't daddies be what they

Teardrops of War and Pain

Teardrops dropping,
My heart nearly stopping,
When you left me standing here,
You said "Goodbye, my sweet dear."

I asked for you to stay,
If not for another year, then perhaps one more day.
You looked me in the eyes,
And said "This may be our last goodbyes."

You kissed me with tenderness,
As if this may be our last, final kiss.
Ours lips parting,
The situation hardening.

As I said "I love you so,
I don't want you to go",
Pulled up a sandy, monstrous truck,
Alerted to shoot, but not at a duck.

I saw such pain in your eyes,
When we told one another of our love, and then goodbye's.

I'll never forget what happened that day;
I can't sleep at night, so I walk to the bay.
The bay is so full of our love,
The one thing that accompanies me is a dove.

I cry teardrops of war and pain,
To only know of what I lost, but will never again gain.
I hope for you to come back home,
Until I find out that I have to find a silent, cement dome.

Everyday and every night,
The pain is too much to bear to eat even a bite,
As I sit here at the eating table,
I'll admit, I don't think, anytime soon, I'll be stable.

The pain is too much to take,
I'm dying of this terrible heart ache.

I cry so many teardrops of war and pain,
That I think I'll never, again be sane.

Locked Away

My husbands actions locked with my soul and remained at our frount door,
He reenlisted again and had left for the Afganistan war.
My eyes became swollen the tears begain to pour.
Then all of a sudden, for some reason, one day I wasn't mad at him anymore.
I inwardly waited to hear his keys rattle and his duffle hit the floor.

She Sees Butterfly Dreams

She closes her eyes
And dreams away
Off her man overseas
In a foreign country

She prays for his safety
And the flag that he serves
To do their job and come home
It's what they all deserve

She knows of the dangers
But her heart remains strong
Back in her arms
Where he will always belong

She hears on the radio
And she views on the news
Another patriot lost
Their country all solemn and blue

She lives day to day
For that moment to come
On Edwards runway he lands
For she knows she will run

She will sleep tight tonight
With her butterfly dreams
All loving and tender
For into his arms she will stream

She stands on the shore
Dressed in black
Her head bowed
As the waters ebb back

For just offshore
She sees the bows of a ship
Where many have perished
On it's maiden trip

Built on the Clyde
To serve in the war
Never reaching the action
As the torpedo's tore

Off the Isle of Arran
She met her fate
The U-Boat attacked
Back through the nets she escaped

With it's cargo of munitions
In explosive boom
Her crew of new
Now in deathly tomb

For the lady in black
Who stands on the shore
Crying into the waves
With a husband no more

Where Do We Go From Here?

We don't mesh
Since we've been one flesh
We're never on good terms for long
As a matter of fact
One misheard word or act
Makes us conclude everything's wrong

And we don't click
Like the stones and sticks
That we've gathered from far and near
They've all been used
Now that we're battered and bruised
Where do we go from here...?

Why do we settle down
To settle for less or save face
By not waiting for true happiness?
Why do we put on a show
And act funny with each other,
Yet neither of us is laughing yet?

And why do we get confident
Seeing our strength and beauty,
Finally, from the words of a stranger?
And why do we stay together
While pushing ourselves apart?
Without mutual love we're in danger.

Sunset Dinner

[///
I would tell him,
but he hunkered
down in his bunker,
debriefing
with one-thousand-caliber cans of beer.
He rationed himself,
confidentially,
to every Bud.
Every friend
poured from their head-wound
deafening - distinctive - gurgles.
	                               ///]

(…
I dine at a wide clay table -
face the gold-red wall.
I serve myself a setting yolk -
season it with salt.
I eat my meal, and quickly-
forbid the air its warmth.
I stuff myself with sunset;
starved in bed, I bawl
as dusk, so kind, wraps leftovers
for tomorrow evening’s gall
                                         …)

He (like the day) has set;
sunsets taste – different –

Another Day Passes

Another day passes
Another day he is gone
Taken from his loved ones
From the place where he belonged

He should be at their side
With his kids and his wife
Another casualty of war
The waste of another life

In front of his marble headstone
The grass wetted by her tears
She lies down saying i miss you
And i will love you for all my years

Our twins will always remember you
For i will tell them every day
Your words they will never hear
But i will say to them, what you would say

   Look after your mother
And you mother will look after you
For i will be looking down
Through clouds and skies of blue

   Always be there for her
And she will be there for you
Family love will be your bond
In future years it will see you through

Many days have passed
Our twins have grown with pride
We all miss you so much my darling
For you were always by our sides

May a messenger not bring any news
from the front lines, telling of his demise.
She knows in her heart, he shall return.
A telegram would surely tell lies.

She hopes for the best, can’t wait to see
her gentleman walk through her door.
Now, she waits for him to return one day,
the soldier, the man she adores

He’s her life, she has everything to lose.
She’d be done, if he was not to return.
But, down deep inside, she knows he’s alive
For his presence, she’ll wait, and yet yearn.

How Do They Sleep

Not a day goes by , my thoughts are not with you,
thinking maybe, someone will have the guts, and
courage to say, "OK, I was wrong."
Daily our troops are killed, and wounded so bad,
trying to start their life over, but it will never be what they had.
Is this a war for peace, or a war for oil, all I know for sure,
our tempers are ready to boil.
Our leaders are backing up, when it comes to our troops,
but they don't have a problem sleeping, for what they do.
How many now have been killed in this war,
How many now will never walk,
How many now can't see their children,
How many now have been abandoned,
How many now have been burned,
How many now can't hold their wife,
How many now can't get help,
I think our country has done enough,
If they can't handle their problem,
well that's just tough.
Our troops, our money, our sacrifice,
something here is not right.
Their land, their oil, and they keep it all.
Somebody better open their eyes, and
then maybe explain to a mother, why her child had to die.

Hour Glass

Time in a bottle.
We run full throttle.
Trying to catch what we cannot see.
Wanting and longing for what we know can never be.
He watches me as i move across the room.
His face full of excitement and a little doom.
His eyes are like fire in the night.
His hands scorch while they soothe away fright.
We know we have only a moment before the door is locked with no key.
They will come again and carry him out to sea.
We watch from our tight embrace as the sand falls.
Our love and passion is put on hold whenever duty calls.
His touch and presence is ripped away like a child from the womb.
But when we are together i am his to consume.
No part of me is left untouched or with out his kiss.
He finds my secrets as my breath is forced from me with a hiss.
He holds me close and shows me his love.
My hand fits in his like a warm winter glove.
He whispers softly in my ear.
He wouldn't want to be anywhere else but here.

She'll Wait

Within her hands
she carried
a single red rose,
a gift from someone
so long ago.
The petals
have faded in color
but with some care
and craftsmanship
were able to stay
on the stem
and remain for view.
It had lost its scent,
but yet she breathed in,
smiling as often
as she possibly could.
It had been a year
since she received
his letter,
but yet she walks
carrying his rose;
her dream.
She can feel
her soldier
will one day return,
until then
this rose
is her reminder
of their love.
