BEFORE SPRING CAME

Before spring came, in late February
to the blooming and jolly hills
I ran, breathing heavily and frantically,
touching the perfumed blossoms
of a solitary, old cherry tree;
and underneath it I sat writing poetry
that hadn't a perfect rhyme and beat!
Weren't my skills marred by imperfections?

Canaries and red-breasted robins
flew down and rested on my outstretched legs;
perusing my lines to spot their names,
and when they did, they flapped their wings in gladness!
I could have imagined their joyful words,.
if only they had acquired the gift of speech,
and deeper in their thoughts I would have reached:
to dispel the myth that they had no feelings...

After my short poem was completed,
I reached for my harmonica to play my favorite classic tune;
and being surprised by the paleness of the fading moon,
I dedicated that happy melody to her not to let her despair:
by waving my hand to make her farewell less sad, while I whispered,
" Silent moon, eternal companion of every poet,
what's beyond the realm of this universe?...
Tell us more of those invisible suns and planets! "

Before spring came to the dormant valley,
the mountains' peaks allowed the sun to melt their snows,
to create gushing torrents to feed its water to the dry and cracked soil,
which needed rain instead of harmful frost;
and I drank the freshest water and washed my sweaty face,
while fighting off the bees' stubborn rivalry!
That spring has come again to dress herself with incredible splendor,
and this discontent and wishful heart desires nothing more than being there!

My theme is: Happiness In Childhood

Nature's Single Dads - The Leafy Sea Dragon

Nature’s Single Dad’s
THE LEAFY SEA DRAGON

Gracefully swaying without need for speed
Are creatures of beauty, disguised as seaweed.
Up to twelve inches long from tail to snout
These delicate creatures just drift about.

They carry, as they move like galleons in sail,
Silk-like appendages, leafy and pale
On back spines, projecting as masts on a ship
Sailing the oceans, they rise and they dip,

To the rhythm of moon tides; full or neap,
They travel the seas; these Dragons of the Deep.
Through weed-covered reefs and meadows of sea grass
There’s neither a neigh nor a moo as they pass.

They resemble sea horses in flowing silk gowns
Drifting on rhythms, dancing up and then down.
They slow dance through the water just moving around
No fire, no flames from these dragons; not a sound.

The mother will lay two hundred eggs on Dad’s patch
Of soft sponge, where safely they’ll hatch.
The sun flashes golden as she drifts on by,
While in the shadow on his tail, his offspring lie.

This single Dad of the deep tends a new generation,
Of Leafy Sea Dragon eggs; a fascinating creation.
Less than one inch when first hatched from the eggs
As newly formed babies; ready for life without legs.

They drift as if they feed, gaining the silky covered bone
To a length of twelve inches by the time they’re full grown.
The cycles of the moon dictate the rhythms and motion
Of this Leafy Sea Dragon in the great Southern Ocean.

The Leafy Sea Dragon is just one of Natures' Single Dads worthy of a mention for the survival of the species.

PASTA, PASTA, EVERYWHERE

Oh, vermicelli, rigatoni!
Lost on a sea of minestrone.
The sea beneath my feet,
And nothing else to eat,
I live on cheese and macaroni.

Christmas Time's Around the Bend

The time has come to string the lights and decorate the tree, Fix-up the barn an' house a mite for all the folks to see, Cause Christmas time's around the bend, an' Santa's underway A-makin' toys for girls an' boys, an' gifts to fill his sleigh. The widder Jones, from down the road, her cook-stove's bellerin' smoke, She makes tamales ever year for passin' city-folk. But through the year she cusses 'em for just a-passin' by, An' raisin’ dust she’s gotta to sweep when that ol' road is dry. The school put on their annual play and that turned into fun. They cast my nephew as the babe; he played the Holy Son! The Wise Men never had a chance. They got a real surprise, When baby Jesus tossed his milk an' caught one in the eyes. But ever year I'm still amazed by changes folks can make, Like Mister Groves, a stubborn coot I'd often like to shake. He turns a leaf at Christmas time, an' acts just like a saint, He'll drive to town an' do for folks that's crippled, sick an' cain't. On Christmas Day, the kids in town get stockings filled with loot. For some it's still a mystery but it's that "stubborn coot". I saw him late one Christmas Eve a-tendin' to the chore; For ever kid, in ever house, he left one at the door. It never snows on Christmas Day, it's mostly never missed. No sleighs to ride or sleds to slide, the things could fill a list, But there's no other place on Earth at any time of year That holds a light to what we have, the people livin' here. We've shared our lives an' memories, each dream, desire an' plan. We've touched each other ever way that God designed for man. With all their strengths and weaknesses, we love 'em still the same When Christmas time's around the bend, an' times that have no name.

Sam, Sam the Seashell Man

Sam, Sam the seashell man
Picks up shells in the soft white sand
Every day he walks the shore
Finding always more and more
Purple shells and pink and blue
Shells of nearly every hue
He walks the beach in morning light
And he walks again when nearly night
Little shells and pointed ones
Ruby shells like pearly suns
Every one a special gem
Made by the Master for His friend
His treasures all are kept in store
To give away to get some more
When little children come his way
He gives them shells to bless their stay
Hear the ocean in the shells
It’s captured waves and ocean swells
You hold a treasure in your hand
Sweet memories of the beach and sand
They are blessings from the seashell man

Thunderstruck Sunshine

The clouds shook
A thick, black, very wet blanket out
In the Southeastern quadrant
Of the New Mexico firmament,
Complete with lightning
And growling, crackling,
Massive basso-profundo sound effects,
Inviting the sun to rest,
Take a load off,
Reeellaaaxxx!

Abrasively radiant,
Helios glared a brilliant, heated, passionate,
Steamy smile
Into the arid monsoon skies

And refused Storm’s invitation
To lie down and go to bed

Learn a New Word:Moonfish

I wish I were a mermaid
So I could swim beneath the sea
And bring a moonfish home
To meet my mermaid family!

A moonfish (also called an opah) is a large, flat-bodied fish found in warm ocean
waters. A moonfish can grow quite large, weighing up to 200 pounds.

Bonus activity: Print a picture of a moonfish from the internet and let children pass it
around.

THE WISHING WELL OF A SUN-RISE,

It is...within the tiny things of early morning, that moment breaths alive, it is within the tiny whisperings, that a melodye plays...like the very dear and the antelope, play home on the range.

so goes the melodye of heart beat, that plays quietly the songs of soul,

here a rhyme is born of day-light coming so soon, through the early morning eyes of the moon-light, and the starry dreams of twilight's transitioning...

into the light of a love letter written to dawn.

soul to soul conversing, as in this love letter, the letters just join hands with the words and just march across the sky...and at the end of the rainbow, there be plenty of golden time,

way down deep on the inside,

...as the inspired choir, of a bumble bee, or a butterfly, starts to sing, like tiny things that live,

flower to flower,
blossom to bloom,

watered and deeply cared for...

O' Eden.

I say, deep beneath the surface of a wishing well...where the pennies lay,

I wish a sun-rise.

Mr. Crab and Mr. Anemone

(A hermit crab has just realized that he can barely fit into his shell and the only other
creature in earshot to hear his cries is a sea anemone who lives on the hermit crab's shell and has been the hermit crab's close friend for many years.)

Lament dear shell! For we stayed in the sun too long and you have shrunk!
How shall I survive with out you to protect me and house me from the sea?

Shrunk!?! A sea-shell? How is it that a shell could shrink, I ask you Mr. Crab?
How could something hard grow small? Maybe something that is soft grew large?

Mr. Anemone, what exactly do you mean? Something that is soft???
My shell is hard and my claws are harder. I can crack coconuts and coquinas alike.

No doubt, Mr. Crab, your claws are hard indeed, as hard as the shell on your head.
But what about your tail? Could it be that your tail has grown too big for your house?

Mr. Anemone, don’t be foolish. I am as fit as a fish and sleek as a snake.
I highly doubt that my tail could be at fault, to be honest; I’m a bit insulted you would say so.

Dear Mr. Crab, my intent is not to insult but to illuminate OUR current predicament.
The shell on which I sit and in which you live is no longer big enough for YOUR tail -- are
you listening?

Oh, excuse me Mr. Anemone, this blue-green algae is wonderful today.
Would you care for a snack? It really is quite delicious and you are looking a bit thin.

Mr. Crab, case and point! You have already eaten breakfast twice today, this is your third.
I believe we have narrowed in on the reason your shell has “shrunk”. Are you paying
attention!?!

Mmmmm, delicious algae; its so sweet when its fresh. Oh yes, I heard you.
The sun has shrunk my shell and we must now say goodbye to our old home.

Mr. Crab, a moment ago you were crying about the lack of room and potential eviction
from our home,
Now you munch away, ever expanding your tail and threatening our protection and even
our lives!

(something floats down from the surface and comes to rest on the sand a few feet from Mr.
Crab and Mr. Anemone)

Hello, what’s this Mr. Anemone? Round opening, hard outer surface and very shiny,
And writing on the side, hmmm, “bud-weis-er”. Budweiser! Sounds like a great name for a
new home.

Yes indeed Mr. Crab. When all hope seems lost and the end seems near, Mother Sea
provides.
And it would seem she has provided something big enough even for YOUR tail.

I'm Always Around

I'm Always Around
by BJ Welsh

I'm not near, but I'm really not so far
If you look up I'll be the brightest star
Looking down upon God's project earth
Watching and waiting for a rebirth
When you speak I will always listen
My points will seem to shine and glisten
Giving you guidance when things seem tough
Steady now it may be rough
When we meet again someday
Be it there or far away

I'm here for now and always will
Never escaping, did you feel that chill?
My spirit wind brushed by your side
Or the soft, gentle wave pushed by the sea tide
When we meet again someday
Be it there or far away

You've given me hope and reason to breath
It's not yet time for me to leave
I'm that fluttering seagull upon the sands
Maybe I'm the reason for you to dance
When we meet again someday
Be it near or far away

"Seasonal Change"

The sun glistens heavenly over our heads;thus casting black shadows as we walk in
togetherness.
We prespire ,skylarking in our seizure,in youthful bantering as we reach our destination.
Sudenly the wind is crisp, there is an occassional breeze about us pressing against our faces.
Feet cooled by the soft feel of wet sand,we emerge into the tranquil waters.......
we rise,we laugh,we dry ourselves and journey home.

The lean season begins and the sound of rain on our roof-tops restrain us to indoor activities.
The once humid air is cut sharply by the smell of moisture and precepitation.
Water trickles slowly down the window pane as I gaze unpatiently for a clearer day.
I bombard my mind with many insane questions, knowing fully well that there are yet no
answers.

Silly Sailor

Joanna Davis

Once a silly sailor,
sat upon a ship
Drank a barrel of rum;
thought he’d take a dip
Looked left and right.
then over starboard side
Saw a hump back whale
so he asked him for a ride
'No!' Said the whale,
I’ve far too much to do
to spend time wasting
with a sailor as silly as you!

Love you like a Sea Urchin

I wanna love you like a Sea Urchin.
-Not just any other shellfish.
Baby, can't you see it's urgent?
we're strapped for time, so don't be selfish.

I wanna love you like a Sea Urchin.
-and all other points aside.
I know I ran from love in past lives,
'cause I didn't have a spine.

I wanna love you like a Sea Urchin.
-I admit i've been a round.
but of all the other fishies,
you're the one that I want now.

I wanna love you like a Sea Urchin.
-Won't you please come back soon?
oh boy, this globoid was a fool,
but he's a fool in love with you!

A DRINK IN THE MORNING

Coffee in a cup, makes a cup of coffee;
just as an aroma from within, makes the air,

smell of flowers in the spring

...blossoms,
blooms,

time,

...a sweet thing, like sugar cane is to the tasting,
and the tasting is to stirring the dream,
flavor,

making flavored coffee
soul,

a drink in the morning.

Teardrops From Bitter Clouds

5/21/11-5/22/11

They told me it was going to be sunny
I decided to go to the beach
Blue beauty…
No, I’m not the same as you can see

I soar off like a distant train
swaying…staying
Connected to the tracks
overwhelmed by rain
You weepie...
don’t you know who made sorrow?
Wait…do not scurry
Tearless for tomorrow
because that day will bring forth
Brighter dusks…hidden beneath the surface

Wherever we roam,
I’ll collect the foam
from the attacking waves
Masked with bitterness
led by the wind
Bitter clouds sending rain
I guess I’ll remain
Home alone
And watch a pale moonlight
Shone in my withering curtains
I’m certain
There will be brighter days
in this summer vacation
that’s next in line
where we will dine
forever on a soaring tide
clueless…undefined

Overcome the clouds…
Let out victory
Let them know
The key to life is positivity
Or treasured love
Beneath the surface
In other words,
You are marvelous…a blue beauty
You are a dolphin against an unfriendly tide
Sending teardrops from bitter clouds
Never meant for harm…
Keep me away from this charm
You send from your silky…
lushing…gushing…
form brushing beside a shipwrecked terrain
Paradise lies in silky clouds
Sending irresistible rain
Sending no doubts
Or heart-breaking reminders
Pouring out acid rain from bitter clouds
Teary skies…how time flies…
Sending drenched-up memories…
Cuddling to the soul
Oh, how time flies
A cruel enemy…how time could be
a loathly fiend
Sending acid rain
From tilted clouds
immediately drains
the hour…unaware of the time

I wish I could fall in your arms
While the bitter clouds alters into charms
Remain positive and fit
Don’t lie in the ocean floor
There is a deep pit…be vigilant
Stay awhile, will you?
Tearless for tomorrow
If you are made out of
Droplets and charms
My smile will warm up
The cloudy day…
and send the rain
Under the water
Under the teary sea
is where our destiny will be
the lovely clouds
will be our shrouds
it tickles my feet
and your wiggling fins

Stay awhile, will you?
Tearless for tomorrow
If you are made out of
Droplets and charms
Snuggle
In my arms

Polar Bears And The Penguins

Some times they say the great and mighty do fall…
And the penguin story of greatness, should be heard by all.
Polar bears are mighty and cunning with massive brute strength.
But they messed with the penguins, a mistake, I do think.

The polar bears went after the penguins and cute little chicks.
So you’ll never guess what those cute little penguins did.
Using the most courageous penguins as a target so nice.
They lured all the polar bears, for the first time, out onto the ice.

The greedy bears moved out in force for the kill.
But the penguins pushed the ice flows into the currents windmill.
So intent on dinner and full of themselves, were they that day…
That the polar bears didn’t notice the ice caught in the currents sway.

The polar bears were way out to sea, before noticing their plight.
And, by then, the penguins were safely at home tucked in for the night.
You might say, the current was a friend to the penguins that day.
For it eventually sent those polar bears to the North Pole far away.

Now the moral of this story is here to easily understand.
Brute strength is not the greatest thing to cherish; it is far greater to plan…
And, never turn your back on a penguin I say.
They’re the reason there’s no polar bears at the South Pole, to this day.

when our children ask why?

the stones will tell the story of their journey into the Promised Land
the children of Israel with the Ark of the Covenant at Gigal they came to stand
they had crossed over the Jordan River when the river bed by God was made dry
and the Lord told them to tell all the children if they should ever ask why?

God is at work in our lives, He has a master plan
He's prepared us for that which for us He has in His hands
our lives have been redeemed by His unlimited mercy and grace
as He's the God of the whole universe of all air, land, sea and space
we've been fashioned in His image and the likeness of His Son Our Holy Lord
and when we accept and acknowledge Him our lives become more in accord
as all things work together for the good of those who love Christ
no matter the trials nor the tribulations that you experience in this life

when our children ask why we worship and honor the Lord God
the words out of our mouths should be from the depths of our hearts
tell them that once they understand the purpose that for them God has ordained
they'll be more equipped to handle life's frustrations, upsets and pain
let them know no matter what in life they are going through
the joy of the Lord comes each morning and He will always be with you

trust in God to open doors and let His Holy Spirit guide you along
believe in His word, follow His commands and you will never go wrong
by exposing the core of your being, your soul and becoming a vessel that God can use
now as a true disciple and servant of Christ you can never lose

so reverence God, respect God and hold Him in the highest regards
and when our children ask why tell your testimony from the heart
that God is omnipotent, there is nothing He cannot do
He parted the Red Sea and the Jordan River so His people could pass through
so when our children ask why, why we glorify the Lord God?
we can tell them about all the wonderful things and the miracles He imparts

Flight of the Bubble Be's

Peony-pink and blue-gray bubbles float
above the soft sand and cute children’s heads
fragile, reflective, as stories once read
on the stiff breeze over seas and whale boats.

Blue-gray and transparent like plastic coats
encasing dreams and desires instead
Lilliputian compared to earth o’erspread
before the hale hurricane they did gloat.

Beautiful bubbles miniature life boats
above the soft sand and cute children’s heads
drifting, descending, on each small towhead
on stiff breeze over seas and whale boats.

A Christmas Love Story

Cherish the new born king
Hark the herald and
Ring the toll bells
It's Christmas time again and
Santa is on his way as the
Tinsel is strewn and mistletoes are hung
Mama got caught once again
Alone kissing a guy dressed in red
So I dashed to my window and through open the shutters
Looking upon the roof
Over and over again I somehow now
Vow to remain true in
Even believing in this little Christmas tale of a hymn

Daddy Now Please Pray With Me

Daddy now, please pray with me,
for today I'm sailing stormy seas.
I know you say you're but a man,
who tries to live the Master's plan.

I'm weathering gray storms, except a few,
and the turmoil would drown me, if not for you.
The wind is so strong, the waves are so high,
Tattered sails against the sky!

And I recall you telling me,
of Jesus Christ, Who calmed the seas.
And yes, small faith can the mountains move,
and how He died His love to prove.

So Daddy now, please pray with me,
to God's sweet Son, Who dwells in me.
For I am daughter of a man,
and weak at times and cannot stand
against these tides of shifting sands.

You say, "He's still upon His throne",
and with our prayers, I'm not alone!
And God is good and loves me still,
He will offer strength to swim these swells.

Oh Daddy now, please pray with me,
Some choices I made were not of Thee.
At times I've wandered and gone astray,
I feel somehow I've lost my way.

Tell me again my right hand he still holds,
and how in heaven the streets are gold, and
once we're there no one is old because now
Jesus holds my soul!

Daddy now please pray with me like when I
was a child of three beside my bed on bended knees.

And perhaps somehow these words I write, may move
another to change their lives, for Jesus loves me this
I know and his blood has washed me white as snow.

And when you've said "In Jesus Name" I feel brand
new and not the same, so daddy now please pray with me
though I am grown and no longer three.

He'll lift me up on wings of love and forgive me
of all the wrong's I'v done! Then I can drop my anchor
deep and mend white sails on peaceful seas!

Anemones and shells my childhood

As I recall my past, it was a sea kissed life
summers spent roaming the Rabbit Burrows
cradled by dunes, beyond Tramore strand
towels stretched out on Woodstown beach
soft powdered sand, surrounded by forest
adventures in the Saleens, daring quicksand
of swimming with dad, high jumping waves
falling, laughing in great gulps of salt water
free and fearless, in our bare bronzed years

It was a sea salted life of wave-washed castles
of tide pools, alive with translucent shrimps
carmine anemones sucked tight to the rocks
periwinkles, hermit crabs, a world of shells
baby pink crabs moving sideways over stone
textured algae, salted, crisping in the heat
our faces stinging with sand and hot sunshine
we spent hours with nets, exploring the pools

After months and years of living near the sea
the landscape became an essential part of me.
I saw fuchsia ballerinas pirouette the breeze
sea pinks, grassy rosettes swaying on cliff tops
rocket, tiny lilac petals with succulent leaves
valerian, a candy floss pink, sweetly scented
We picked them and pressed them into books

I recall my child’s life with a skipping heart
when summers seemed to shine eternal
The rock pools taught us to treasure nature
togetherness bred a strong sense of self
a respect for the sea, the taste of freedom
when I open a book, I often find a flower
and shells - this child is forever combing

Save Our Wetlands

My home state loses a football field,
Of coastal land each day of the year.
I’m no cheerleader about this,
It fills my heart with fear.

I wish I had funds to donate to the cause.
Maybe if I expressed my thoughts of the situation,
It would cause others to pause.
As the pelicans swim to the beat,
 Of their inward drum,
And contribute to the state,
That many other states of the union,
Were carved from.

Way back before humans existed,
Our dear state Louisiana was merely sea floor.
If we humans that exist today,
Don’t get serious about this erosion problem,
The state where jazz was born,
Will be sea floor once more.

Our coastal industries, beautiful magnolia trees,
And the capital of the Old South,
Will no longer exist.
We won’t be able to reminisce about anything,
If our hindrance persists.

Like bacteria attacks a cell,
Our precious land is being attacked as well.
Like our educated out migrants,
Land is leaving without being replaced.
Saving this land helps us ecologically:
This includes the human race.

Please fellow residents and people who once,
Or never lived here before.
Fill Louisiana’s heart with cheer,
By contributing to this worthy cause.
If one can’t give monetarily,
He or she should then take a pause.
Be creative and think of other ways,
That one is able to help this wonderful state.

We would certainly appreciate anything you do,
To help us out.
I know the pain of the land will be eased,
Without a doubt.

Our state has faith in us as we have faith in it.
Let us not only be cheerleaders, but star players.
So that our precious land can stay strong,
Throughout its layers.
This erosion problem can be very costly:
Climatic changes, loss of land, animal and plant species,
And human lives are just a few.
Please help save our wetlands,
Because it is part of the old and of the new.

Wrote November 2003 almost exactly 2 years before Hurricane Katrina,
while student @ ULM and concerned about the issue, as a student and scientist the topic of
New Orleans going under and the Mississippi River flow and creation of Louisiana was talked
about since I was in elementary school in the mid '80s was a main topic of concern for the
gubernatorial election held that year, and during that political official's term as governor,
Hurrican Katrina hit, Louisiana politics I tell you- they simply tell people what they want to
hear!

Somebody Loves Me

Produced 50 yrs ago
My master Pravin Pant Sr.
Felt it was time for my Just Born coop to grow
So he introduced me to some other chicks
Bunnies bats cats pumpkins and
Even thought of placing some lucky stars
In for the heck of it what a day of cellabration
Now he has flipped his lid once again and took a few friends back
Had turned them into lip balms but I don't mind
For they will stay forever fresh on my lips as I speak of them
I been dropped off buildings had been steam rolled over
And each time I bounced back with zest
So please come rescue us from this crazy farmer
Place me in a warm basket or cake or even a dressed table
For I m just a little peep looking for somebody to love

To The Peep
In All Of Us LOL
