War...

War…
     By Dane Smith-Johnsen

War is good for greed.
Hatred! Repugnance. And death…
It reinstates need.

REFUGEES

Come by the thousands

Hungry, desperate, each day

Greece's agony mounts!*

------------

Home lost, new home found

Distant shores opening arms

Tears flooding the seas

*Thousands of refugees and illegal immigrants enter Greece
each day in search of a better future. Greece, despite its economic
crisis and with an unemployment near 30% and salaries and pensions
down by 40% helps the best way it can. Europe watches as more than
two million of these unfortunate people live inside our country of ten million.

The Surest Path to Peace

The path to your peace,
Is not to lay down your arms,
But hold them outstretched.

Abandon your wars,
Your sacred prejudices,
To live born again.

In another's arms,
Surrender yourself to love,
And peace will find you.

Bio in Short

It's been a good run
To the back side of sixty,
The short side of time.

First Hollywood kiss
Behind a pink crepe myrtle.
Thanks, Patsy Werner.

High school was okay.
Didn't help me to focus;
So, my mind wandered.

Surfed Bonzai Pipeline,
Big waves break into lava.
What made me do it?

Vietnam jungles.
I wondered why I was there.
America lost.

Smoking pot. Stereo.
Good fun in the seventies.
Psychedelics too.

And three wives later,
I finally found true love.
We're still together.

My destitute heart,
Saved by the sweetest angel.
I love you, Sandy.

Sooners are my team.
Most winning football program
In the Modern Era.

I am retired now.
But I have plenty to do.
Golf, primarily.

I've been writing more.
Perhaps I will write a book.
I have many tales.

I'd chase young girls; but,
Girls with a "grampa" fetish
Are so hard to find.

If I am lucky,
I will just drop dead one day.
With my peace of mind.

Yes, made a good run
To the back side of sixty,
The short side of time.

WAR AND PONDER HAIKU'S

Mother's hope shot!
Who will rescue tomorrow?
Unending woe...
..............................................
Midnight town crier!
Women and children take cover
Men running to war.
..............................................
Dry leaf swaying down
Looking from where it falls
Fresh leaves, take caution.
.............................................
Not minding the meat,
Isolated to ponder,
Woeing solution.
...........................................
Plates without hope
war came frowning
never to smile.

REIGN OF PEACE

REIGN OF PEACE

Oceans filled with tears
Shed by the angels weeping
For souls fell in war

Fill our hearts with love
Making war capitulate
Peace forever reigns
