Time

Time is fair and forgiving,
An equal opportunity employer,
A carefully balanced scale of hours, minutes and seconds,
In which days can be wasted and weeks recovered.

Time is an entity scientists cannot adjust,
A plaything the rich cannot afford,
A reward the poor cannot attain,
So how did it come to be that time is in fact what we spend?

Time is all-pervading, a vortex of imprisonment,
Time is the persevering beat of the drum,
Time pounds inevitably on the door of life,
Time is the birth, the living and the death.

Visitors

Spirits riding time, in swirling clouds, mist and fog, off the bluff they rolled.
Special thanks to James Marshall Goff for taking the time to explain haiku to me in a manner that helped me to appreciate its imagery and rigid format. "Visitors" is a spin-off from another poem "Heritage", which I wrote a few years ago and posted on PS only a few minutes ago. If the imagery and emotions I attempted to evoke fell short of your expectations, read "Heritage" and you'll tell more about what I was attempting to communicate. This is my first attempt at haiku, so do be too mean. ;-) ~<><

Haiku 7 - aurora borealis, rainbow sunset, cosmic glory

multi-coloured lights
searching the northern sky
aurora borealis

the setting sun
painting the evening sky
in colours of the rainbow

the glory of the cosmos
unending in space and time
how miraculous!
